About Chapter One

Chapter One is a dynamic, growing charity with a vision of a world in which all children have the literacy skills needed to thrive. Our mission is to close the reading gap by providing children with one-to-one support at the time they need it most. 

Our unique Online Reading Volunteer programme currently supports about 3,000 children a year. It pairs disadvantaged, struggling five to eight-year old (KS1) readers with reading support volunteers who come from over 140 local and national businesses. The volunteer ask is very focused: readers commit 30 minutes a week to read with a child using a bespoke digital platform for an entire academic year. The results are transformative, boosting children's reading confidence and ability. 

We have set ourselves ambitious targets to support thousands more children by 2029, and this role, with responsibility for managing, stewarding and nurturing our existing corporate partners, will be crucial to ensuring that we have sufficient volunteers and support to achieve not only this target, but also to develop other innovative pilot programmes.

About the role 

Chapter One is seeking a proactive, energetic and enthusiastic Corporate Partnerships Manager to be an integral part of a team which aims to both maximise corporate income and deliver an excellent partner and volunteer experience. 

Reporting to our Head of Corporate Partnerships, and responsible for the line management of our Corporate Partnerships Officer, you’ll deliver on our annual volunteer and income targets and maintain our strong partner retention rate (target 87%). This will involve supporting the account management of a portfolio of existing partners and the responsibility to nurture relationships to increase partner investment in Chapter One over time. The role involves collaborating across departments to ensure a seamless and positive experience for volunteers and partners

This is an opportunity for an experienced partnerships manager to take on a more senior role and demonstrate their sales acumen and creativity in a dynamic, flexible and agile charity.

Key Responsibilities

Partner Stewardship

• Lead the account management of a selected portfolio of corporate partners, ensuring Chapter One achieves its annual retention and growth targets 

• In collaboration with the Head of Corporate Partnerships, devise effective schemes of delegation and partner allocation within the Corporate Partnerships Team 

• Focus, in all corporate partnership discussions, on maximising income 

• Identify opportunities to increase a partner’s support eg by identifying other regional/divisional opportunities or inclusion of Chapter One as a social value partner in public sector bids

• Conduct regular partnership meetings, including mid and end of year reviews, proactively proposing tailored opportunities to retain and grow partner support

• Lead on producing high quality written communications, reports, proposals and pitches as per the requirements of each partner, collaborating with the Data and Systems Officer and Fundraising team as needed

• Advocate effectively, with passion and enthusiasm, for Chapter One’s programmes in a variety of internal and external settings

• Proactively network to deepen and strengthen external relationships with Chapter One partners, identifying speaking opportunities for Chapter One where possible

• Strategically use LinkedIn to identify, connect with, and actively engage key stakeholders within corporate partner organisations,

• Attend conference and events to represent Chapter One and talk about its work to existing and potential new partners

• Keep up to date with relevant business news and strategic shifts or developments at key partners and sectors, proactively seeking opportunities to broaden knowledge

• Regularly analyse data in Microsoft Excel / Google Sheets, working with formulas, pivot tables and data analysis tools to aid decision-making and create dashboards. 

• Oversee and maintain all Account Management related processes, including stewardship plans, recording of activity on the Salesforce CRM and internal platform databases

• Ensure, in conjunction with the Finance Assistant, that partners are invoiced for their Chapter One donations accurately and in a timely manner

Line management

• Line manage and develop the Corporate Partnerships Officer, ensuring adherence to all Chapter One’s HR Policies and Procedures

• Be a source of advice and guidance for the Corporate Partnerships Officer as they manage their allocated partner relationships

• Supervise the Corporate Partnerships Officer to lead volunteer recruitment meetings, including stepping in if necessary

• Supervise the Corporate Partnerships Officer to manage new partner onboarding meetings, stepping in to lead them if required

Partner/volunteer onboarding and experience

• Alongside the Head of Corporate Partnerships, use internal systems to assign partner teams and volunteers to specific schools and ensure that their needs are met

• Develop proactive, supportive relationships with Volunteer Coordinators in partner organisations, providing high-quality data and information in a timely manner

• Work closely with the Volunteer Support Team to ensure that partner and volunteer onboarding is a smooth, time-efficient experience 

• Support the Programme Management team to liaise with partner contacts about the organisation of in-person school/office visits and virtual meet and greets

• Attend Chapter One’s internal Volunteer Experience group and Corporate Engagement Group.

