Last year, our food helped over 500 frontline charities and community groups across the Midlands to provide 13 million meals.
FareShare Midlands (FSM) is the region’s largest food redistribution charity. We take good-to-eat surplus food from the food industry and get it to our Members - frontline charities and community groups all over the Midlands. We turn an environmental problem into a social solution.
Last year we redistributed almost 5,794 tonnes of food from our warehouses in Birmingham, Leicester and Nottingham. It is sorted and stored by our dedicated teams of staff and volunteers, and then redistributed to around 800 Members including food pantries and cafes, homeless shelters and drop-in centres.
These local organisations turn the food into food parcels, affordable shopping and delicious meals for people of all ages. As well as food, our Members provide vital support to families and the elderly, many of whom are facing challenging circumstances and living in poverty.
Last year our food reached more than 83,000 vulnerable people every week, providing 13 million meals. At the same time, we are growing our Employability Programmes to help people gain work experience, skills and jobs.

The Role
Our Trustees set the strategic direction for the organisation, ensuring alignment to our values and are responsible for setting organisational strategy, policy, defining goals, agreeing the financial plan and evaluating performance.
We are looking for you to bring your life experience, insight, expertise and skills together with the enthusiasm and commitment to helping to reduce food insecurity and unnecessary food waste. You will have a passion for the work we do, have an understanding of poverty and inequality and a commitment to our values around a fairer and more equal society.
We welcome applicants who have little or no Trustee experience but a strong desire to be part of a force for good and helping to create lasting change. An inquisitive mind and confidence to interrogate information provided to you by the Leadership Team.
It is imperative for us to have a board which reflects a range of backgrounds and identities and, most importantly, represents the people we exist to support, as we believe that such increased diversity will improve our creativity and decision making.

The Commitment
The trustee board meets quarterly (January, April, July and October). Meetings are usually on a Saturday morning and last for 2-3 hours, often remotely. Plus one strategy day/board development day per year. Generally, board members have the opportunity to be part of or chair a committee too.

Mental Health Resource is a well-established, independent charity based in Tunbridge Wells, Kent. We are passionate about improving mental wellbeing in our community, and aim to do this by enabling people to feel supported and valued, providing opportunities for social connections and by raising awareness of mental health. We deliver high quality and effective services across West Kent providing safe spaces and person-centred mental health support.
We provide comprehensive services with both a focus on short term and long-term mental health support, enabling people to access our projects for as longs as they want or need support. Our beneficiaries have complex and enduring mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, PTSD, self-harming, psychosis, schizophrenia and bi-polar and, on average, we work with over 900 adults and young people each year.
About the Trustee roles
You would be working with other trustees who have different skills, knowledge and experience. It's an interesting role in which you can help formulate ideas about how we as an organisation can best address the challenges and opportunities that exist in an increasingly complex and changing environment.
We would love to hear from you if you have a true interest in helping to improve the lives of those with mental health conditions in our community, and especially if you have skills or experience in working in a charity or in finance. No experience of being a trustee is necessary.
You would be expected to attend and participate in six Board meetings per year which are held via Teams/Zoom and last 2-3 hrs. Expected Time Commitments
Trustees are asked to attend four trustee (Council) meetings per year, one of which includes the AGM. Further support to the Trust and attendance to other committee meetings are encouraged, but it is recognised that these would be dependent on the individual’s personal circumstances and other commitments.
Hybrid working - Meetings ideally take place ‘in person’ at the Bendrigg site (LA8 0NR) (minimum of two per year), however, online access can usually be made available if required.

Rekindle was started in Newtown, Powys in 1997 by a group of people who had all experienced mental health problems within their own families. The aim was to give relief to those suffering from mental illness with therapy and targeted activities. Rekindle is all about recovery, the recovery of mental health, the recovery of opportunity and the recovery of a fulfilled life.
What will you be doing?
In addition to general trustee responsibilities, we're particularly interested with in candidates who have an interest in local business connections or experience in fundraising or mental health service delivery. Depending on skill, some specific responsibilities may include:
- Fundraising oversight

Time commitment
- Estimated at 8 - 10 hours a month.
- The board meet 4 times a year, generally in person. Remote attendance can be supported, but trustees are encouraged to attend at least 2 meetings a year face to face.
- Trustees are also expected to contribute ad hoc and occasional time outside of board meetings, the majority of which is done remotely.

