We provide nature and arts based creative, social and therapeutic activities for co-workers (the name we give to our primary beneficiaries). With 3-year funding from The National Lottery Community Fund to help us ‘grow our community’ and increase the sustainability of our impact we’re seeking a Community Activities & Volunteering Lead to drive continuous improvement and development of volunteer-led community activities for the benefit of co-workers as well as managing the day to day running of our volunteer programme.

Islington Centre for Refugees and Migrants is seeking a committed and motivated Head of Fundraising and Communications. Do you want to help refugees and asylum seekers in London? We are a small, growing charity, founded in 1997, with an expenditure budget of roughly £570,000 for the year ahead. This year we worked with 200 people offering compassionate, long term and holistic support including: a warm welcoming Centre in Islington; an Online School teaching English and offering activities to promote wellbeing; digital inclusion; grants to people in destitution and our Support Service which offers advocacy and advice to people on accessing housing, healthcare and legal advice. 

About the role: 

The successful applicant will work alongside our Trustees, our CEO and our existing Head of Fundraising and Communications in a jobshare to meet challenging fundraising targets. You will be joining us at an exciting time of development, as we open at our third site in Islington, welcome new members of staff to our team and begin work on a new strategy for 2025-2028. We have a strong track record of grant fundraising and seek someone who can support us to diversify our income, develop a fundraising strategy with a variety of income streams and bring experience and ideas to raise our profile. You will be part of a small and highly committed fundraising team of three including the existing Head of Fundraising and Communications, our Fundraising Officer and yourself. This role will focus on corporate, community, and major donor stewardship. Our work is hybrid and the role requires working both at the Centre in Islington and from home. As the Head of Fundraising and Communications, you will play a pivotal role in supporting some of the most vulnerable refugees, asylum seekers and migrants in London to rebuild their lives.

The Organisation

AoD’s Welfare Benefits Service

The Welfare Benefits Service provides free independent advice and assistance to all disabled residents and their carers who live and work in Hammersmith and Fulham borough. The service is for all ages, including parents and carers of disabled children.

We provide free advice and assistance, up to and including Tribunal level, on all Department for Work & Pensions (DWP) benefits, Tax Credits, and some local authority benefits.

Welfare Benefits Advisor will

• Provide high quality Welfare Benefits advice and casework and, as appropriate, representation at the 1st Tier Tribunals for disabled individuals of the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham.
• Write Mandatory Reconsideration requests and in a limited number of cases, write appeal submissions.
• Undertake direct welfare advice and casework.
• Maintain appropriate records of work undertaken using an appropriate electronic Welfare Benefits Recording and Information System via AoD’s Charity Log, and through the use of Excel
• Gather information to monitor and evaluate the service.
• Assist with funding applications / tender bids by providing basic factual information to Fund Raising Manager/CEO/Managers to enable them to apply for funding and also enable them to write funding/tender applications.
• Contribute to Welfare Benefits related publicity material, social media, reports for the Board of Trustees and other stakeholders and other documents as required.
• This post requires travel to different locations, e.g. for home visits.

JOB PURPOSE 

We are seeking a dynamic, creative and experienced corporate partnerships new business expert to join our team.

This pivotal new role will be responsible for securing high-value, seven-figure (financial and non-financial) partnerships with corporate entities that protect and empower refugees globally.

The successful candidate will oversee the development and implementation of strategic partnership prospecting, manage relationships with key corporate prospects, and line manage a Senior Corporate Partnerships Officer.

This role is an 18-month fixed-term contract.

• Supervise and mentor a Senior Corporate Partnerships Officer.
• Work closely with internal teams, including Philanthropy and Communications, to align partnership efforts with organisational priorities.
• Remain flexible and quickly respond to emergency situations, identifying and responding to fundraising opportunities at pace.
• Represent UK for UNHCR at industry events, conferences, and networking opportunities to enhance visibility and build connections.

The Pepper Pot Centre is a unique Day Centre situated in the heart of Ladbroke Grove which supports over 60s Caribbean, African and other BME communities of Kensington and Chelsea and neighbouring boroughs and is open to all. About the role

Role Overview

The accountant will play a critical role in maintaining the foundation’s financial health, ensuring compliance with charity law, and supporting its mission through effective financial management.

You will be responsible for bookkeeping, financial management, and providing insightful financial analysis to support decision-making by senior staff and trustees.

Key Responsibilities

1. Bookkeeping

• Perform regular bookkeeping tasks in a timely manner including:

- Accounting for purchase invoices coding to the correct activity and account code;
- Accounting for income receipts to the correct fund – restricted or unrestricted and account code
- Monthly payroll – and journal to correct activity and account code;
- Monthly pension submissions;
- Accounting for direct card payments;
- bank reconciliations – sterling, Euro and other currencies;
- accounting for accruals and prepayments on a monthly basis;
- regular review of accounting transactions to ensure all transactions tracked correctly;
- proper knowledge and application of fund accounting.

2. Statutory Accounts

• Preparation of Statutory accounts to comply with Charity and Company law
• Preparation of backing documentation for audit purposes;
• Co-ordination with auditors during audit process to ensure necessary adjustments posited correctly where appropriate.

