We champion access to justice through information and advice, legal practice and representation, policy and strategic litigation. Our Legal Practice Unit provides advice and representation primarily under legal aid contract. Our Policy and Practice Change team promotes practice change through training and capacity building to professionals and secures systems change through research, policy and advocacy.
About the role
This senior role will provide financial and operational leadership and management for CCLC, particularly focussed on the Legal Practice Unit and the Policy and Practice Change team. Through systematic and efficient management, the post holder will play a pivotal role in CCLC’s financial and operational sustainability.
The role will oversee the smooth running of the London and Colchester offices through oversight and line management of finance, operations and administrative staff. The post holder will support the Managing Director of Legal Practice and Children's Rights and department heads in the successful running of our services. Where appropriate they will deputise for the Managing Director on financial, operational and compliance matters.
Managing a small finance team, the role will hold primary responsibility for specialist financial functions within CCLC, particularly legal aid billing. The role will act as a key point of contact for a range of internal and external stakeholders including Coram’s central finance team who focus on grant fund management and overall accounting for CCLC.
The role would suit a highly organised and efficient business support professional with experience of financial management within the legal or charity sector. In particular, candidates with experience of legal billing and more specifically, civil legal aid billing, are welcomed. However, we recognise that this is a highly specialised and niche field. As such, candidates with broad operational and financial management experience but a strong aptitude for processing large amounts of data, developing and managing spreadsheets and improving organisational systems will be considered.
This is a largely office-based role in order to fully provide support to the finance and operations team. However, some remote / hybrid working may be possible depending the experience of the candidate after the initial settling in period (to be negotiated with the successful candidate).The finance team are split between the London and Colchester offices and the post holder should expect some travel.
Whilst this is a full-time position, we will consider requests for part-time working and we will endeavour to offer some flexibility with days and hours to be agreed.

About the Role
We are now recruiting for an experienced Director of Operations to play a crucial role in guiding our driven and committed team as we shift our culture and infrastructure, upholding our vision, mission, principles, and values.
The post holder will work with colleagues to develop, implement and review Hibiscus’s strategy and plans, particularly as they impact our operating and finance models. They will be responsible for developing and monitoring the annual business plan, reporting progress and providing reliable structural, financial and people management. They will support the CEO in building and instilling a sense of unity and purpose into the work of the organisation, and represent the operational work to the Board. They will be responsible for the efficient running of operations and central functions, conducting risk assessments, monitoring performance and reviewing procedures, with a particular focus on overseeing the effective financial management of the organisation.
The successful candidate will be responsible for financial planning and producing financial budgets for the organisation, alongside monitoring projects from start to finish, preparing costings for funding applications, agreeing contracts and grant terms, monitoring deliverables and co-ordinating timely reporting. They will oversee the production of quarterly management accounts and yearly finance audits, and communicate the financial landscape of the organisation to the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and Board. The Director of Operations will play a key role in risk and compliance, with a focus on data, safeguarding, policies and procedures, and legal and statutory requirements. They will work to increase the effectiveness of our operations, whilst supporting and contributing to the fundraising efforts of the organisation. A key element of the role will be to work to integrate our workplace culture into HR processes and procedures, modelling a fair and open management approach that ensures trusted relationships are embedded throughout the organisation.

What you will be doing
- Provide guidance and training to support partnerships between people with hearing loss and their hearing dog
- Assess people’s needs and provide advice, guidance, and signposting so they can get the help they need with their hearing loss
- Bring people together in local communities and by connecting our beneficiaries with our Peer Support Volunteers
- Manage a caseload of beneficiary relationships learning about their needs and providing advice, support, and services personally with the help of others
- Offer community days and dog walks in local communities bringing people together
- Provide tailored support to hearing dog partners through remote contact, home and workplace visits, and accompanying them to the vets and other places
- Create and implement partnership support plans, dog behaviour modification plans, dog welfare plans, and risk management