You do not need previous governance experience to join the board. We will provide an induction an ongoing support. We are also eager to diversify our board and welcome younger trustees and those with lived experience.
We are particularly looking for skills in fundraising and service development.

Family Thing Dance is a small but growing charity that provides inclusive dance classes for people with learning differences and diverse abilities. We are looking for Trustees to join our Board to offer governance and support to grow the charity.
The dance base is commercial dance and hip-hop. Family Thing's mission is to provide opportunities for empowerment, support and a sense of belonging using dance as a vehicle to reach these aims.
Family Thing is passionate about providing these dance opportunities for everyone. There are many reasons why. Mencap lists the main benefits of taking part in leisure activities as improving physical and mental health, personal social skills, self-worth and confidence, and social attitudes (Mencap, 2019). Yet despite these widely understood benefits, only 16.8% of people with a learning disability take part in a sport or physical activities at least once a week, compared with 39.9% of the general population (Sport England, 2018). Additionally, there is a great deal of evidence that inactivity is a major contributing factor of ill health in people with learning disabilities. Only 9% of participants in a 2016 review met the minimum recommended guidelines for physical activity (Dairo et al, 2016).
We know that organisations like Family Thing play a role in the well-being of people with learning disabilities by providing activities that promote good physical health as well as positive psychological and social stimulation, and offers a way to overcome situations such as loneliness and anxiety. We know that a positive impact of Family Thing is the increase in social engagement and improvements in physical and mental well-being for those who participate in our classes.
Activities: Family Thing offers free or subsidised, supportive, fun and creative dance classes to diverse groups of children, young people and adults. During each session, dancers are invited to create their own ‘dance hero persona’, and have opportunities to express themselves as individuals with the support of the group. There is a focus on strengthening their sense of community through the concept of “supporting your crew”. As defined by those who attend the groups, the overall aim is to create a “big family” that’ll dance altogether basically!
What are we looking for?
At this particular time we are keen to find people with a financial services background and someone who may be willing to take on the role of Treasurer in due course and/or someone with marketing skills, including digital marketing.
Experience
- Experience of the dance community (desirable but not essential)
- An understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion and a desire to support those with learning differences and diverse abilities
- Leadership experience (desirable but not essential)
- Experience of delivering strategic organisational change (desirable but not essential)
It is not necessary to have previous board experience as training and support can be given

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Strategic
· To assist and advise in the formation of the KWC’s strategy with particular regard to ensuring KWC has the clinical expertise to deliver the strategy.
2. Clinical
·To offer advice and support to the Clinical Manager in the development of KWC’s clinical services.
·To support the Clinical Manager in the development of innovative and developmental concepts for volunteers, staff and service users where appropriate.
· To assist the Clinical Manager, staff, and Board members in networking within the clinical sector.
· Where needed to support the Clinical Manager in the recruitment of Supervisors.
· To make recommendations to the Board of appropriate clinical changes to KWC’s Policies and Procedures and controls.
· To ensure the Board receives appropriate information on the activities that affect the clinical running of KWC.
3. Governance
· To ensure the Board is aware of its clinical duties and responsibilities and the need to comply with legislation and BACP code of ethics.
· To ensure all clinical policies, procedures and any appointment of external clinical advisors are reviewed on a regular basis.
· To monitor and report to the Board and offer solutions to any clinical concerns.
5. Key Qualities/Experience
· Experience in a Senior Clinical role; ideally currently working in counselling, psychotherapy and or supervising counsellors and psychotherapists.
· Experience in developing Clinical Services and of working within the community.
· Good communication/interpersonal and decision- making skills.
· Ability to work collaboratively and constructively as a member of the Board.
· Willingness to devote the necessary time and effort to the role of Trustee.
· An understanding and acceptance of legal duties, responsibilities, and liabilities of trusteeship.
· Good independent judgment, strategic perspective, and vision.

With our Head Office based in Walton on Thames, Surrey, our charity offers practical and emotional support to families across the Borough of Elmbridge who are struggling to cope for a variety of reasons. We’re there for parents when they need us the most, because childhood can’t wait.
The role of Trustee is an important one – bringing the requiredgovernance and strategic guidance that every charity needs to run successfully and ethically. Home-Start Elmbridge Trustees typically attend a two-hour Board meeting every six weeks and provide strategic and governance support as and when required. We currently have six Trustees plus a Chairperson and would like to increase this to a minimum of eight Trustees.

