We are looking for support workers to join our Learning Disabilities team. Support workers are part of a flexible team working with adults who have learning disabilities, who use the Bede Centre in Bermondsey SE16.
We work in a person-centred way to enable people with learning disabilities to become as independent as possible, to make their own choices and to be fully part of the community. We do this by supporting them to develop and maintain skills, try new opportunities, make and maintain friendships and spend their time in ways valued by them and the community. We work in partnership with other local charities, to provide as many social, volunteering and work opportunities as we can to the people that come to Bede.
Our core service runs Monday-Friday, 9:30am-3:30pm, and we also support other projects and social clubs in the late afternoons. We currently have the following shifts available, from 9:30am to 3:30pm on each day:
- Tuesdays x 2
- Wednesdays
- Thursdays
- Fridays
At the moment men are underrepresented in our team, and we would therefore particularly welcome male applicants.

What you'll do:
Building supportive, trusting relationships with customers and creating a positive atmosphere.
Working proactively with other members of the team to handle the service caseload and administrative responsibilities.
Supporting customers to set personalised goals in the form of a Support Plan.
Conducting regular key work sessions that are innovative and engaging in order to achieve Support Plan goals.

Managing customer referrals, completing assessments and obtaining and maintaining all relevant paperwork.
Maximising referrals to ensure service capacity.
Developing productive relationships with partner organisations to improve service outcomes.
Adhering to lone working protocols and maintaining high levels of awareness in relation to the health and safety of yourself and colleagues.
Involving customers in the design, development and delivery of the service.
Empowering customers to ensure they receive the service and benefits they are entitled to.
Encouraging and enabling tenants to pay their rent and avoid personal debt.
Ensuring Look Ahead Health and Safety policies and local protocols are adhered to at all times e.g. fire risk assessments, fire alarm checks etc.
Taking on shift leading responsibilities by coordinating and leading shifts in the absence of a manager.

West London Crisis Recovery House is a Registered Care Home, working to a recovery model, in partnership with West London NHS Trust. The Resident Support Workers/Asset Coaches make up the Resident Support Team (RST). The purpose of the RST is to support people facing the most challenging of circumstances to make positive and lasting changes in their lives. The individuals will be in either temporary accommodation or supported housing (2-year tenancies) which KCAH oversees.
About the role
The Asset Coach will be someone who is passionate about driving change and has a keenness to apply a strength-based approach amongst our service. The Asset Coach will be willing to unlearn the traditional ways of offering support in order to build a positive one-to-one professional relationship that helps individuals to identify and develop their strengths, passions, interests and links to their wider community. The Asset Coach will support, empower and encourage resilience and resourcefulness from within each individual during to achieve strengthened confidence, identity, self-worth, sense of belonging and overall positive outcomes, which in turn can allow for a successful move on to permanent accommodation.
Main Responsibilities
Build an honest and real-world relationship based on mutual respect and observe the dignity of the person at all times. Undertake regular face to face coaching sessions which are casual, led by the individual and result in the creation of a support plan based on their support needs, strengths and interests in the wider community.
Participate in the referrals and interview process for potential tenants.
Provide one-to-one support for a caseload of individuals often facing multiple and complex challenges which includes the recording of relevant data on in-house databases such as Lamplight and other tools.
Participate in case reflections/management, reflective practice and team meetings. Attend training identified in supervision that will enable you to deliver the best service possible.
Identify opportunities and activities for individuals based on their interests, strengths, passions using the support plan including facilitating access and possibly accompanying individuals to these. Coaching sessions, opportunities and activities ideally take place in the wider community and not the ‘homelessness sector’ in order to promote independence, lessen the power imbalance between people and professionals and to normalise experiences.
Encourage the individual to access positive peer support networks and to develop healthy relationships, also ideally outside of the ‘homelessness sector’ in order to promote independent living once such services are no longer accessible to them.
Work with a Person-led and Strength-Based approach; opportunities and activities are identified based on what the individual wants with a focus on strengths and assets as well as development of personal identity, not prescribing solutions based on ‘problems’ or ‘issues`.
Liaise and learn from other Strength-Based projects, partner agencies and external organisations where appropriate.
Be involved in the delivery, organisation and risk assessment of monthly group activities identified by residents.
Maintain and promote the values and principles of the RST both in work with individuals, across KCAH and when building relationships with new organisations.
Maintain in depth and up-to-date knowledge of all KCAH policies and procedures.
Present a professional image of KCAH at all times.
Comply with all legal and health and safety requirements including safeguarding procedures.
Ensure that all safeguarding incidents and/or concerns are dealt with sensitively and professionally in line with KCAH policy and procedures, including the recording of all relevant information.
Desirable: Have a thorough understanding of a strength-based, person-led approach, and an overall belief that all people have skills, gifts and strengths.

Contact has a long history of supporting families of children with disabilities aged 0-25 in the London Borough of Lambeth. The project has an office in the Weare 336 building in Brixton.
The project currently has a full time Project Manager, and we are looking to recruit a part time Family Worker. The project is directly line managed by the national Contact’s London Family Support Projects Manager.
The project receives its core funding from the Local Authority.

As a Support Worker, you will have a caseload of customers, for which you are responsible. The service, Edward Alsop Court, offers specialist support to homeless men across a range of areas including re-offending behaviour, mental health issues, physical health needs and substance misuse. Edward Alsop Court implements and promotes the Psychologically Informed Environment (PIE) model. This is an approach to supporting people out of homelessness, those who have experienced complex trauma or are diagnosed with a personality disorder. It also considers the psychological needs of staff: developing skills and knowledge, increasing motivation, job satisfaction and resilience. Staff receive monthly reflective practice and debriefs after any serious incidents. We have an on-site Psychologist 2 days per week, An on-site Social Worker 1.5 days per week and a Nurses Clinic on-site 4 days per week. With a GP clinic once a week in the service. We also have external support from Turning Point and CGL to support our customers with their substance misuse.
The working patterns included in this role are early shifts 7am-3pm and late shifts 1pm-9pm. This involves working 2.5 weekends of 7 weeks rolling rota.
No night shifts required.

What you'll do:
Undertake key-working responsibilities for a caseload assigned by the Team Leader/ Manager
Undertake initial and continuous assessment of needs and potential risks and agree levels of support and actions
Create support/action plans for providing appropriate services based on the assessment and reflecting the services and resources available
Support customers to undertake all domestic tasks wherever possible, including practical assistance where they have not yet developed the skills, to ensure customers enjoy a high quality of accommodation
Support individuals to manage their prescribed medication
Develop and maintain links with all key agencies and service providers in the local community
Empower customers to ensure they receive the service and benefits they are entitled to
Carry out H&S and Fire Safety checks in individual rooms as well as communal areas of the building
Identify and report appropriately any Safeguarding concerns
Promptly report and follow up maintenance issues
Undertake all administrative work and keep accurate and comprehensive tenant/customer records to professional standards
Encourage and enable tenants to pay their rent and to ensure that rent accounts are managed effectively in conjunction with the Housing Management team
Ensure that referrals are chased proactively so that properties which can be used to house those in need are filled as efficiently as possible
