We are seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to join our team as a Volunteer for Community Events. In this role, you will have the opportunity to make a positive impact by attending and facilitating community events for LGBTQIA+ Muslim groups in London.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assisting the Community Trustee in researching and planning events for the hub in London
- Communicate with members on our Discord channel to coordinate attendance and activities
- Liaising with speakers, performers, and workshop facilitators to ensure their needs are met and their contributions align with the goals and values of the community.
- Setting up and taking down meeting rooms including workshop materials, refreshments and other ops as required
- Engaging with attendees, volunteers, and stakeholders during events to ensure a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere.
- Recording attendance collect feedback and evaluate the success of each event, making recommendations for improvement.
- Assisting workshop leaders and Trustees in delivering activities
- Assisting with special projects and initiatives as directed by the Trustees
This role requires travel to/from the Leeds Hub location with travel reimbursement capped at £20.
How much commitment is required?
We are flexible around your schedule. However, the following commitments are in place for volunteers:
- Attend monthly meetings to update on tasks, progress etc.
- Aim to attend all other planning meetings as necessary
- Attend all Hidayah Hub events in your respective region
- Attend other Hidayah events where geographically possible
- Add to and maintain the administration of our file-sharing system ‘Google Drive’ to ensure it’s up to date with clear records, templates and forms
- Check and respond to emails in a timely manner
- Contribute to the communications group (via Discord) and stay up to date with Hidayah developments
- Keep up to date with Hidayah communication and organisational developments

Purpose of the role

Terms of the role

For guidance, the Chair of the Board is expected to:
· Attend 10 - 15 meetings per year, comprising 4 Board meetings (quarterly), 1 Board awayday, plus optional/potential sub-committee and/or steering group meetings (quarterly) dependent on skills and interest.
· Represent the organisation at periodic events run by, or in partnership with, the Charity.
· Meetings are generally held in person at The Brain Charity Centre in Liverpool. Our Centre is fully accessible with parking available on site.
Trustees are not paid for carrying out their duties on behalf of Charity; it is a voluntary role. They can however claim reasonable travel expenses in line with our Volunteer Expense Policy.

Qualifications and Skills
We are looking for a qualified accountant with management and financial accounts experience – ideally in a small or medium sized organisation. Knowledge of charity SORP (Statement of Recommended Practice), restricted and unrestricted funds would be an advantage but is not essential. They will also have the ability to communicate financial matters to the Board and CEO.
The Role
The Treasurer works with the Board and CEO on all financial aspects of the charity’s operations as well as being part of the team of Trustees.
Specifically, the Treasurer:
- Ensures the financial stability of the charity, its reserves, cash flow, investments etc
- Oversees the work of our contracted bookkeeper who provides monthly and annual accounts
- Prepares a financial report for bi-monthly Board meetings
- Prepares the annual budget
- Liaises with our external examiner over the annual report and accounts
- Provides financial input for funding applications
Availability, workload and tasks
The workload varies from month to month with most input being required in January-February preparing the year end accounts, liaising with the Examiner and setting up templates for the coming year. Preparation of year end estimates and the budget for the coming year is done in August/September and finalised in December.
General
The role is voluntary, being a trustee is not a paid position. However, we are happy to cover any reasonable expenses you incur in fulfilling your trustee role, including travel and childcare.

The Treasurer assists the Chair and the CEO in ensuring that the board of trustees fulfils its duties and responsibilities for the proper financial governance of the charity; by ensuing effective and appropriate financial measures, controls and procedures are in place, reporting to the Board at regular intervals about the financial health of the Charity.
In addition to the above, the Treasurer will also have the responsibilities and qualities of all trustees.
This is a voluntary position, but reasonable expenses will be reimbursed. Our trustees service for a 3-year term of office with the potential for re-appointment for a further term to a maximum of 6 years.

You’ll need to be able to commit to attending six board meetings a year, as well as the potential for some further working group. IAM RoadSmart is a national road safety charity. Founded in 1956, our mission promotes being a force for good with skills development and education at the core of what we do, teaching post licence holders (drivers and riders) new skills to create fulfilling and safe journeys on the road.

IAM RoadSmart is on an exciting journey of transformation that draws on its heritage of educating and upskilling drivers and riders for almost 70 years.
Established as a traditional membership body, the charity is now on a significant journey of change which will help challenge perceptions to bring road safety to the top of everyone's agenda, and we need a Chair who will support us on this journey.

Time commitment:
Board meetings happen 5 times per year at our Welwyn Garden City head office. As a national charity, the role of Chair of IAM RoadSmart will be required to attend a variety of events and key stakeholder meetings, and is highly encouraged to visit local branches of IAM RoadSmart. Expected time commitment is 2-3 days per month.

This is a varied and interesting role in which you will play an important part in supporting ETS and its growth.