• Maintain an overview of the organisation’s financial status and viability and provide overall financial management advice to the Board and to the Chief Executive
• Advise and monitor financial risks to which the organisation is exposed
• Oversight of and input into financial controls
• Involvement in the preparation of the Trustees’ Annual Report and Accounts (TARA) and Annual Review
Strategic input and budget monitoring
• Work with the Chief Executive to draft 1-3 year budgets to deliver the strategic plan
• Advise on the financial implications of the strategic plan
• Support the Chief Executive’s review of monthly management accounts as needed
Additionally, the Honorary Treasurer is a key member of the Management Committee, which – amongst other duties – reviews and makes recommendations to the Board on staff pay in line with the charity’s policy

ABOUT THE ROLE

Main duties
Developing and reviewing strategic aims
- Consider the Association’s strategic plans and make sure they reflect safeguarding legislation, relevant regulations, statutory guidance, and the safeguarding expectations of the Charities Commission
- Work with the senior staff and volunteers to regularly review whether the practice of the Association is creating a safer culture and keeping people safe.
- Check that the Association’s risk register reflects current safeguarding risks appropriately and has put in place effective risk mitigations.
- Abide by the principles laid down in the person specification (and code of conduct).
- Attend meetings of the Trustee Board and the reporting committees (frequency varies).
- Reflect the Scouts’ vision, strategy, major policies and values at all times.
- Contribute specific skills, experience and contacts in support of our activities.
Ensuring policies and practice are effective and in keeping with aims
Make sure there is an annual review of safeguarding policies and procedures and that this is reported to trustees.
- Scrutinise the performance of the Association relating to safeguarding to see whether policies and procedures are effective.
- Make sure there is a regular effective (internal and external) quality assurance framework using qualitative and quantitative data to monitor the effectiveness of safeguarding practice.
- Learn from case reviews locally and nationally, to improve the Association’s policies, procedures and practices.
- Reflect the Trustees’ policies and concerns in all interactions with the Movement.
- Assist in the implementation of the Association’s strategic goals.
Creating the right culture
- Champion safeguarding throughout the Association.
- Attend relevant safeguarding training events and conferences.
- Support the trustees in developing their individual and collective understanding of safeguarding.
- Attend meetings, activities, projects to engage with staff, volunteers and young people to understand safeguarding on the ground.
- Support regular safeguarding updates for staff, volunteers and young people.
- Make sure you have ways of gathering the views of staff and volunteers in relation to safeguarding and sharing these with the Board.
- Work effectively as a team member of the Trustee Board in exercising its responsibilities and functions.
- Protect the assets and integrity of the charity, with regard to best practice.
- Maintain good relations with Association staff.
- Fulfil such other duties and assignments as may be required from time to time by the Trustee Board.
- Engage with members of the Movement at other levels in the organisation.
THE PERSON
As a Trustee of the Board, you should be able to demonstrate and provide evidence of the following criteria listed under Part 1 within your written application. This will be tested further at the preliminary interview stage, along with the criteria listed under Part 2.
We are particularly interested in applications from candidates with strategic safeguarding experience in sectors such as Social Care (e.g. service manager to director role experience), Health (e.g. deputy or chief nurse experience), Police (e.g. Superintendent to Chief Constable experience) and Education (e.g. Head Teacher experience).
Part 1
- The successful candidate will be able to give evidence of:
- A record of proven and significant achievement and executive background in operational and strategic safeguarding.
- An understanding of the type of work undertaken by the Association and commitment to the values and ethos of The Scout Association.
- Successful experience of operating on a board or a major committee in a charitable, public sector or commercial organisation.
- Demonstrable experience of building and sustaining relationships with key stakeholders and colleagues to achieve organisational objectives.
- Confident and effective communication skills with a range of audiences, including Trustees, the Chief Executive, senior staff, senior volunteers and others, and the ability to challenge in a constructive way.
Part 2
- An understanding of how to motivate and enthuse volunteers.
- A proven track record of sound judgement and effective decision-making.
- An understanding of the respective roles of the Chair, Trustees, UK Chief Commissioner and Chief Executive.
- A track record of commitment to promoting inclusion, equality and diversity.
- Wider involvement with the voluntary sector and other networks.
- Enthusiasm, energy and time to commit to this role.
Other essential criteria
- Commitment to attend four Board of Trustee meetings each calendar year, one of those will be a two-day residential held over the weekend).
- Attendance at the Annual General Meeting of the Council (AGM) held in the first week of September each year (this will be on a Saturday).
- Availability to chair the Safeguarding Committee, who meet four times per year. Three of these meetings are virtual and outside 9-5 working hours – the fourth meeting will be a full-day face-to-face session.
APPOINTMENT TERM
Appointments are typically for an initial three-year term, with the possibility of a further term of three years subject to a satisfactory appraisal.
REMUNERATION AND EXPENSES
In common with other registered charities, there is no remuneration directly associated with the role, although the Association will reimburse fully for all reasonable and properly documented expenses incurred in performing duties.

