Family Support Worker 

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of children with disabilities?  Do you want to join a charity dedicated to helping children with disabilities and additional needs reach their full potential?

This driven charity is seeking a compassionate and proactive Family Support Worker to join the team in this brand-new role, shaped by feedback from families to help them move closer to achieving a 'whole family' approach to support.

Position: Family Support Worker

Location: Bridgwater / Hybrid* occasionally

Hours: Part-time, 30 hours per week over 5 days

Contract: Permanent

Salary: £23,114 - £24,702 per annum pro rata (£18,491.20 per annum based on 30 hours per week)

About the role: 

As the Family Support Worker, you will be crucial in ensuring this brand-new role is a success with consistent communications and comprehensive team support, all whilst maintaining a positive and collaborative approach.

In this role, you will:

• Provide personalised advice, advocacy, and emotional support to parent carers, assessing their needs and signposting them to appropriate services.

• Develop and implement 'whole family' support services, including peer support groups, workshops, and online resources.

• Monitor and report on the impact of our services, identifying gaps and proposing user-led solutions to improve outcomes.

• Collaborate with the Family Support Coordinator to provide follow-up support and cover during periods of absence or increased demand.

About You

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, a proactive mindset, and a strong commitment to supporting families of children with disabilities and additional needs. Experience in family advocacy, service development, or working with nonprofit organisations is highly desirable.

You will have:

• Proven experience in advice and information work in a similar role, preferably within a charity or non-profit organisation.

• Experience in developing and implementing support services for families, preferably within the field of disability and / or additional needs.

• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage time effectively, prioritise tasks, and work independently.

• Experience of supporting parent carers or individuals with disabilities/additional needs in an advice, information giving or advocacy role.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and establish trusting relationships with diverse individuals and families.

You will be asked to send your CV along with a covering letter (no longer than two sides of A4) explaining why you are interested in this role and why you believe you would be a good fit. In your letter, detail how your experience aligns with the role and how you meet the requirements outlined in our person specification.

This role is a face to face role and is required to be available to work at our National Therapy Assessment Centre based in Bridgwater, Somerset with occasional working from home.

The charity exists to help children with disabilities achieve greater independence by aiming to improve their mobility, communication skills and learning potential through a range of specialist therapies, and the children it works with have a range of conditions including autism, cerebral palsy and genetic disorders such as Down syndrome.
