We have an opportunity to join our Fundraising Team as Fundraising Officer, raising the funds that enable young people to benefit from our life-changing programmes.
The majority of the successful candidate’s time will be spent in growing an already established Trusts and Foundations income stream; you will be responsible for writing applications to and managing relationships with small and medium grant-makers (giving up to c.£10k). You will have the autonomy to manage your own portfolio of new and existing funders, with support from the Head of Fundraising, and will support the wider fundraising team with research needs.
This is an exciting time to join the Power2 fundraising team, as we aim to grow and diversify our income sources. The successful candidate will therefore have the opportunity to be involved in the growth and development of new areas of fundraising and to be involved in activities reflecting their own interests and career aspirations.
Direct experience is not essential for this role – more important is that you possess transferable skills and can demonstrate experience in distilling complex information from a range of sources and communicating it in a persuasive, engaging way to different audiences. The successful candidate will therefore have excellent communication skills, be highly numerate and a great team player and collaborator.
We operate hybrid working, and this role can be based at either our London or North-West (Ashton-under-Lyne) office, with at least one day working in the office per week. We offer flexibility as to when the role’s hours are worked, and exact working patterns can be discussed at interview.

ABOUT THE ROLE
Smart Works Bristol exists to empower all women who need heflp getting into work. We aim to support 1000 clients with our Interview and Preparation service per year. As such, we require vital funding from Grants, Trusts & Foundations to enable us to achieve our mission, and continued support to deliver our calendar of Corporate Events.
As our charity grows, we are seeking a Fundraising Manager to join our small and ambitious staff team. The successful post holder will be researching and building a strong pipeline of grant funders and five and six-figure gifts from Trusts & Foundations, including core funding and restricted funding.
This is a unique opportunity to work alongside our Board of Trustees to maximise local funding opportunities, expand our portfolio of grant funders, and contribute to a growth in income for the charity. The successful candidate will be responsible for researching and identifying prospective funders, writing and submitting high-quality applications and proposals, and delivering excellent grant management and stewardship updates. They will also work closely with the Trustees to deliver an exciting calendar of corporate and community fundraising fashion events, and lead our corporate sports challenge.
We are seeking a proactive self-starter, with experience in philanthropic fundraising, excellent written communication skills and demonstrable attention to detail. We would also love to hear if you have experience working with grant applications and/or funding proposals, and utilising a range of tools to identify new funding opportunities.

You will be based in our Bristol Centre. Some evening and weekend work is required to lead on philanthropic fundraising and support wider fundraising events such as Fashion Sales. Initially, this role will be primarily home-based until the Bristol centre is established.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Reporting to the Head of Smart Works Bristol, the successful candidate will lead on a range of activities, including:
- Building excellent relationships with corporate and community partners, generating awareness and income of c. £165k for the centre across grants, events and corporate fundraising.
- Delivering financial activities to target, maintaining an up-to-date database with relevant income tracking and pipeline data to facilitate regular KPI and financial reporting to the Board of Trustees.
- Lead our annual signature corporate challenge to target income c. £50k, known as Step Up for Smart Works – managing the project locally from planning to delivery, including identifying and onboarding participant teams and their stewardship.
- Securing one-year and multi-year grants from a range of Trusts and Foundations, including traditional grant funders, local charities, family foundations and corporate foundations to meet income targets c. 50k.
- Researching and identifying prospective grant funders who could support Smart Works Bristol.
- Writing high-quality grant applications, working collaboratively with the Chair of the Board and staff team to deliver creative and compelling proposals for both core and restricted funding.
- Maintaining strong relationships with current and prospective funders, including the preparation of impact reports and sharing regular updates on grant management.
- Maintain an accurate data record of pledged, banked and prospective income for the Bristol centre, working in collaboration with Smart Works Charity to maintain local management accounts.
- Representing Smart Works Bristol to a diverse range of stakeholders and audiences to generate income and raise brand awareness within the local community.
- Support the Trustees with stewardship of fashion and retail partners, including venue and catering supporters, as well as our corporate partners supporting the charity.
- Support the delivery of our signature fundraising events, including high-end supporter events and fashion sales, where the Trustees manage the project from concept to execution and ensure income targets are met.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES
Essential Criteria:
- Extensive experience generating income of at least five figures from philanthropic income.
- Demonstrable experience securing corporate partnerships of five figures.
- Experience working with grant applications and/or funding proposals, and utilising a range of tools to identify new funding opportunities.
- Excellent written communication skills and strong attention to detail.
- Ability to prepare high-quality funding proposals and reports, adapting the communication style for different audiences and stakeholders to maximise impact.
- Target driven with excellent organisation and time management capabilities, demonstrating an ability to prioritise and work to deadlines.
- Creative and proactive approach to problem-solving, with an entrepreneurial attitude towards fundraising strategy.
- Passionate and enthusiastic about the mission and vision of Smart Works, demonstrated through clear initial research and understanding in the written application.
Desirable Criteria:
- Proven track record in securing six figure philanthropic income.
- Experience in cultivating strong and positive relationships, both internally and externally, with multiple and senior stakeholders.
- Experience of organising fundraising events.
- Interpersonal, verbal communication and presentation skills, in order to build strong working relationships with external stakeholders.
- An understanding of the Trusts & Foundations and high-value fundraising landscape, such as the current challenges, opportunities and trends.

