What we are looking for
As a small charity we have a committed and enthusiastic team of employees and volunteers on the ground who work to support our young people and their carers. As Roots looks to expand its work and programmes, we are seeking to enhance our board in order to embed a new strategic plan and provide support to the growing number of employees.
We are specifically interested in trustees who have experience in any of the following areas to strengthen our existing skills set.

We are particularly keen this time to recruit Trustees with relevant lived experience, such as care leavers and kinship carers.
We also encourage applications from young, disabled or Welsh speakers, and people that live in Swansea and the surrounding areas, as these groups are currently under represented on our Board. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable but not essential.
We are also particularly interested in recruiting a Treasurer. As the organisation grows and receives more funding, it is important that we have a Trustee experienced in financial management, who can oversee the accounts and budgets as well as advising on the financial implications of the new strategic plan.
Role on Trustee board:

To oversee the strategic development and growth of the charity in line with its aims and objectives.

To support events and be an active and contributing member of the trustee board and its activities.

To take the lead in agreed areas, working with sub groups that could include employees and feedback to the wider board.
Commitment required:
We meet as a Board every two months, usually on a Tuesday at 5pm for 2 hours. The Trustees will be provided with the relevant papers in advance of meetings, preparation and reading for the meeting usually takes about an hour.
There is an expectation that Trustees are available for 80% of these meetings (ie 5 per year) and to undertake agreed tasks outside of these times. The monthly commitment is approximately 6 hours per month, including meetings and meeting preparation.
The Trustees also meet twice a year in person at Roots, usually in the spring for half a day and autumn for a full day.
We are seeking Trustees that will also be visible and engage in activities at certain times of the year, for example celebrating successes, supporting activities such as trips with young people and be public facing where agreed to promote the organisation. One Trustee per month is expected to visit Roots, for visibility and to help support the staff and young people.

Reimbursement / allowance entitlement.
Trustees will be entitled to mileage allowance and other reasonable expenses to attend meetings in person and take part in agreed activities.

About Safe Passage International
Safe Passage International (SPI) is a charity that champions the rights of people seeking asylum and displaced people as they flee persecution. We use the law to help them access safe routes to a place of safety and we work alongside them to campaign for change and build public support for safe passage for all.
We have a particular focus on supporting unaccompanied children and young people to reunite with family and reach protection in Europe, although we also work with adults and family groups too.
We are based in the UK, with small offices also in France and Greece. These offices are locally registered not for profit companies who are part of Safe Passage International, overseen by the international UK Board of Trustees.
Safe Passage International advances its mission through five main strands of work:

providing legal advice to asylum-seekers and their family members to help them be safely and legally reunited;

TRUSTEE - ROLE DESCRIPTION
Role: Trustee

What will you be doing?
The objective of Self Help UK is to promote the health and well-being of individuals through participation in self-help groups and peer support activities.
We are at an exciting time moving from a mainly Nottingham-based charity into an organisation working across the UK.
We are looking to expand the range of expertise and experience of our Board and are looking to recruit additional Trustees.
Trustees meetings are usually held every six weeks, plus there is an AGM, away days, and any sub-committee meetings that trustees may be involved in. Most meetings will remain virtual but there will from time to time be a need to attend key meetings and events in Nottingham. The time commitment is approximately 4-8 hours per month, but there may be occasions when more time is required for a short period.
Trustee positions are unremunerated, but reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.