Marketing and Communications

• Work with the Marketing and Communications team to ensure that companies and volunteers have access to an array of promotional assets and recruitment materials

• Create and provide content for the regular volunteer and corporate partner newsletters, including working with partners to gather volunteer testimonials and partner profiles

• Work closely with the Marketing and Communications team to develop ways to promote, showcase and celebrate partnerships and individual volunteers across our social media channels and other digital platforms

• Encourage corporate partners to promote Chapter One through their own social media and channels

• Support the organisation of online and in person partner and volunteer recognition events

We are looking for the following key skills, though you might be more experienced in some areas than others:

Account Management Skills:

• Experience of managing Corporate Partnerships, or equivalent relationship-based roles in a fundraising, events, sales or marketing environment

• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with business professionals at all levels

• Expert meeting facilitation skills 

• Strategic thinker, able to maximise income and growth opportunities

• Understanding of CSR / ESG partner policies and social value trends

Communication Skills:

• Able to eloquently express commitment to Chapter One’s mission and values

• Outstanding presentation and storytelling skills, with the ability to excite and inspire an audience

• An ability to create compelling, attractive written pitches, ensuring messaging and brand are consistent

• Experience of engaging partners on social media (particularly LinkedIn)

• Experience of representing organisations at events 

Technical Skills:

• Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Excel/Google Sheets (including formulas, pivot tables, dashboard creation)

• CRM management (specifically Salesforce)

• Experience of complex data analysis

Sussex Emmaus is a charity dedicated to supporting individuals who have experienced social exclusion or homelessness. We are now recruiting for a Warehouse Co-ordinator to ensure the efficient running of the warehouse (Undercroft). You will be joining a friendly and enthusiastic team who are passionate about what they do.

The Coordinator ensures the warehouse is organised and is following applicable laws and regulations. This includes working with Companions and volunteers, overseeing receiving, sorting and pricing of donations, always maximising income. This is a hands-on role where your ability to lead by example will motivate our team of Companions and volunteers to provide exemplary customer service and to generate a financial surplus to support the charity.

You will supervise and work alongside Companions who are allocated to the warehouse during the business operating hours with conduct issues being managed by the Business Manager. You will also supervise and work alongside volunteers who are allocated to the warehouse during business operating hours with the Business Manager handling any conduct issues that may arise.

Duties & responsibilities
People

• To work alongside and train Companions to increase their skill base and confidence
• To organise the deployment of tasks to individuals and team members
• To train, supervise, motivate, and inspire volunteers and companions.
• To help devise and deliver induction on standards of work to new team members so that retail activities are delivered to the agreed brand, including customer service, merchandising, pricing, stock control, and culture
• To ensure that all activities under supervision are engaging, enabling, empowering and holding to account the team members

Warehouse Operation

• To ensure effective and efficient day-to-day operations by maximising quality donations and minimising waste
• To ensure day-to-day smooth and productive processes are being implemented to excellent standards for quality, culture, and legislative compliance
• To be proactive in the generation of donated stock, managing stock collection efficiently and effectively to the agreed standards and timescales under Emmaus guidelines
• To ensure premises, Health & Safety, security, and maintenance checks and actions are complete within the identified time, and to identify new checks or actions to schedule as to comply with Health and Safety requirements
• To ensure that cover for the safe operation of the Undercroft is always sufficient
• To cover van driving shifts as needed.

Stock Management

• To work closely with all Retail Managers to ensure each retail enterprise is receiving adequate stock to generate their required weekly sales targets
• To be responsible for ensuring that only sellable donations and those that conform to all relevant UK government and trading standards legislation are accepted for resale in the shop
• To disseminate any changes from Trading Standards as and when to relevant parties to ensure compliance
• To ensure all donated items are sorted and priced and merchandised to receive the optimum for the charity and the correct procedures are applied throughout the sorting process to allow for coding and pricing to be applied to items

Safety, Health, and Environment

• To oversee all Health & Safety requirements within the warehouse, taking corrective action as and when required, and informing/liaising with managers and team as necessary
• To assist in compiling risk assessments with team members
• Ensure safe working systems are adhered to in conjunction with the Emmaus policies and procedures, and are compliant with all relevant legal requirements
• To ensure that Health & Safety is adhered to in terms of equipment use and that manual handling guidelines are followed
• Ensure work areas follow correct processing procedures, ensuring that the work area is always kept clean and tidy
• Assist in delivering Health & Safety training to new Companions and volunteers
• Recycling/Re-use and Waste Management
• To recommend creative ways to upcycle, reuse and repurpose stock to maximise profit and reduce wastage
• To supervise the disposal of unsaleable items to minimise waste as appropriate in line with Sussex Emmaus’s Environmental Policy and procurement Policy.

