Generalist Advice Worker/Advice Session Supervisor or Trainee position

Salary scale: SO1 - £37,389 to £39,258 per annum

This post is advertised as an exciting opportunity for an experienced Advice Session Supervisor to consolidate their skills and experience or as a development opportunity for an advisor to train to become an Advice Session Supervisor within six months of starting in post. The post holder will be required to work across all of our offices and outreaches in Southwark according to operational needs.

The role includes:

• Providing advice to the public and undertaking casework on social welfare law issues

To be successful you will need:

• Recent experience of giving advice to the public. This should include having undertaken advice casework.

Duties & responsibilities
People

• To work alongside and train Companions to increase their skill base and confidence
• To organise the deployment of tasks to individuals and team members
• To train, supervise, motivate, and inspire volunteers and companions.
• To help devise and deliver induction on standards of work to new team members so that retail activities are delivered to the agreed brand, including customer service, merchandising, pricing, stock control, and culture
• To ensure that all activities under supervision are engaging, enabling, empowering and holding to account the team members

Warehouse Operation

• To ensure effective and efficient day-to-day operations by maximising quality donations and minimising waste
• To ensure day-to-day smooth and productive processes are being implemented to excellent standards for quality, culture, and legislative compliance
• To be proactive in the generation of donated stock, managing stock collection efficiently and effectively to the agreed standards and timescales under Emmaus guidelines
• To ensure premises, Health & Safety, security, and maintenance checks and actions are complete within the identified time, and to identify new checks or actions to schedule as to comply with Health and Safety requirements
• To ensure that cover for the safe operation of the Undercroft is always sufficient
• To cover van driving shifts as needed.

Stock Management

• To work closely with all Retail Managers to ensure each retail enterprise is receiving adequate stock to generate their required weekly sales targets
• To be responsible for ensuring that only sellable donations and those that conform to all relevant UK government and trading standards legislation are accepted for resale in the shop
• To disseminate any changes from Trading Standards as and when to relevant parties to ensure compliance
• To ensure all donated items are sorted and priced and merchandised to receive the optimum for the charity and the correct procedures are applied throughout the sorting process to allow for coding and pricing to be applied to items

Safety, Health, and Environment

• To oversee all Health & Safety requirements within the warehouse, taking corrective action as and when required, and informing/liaising with managers and team as necessary
• To assist in compiling risk assessments with team members
• Ensure safe working systems are adhered to in conjunction with the Emmaus policies and procedures, and are compliant with all relevant legal requirements
• To ensure that Health & Safety is adhered to in terms of equipment use and that manual handling guidelines are followed
• Ensure work areas follow correct processing procedures, ensuring that the work area is always kept clean and tidy
• Assist in delivering Health & Safety training to new Companions and volunteers
• Recycling/Re-use and Waste Management
• To recommend creative ways to upcycle, reuse and repurpose stock to maximise profit and reduce wastage
• To supervise the disposal of unsaleable items to minimise waste as appropriate in line with Sussex Emmaus’s Environmental Policy and procurement Policy.

Project Information 
 

They provide refuge and community based (outreach) support to adults and children who are experiencing domestic abuse. Their services include: 

• Refuge (including both communal refuge and dispersed (Individual safe accommodation) which is offered to both women and men (dispersed only) with or without children who are fleeing domestic abuse. 

• Community based outreach support working with women and men living in the local community who are living with the impact of domestic abuse. 

• Specialist support for children who are of have experienced domestic abuse (both refuge and community based support are available). 
  

The Role 

No two days will be the same, so if you like variety this may be the ideal role for you! 

As a Children’s worker, you will provide structured support to children, young people and their families who have experienced domestic abuse. You will be confident liaising with stakeholders eg. schools, social care. You will also be responsible for completing a healthy relationship programme of work, Safety Planning, and Signposting children and families to appropriate support. 

You will be able to demonstrate working knowledge of safeguarding procedures for adults, children and responsibilities, in relation to information sharing including multi-agency working. In addition, you will be expected to effectively communicate sensitive and complex issues with a range of people and have the ability to manage your own case-load. 

Requirements 

You will recognise the impact domestic abuse can have on children, young people and their families, also have an understanding of risk assessing. In addition, the ideal candidates will: 

• Be friendly, approachable, and flexible. 

• Have great communication skills 

• Relevant numeracy and literacy qualification and knowledge of basic IT skills (e.g. Microsoft Office packages) 

• Hard-working and a team player 

• Experience in Domestic Abuse preferred, but not essential. 

• Due to the nature of the role it is essential that you hold a full valid driving license with unrestricted access to a vehicle and business insurance.

Working as an integral part of the ED Navigator team, our successful candidate will identify and assess young victims of violence and provide a comprehensive and holistic assessment, advice, referral and support service, exploring innovative and effective ways of supporting them which will reduce their risk of re-victimisation.

