Discovery, based in Somerset, is now becoming a strategic partner working with Cornwall Council to support people with a learning disability and autistic adults in Cornwall.

At first we will take responsibility for improving the way people are supported in a small number of existing residential care homes, with the prospect of supporting more people once we’ve demonstrated success.

The Operations Director is a member of Discovery’s senior team, with direct line management responsibilities for Locality Managers, many of whom will be Registered Managers with the Care Quality Commission.

Whilst the position is home based, we expect that the Operations Director will regularly visit the people we support in their home. You’ll guide your team, focusing on ways to improve quality and practice. In addition, you’ll be expected to work closely with the Business Development team to assess opportunities to support more people within the county, including those currently supported Out of Area. You’ll be able to access a wider support network by working closely with peers from Discovery and Dimensions in other parts of the country; There will be regular virtual and face to face opportunities to share knowledge and for personal and professional development.

What will I be doing?

As an Operations Director with Discovery, you will be a key leader in our organisation. About the role

At SSAFA Safeguarding is everybody’s business. This means that as awareness grows and with it the demand for additional support from those supporting our beneficiaries, we need to ensure the right level of support across the charity for those dealing with complex situations involving safeguarding concerns. We are therefore looking for an experienced social worker to work with our Head of Safeguarding and Social Work Services as the Single Point of Contact (SPOC) and help develop our response to Safeguarding concerns across the organisation.

In addition to this we would like the successful individual to provide social work support to our Stepping Stone’s home on a regular basis, supporting those women and children who have survived Domestic Abuse to move forward with their lives.

Your key responsibilities will include;

• Working with the Head of Safeguarding and Social Work Services to manage safeguarding issues raised within SSAFA or related to its work, and ensure the appropriate recording of concerns, decision making and referrals. 

• Providing expert advice to the Organisation, employees and volunteers ensuring best practice in embedded into all new and existing policy and guidance.

• Ensuring that the Safeguarding Policy is adhered to across the organisation.

• Undertaking audits across the organisation into safeguarding practice and making recommendations based on the outcomes.

• Providing social work support to the beneficiaries of our Stepping Stones refuge, including maintaining case records and regular reports to the Director of Social Care Operations.

You will become part of the Social Care Operations Directorate, reporting directly to the Head of Safeguarding and Social Work and working alongside other parts of SSAFA’s specialist services, all of who are dedicated to ensuring that the Armed Forces, veterans and their families can thrive.

About you

We are looking for an experienced social worker ready to take on a new and varied role within SSAFA. Ideally with experience of working within Domestic Abuse and/or Safeguarding and with knowledge of the legislation, policies, and best practices related to these areas.

You will also need excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills, as well as a positive, flexible, and creative approach to problem-solving.

Purpose of the role

Tech Angels (previously Tech to Community Connect) is a service which aims to reduce digital exclusion across Surrey. In recent years, and particularly now in a post-pandemic society, so much connection happens digitally; those without the knowledge or equipment to connect to the internet are at a very high risk of loneliness and isolation, which have a significant negative impact on physical and mental health.

To combat this, we provide devices on long term loan to people who are disabled or living with a health condition, family carers, of older age, or to those with another vulnerability. We also offer a ‘match’ with one of our team of volunteer Tech Angels, to help with digital literacy and confidence.  We also supply sim cards with data to those, who don’t have wi-fi, so that they can be connected. 

The purpose of the role will be to drive and coordinate referrals into and through the service, making sure that people facing digital exclusion get the support they need to get (and stay) connected.  Ultimately the outcomes we are focused on achieving are a reduction in health inequality and an increase in wellbeing.

Main responsibilities

1. Coordination of Tech to Community Connect activity in a defined part of Surrey

2. Communication with people using the service, carers, volunteers, organisations that may have referred to the service and other stakeholders

Essential:

As a member of the Process and Administration Team (PAT)  at Libraries Connected, you will play a crucial role in ensuring efficient and cohesive administrative support for the organisation. Your primary responsibilities will include supporting new initiatives such as a potential leadership development programme, the development of online learning modules, the creation of a Futures Lab and Data Observatory, and managing tender bids for new commercial contracts. Libraries Connected has established a Process and Administration Team (PAT) whose role is to ensure that the Libraries Connected staff receive efficient and cohesive administrative support, and that resilience is built into the administrative processes in terms of knowledge sharing, process documentation and consistency. As a member of the Process and Administration team, this role will also have broader responsibilities across the organisation including supporting finance processing, development and maintenance of organisational systems, and the opportunities to work across a range of activities alongside the primary role. 

Main purpose:

Delivering the Philanthropy plan​

• Manage the philanthropy programme at Bookmark, working with the Head of Fundraising to grow the major donor and Trusts & Foundations portfolio within the wider strategy​
• Lead a team of three to deliver on the fundraising strategy, providing direction, support and guidance. Directly line manage the Philanthropy Manager and support their professional development ​
• Work with trustees, staff, and our wonderfully supportive Partnerships Board to build a robust pipeline of supporters and secure introductions ​
• Own and build a portfolio of donors through the full donor cycle who give £50,000 or more, ensuring a first-class cultivation and stewardship journey​
• Lead on the philanthropy events strategy and programme, providing support to the Philanthropy Manager and wider team in delivering income generating, cultivation and stewardship events ​
• Lead the philanthropy team to compelling, relevant and tailored funding proposals, reports and collateral to inspire and inform donors, reflecting Bookmark’s strong brand​

Person specification

Essential​

• A successful track record in high value fundraising and acquisition, including a proven track record of securing five-and-six-figure gifts, to meet or exceed targets​
• Experience line managing individuals, nurturing their development and managing their performance to achieve results​
• Excellent understanding of complex relationship-based fundraising from high-net worth individuals and/or grant making organisations, and experience developing relationships with donors through all stages of the donor cycle​
• Experience working with a fundraising board or high value committee​

Programme Promotion:

Information and Taster Sessions: 

• Coordinate and deliver information and taster sessions both internally and externally to inform and engage potential participants.