3. Finance Management

• Implement and maintain financial controls to ensure efficiency, stability, and good governance, including record-keeping to provide a clear audit trail.
• Conduct detailed analysis of different charitable activities and funds, managing both restricted and unrestricted funds.
• Prepare monthly and quarterly management accounts in a timely manner, highlighting significant points and discussing them with senior staff and trustees.
• Monitor financial activity against specific projects and funding streams, providing regular updates and analysis.
• Conduct an annual review of internal controls to ensure compliance and identify areas for improvement.

Essential Requirements

• Proven experience as an accountant in the charity sector or a similar environment.
• Strong knowledge of charity law, including handling restricted and unrestricted funds.

Desirable Skills

• Experience in preparing financial reports for senior management and trustees.

Bladder cancer is not a rare cancer – but it does have a low profile, lack of awareness, low research investment and desperately needs new treatments. Over 22,000 people are diagnosed each year in the UK – there is a high level of recurrence. There is a lack of information and support for patients.  With your help, Action Bladder Cancer UK can radically improve this. 

The role

ABC UK is an established charity, with exciting new projects. We have an active network of volunteers, a full time Chief Executive and core staff and a range of project staff.  You will report to Chief Executive ABC UK and will work closely with our ABC UK Patient Support team, ABC UK trustees and patient volunteers.

The role supports ABC UK’s core Patient Support Programme.  We provide information and support for those with bladder cancer, a direct patient support service, help establish and sustain support groups for bladder cancer patients, provide patient information about bladder cancer to patients and major centres of bladder cancer treatment, and run bladder cancer information events (both online and face to face).  We also work to increase our networks with health professionals, to help them support their patients.  We run the ABC UK Education Programme for health professionals and you will be involved in planning and delivering nurse education events.  We want to build our networks both regionally and nationally and to be responsive to the need for information, awareness and support for those with bladder cancer, and the health professionals treating them. We now want to add to the team to increase our impact even further.

You will work remotely, however very much working as part of the Patient Support team, and working closely with other colleagues and volunteers, with regular catch-up meetings (online) and occasional face to face team meetings.  You will also be required to travel as necessary for meetings and patient or health professional events and to help create and sustain our networks with health professionals and cancer support services.  You will be based in the North of England and within easy travelling distance of centres such as Sheffield, Leeds, Hull and further North and adjacent counties.  We may consider candidates outside of these regions, if they have directly appropriate experience and skills.

Key Responsibilities

 Networking

• Contact point for Hospitals/Urology Depts/Cancer Centres. Making pro-active contact and arranging supply of bladder cancer patient information and building relationships on a regional basis;
• Building contacts with specialist urology/cancer nurses, making them aware of ABC UK and our resources;
• Maintaining up-to-date contact database: including major urology departments, cancer centres, regional cancer networks etc;
• Regional contacts (working with volunteer patient advisors) – including regional cancer networks/charities etc – to build local networks;
• Co-ordinating periodic mailings of ABC UK patient information materials to hospitals/urology services (mailing handled by central admin).

Events

• ABC UK runs both face to face and online events.  Organising and attending ABC UK patient and health professional events, working as part of a team with other ABC UK Patient Support Officers and volunteers;
• Occasional attendance at/involvement with regional cancer events, health professional and/or patient or well-being events (including taking the ABC UK stand to such events);
• You will also be required to present at events on occasion – both online and face to face;
• Organising, development of (with colleagues) and participation in ABC UK online patient events and face to face events, and ABC UK health professional events both online and face to face.

Patient Support Groups

ABC UK works to help set up and maintain support groups for bladder cancer patients – these groups are self-running, often linked to a major hospital. 

• Help maintain database of Groups: contact details, details of meeting etc – including information for updating ABC UK website and ABC UK social media;
• Acting as ABC UK contact point for bladder cancer patient support groups, including making presentations;
• Pro-actively maintaining regular contact with PSG’s – re supply of ABC UK materials, updating info, ascertaining needs re other materials or support required and developing best practice case studies;
• Working with health professionals wanting to set up new groups, periodically attending group meetings and meeting volunteers.

Patient Materials

Working with ABC UK Executive, ABC UK Patient Support team and patient volunteers on the development of patient information materials both on-line and in print.

Communications

• News Updates: contributing as part of a team on regular news updates for health professionals, support groups and patients;
• Social media: working as part of a team on increasing ABC UK social media presence.

The Finance and Operations Officer will provide general support to the Head of Finance and Operations across the following areas: 

Office Management

• Managing day-to-day relationship with landlord

• Ensuring office meets all health & safety requirements

Terms and Conditions

• Location: Money and Mental Health’s central London office for at least 2 days per week with option for home working the rest of the time. The office is wheelchair accessible.

• Hours: 3 to 4 days (22.5 to 30 hours) a week. The charity has a flexible working policy with core hours of 10am - 3pm and remaining contracted hours distributed throughout the week flexibly. We are open to discussing other flexible arrangements, such as accommodating school runs.