You will produce support and risk management plans based on assessments, promoting inter-agency collaboration in the assessment and planning process, and deliver a holistic support service, working solo or with colleagues as the situation dictates, which will include providing practical help such as social and housing support, accompanying to appointments, ETE options and appearing in court. We will also count on you to develop and maintain relationships with partner agencies and to close cases efficiently and positively, identifying a referral route for the client that will identify agencies that can be used for ongoing support.

What we are looking for
• Personal experience of the criminal justice system, lived experience of the issues facing this client group and/or experience of working with ‘high risk’, vulnerable children, young people and/or families
• Experience in working as part of a multi-agency team
• Experience of using support plans, to enable people to successfully access support services
• Substantial experience of engaging successfully with ‘challenging’ young people
• To have a relevant qualification to a good standard or be working towards one
• A knowledge of relevant services for young people and their families in the service provision area
• First-class interpersonal, relationship-building and communication skills, both verbal and written.

About the role

The Refugee Council’s services strategy is aimed at delivering high impact, sustainable services that are centred on the needs of people seeking asylum and refugees in the UK, and improving the system of support that they rely on for their safety and future lives in local communities. We seek to significantly improve early access to information, advice and support for people seeking asylum and refugees in crisis and those seeking to integrate into the UK.

In December 2023, with consultancy support, we designed an exciting youth service strategy with a delivery model centred around children’s needs and with the vision for change on how separated children and young people are treated in their asylum journey by creating holistic casework, high quality joined up relationships across the organisation, collaboration with local partners and supporters through learning and sharing best practice to transform their experience and bring systemic change.

The Age Dispute work sits within the Youth Casework team, and we seek to deepen the impact by supporting more children and young people now dispersed across England and who are wrongly age assessed of assumed as over 18 by the Home Office and/or by the local authorities. The age disputes casework adviser will bring expertise to provide specialist casework to challenge incorrect age assessments, use experience to deal and prioritise high risk cases, work with various stakeholders including legal representatives, statutory agencies, and collaborate with others in sector to develop, learn and share best practice resources in casework provision. The postholder will maintain an understanding of the changing practice in relation to age assessments in particular and the wider policy landscape, work with colleagues in the Youth Services and in consultation with the Youth Services Manager, liaise with other relevant Refugee Council teams, including advocacy, practice development, youth involvement, In-Form to use casework evidence to address inequities in policy and practice.

Based within the Youth Services of the Refugee Council, the Age Disputes Casework Adviser will be responsible for:

• Working with children and young people to understand their experiences and needs.
• Working closely with other Age Disputes Casework Advisers and the Youth Services Manager to identify and review high risk and complex cases that need prioritising and create effective internal case triage and allocation systems.
• Liaising with a wide range of stakeholders to ensure that the needs of young people with disputed age are recognised and met.
• Identifying age assessment policy and practice issues impacting on the lives of separated children for possible action via strategic litigation with legal representatives and advocacy colleagues.
• Maintaining expert casework knowledge and understanding of the environment and barriers that separated children seeking asylum face in with regards to the assessment of their age, and issues related to access to high quality information, advice and legal representation on immigration, asylum and welfare, and always learning and sharing the knowledge with others.

About the role

This role is at the heart of the Individual Giving team, delivering dynamic direct marketing and digital fundraising campaigns to recruit the next generation of Christian Aid supporters. You'll be involved in organisation-wide campaigns like Christian Aid Week and emergency appeals, our most powerful moments of the year for bringing in new leads and supporters. TEP exists to support schools and trusts to easily, robustly and systematically understand and improve school engagement. As a platform, TEP captures and reports on engagement across various dimensions and stakeholder groups: pupils and students, parents and carers, employees and community stakeholders. TEP helps schools to understand and act on this data. The platform's ability to track changes over time enables schools to measure the impact of their interventions, ensuring that their engagement strategies are effective and adjusted as needed. This action-oriented approach ensures that school engagement is not simply a metric or backward-looking accountability tool, it is core to school improvement.

Alongside providing detailed school and Multi-Academy Trust level insights, we are building the national evidence base around school engagement as a lead indicator. Our research unit provides national insights and research publications to support school level insight and build better sector understanding of school employee engagement. We engage with the TEP school community to provide research insights, case studies and best practice examples to support their practice.

The role

In an exciting note role within TEP, we are recruiting our first Marketing Manager. The successful candidate will have an excellent track record of designing and managing marketing and communications campaigns with impact.

Working closely with TEP Directors and ImpactEd Group Directors you will develop, implement and manage the communications and marketing activity for TEP as we build awareness and uptake of The Engagement Platform across the country and internationally. 

You will plan campaigns, shape messaging and lead on execution of comms and digital marketing activity. With a wealth of data and insight to draw upon, we are excited to invest in our marketing function to take the benefits of TEP to the market.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about education and our mission.
