Who we are

Spotlight YOPD aims to increase awareness and provide support to individuals impacted by Young Onset Parkinson's Disease. It is a charity specifically for those with YOPD, managed by individuals with YOPD. Our organisation is based in the UK but has a worldwide impact.

Providing support and resources

Parkinson’s is not one disease and there is not one single solution. We are realistic in believing that before we expect cures, we need to identify causes for the various types of Parkinson’s. As a charity with a global influence and reach, Spotlight YOPD is keen to share knowledge, putting equal weight on scientific research and patient experience.

We would also like to see more emphasis on preventative measures as well as a more holistic approach to helping people live better with the condition today. A personalised approach is required, enabling YOPDers to make the best decisions for themselves, their family, and their future. We believe in the power of partnerships and the patient voice. The YOPD community holds the key to a different approach.

Values:

Kindness - As an organisation we believe in being actively kind to every individual and every organisation that we encounter or interact with.

Respectful and inclusive - We will protect the dignity of everyone regardless of faith, race, gender, sexual identity. YOPD doesn’t discriminate and therefore, neither do we. All are welcome.

Safe - Spotlight runs various groups both on and offline and often is the first port of call for those newly diagnosed. Being a safe and loving “space” for those with a chronic health condition is vital.

Optimistic - We are hopeful for a cure and optimistic that those with YOPD can live their best life now and we will work towards those aims.

Honest - We believe in being nothing but completely honest in our assessments of YOPD, research, treatments and will not “sugar coat” the realities of YOPD.

Joyful - YOPD is a devastating diagnosis but those who encounter Spotlight YOPD will find a group of people who whilst realistic about the condition are fun, quirky and full of joy.