We help people manage all aspects of their diagnosis, care, and life with HIV. We are a peer lead peer run charity and 90% of our staff are living with HIV. Trustee Role Description
A Trustee shares the responsibility for the overall governance and strategic direction of the charity, developing the organisation’s aims, objectives, and goals in accordance with the governing document, legal and regulatory guidelines.
Trustees advise, govern, oversee policy and direction, and assist with the leadership and general promotion of Positively UK to support the organisation’s mission and needs.
Primary responsibilities
- Ensuring the charity and its representatives function within the legal and regulatory framework of the sector and in line with Positively UK’s constitution
- Upholding the fiduciary duty invested in the position, undertaking such duties in a way that adds to public confidence and trust in the charity. Determine the overall direction and development of the charity through good governance and clear strategic planning.
- Acting in the best interest of the charity, beneficiaries, and future beneficiaries at all times.
- Promoting and developing the charity for it to grow and maintain its relevance to society.
- Maintaining sound financial management of the charity’s resources
- Ensuring the expenditure is in line with the organisation’s objectives, and investment activities meet accepted standards and policies.
- Ensuring the effective and efficient administration of the charity and its resources, acting as a counter-signatory on charity cheques and any applications for funds as requested.
- Interviewing, appointing and performance monitoring of senior staff.
Expectations
- Attend and participate in meetings on a regular basis, and at special events as able.
- Participate on a standing committee of the board, and serve on ad-hoc committees as necessary.
- Be alert to community concerns that can be addressed by Positively UK’s mission, objectives, and programmes.
- Help communicate and promote Positively UK’s activities widely
- Be familiar with Positively UK’s finances and financial needs.

Length of term

Meetings and time commitment
- The Board of Trustees meets every two months (online or at Positively UK’s offices). The November meeting is combined with the Annual General Meeting.
- Trustees are asked to attend additional meetings as representatives of Positively UK as they are determined.
Accountability
Trustees (individually) and the Board (collectively) are responsible and liable for the governance and functioning of the charity. They are accountable to a variety of stakeholders, including service users, members, the Charity Commission, and Companies House.

Oasis Community Housing (part of the wider Oasis Charitable Group) is a Christian homelessness charity with 40 years’ experience of delivering bespoke, effective services for vulnerably housed and people experiencing homelessness.
We exist to reignite a hope and a future for everyone facing homelessness. We believe that anyone’s life can be transformed however dark things may seem.
We run supported accommodation programmes in the North-East and London for young people, particularly young women and mums facing homelessness for a variety of reasons. We also run drop-in crisis centres providing emergency housing on a ‘housing first, no questions asked basis’, a warm shower, food, clothing and access to advice. Additionally we run a programme to help victims of domestic abuse and sexual violence to break the cycle of abusive relationships.
The last 3 years have been tumultuous and challenging for us all due to the enduring legacy of the Covid-19 pandemic. Over this period we have been stretched and tested across the range of our work. Key Responsibilities
Governance and Leadership
- Provide leadership, alongside the CEO, in setting the organisation’s vision, strategy and values.
- Provide leadership to the board, to ensure that trustees act cohesively and effectively in the charity’s best interests, to manage its resources responsibly and act with care and skill.
- Ensure effective governance and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Lead the board in supporting the CEO and Senior Management Team, fostering an effective partnership between the trustees and management.
- Support subcommittees where needed in their roles and responsibilities.

Strategic Planning

- Provide guidance on the development of policies, partnerships, and funding strategies that support long-term financial sustainability.
- Lead the board in reviewing key projects, offering strategic insights into new opportunities and risks.
Fundraising and External Relations
- Act as an ambassador for Beaver Trust, leading by example in alignment with our core values.
- Support fundraising efforts, working with the board and executive team to identify new revenue streams, partners, and donors.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with applicable external stakeholders as required. This may vary according to the chair’s own experience and networks.
- Board Development & Performance
- Work with all committees to ensure that they are representative of the charity and able to work effectively and productively within their remit.
- Conduct /cooperate with annual evaluations of the Chair, other trustees and CEO/board performance, addressing any issues and driving continuous improvement.
- Ensure succession planning is in place for key roles, including the Chair and CEO.
Skills and experience
Essential:
- Demonstrated leadership experience.
- A proven understanding of governance and legal responsibilities of charity trustees, with a strong commitment to high standards of accountability and transparency.

