To be a Trustee of an organisation is an exciting and fulfilling role and the most effective Boards are ones which benefit from individuals from a diverse range of backgrounds, experiences and skill sets.

The role of a Trustee is to ensure that GFS fulfils its duty to its beneficiaries and delivers on our vision, mission and values.

Key Responsibilities
The statutory duties of a trustee are:
• To ensure the organisation complies with its governing document (articles of association).
• To ensure that the organisation pursues its objectives as defined in its governing document.
• To ensure the organisation applies its resources exclusively in pursuance of its objectives - the charity must not spend money on activities which are not included in its own objectives.
• To contribute actively to the Board of Trustees’ role in giving firm strategic direction to the organisation, setting overall policy, defining goals and setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets.
• To safeguard the good name and values of the organisation.
• To ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organisation.
• To ensure the financial stability of the organisation.
• To protect and ensure the proper investment of the organisation’s funds.
• To appoint the Chief Executive and monitor their performance.
• In addition, with other trustees, to hold the charity “in trust” for current and future beneficiaries by:
• Ensuring that the charity has a clear vision, mission and strategic direction and is focused on achieving these.
• Being responsible for the performance of the charity and for its behaviour; ensuring that the charity complies with all legal and regulatory requirements.
• Taking care of the charity’s assets.

The Board of Trustees are jointly and severally responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the charity, its financial health, the impact of its activities and developing the organisation’s aims, objectives and goals in accordance with the governing document, legal and regulatory guidelines.

Beyond the statutory duties of GFS, we ask that our trustees take a supporting role within the organisation to help drive the delivery of the strategy and support the team. This could include activities such as chairing committees/working groups, mentoring members of the team or actively supporting meetings with potential funders for example.

Citizens Advice Cornwall is currently seeking to recruit two to three more volunteer Trustees, including a new Chair of the Trustee Board.

What will you be doing: 

We are looking for a new Trustee to take the role of Treasurer to support our Trustee board and staff team, responsible for overseeing the financial management and health of the foundation/charity. Financial Oversight:

Budgeting:

• Scrutinise the proposed annual budget, and advise and guide the Board accordingly
• Scrutinise management accounts, performance against budget, trading performance etc, and to advise the Board accordingly
• Scrutinise and regularly evaluate the charity’s cash flow position, and to inform the Board of any concerns
• Review longer term forecasts of capital resources and of income and expenditure

Reporting:

• Work with the Business Director to formally present the accounts to the Annual General Meeting drawing to members’ attention all relevant matters, and to respond to questions from the floor

Compliance:

• Ensure that the charity operates within the financial guidelines set out in current legislation, by the Charity Commission, in the charity’s constitution and by the Board Record Keeping

Fund Management:

• Ensure that funding received for specific purposes is separately accounted for and spent for the purposes for which it was given

Audit:

• Ensure that the charity has adequate financial and internal audit controls and that these are monitored and reviewed regularly
• Meet the external auditor as required

Policy Development:

• To ensure that all financial policies, procedures and the appointment of external financial advisors are reviewed on a regular basis

Record Keeping:

• Maintain accurate financial records, including documentation for all income expenses and donations

Person Specification - Essential

• Proven experience in finance, accounting or a related field (CPA or equivalent qualification)
• Be a Director of the company (limited by guarantee) Please check that you fulfil the conditions on the UK government website
• Be willing to provide data required to be added to the Charity Commission website, Companies House website and the Financial Conduct Authority Register – your name only will be visible to the public. 
• Have a Disclosure and Barring Service check for Caspari Foundation (DBS check are not currently portable unless you have joined the update service)
• Regularly attend Full Board meetings (currently every 3 months)
• Be confident about our purpose and work and be an ambassador for Caspari Foundation
• Excellent organisation and communication skills
• Proficiency in accounting software (e.g. Quickbooks) and MS Office (especially Excel)

The Southover Partnership
The Southover Partnership (“Southover” or the “School”) is an independent special needs day school for pupils with social, emotional and mental health difficulties, autistic spectrum disorder and other complex needs. It is situated on three sites in the London boroughs of Brent, Barnet and Enfield. All pupils have education, health and care plans (EHCP) and are placed by a wide range of local authorities. Typically, the pupils placed at the School have significantly disrupted educational histories. 
The work at Southover is underpinned by the principles of attachment theory. The School follows a small school model because we believe it delivers the best outcomes for our students. This means each school community gets to deeply know and understand its members and gives students the opportunity to be more directly involved in their own education. It allows the different school sites to serve as pupils’ primary attachment, and therefore build up a trusting relationship with others and eventually society. The aim is to deliver a truly personalised and holistic education experience for all our pupils.

Specific responsibilities

1.Provide oversight and support to the School Business Manager, together with the Chair and the Executive Headteacher.

