o If the organisation employs staff, to appoint the Chief Executive Officer and monitor his or her performance.
In addition, with other trustees to hold the charity “in trust” for current and future beneficiaries by:
o Ensuring that the charity has a clear vision, mission and strategic direction and is focused on achieving these.
o Being responsible for the performance of the charity and for its “corporate” behaviour; ensuring that the charity complies with all legal and regulatory requirements.
o Acting as guardians of the charity’s assets, both tangible and intangible, taking all due care over their security, deployment and proper application.
o Ensuring that the charity’s governance is of the highest possible standard.

Mental Health Resource is a well-established, independent charity based in Tunbridge Wells, Kent. We are passionate about improving mental wellbeing in our community, and aim to do this by enabling people to feel supported and valued, providing opportunities for social connections and by raising awareness of mental health. We deliver high quality and effective services across West Kent providing safe spaces and person-centred mental health support.
We provide comprehensive services with both a focus on short term and long-term mental health support, enabling people to access our projects for as longs as they want or need support. Our beneficiaries have complex and enduring mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, PTSD, self-harming, psychosis, schizophrenia and bi-polar and, on average, we work with over 900 adults and young people each year.
About the Trustee roles
You would be working with other trustees who have different skills, knowledge and experience. It's an interesting role in which you can help formulate ideas about how we as an organisation can best address the challenges and opportunities that exist in an increasingly complex and changing environment.
We would love to hear from you if you have a true interest in helping to improve the lives of those with mental health conditions in our community, and especially if you have skills or experience in working in a charity or in finance. No experience of being a trustee is necessary.
You would be expected to attend and participate in six Board meetings per year which are held via Teams/Zoom and last 2-3 hrs. Main Responsibilities including statutory duties
Introduction
The Board of Trustees is responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of Telford and Wrekin CVS (TWCVS). Key roles include ensuring sound financial management; compliance with charity law and organisational risk management.
The Board is accountable to a variety of stakeholders, including funders, customers, members, partners, Charity Commission and Companies House.
Individual Trustees are expected to play an active role in the Board: attending meetings, acquainting themselves with papers and information sent out beforehand, contributing to discussions and decision-making.
There is no remuneration for Trustees. Reasonable out of pocket expenses will be paid in line with TWCVS’s agreed policy and practice
Trustees are committed to developing and maintaining
· An understanding of and commitment to the vision, mission, objects and aims of TWCVS.
· An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship
· An understanding of the partnership and cooperation between the Board and the Chief Executive, with the Board taking the lead on strategic matters and the CEO and staff responsible for the agreed operational delivery.
· Knowledge and understanding of health and social care services, local partnerships and other structures impacting on the experiences of vulnerable people in Telford & Wrekin

Trustees are expected to

Hope Valley Climate Action (HVCA) is based in the Peak District and aims to combat climate change by raising public awarness, taking local action through practical projects and advocating for policy policy change. We have received external funding for major renewable energy and sustainable travel projects. Our action groups focus on: Energy, Travel & Transport, and Land. MAP is a specialist debt and money advice charity. Our vision is for everyone to have the advice and support they need to manage their own money effectively. - Increase benefit income by £1,562,348 (£1,963,310)
- Secure one-off payments of benefits of at least £280,204 (£400,829)
- Secured £116,782 in Discretionary Housing Payments
- Obtain charitable grants and refunds and compensation of £503,357 (£423,019)
- Insolvency amounting to £596,373.
- Debt write-off (not insolvency) £1,011,427. This includes £868,843 for victim-survivors £178,784 using our innovative Economic Abuse Evidence Form that is currently piloted by several major banks, debt purchasing and utility companies.
- Negotiated with creditors to reduce client payments of £46,345 (£47,873) per year.
Altogether with charitable payments and other financial outcomes, our clients were better off by a total of £4,375,104 (£4,474,556) per year, an average of £1634 (£938) per client. or £3.17 (£3.50) for every £1 spent on our service.
Money Handling service
- 424 (438) people received a money-handling service, primarily in Brighton and East Sussex.
- £5,329,122 (£4,892,00) of clients’ money was handled. This comprises clients’ income received and used to fulfil their weekly and monthly budget requirements, pay bills and debts, and provide weekly cash.

• Leadership:
- To develop and approve the organisation’s vision and values.
- To promote the reputation of the organisation.
- To provide the strategic leadership necessary for all staff to deliver high quality services at all times.
- To represent the organisation at public events.
• Strategy
- To regularly assess the environment and develop the organisation’s corporate objectives.
- To agree the annual business plan implementing the corporate objectives.
- To review and agree any major changes to the organisation e.g. sale of assets or development of new enterprises.
• Performance management
- To monitor and assess the organisation’s results in relation to the agreed corporate objectives, budget and business plan
• Risk management
- To maintain a robust overview of the principal risks facing the charity.
- To exercise scrutiny over the charity’s risk management systems. Executive performance monitoring and remuneration
- To recruit and support the Chief Executive.
- To monitor performance of the Chief Executive and maintain an overview of Senior Leadership Team performance.
- To establish remuneration policy for the Chief Executive and Senior Leadership Team.
• Other duties
- Use any specific skills, knowledge or experience they have to help the Board reach sound decisions.
- Act reasonably and prudently in all matters relating to the charity and always bear the interests of Sussex Emmaus in mind.
- As a member of the Board, be responsible and liable for the governance and functioning of the charity.
- To ensure that intangible assets such as organisational knowledge and expertise, intellectual property, the charity’s good name and reputation, etc, are properly valued, utilised and safeguarded

Improving Lives Notts (known as Improving Lives) support people experiencing multiple disadvantage. Put simply, we support people with long term mental health issues to believe that life can change for the better.
We're looking for a committed and passionate individual to join our Board of Trustees. It is a friendly and experienced group, who govern the charity and support the CEO and Operations Manager to run the organisation. We're looking for people with a broad range of experience on our Board, but it would be advantageous to have marketing and / or fundraising experience.
Some aspects of the role include:
- Preparing for Board Meetings by reading all Board Documents sent prior to the meeting
- Provide guidance when required, to support CEO and Operations Manager
- Contribute to Improving Lives' review of Strategic Plan, as required
- Review policies and give feedback during Board Meetings
