Newly created role for a Chief Operating Officer to join a small but mighty health charity who support people with the health condition ‘Ataxia’.

‘Ataxia’ is an umbrella term for a group of neurological disorders that affect balance, coordination and speech.  A serious but rare condition thought to affect 12,000 adults and around 500 children in the UK.  We provide advocacy and support those affected.  We are actively involved as the patient voice for the first USA approved drug for the condition.

Managing a small team, the Chief Operating Officer is a new role that has been created to strengthen the Finance department and play a pivotal role in ensuring Finance, Governance, HR, Legal, IT are responsive and efficient.

Summary of key responsibilities will include;

• Developing a trusted and effective relationship with the CEO to lead the organisation collaboratively
• Oversee all aspects of finance including delivering the financial strategy, overseeing financial planning, control and reporting
• Monitor and assess the financial impact of any strategic initiatives or material capital projects
• Develop, direct and oversee all business activities of the charity across Operations and IT with a focus on designing systems and processes to enable efficiency and growth
• Managing IT systems and security in partnership with our outsourced IT provider
• Develop and oversee an effective HR function to ensure there are appropriate HR processes and procedures in place in collaboration with our outsourced HR partner

In order to be successful in the role, we are looking for a formally qualified senior finance leader who will have gained their relevant financial management experience within a charity/not-for-profit organisation.

You will have an in-depth understanding of the complexities of restricted/unrestricted funds from a variety of revenue streams.  With excellent communication skills you will confidently build relationships with the CEO and budget holders, becoming the trusted advisor to the Board of Trustees and senior leadership team.

Experience gained in a multi-faceted leadership role is preferred but consideration will be given to candidates wishing to step up into a role that is wider than finance alone.

Responsibilities

- Manage a caseload of specific, residuary, and reversionary legacies across the UK.
- Ensure Marie Curie receives its full entitlement in accordance with legal requirements, Wills, and settlements.

- Liaise with other charities and act as lead charity when needed.
- Record and update legacy information in the FirstClass 4 database.

About the position

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious individual to increase the effectiveness and impact of a non-profit working to improve the lives of millions of the most vulnerable people around the world. 

This position is based in London but supports the Freedom Fund globally (approximately 85 staff across ten countries). Reporting to the Business Operations Manager, the IT Officer will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Freedom Fund's IT environment - providing technical support on existing and new infrastructure and software; troubleshooting issues and providing internal IT support for system users. The post holder will also advise on updates to the Freedom Fund’s IT and cyber security policies and processes and lead on the project to consolidate IT programs under Microsoft 365. 

The successful candidate will act as a point of contact between the organisation and external service providers (e.g. Microsoft, Zoom, etc) for day-to-day operational activities.

Responsibilities 

Internal IT support

• Serve as the in-house IT support for the global organisation (approximately 85 staff members over 10 countries), providing ongoing IT support and troubleshooting for all staff.

• Set up and onboard new starters, training new staff on all core organisational IT systems and policies.

• Support the administration of key IT systems such as Business Central (our accounting software) and Salesforce (our customer relationship management and grant management system).

• Work with all departments to ensure they are sufficiently and appropriately equipped with IT resources and that there is consistent maintenance and management.

• Manage all physical IT assets and infrastructure and ensure the Asset Register is kept updated. 

• Support the Business Operations Manager in delivering new technologies and services and in identifying working processes or policy improvements.

IT Infrastructure and Cyber Security 

• Administer an ongoing IT project - moving away from a range of programs including Gmail, Dropbox, Zoom and Slack towards a consolidation of programs under Microsoft 365, adopting M365 Outlook, SharePoint, Teams and Engage.

• Design and run training for Freedom Fund staff on how to use all Microsoft 365 programs, secure communications and cyber security

• Liaise with external IT service providers

• Support the Business Operations Manager in ensuring that the organisation is adequately protected from cyber security threats, including maintaining anti-virus software 

• Support the Business Operations Manager in ensuring the organisation has the correct data security measures and storage mechanism in place to protect internal and external personal data, in accordance with local legislation – including data protection legislation. 

• Assist the organisation in the safe storage and monitoring of data, including required retention and eventual disposal of personal data

• Provide plain language advice to management on IT risks and mitigation strategies

Policy and compliance 

• Assist the Business Operations Manager in periodic IT audits

• Ensure IT systems, policies and procedures are both legally compliant and adhered to by staff 

• Ensure IT assets and data are appropriately protected in any agreements with third parties

• Assist the organisation in the implementation of its data protection policy, abiding by the UK Data Protection Law

Qualifications and experience

Essential

K+ is King’s flagship widening participation programme for sixth form and college students. The post-holder will be responsible for developing and delivering a comprehensive range of events for Year 12 participants as part of non-residential Spring and Summer Schools. This will involve working collaboratively with schools and teachers within Greater London and King’s target regions, King’s faculties and with corporate and charity partners.

The post holder will work closely with the wider Post-16 Programmes team, student ambassadors and key partner staff. This role is responsible to the Social Mobility and Widening Participation Manager.

This is a delivery-focused role which requires a substantial amount of time on campus delivering activities for young people. Regular evening and weekend work is required for this role, as well as delivering Easter and Summer schools during school breaks.

Our Careers Development Managers (CDMs) are the main point of contact for young people on our social mobility programmes. The main focus of the role is the recruitment, development and support of young people into meaningful careers. 

CDMs create recruitment networks in their areas and lead bootcamps to improve their employability (e.g. interview techniques) and to enhance their personal and leadership abilities (e.g. critical thinking). Once young people are hired, CDMs use their established relationship to provide pastoral care and in-work support.

The successful candidate will have a proven commitment to improving the lives of young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, and they have an excellent understanding of social mobility, diversity and inclusion issues, and how these factors impact young people. 

LTSB does not have its own offices, so you will work remotely, but this role has significant in-person delivery expectations at partner organisations and corporate supporters, as well as occasion travel to our city hubs Birmingham, Liverpool, London, and Manchester. Position will require DBS Disclosure at enhanced level.

Summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Pioneering Project, as we develop pathways to faith on the Roundshaw Estate.

With significant grant investment from the Church of England, we are now setting up a Pioneering Project to develop these pathways, with new innovative spaces being added along the way. We will then train and support other Estate partner churches across the Southwark Diocese to try out our approach, contextualising our models of mission to their communities if appropriate. This is a really exciting project that will make a huge positive difference to individuals and communities. As such, we are looking for an experienced Operations Director to manage this project and oversee the team that will be recruited.

This role is vital to ensure we deliver on the agreed outcomes of the project over 5 years, which will involve:

• project oversight
• team management and recruitment, so new team members can thrive in their roles
• direction of our operational processes, including developing our finance, IT and communications (including a new website) to support the project.

We would love someone in this role to have a passion for Jesus, a drive to make our processes and systems as fruitful as possible, with the ability to nurture a joyful and motivated team. The team to be recruited includes a Children and Families Pioneer, a Media pioneer, and in 18 months will grow to include a Youth Pioneer, Music & Worship Pioneer and Pioneer Curate. The team will be part of the existing Springfield staff team overseen by their Pioneer Vicar.

There is a genuine occupational requirement that the post-holder be a practising Christian.

You will have significant experience of managing and delivering successful projects and enjoy juggling multiple elements with proactive problem-solving skills. You will have a good understanding of how to manage budgets.