Our board of trustees is essential to Alike’s mission. Working as a team, they take shared responsibility for maintaining alignment between our vision, strategy and day-to-day operations. Just as importantly, they support and challenge the executive team, driving Alike’s growth, inspiring new approaches, and helping us scale. Their perspective, insights, passion and collective experience is crucial to our mission as we continue combating loneliness and isolation throughout the cancer community.
Your Responsibilities:
Joining our board of trustees is a commitment to Alike’s mission as well as our products. We need our trustees to not just believe in our potential, but to authentically champion it. Our ideal trustee can clearly envision Alike taking a leading role in combating isolation in the cancer community - and in making a lasting, positive change. We’re looking for active, engaged and experienced trustees to join our existing board during this thrilling period of growth and innovation.
Beyond that, you would be required to collaborate on certain statutory duties (listed below), and to provide advice and guidance throughout Alike’s new initiatives. The power of our board lies in a diversity of viewpoints, so your unique combination of specialist knowledge, skills and experiences is key to success in this role.
We would expect you to contribute this set of skills to the board’s shared responsibility: making sound decisions for the charity’s direction. This would include - but by no means be limited to - scrutinising board papers, leading meetings, chairing discussions and taking an active role in board meetings.
Time Commitment:
- Regular board meetings (6 per year, 3 in-person meetings, 3 virtual)
- Additional time for sub-committee work and strategic planning
- Flexible availability for brief ad-hoc advisory calls or meetings
- Attendance at our Annual General Meeting in central London
Skills and Experience:
- An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties and responsibilities of trusteeship
- An understanding of the challenges faced by those living with cancer and the impact of emerging technology in addressing these challenges
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative working style
- Strategic and critical thinking skills - a problem-solver with a lateral thinking style
- Strong financial literacy
- An understanding of the tenets of employment law and GDPR compliance at scale

BUBIC (Bringing Unity Back Into the Community) continues to grow and evolve, we are seeking dedicated and passionate individuals to join our Board of Trustees.
Role overview: As a Trustee, you will be jointly responsible with other Board members for directing BUBIC’s affairs. You will ensure that the organisation is solvent, well-run, and delivering the outcomes for which it has been set up. You will safeguard and promote the values and mission of BUBIC, determine its strategy and structure, and ensure that it operates effectively, responsibly, and accountably. Additionally, you will ensure the effective functioning of BUBIC’s Board of Trustees and act in line with the Seven Principles of Public Life (available on gov uk)
Key responsibilities:
- Attend at least monthly Board and other meetings.
- Participate in one or more Board sub-groups.
- Scrutinise Board papers and other communications.
- Lead and contribute to discussions, providing guidance based on your specific skills, knowledge, and expertise.
- Abide by BUBIC’s policies and procedures.
- Act as a signatory where required.
- Promote BUBIC to our beneficiaries, funders, and the wider public.
Treasurer-specific responsibilities: For our Treasurer, we are looking for someone who:
- Has a strong working knowledge of financial management of companies, and if this is not specifically charity finance, is willing to learn more.
- Can explain financial information to others who have less financial expertise.
- Is willing to convene our finance sub-group.

You have a strong personal commitment to the BUBIC’s aims and objectives. You will bring specific skills, knowledge and expertise to the role including one or more of the following:
- experienced Finance Director ideally a qualified accountant
- lived experience (people who are in recovery from, and family members affected by, problem alcohol or drug use)
- HR
- fundraising
- health and social care
- social enterprise
- social researcher
- communications
- legal/contract law
