What will I do?

Roles vary depending on the event. You may be involved with: 

• Collecting donations with our collection buckets
• Manning a charity stand at an event
• Cheering on our challenge event participants at a race
• Marshalling a race route
• Welcoming guests at events
• Selling raffle tickets
• Offering general information about the charity and our services to the public
• Speaking at events, collection cheques
• Being a friendly face to represent the charity!

Time commitment

No minimum commitment is required but we would be grateful if you could attend at least three events a year. You will be emailed when opportunities come up to then discuss availability.

Location

The majority of events take place in the Borough of Bromley but we also have some events in south London and Kent.

Our challenge
The Community Fundraising Team is an integral part of The Charity Fundraising Portfolio, with an income target of £3.6 million in 2024/25 and the team consists of Community Fundraisers based across the UK. Our role is to provide fundraising advice and support to our DIY individual fundraisers, Supporter Groups, Community Organisations and Regional Corporates.

How can you help?
We are recruiting a team of Community Fundraising Volunteers to help us engage with our amazing DIY fundraisers through a variety of Social Media channels, including our Regional Facebook Pages. We aim to inspire, motivate and advise our DIY fundraisers via social media to maximise fundraising opportunities across the UK. To do so, we want to be able to engage with our community in an exciting, informative and consistent way. As part of a team of Community Fundraising Social 
Media Volunteers, you’d help us by:
• Supporting us to develop and manage the Community Fundraising Team Social Media Plan for 2025/26.
• Supporting us to create inspiring and motivating engagement opportunities with our DIY & Supporter Group community, utilising all our Social Media Channels.
• Updating our CRM with details of the Fundraiser, their DIY event & any action taken in response to their contact with us.

What impact will you have?
You’ll play a vital role in the Community Fundraising Team, helping us provide the best possible experience to our fundraisers.

We’re looking for...
Someone who is passionate about The Charity and our vision. You’ll also need to be: 
• Confident in communicating at all levels, with strong copywriting & social media experience
• Confident with the use of Hootsuite (or similar Social Media software), CRM & MS Outlook.
• Able to identify new opportunities to raise awareness and funds.

Time commitment

Practical considerations
You will receive a full induction to The Brain Tumour Charity and specific training for the role, as well as ongoing direction from one of our Senior Community Fundraisers, who will be your key contact. We carry out reference checks for all individuals who will be volunteering with us on a regular basis. Volunteers will be required to complete some 
internal data protection and disclosure documentation before commencing the role. Volunteers must be over 18.

We are looking for a dynamic and innovative fundraising specialist individual with drive and passion that aligns with the purpose of The Iolanthe Midwifery Trust to join our Board of Trustees. As a proven fundraising specialist, you will work in collaboration with the Board of Trustees, The Executive Director and the Philanthropy Officer as we roll out our fundraising strategy.The Fundraising Trustee will sit on the Board as well as The Finance and Fundraising sub committees.

Iolanthe has an endowment fund which provides some of the income needed each year to fund awards. As part of our 3 year strategy we will  diversity our income streams and focus on the following areas

We have recently appointed a Philanthropy Officer who is working to roll out our fundraising strategy and have a legacy consultant working with us to develop this area further.

Key responsibilities for fundraising lead trustee

• Oversight of Fundraising Strategy

Meetings: 

The Board meets three times a year in March, June and October.  All but 1 meeting (October combined AGM/Board meeting/Award event) are  held remotely.  Meetings generally last no longer than 2 hours and with the exception of the October meetings are held on a weekday evening.

The Finance sub committee meets remotely 3 times a year approximately 10 days ahead of the Board meetings.

The Fundraising sub committee will meet remotely and feed through to the main Board meetings.

