ACE Cardiff is a small and vibrant educational charity working in the Butetown and Grangetown areas of Cardiff. With our two main projects we deliver English lessons to adults and out-of-school learning activities to children in an area of Cardiff that falls into one or more areas of deprivation (Welsh Index of Multiple Deprivation 2019). Our ethos is to help people improve their life through education, be it through better connections with their community by improving their English or helping children to be more curious and confidence about learning in The Learning Club.
We are seeking a Trustee Treasurer to monitor our finances as well as offer ongoing support as a trustee. The successful candidate will manage the overall finances of the organisation and maintain financial accuracy and compliance, working together with a member of staff who manages the day-to-day bookkeeping, volunteer expense management and purchasing.
As part of a small charity, we would be looking for someone to become a key part of the organisation and help us continue to grow and thrive, therefore, the ideal candidate would have sufficient time available to help us do this.
Responsibilities:

We are looking for two people with the following skills and experiences:
- A practising lawyer working in a corporate environment. It is desirable to have multinational experience.
- Public health qualification or experience at a senior level in global public health. Ideally (but not essential) having a clinical background.

We hope to engage with people who have operated across different cultures and regions and who have global experience in multiple countries and regions. Time Commitment
The Global Board meets quarterly, usually in Richmond, Greater London, though we’re flexible about location and will meet all accessibility needs. We have a number of committees; Trustees usually join one or two committees. The committees include Finance and Audit, Governance and Risk, Safeguarding, Nominations and Remuneration; typically, committees meet four times a year online. Additionally, Trustees participate in an annual strategy away day, providing a crucial opportunity for an in-depth discussion of parkrun’s direction and strategy. The overall time commitment is the equivalent of up to 1-2 days per month; this is inclusive of board meetings, ad hoc discussions with the executive, attending events, and preparation for meetings. We are looking for Trustees who are based in the UK.

Staff and Volunteers offer regular support, including providing emotional and practical help to families in the families’ own homes and connecting families with specialist services within the community.
We are looking to recruit a new Chair of Trustees and additional Trustees; who will increase the range of skills and experience on the Board. This is essential for us to make the best decisions for HSEEB and our families. For the Chair role, you will need leadership skills and a good understanding of governance. For the Trustee roles, there is no requirement for you to have been a trustee before, however, you do need to be passionate about improving the lives of children and the families we support.
You will be good at working with others, ready to speak up and ask questions, be thoughtful and open to learning and able to stand back to see the bigger picture. You must take the responsibilities of a Trustee seriously.

Little Green Pig is a writing and mentoring charity for children and young people from under-resourced communities in Brighton and Hove and across Sussex.
We believe that everyone, whatever their background, has a right to write and needs a space to create. We believe something special happens when you pick up a pen; we believe that writing grows self-confidence and communication, develops empathy, and builds healthy communities. We serve all young people, but we focus our resources on those from Brighton and East Sussex’s most deprived communities, both in and out of schools, ensuring that children from all backgrounds have a chance to express themselves creatively, tell their stories and expand their horizons.
As well as publications written by young people from travel guides to poetry anthologies, we have created radio shows, soap operas, comic books, a crime drama and our new podcast. We have run 4 innovative immersive residencies in local primary schools and since 2019 we have expanded into East and West Sussex, starting to develop hubs in both Eastbourne and Worthing.
We have four staff – about to become five - supported by freelance artists and workshop leaders, over 50 volunteers, and a strong team of Ambassadors. As a Registered Charity, all decisions are overseen by our Board of Trustees – they set the direction, and help plan, monitor and evaluate the work. Alongside our Board, we have an active and engaged youth board ensuring that youth voices remain at the heart of the organisation, and have just appointed two youth board graduates to the main Board as full Trustees. Following the retirement of our current Trustee with legal expertise, we are looking to recruit a new legal mind to join our lively, engaged Board. You will have professional legal experience; you are not expected to offer legal advice, but we would value your attention to detail and an ability to analyse proposals and examine their consequences.
If you are new to the charity sector, we would hope you would be willing to familiarise yourself with the legislation governing charities. Our current legal trustee fulfils the duties of Company Secretary and also manages our Risk Register, and we would hope for that to continue. The Peter Sowerby Foundation is a significant, charitable grant-maker supporting work in the fields of health, education and community, the arts, and the environment.
What We are Looking For
The Foundation is currently seeking additional trustees to join the Foundation and is particularly looking for individuals with one or more of the following:
· experience working within the health sector/NHS in a front line capacity – we note this could be current GP, consultant, clinician or another similar post
· experience in financial management/strategic oversight – especially at Board Level