About CMV Action
CMV Action is the only charity in the UK providing support and information to families affected by congenital cytomegalovirus (CMV). Congenital CMV is the most common viral infection that can affect babies before birth, with potential long-term health impacts such as hearing loss, developmental delays and vision loss. It can also cause miscarriage and stillbirth.
As many as 1 in 200 newborn babies are born with congenital CMV. The majority of these will not have any symptoms. However, around 1 in 1,000 born in the UK every year will have permanent disabilities as a result of congenital CMV – around 900 children every year. As congenital CMV is a relatively unknown condition, it is a common misconception that it is rare. It is in fact more common than Down’s syndrome, Toxoplasmosis, Spina Bifida or Cystic Fibrosis.

Disabled people face significant inequalities in education, sport, leisure and employment. They often face multiple barriers to fulfilling their potential and achieving their aspirations. Sport and physical activity have the power to inspire, enable, build self-esteem, and provide success. They can improve physical health, employability, mental well-being and social community inclusion. However, many barriers prevent disabled people from accessing sport. These include a lack of coaching, clubs, transport, equipment and support networks, as well as high costs and negative perceptions of disabled people participating in sport.
We are a fairly new charity established in 2021, with big ambitions for the future. We have started with small but meaningful projects. We are reaching out to disabled people, learning from our projects, and focusing on our vision and purpose.

Trustee - Role Profile
Term of office: 3 years
The Richard Whitehead Foundation exists to support disabled people to achieve their ambitions and improve their social welfare through participation in sport and physical activity.
All Trustees have joint responsibility for the following main duties:
1. Ensure the Richard Whitehead Foundation (RWF) is carrying out its purposes for the public benefit. This means you should:
● ensure you understand RWF’s purposes as set out in its governing document;
● plan what RWF will do, and what you want it to achieve;
● be able to explain how all RWF’s activities are intended to further or support its purposes;
● understand how RWF benefits the public by carrying out its purposes.
2. Comply with RWF’s governing document and the law. You and your co-trustees must:
● make sure that RWF complies with its governing document;
● comply with charity law requirements and other laws that apply to RWF including submitting an annual return.
3. Act in the Richard Whitehead Foundation’s best interests. You must:
● do what you and your co-trustees (and no one else) decide will best enable RWF to carry out its purposes;
● with your co-trustees, make balanced and adequately informed decisions, thinking about the long term as well as the short term;
● avoid putting yourself in a position where your duty to your charity conflicts with your personal interests or loyalty to any other person or body;
● not receive any benefit from RWF unless it’s properly authorised and is clearly in RWF’s interests; this also includes anyone who is financially connected to you, such as a partner, dependent child or business partner.
4. Manage RWF’s resources responsibly. You must act responsibly, reasonably and honestly. This is sometimes called the duty of prudence. Prudence is about exercising sound judgement. You and your co-trustees must:
● make sure RWF’s assets are only used to support or carry out its purposes;
● not take inappropriate risks with RWF’s assets or reputation;
● not over-commit RWF;
● take special care when investing or borrowing;
● comply with any restrictions on spending funds.
5. Act with reasonable care and skill. As someone responsible for governing the Richard Whitehead Foundation, you:
● must use reasonable care and skill, making use of your skills and experience and taking appropriate advice when necessary;
● should give enough time, thought and energy to your role, for example by preparing for, attending and actively participating in all trustees’ meetings.
6. Ensure the Richard Whitehead Foundation is accountable. You and your co-trustees must comply with statutory accounting and reporting requirements. You should also:
● be able to demonstrate that RWF is complying with the law, well run and effective;
● ensure appropriate accountability to members, if RWF develops a membership separate from the trustees;
● ensure accountability within RWF, particularly where you delegate responsibility for particular tasks or decisions to staff or volunteers.
Experience, Skills & Behaviours required to fulfil the role of Trustee effectively:
● Passion for social change and helping disabled people who face significant barriers.
● Awareness and passion for equality, diversity and inclusion.
● Diversity of thought and an openness to listen to fellow Trustees.
● Commitment to attend meetings, and to respond to communication between meetings. Currently the Board meetings are face to face quarterly, usually at a weekend, and with interim online committee meetings, usually in the evenings and quarterly.
● Attention to detail.
● Good communication and interpersonal skills.
● A willingness to be contacted on an ad hoc basis.
● Ability to ensure decisions are taken and followed-up.
● Good time-keeping.