The Ryan Neuro Therapy Centre supports people with neurological conditions by delivering physiotherapy and other therapies to benefit their health and welfare in a caring, friendly, and supportive environment. We are a small self-funded charity in Coulsdon, reliant entirely on fundraising and donations to provide the income needed each year to run the Centre. The organisation took on charitable status in 1995 supporting people living with Multiple Sclerosis. In 2023, we expanded our provision to support other neurological conditions. The Charity has 18 members of staff (all part-time), 15 volunteers and over 100 members with neurological conditions.
The Fundraising Manager is a key member of our small dedicated team, the role generates more than a third of our income needs and is key to the success of the charity.

About Wicksteed Park
Wicksteed Park, in Kettering, Northamptonshire, is one of the UK's oldest leisure parks, founded in 1921 by Charles Wicksteed. Role Outline
The Head of Fundraising will be instrumental in the instigation, implementation and completion of the Trust’s long term funding strategy. This important role leads on the Trust’s approach to individual giving, legacies, campaigns and community fundraising. The role plays an important part in raising vital unrestricted income and will act as the connection point with our loyal supporters. • Research and make approaches, pitches, submissions and applications to charitable trusts and foundations (both in the UK and overseas territories within SPANA’s global fundraising programme, such as Australia), to meet agreed annual targets.

• Work with SPANA colleagues to identify and maintain a list of suitable projects (that would particularly appeal to potential trust funders) and provide appropriate narrative and financial feedback reports on specific projects and restricted funds (for funders and internal purposes).
• Organise events, visits, meetings and other appropriate activities as required, to encourage and maintain support from trusts
• Assist in the development of events for trusts and major donors and represent SPANA at both SPANA events and external meetings, to cultivate relationships with the aim of securing income.
• Contribute to the development and production of SPANA fundraising, marketing and communications materials, to support trusts fundraising activities.
• Programme support and administration
• Work to a set income and expenditure budget, setting targets in collaboration with line manager.
• Provide regular reports and information on progress, targets and income generated.

• Ensure all SPANA’s trust fundraising activities are legally compliant, in keeping with our values and adherent to due diligence and our Acceptance or Refusal of Donations Policy.

Trusts and Foundations Manager
The Trusts and Foundations Manager with be responsible for the ongoing management of the current successful high-value portfolio ranging from £2m commitments to £100k grants. In addition to ensuring the current portfolio is expertly stewarded with the aim of renewing and uplifting existing funders, the role will also be responsible for expanding the portfolio, focusing on both the national programme and the individual pathfinders projects in the longer term.
The Trusts and Foundations Manager with not have any direct line management reports in order to focus their time on fundraising but will work closely with The Manager will take a relationship-based approach to our funding partnership, working directly with grantors to create impactful propositions and proposals to support Thrive at Five’s strategic priorities. The successful applicant will develop and manage a detailed prospect pipeline managed through our database, to ensure we make the very best of opportunities, in addition to new partnerships being identified and scoped.
The role will involve collaboration and coordination across the organization, both to keep abreast of the latest information for grantors, but also to bring key stakeholders and experts into discussions and partnerships as and when necessary to further develop and strengthen relationships. colleagues, providing coaching, support and advice on the lower-level trust portfolio on a regular basis.

Key Responsibilities
Strategy and Planning
- Work with the Head of Fundraising to further develop the long-term fundraising strategy working to maximise multi-year partnerships from like-minded funders
- Manage the annual planning processes for Trusts and Foundations, prioritising meaningful engagement and stewardship opportunities for new and existing funders
- Work closely with the Director of Finance on the annual budget and monthly forecasts
Portfolio Management
- Manage the existing portfolio of c. 25 active multi-year grants ranging from £100k-£2m, providing excellent and timely reporting in addition to creative and impactful ongoing stewardship. The existing funders’ interests will be split across our national programme and regional pathfinders (currently Stoke-on-Trent and Redcar and Cleveland, with discussions underway in Middlesborough and Scotland).
- Regularly communicate with those in the portfolio on a 1:1 basis, working with senior stakeholders directly as and when necessary to maximise opportunities including Trustees, Advisory Board Members, Senior Leadership Team (‘SLT’) and the CEO
- Organise and attend programme visits to pathfinder locations as and when necessary to strengthen partnerships with grantors, long term in addition to regular face to face funder meetings
- Support the delivery of cultivation and stewardship events for prospects, funders and connectors, cross the country
Prospect Research and Pipeline Management
- Manage a portfolio of c.30 warm and cold prospects, to create bespoke cultivation opportunities, engage in fact-finding discussions, and submit detailed concept notes and proposals as relationships develop. The aim is for the existing portfolio of active funders to double over the next two years through a rigorous prospect engagement programme
- Focus on constant movement and momentum within the trusts and foundations pipeline, continuously researching new prospects, and network mapping contacts across the organisations to explore new avenues of support for both the national programme and the pathfinder projects
- Proactively engage with the grant making community with a shared interested in early years development by attending sector specific events and opportunities, and in addition to those focused on pathfinder areas such as Scottish grantmakers or those focused on the Northwest of England.
Processes and Systems
- Champion data excellence across fundraising by utilising the Raiser Edge database, ensuring it is the up-to-date centralised data management system for all prospects, funders, events and communications
- Provide regular reports to the Head of Fundraising and SLT on movement within the grants pipeline including chances of success
- Support the management of the lower-level grants portfolio, taking a coaching approach and sharing your expertise widely
- Work with the Head of Fundraising to ensure the team are confident in all fundraising processes and procedures including grant acceptance policy, due diligence policy, prospect research process, data protection policy and GDPR requirements