Grant Making
The Peter Sowerby Foundation currently supports charities, CICs and registered social and healthcare providers through two main strands of grant making:
· Good Causes Fund – grants of up to £100,000 in the areas of Community, Environment and Conservation, and Education. The Foundation also has a current focus on the seed funding of start-up initiatives and on supporting projects in the area of mental health
· Health Breakthrough Fund – grants designed to provide larger scale funding to those projects that are providing innovation and transformation in health and social care.
On occasion, the Foundation issues Open Calls for projects in a specific and identified area; however, mostly, the Foundation is a non-solicited funder and goes out to the charitable sector to seek out projects of interest in its key areas of strategy.
Principles
In keeping with the wishes and personal character of Dr Sowerby, the Foundation continues to be a funder that is distinctive in its approach to grant-making and which is prepared to push the boundaries of achievement within its chosen fields so as to make a tangible and lasting impact. The Foundation also places innovation and influence on wider policy and practice at the forefront of grant making .
In terms of geography, the Foundation largely supports UK-wide projects but has occasionally provided grants to international ventures. Trustees are particularly interested in supporting projects in Dr Sowerby’s much-loved home of North Yorkshire.
Role Description
The trustees have overall control of the governance of the Foundation and are ultimately responsible for the charity. Grant solicitation and directorial support is provided under contract from Cause4, whilst an outsourced finance function is provided by FLB Accountants. The Foundation also employs a governance expert as administrator to the board.
The Foundation has an expendable endowment of some £65M and Trustees are advised by their investment consultancy, HFMC Wealth, with investment management services provided by four leading investment houses.
The Board meets virtually each quarter (for up to three hours) and, from time to time, Trustees are also asked to attend to governance and grant matters remotely between meetings. We estimate the total time commitment to be about four-six days per year.
Specific responsibilities of trustees include:
- reviewing and setting the strategic aims for the Foundation
- reviewing progress against the strategic aims
- setting annual budgets for grant-making and management
- considering operational and financial risks
- authorising grant programmes
- approving and assessing grants
- approving the investment policy and reviewing investment performance and risk
- approving annual accounts and annual report.
Person Specification
The Foundation is seeking to appoint at least two trustees with skills and experience that can help us achieve our objectives, who can bring energy, enthusiasm, and commitment to the role and who will broaden the diversity of thinking on our Board.
Individuals should have the ability to exercise good, independent judgement and provide a willingness to participate actively in discussion and debate.
Knowledge of the process of charitable grant-making would be beneficial for the role but is not essential.

The treasurer will oversee the monitoring of the organisation’s finances on behalf of the whole council of trustees, to report regularly on them to the council, and to make sure that money and property are properly managed. They will ensure that bookkeeping, record keeping, and budgeting are done properly. This includes:
· Ensuring proper systems are in place for budgeting, financial control (including financial delegations) and reporting

Background To Role
We are seeking a Chair to lead our team of high-performing Trustees. The new Chair will work closely with the CEO and other board members to navigate the evolving and increasingly complex landscape of comms and ensure the continued success of the organisation.
We are open to a Chair from either the private, public or third sector, as we believe there are benefits to having a wide lens. The ideal candidate would have in-depth experience of the comms world, whether that be PR, social media, or marketing. They will also have a strong understanding of the strategic role comms can play for organisations. The candidate may also have a strong understanding of membership organisations and how to successfully grow a membership base.
However, this does not mean you must be directly from a senior comms or membership role! We are open to talking to a wide range of candidates and finding someone with the right level of experience, passion and commitment. You must be willing to invest time in building relationships, developing the Board and understanding the unique opportunities and challenges we and our members face.
Main Responsibilities
The key responsibility of the Chair is to provide support, direction and leadership to the board and Chief Executive, to ensure that the board is effective in its task of overseeing both conformance and performance.
The Chair will:
- Provide leadership to the board, the CEO and staff team. Developing the Board and ensuring the skills and interests of the trustees are used effectively to support and guide the charity, and that trustee's individual goals as a trustee are also achieved.
- Offer direct support and challenge to the Chief Executive, ensuring personal objectives are set and reviewed regularly, development and training supported, and annual performance reviews undertaken.
- Offer advice and guidance to the Chief Executive and staff in pursuing CharityComms’ objectives, as appropriate to the Chair’s governance role but also based on their own professional or sector experience.
Person Specification
- Visionary leadership: ability to set and communicate a clear strategic vision for CharityComms.
- Governance expertise: good understanding of governance principles and practices, including compliance, accountability, decision making and best practices in board management.
- Strategic thinking: ability to think strategically about the organisation’s long-term goals and how to achieve them, especially as CharityComms delivers its new business plan and strategy.
- Effective communication: strong verbal and written communication skills, able to articulate ideas clearly and persuasively.
- Active listening: excellent listening skills to understand different perspectives and build consensus.
- Financial literacy: good understanding of financial management principles, including budgeting, financial reporting, and business development.
- Sector knowledge: previous trustee experience and a good understanding of the charity sector, including key trends, challenges, and opportunities affecting it and communicators working in it.

Home-Start Guildford is an independent charity based in Guildford committed to promoting the welfare of local families and children. We are part of Home-Start UK, one of the UK’s leading family support charities, benefiting from their policy framework and quality assurance, but not funding. The Role and What We Are Looking for in a New Trustee
We are looking to recruit 3 additional Trustees to increase the range of skills and experience on the Board. This is essential for us to make the best decisions for Home-Start Guildford and our families. There is no requirement for you to have been a trustee before, however, you do need to be passionate about improving the lives of children and the families we support. You will be good at working with others, ready to speak up and ask questions, be thoughtful and open to learning, and able to stand back to see the bigger picture. You must take the responsibilities of a Trustee seriously.
We are looking to better reflect the experiences of our community, to bring the skills and experiences of diverse Trustees to the Board. We are particularly interested in hearing from individuals with experience in areas such as marketing, fundraising, business strategy, governance, event planning, bid writing, local networks, IT, and media.
Trustees are the people who make the top-level decisions for our charity. Our Board includes people with experience and skills in early years, education, and business. We expect new trustees to have empathy with our cause and our beneficiaries. Support from local charity-support organisations is always available, and a full induction to our organisation will be provided, including access to external training.
If you can think strategically and plan long-term, you have the primary skills needed by our trustees. You’ll also need to be able to work collectively with other Board members. Support from our paid employees is always available, as they handle the day-to-day running of the organisation.
We are a charity, not a business, but we apply business principles to governing our organisation. We are looking for people from a variety of backgrounds to join our charity. We ask for about six hours of your time per month, and the ability to join face to face board meetings in Guildford that are usually held every 6-8 weeks on a Monday or Friday morning.