Music Theatre Wales is looking for new Trustees including our first Young Trustee

What are we looking for in our Trustees?
We want Trustees to bring commitment and enthusiasm for the work MTW is doing to re-imagine opera. We want Trustees who care about the things we care about - ensuring that equality, diversity and inclusion lie at the heart of all our work, driving the creative development we believe opera needs, working with artists new to opera, creating opera in different and innovative shapes and forms and learning from the people we work with. We want Trustees who are pro-active and happy to stand up for our vision, and who will also be our critical friend.
Board Leads
We have recently established a number of Board Leads, where a Trustee takes responsibility for a specific area of the company’s work, supporting and consulting with the MTW team and project leads to ensure best possible practice. We will be looking to recruit a Board Lead for our work in Butetown (we are committed to working in Butetown from January 2024 – Summer 2026), alongside the Leads for Welsh, Diversity, Safeguarding and Environment.
Why do we want Young Trustees?
It’s crucial to our work to have young people’s ideas and expertise in the organisation. We need the broadest range of perspective on our Board, and we want to be guided by a range of people who can contribute to the continued development of our work across all communities, and that includes young people. We are looking to recruit at least one person aged 18 to 25 to bring their voice to the table, to help us find the best ways forward for the future of opera, for the future of the company and most importantly, for future audiences and artists from all backgrounds.
We also want to support young people in their professional and personal development, and we will work with Young Trustees to ensure this is an opportunity for them to build their knowledge and experience. Young Trustees will receive mentoring from existing Trustees and training will be provided for any areas they feel less confident in.
In addition to the recruitment of a young trustee and Board Lead for Butetown, we are also looking to recruit Trustees in a general capacity and welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, ages, skills and experience.

Alopecia UK is a small but perfectly formed charity. We have a passionate and dedicated board of trustees, and we are looking for someone to join as our Chair.
Who we are
Alopecia UK is a small national charity working to improve the lives of those affected by alopecia through aims of Support, Awareness and Research. Despite being a small charity we are still the largest alopecia charity in the UK with big ambitions to develop and grow further.
Alopecia UK was founded in 2004 and registered with the Charity Commission of England & Wales in September 2005. Registration with the Scottish Charity Regulator took place in February 2014.
The role
Our Chair of Trustees is responsible for chairing our four trustee meetings each year (two face-to-face, two virtual) and ensuring that Alopecia UK pursues its stated objectives and complies with its governing document.
Founded in 2004, we work to help adults, young people and children affected by alopecia. This includes those with alopecia, as well as their loved ones. We are a small charity, with an annual income under £500,000, working nationally across the UK, led by CEO Sue Schilling.
We have a fantastic and dedicated staff team and board of Trustees, as well as a loyal network of volunteers and supporters. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate and innovative applicant to be part of a small yet dynamic charity and make a lasting difference to the lives of those affected by alopecia. We are currently undergoing a strategic review and are looking for a Chair who can lead our board of Trustees in our next phase of growth.
To enjoy this role you don’t need to be affected by alopecia but you do need to care and be committed to our mission to improve the lives of those who are.
We are looking for someone with the following skills and attributes:
- A commitment to the charity’s mission to improve the lives of those affected by alopecia
- A willingness to devote the necessary time and effort. We estimate the time commitment is approximately 1-2 days a month.
- Strategic vision and experience with trustee or corporate boards, or as a Chair
- Good, independent judgement
- An ability to think creatively and generate ideas
- The confidence to challenge, question and speak their mind
- An ability to effectively chair meetings, ensuring all voices and opinions are equally considered
- An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship
- An ability to work effectively as a member of a team
- A commitment to Nolan’s seven principles of public life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership.
Trustees are encouraged to participate in charity campaigns and attend flagship events e.g., our Big Weekend and Alton Towers trip. Trustees are not paid, but out-of-pocket expenses are reimbursed. Trustees serve at least three years.