2.Chair the Finance, Audit and Risk Committee.
3.Review and report on Southover’s financial performance to ensure the safeguarding of organisational assets and its short- and long-term viability.
4.Oversee the financial implications of strategic plans, annual budgets, risk management and financial management reports, explaining technical aspects in plain language.
5.Propose and implement an ongoing review of Southover’s financial and risk policies.
6.Ensure there is an effective external and internal audit function.
7.Act as sounding board and finance professional to the non-finance board members, while reminding each trustee of their own responsibilities in this area.

Terms of Office 

The Chair will serve a three-year term, eligible for re appointment at the end of one term of office for one additional term only i.e. a maximum of 6 years.

CHAIRPERSON

Remuneration: The role of Chair is not accompanied by any financial remuneration, although expenses for travel may be claimed (e.g. attending the LNBP Annual AGM which is currently held during the Crick Boat Show at which LNBP has a presence).

Location: Home based

Time commitment: Attending 4/5 Trustee Board meetings per year and regular liaison with the other trustees. Additionally, the Chair is expected to participate in meetings of the Executive Committee (planned to meet 5/6 times per year going forward).

Objective

The opportunity.

Initially, we’re looking for three new exceptional trustees to join our Board during this exciting period of growth and innovation. • Finance & Accountancy: We’re seeking an experienced finance professional to join our board and, in time, chair our Finance & Resources Committee when our current chair of the committee, Richard Paul comes to the end of his term later this year. You’ll bring senior-level financial expertise, strong analytical skills, and the ability to provide strategic financial oversight during a period of significant organisational growth. Experience of charity finance would be advantageous but is not essential.
• Clinical Professional with experience in addiction: We’re looking for a clinician, such as a psychologist or psychiatrist, with experience in addiction to join our board. This trustee will subsequently chair our Service Delivery & Governance Committee when our current committee chair, Raj Boyjoonauth completes his term at the end of 2024. You’ll bring deep understanding of clinical governance, quality assurance, and service development in addiction treatment settings.
• Business Development: Our third trustee will bring commercial acumen and business development expertise to support our continued growth. You’ll have experience in developing and implementing growth strategies, ideally in health, social care, or related sectors. We’re particularly interested in individuals who understand both commercial imperatives and social impact, and can help us think strategically about sustainable growth while maintaining service quality. This person could bring experience in the charity or commercial sectors.

Time Commitment

The Board meets quarterly, usually in person. Trustees join one sub-committee, which also meets quarterly, usually online. Including preparation time, representation at events, and strategic input, we estimate a commitment of the equivalent of a day a month. This includes:

• Four Board meetings per year
• Quarterly committee meetings
• Annual strategy and away day
• Occasional representation at events and meetings with key stakeholders, including at services.

We understand many trustees balance this role with other commitments. Board and committee meetings are scheduled well in advance to help with planning.

We are recruiting for RNLI Trustees 

People will always need our help. You could play an important part in making sure we can always be there to answer that call. 

As we launch into our third century of lifesaving, we are seeking people to join our trustee board who have experience as a Non-Executive Director or Trustee and experience within large, complex organisations, in any of the following areas:

• Providing commercial and financial leadership
• People management at a senior level
• Audit, risk management and/or assurance

This is an important role for the RNLI, our trustees are a body of volunteers who carry the full financial and legal responsibility for everything the RNLI does. You will be contributing advice, expertise and effective leadership as a Trustee. You will be helping us to adapt for the future, enabling us to continue achieving our purpose of saving lives at sea.

This is an unpaid voluntary opportunity within the RNLI. Travel and subsistence costs will be reimbursed in line with RNLI policy.

Chair of the Ministries Committee and Deputy Chair of the Ministries Committee (two roles) – The Methodist Church in Great Britain

Are you a member of the Methodist Church in Britain seeking to build on your established committee chairing skills, your expertise and gifts in a new way? Could you make a significant contribution to an important committee in the Methodist Church?

We are seeking a new Chair and Deputy Chair for the Ministries Committee to start 1 September 2025, initially for a term of three years, renewable for a further 3 years if appropriate.

The Ministries Committee reports to the Connexional Council, the trustee body of the Methodist Church in Great Britain. The Committee is charged with responsibility to keep in constant review the life of the Methodist Church as it relates to Ministries, ordained and lay, to reflect strategically and review ministries related work that will enable the ministry and mission of the Church to be more effective, and to review the formational and support needs of those who exercise lay and ordained ministry on behalf of the Church.  Working collaboratively with other committee members and with the Mission Committee and Resourcing Committee, you will be experienced in chairing committees and bring a range of circuit experiences and other experiences of the Methodist Church to the work of the Ministries Committee.