Fundraising trustee - this is what we need from you

Proven experience of executing successful fundraising campaigns, who can provide support with the following key areas:

• Strategy development: Working with the Board of Trustees, Executive Director and Philanthropy Officer to help shape an effective fundraising strategy, fostering long-term sustainability and growth in line with our values

• Strategy execution: Support as necessary the process of fund identification

This is a unique opportunity for those eager to be part of a project evolving from its early stages to the launching of new initiatives. The volunteer will have ample opportunity to learn about charity structure, develop skills within the third sector and grow with the charity.

We are looking for a passionate and articulate person to fill this role. We welcome applicants who may not have prior experience in the third sector but are enthusiastic and eager to learn. If you lack experience, be prepared to engage in significant training and development to succeed in this position. Please note that we can only accept applications from volunteers who are 18 years or older.

What this position entails

This role combines fundraising development and research efforts to secure essential funding for the charity, along with various administrative duties to assist the Operational Director in ensuring smooth operations.

Candidates should have a genuine interest in our mission and values, possess strong Internet research skills, and demonstrate a good command of spoken and written English. While we recognise the benefits of using AI for certain tasks, we cannot accept applications from volunteers who solely depend on AI for research and writing.

Preference will be given to volunteers who are experienced with social media platforms and can aid the Operational Director in creating and sharing content across our social media channels. Familiarity with Canva is a plus, although training will be provided.

You will work closely with our Operational Director, who will be your mentor, while taking the vital role of supporting our administrative and fundraising efforts, providing a great opportunity to make a lasting impact on our work.

As a volunteer-led charity, it’s essential for us to find someone who understands the importance of being part of our team and engaging in the growth of the charity. Therefore, we will prioritise applications from volunteers who are committed to a long-term partnership and want to be an integral member of our team.
 

What do you need to become our Fundraising & Admin Assistant?

Essential:

· Strong skills in Internet research.

· Strong computer skills and able to easily learn how to use new software and systems.  

· Ability to undergo initial training required for the position.

· Be very organised, able to follow procedures and pay attention to details and deadlines.

· Experience with Social Media channels and ability to create content.

· Good command of spoken and written English is essential.

· Ability to work as part of a team and receive guidance.

Desirable

· Experience with CRMs (we use Salesforce) and Canva for design is an advantage. But training will be provided if necessary.

· Fundraising knowledge.

· Past experience in administrative or PA roles.

· Knowledge of how to work with budgets is an advantage.

Location: Fully Remote. But we welcome those who wish to come and visit the farm at least once to understand more about us.
 

Commitment:

The estimate of time needed is 4 to 5 hours a week, and we welcome those volunteers that can offer more, although it is not a requirement for the role. We can be flexible and work with you to find hours that fit ours and your schedule - all help is much appreciated!

As a volunteer-led charity, we prioritise volunteers who want to become part of our team of volunteers rather than those looking for a temporary assignment, as this role will involve a substantial amount of training and development. Therefore, we won’t accept applications from volunteers who cannot commit to at least 5-6 months with us.

As a charity we are able to help thousands of cats each year thanks to the generous donations we receive from members of the public. Our fundraising events organisers have the exciting and varied role of helping plan and deliver local fundraising events to raise the vital funds needed to help our feline friends. Our fundraising events organisers use their passion for cats and people to plan cake sales, barn dances, quiz nights and everything in between.

What can you expect to be doing?

• Planning fundraising events and activities like cake sales, quiz nights and barn dances in Mid-Kent
• Providing the treasurer with information on funds raised from fundraising events
• Encouraging and promoting a professional image of Cats Protection 
• Following policies and guidelines and ensuring licences and permits are obtained for events

A bit more information about this role and the team

• This is a flexible role. The amount of time you offer can work to your availability and convenience.
• There may be opportunities for your activities to be fully remote and/or admin based if you'd prefer.
• You will need your own transport if you wish to attend events, ideally a car or van since items, stock and equipment will usually be needed.
• We ask that you complete training to support you in your role. This can be completed online if you have access to the internet and the necessary device (computer/laptop/tablet etc). Support can be offered or paper versions of much of the training if needed.