The Role:
Reporting to the CEO, the role will be responsible for managing all commercial and business functions for the Charity, (excluding Clink Events, our social enterprise which has its own business development function).
This is a newly appointed position within the management team and is an exciting opportunity for a strong commercial manager who has previous experience managing office infrastructure, bids, contracts, business relationships and funding. It is essential to have strong finance and IT skill, as the role will work closely with Finance and be responsible for running all inhouse IT systems.
The role will be supported with additional resource from our Bids, Grants, Contracts & Tenders Manager, our Data & Analysis Officer and an external Consultant who advises on business development.

Key Responsibilities Include:
Commercial & Business Development:
· Own our commercial relationships with the Ministry of Justice and other major customers.
· Bring in new funders and new contract business from the MOJ, HMPPS, Local Authority Adult Education Providers, and Private Sector companies working in our field.
· Collaborate with our bid and business development team and with our marketing team on fundraising.
· Take the lead on major new grant funding applications.
· Review and develop operational processes to improve performance and maximise growth working closely with the Head of Finance, Director of Operations and MD Clink Events.
· Work together with relevant internal departments to develop accurate and consistent bids.
· Establishing targets for contract income, fundraising and grants, and ensuring the Charity meets them.
Business Management:
· Ensure the smooth running of our Head Office site at Bessemer Park, Herne Hill, London.
· Manage our leases and site infrastructure in Bessemer Park including managing our outsourced IT provider.
· Management of our in-house IT systems contracts relationships (Case Management, Sage, Paperless invoicing).
· Oversee all business accounts and contracts.
· Implement systems and processes to ensure all contracts are managed and renewed including competitive re- tendering as appropriate.
· Managing risk assessments for new initiatives and overseeing the risk register for the Charity.
Experience & Background Required:
We welcome applicants with relevant commercial and contract management experience from the public, private or not for profit sectors. Successful applicants are likely to have had a track record in negotiating public sector contracts and building relationships with commissioners and procurement professionals. Experience in education, training, apprenticeships or justice services would be of particular interest.
It is essential that the role holder is Financially and IT literate, someone who can lead the commercial function, manage our outsourced IT infrastructure providers and provide business leadership to the management of all internal supply contracts.
You will work closely with the Finance team and support the remote working Head of Finance to provide oversight and support to our finance team members based at Head Office.

Newcastle Good Neighbours Project
We are working in partnership with Newcastle City Council, and other partners, to launch a new “Good Neighbours” project. We would all like to live in a place that has a sense of community, where people look out for their neighbours. This project aims to foster a feeling of positive wellbeing and independence for those who may be socially isolated, or who don’t have many people around them, giving that “little bit of help”.
The project will help people in the community feel safe, supported, and more able to live an independent life, whilst preventing, reducing and delaying the need for formal support through Adult Social Care. It will also provide people the opportunity to volunteer a little time, in a flexible way, to make a difference in their own community. We know volunteering can lead to enhanced skills, and positive wellbeing. Volunteers will provide practical or social support, completing “one-off’ or short-term tasks, supporting a neighbour. This may include things like grocery shopping, collecting prescriptions, driving someone to a GP appointment, helping with odd jobs around the house, light gardening, or checking in with someone for a cuppa and chat.
The role of Engagement Manager
You will lead the day-to-day delivery of the Good Neighbours project. Initially running as a 2-year pilot, we aim to attract and recruit as many volunteers as possible, whilst ensuring that people who could benefit from the service know about it, and can receive support quickly and easily.
The right person for this position would be someone with a good knowledge and understanding of “best practice” in Volunteer Management. It is essential that the postholder can work flexibly, is an excellent communicator, and can build strong working relationships with a range of people. In this role, you will:
• Work alongside other Volunteering Matters colleagues/projects in Newcastle, in a joined-up way, ensuring we attract volunteers to become a “Good Neighbour”
