About the role
We are seeking a PR and Communications Manager to join our ambitious team. We know that incredible work goes on behind the scenes at Smart Works, and that what we do meaningfully helps to change the lives of thousands of women every year. But we need you to help us shout from the rooftops about our service and impact, actively seeking media opportunities and press coverage, to increase our public profile. Your work will make a real difference – spreading the Smart Works message not only to the women we exist to support, but fundraisers, referral partners, volunteers and the public too.
Duties and responsibilities
- You will amplify and lead existing integrated campaigns, including the Smart Works Unemployment Index, International Women’s Day and International Day of the Girl. With the support of the Digital Marketing Manager, Graphic Design Manager and Digital Communications Manager, you’ll ensure our campaigns are widely noticed and talked about, in the press, online and local community.
- You will develop and manage media opportunities (proactive and reactive), including owning our press office, writing and distributing press releases, building relationships with journalists, tracking coverage, and briefing spokespeople.
- You will lead and develop our Client Champions programme and case studies, ensuring the client remains central to the charity’s external voice, proactively seeking opportunities to tell their stories to encourage support/donations from external communities, and managing any nationwide communication moments/events.
- You will support our engagement with Patrons and Ambassadors, managing relationships where appropriate and seeking new advocates who can authentically help tell our story, to reach more people.
- You will lead the coordination of our internal communications calendar and reporting, working with internal stakeholders across Partnerships, Operations and our local centres to ensure that key moments are recognised, with support at a national level where appropriate.
- You will support with other team tasks, such as social media scheduling and content creation.

The successful candidate will report to our Director of Communications and Marketing. The role has no line management responsibility but will work closely with colleagues – including our Digital Marketing Manager, Digital Communications Manager and Graphic Design Manager – so you should be used to collaborating with others, in a dynamic environment.

- Proven experience in a PR, communications, or similar role, ideally within the charity.
- Demonstrable success in securing media coverage, developing and delivering PR plans, managing relationships, and working with ambassadors.
- Outstanding writing, editing and proofreading skills with excellent attention to detail, including when working with limited resource and/or under pressure.
- Ability to craft compelling stories, press releases and pitches.
- Strong relationship-building skills with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage and take responsibility for own workload, handle multiple priorities and to work independently.

Required Skills and Qualifications

You will to ensure that The Trust has accurate monthly accounts by preparing drawdown, accrual and deferral figures for the monthly finance return and regularly reviewing the Debtors Report to ensure sufficient cash flow and will manage all funder and internal audits and ensure recommendations are acted upon, sharing best practice across the team.

You will be a Mental Health and Wellbeing Lead who is passionate about supporting MAC-UK’s objective of working collaboratively with young people, innovating services and systems and their approach to mental health, to address health and social inequalities. You will be working across three London properties alongside a large multi-agency staff team made up of experts by experience/profession in psychology and therapy; youth work; offending; education, training, and employment (ETE) and housing. The service will work creatively and holistically to enable young people to exit environments involving youth violence, identify and reach their goals and aspirations, move on successfully to appropriate independent living, and importantly to sustain this life. Wherever possible staff and young people will co-produce what this service looks like and what activities the young people engage in.

- Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy aligned with GISF’s 2025-2030 strategy.

The Educational Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP) programme is a one-year postgraduate diploma course and is part of the Children and Young People’s Mental Health Psychological Training Programmes (formerly CYP IAPT). The programme trains graduate entry mental health practitioners to work in educational settings offering help for common difficulties in children and young people including anxiety, low mood and behavioural difficulties, primarily with a focus on CBT-informed evidence-based guided self-help interventions. The programme is a key part of the Green Paper proposals to increase the child mental health workforce.
In collaboration with University College London (UCL) as the degree awarding body, Anna Freud is recruiting a Practice Tutor to support the delivery of the EMHP Programme.
The Practice Tutors will be expected to facilitate practice tutor groups, contribute to the training and support EMHP trainees in a variety of ways to develop their learning and practice as EMHPs. The post-holders will also contribute to teaching sessions, undertake marking, personal tutoring and other similar tasks to support the delivery of the programme.
The ideal candidates must have knowledge and experience of delivering CBT or CBT-informed interventions for low mood and anxiety as well evidence-based interventions for behavioural difficulties and have experience in inclusive facilitation of small group learning.
Location
Hybrid (a mixture of home/onsite working), the delivery of teaching and Practice Tutor Groups facilitation by the post-holder is almost all face-to-face. For face-to-face work, the post-holder will be required to attend in person at our London office (4-8 Rodney Street, London N1 9JH).