As Individual Giving and Appeals Manager, you’ll deliver integrated fundraising campaigns across direct mail, email, and digital channels — helping us grow our individual giving base and strengthen donor loyalty. 

Alongside driving individual and regular giving, you’ll help shape a new in-memory giving offer, build our legacy giving programme from the ground up, and grow our Named Funds programme.

We’re looking for a highly skilled and experienced public affairs professional to join our small staff team to lead our public affairs activity and to grow the influence of the Children and Young People’s Mental Health Coalition. This is an exciting opportunity to influence positive change at a time of significant policy and political developments.

As Public Affairs Advisor, you will lead on the Coalition’s public affairs and influencing activity. You will be responsible for influencing the Government’s policy and legislative agenda relating to children and young people’s mental health, forging relationships with the new Parliament, and ensuring the Coalition’s views are heard across Westminster and Whitehall.

With over 370 members across the country, our Coalition has a significant potential to extend its influence. Many of our existing members are well placed to influence at a local level through working with their NHS Integrated Care Boards, councils and MPs, but do not always feel confident carrying out public affairs work. As Public Affairs Adviser, you will work with our members to upskill them to carry out their own influencing activity through a series of ‘Learning and Development’ workshops.

You will have Public Affairs experience of developing successful strategies to influence legislation or government policy, have strong knowledge of political systems and processes, have existing networks and contacts, and feel passionate about creating positive change for babies, children and young people.

This is a new role within the Coalition staff team and is generously supported by the Prudence Trust and the Hollick Family Foundation.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the development and delivery of the Coalition’s parliamentary influencing strategy.
• Build and maintain relationships with Parliamentarians and other key stakeholders, such as civil servants and special advisers.
• Lead the Coalition’s engagement with Parliament and Government, ensuring strong systems are in place to capture and track engagement.
• Monitor and respond to political and legislative developments affecting our work, making recommendations for responses, and proactively seeking opportunities to further the Coalition’s objectives.
• Provide political intelligence to the staff team, Chair and our members, and help to prepare staff for parliamentary activity as appropriate.
• Produce high quality written briefings, reports and other materials that communicate our messages clearly and effectively to a parliamentary audience. This will also include contributing to other Coalition communications such as media responses, newsletters, blogs, and social media posts.
• Plan and deliver events aimed at political stakeholders, for example, parliamentary events and roundtables.
• Participate in collaborations with other charities for shared influencing activities, for example the Fund the Hubs campaign and the Future Minds campaign.  
• Support work on legislation as appropriate, including drafting amendments.

Working with members

• Regularly engage with members to understand their influencing priorities and to gather insight to help inform the Coalition’s wider influencing priorities.
• Connect Coalition members to decision makers and help spotlight their work, for example, helping to organise visits to services.
• Provide advice to members on engaging with their local decision-makers such as their local MP, Integrated Care Boards and Councillors.
• Deliver workshops with members to share information and skills related to influencing and public affairs activity. For example, this could include delivery of sessions on influencing local systems, working with the government, and legislative processes.  

General

• Work closely with the Coalition Lead, the Policy and Public Affairs Assistant, and Chair of the Coalition to develop and review priorities for the Coalition and support to drive these forwards. You will also be required to work closely with the staff at Centre for Mental Health.
• Support with the development and implementation of the Coalition’s work plan and projects.
• To undertake any other duties as reasonably required by the Coalition Lead or Chair of the Coalition

The 2021 Census shows that around 36% of Camden’s households are now made up of private renters, and in the Haverstock and Primrose Hill wards, where this project will operate, it’s 27% and 35% respectively. This group of residents is often unaware of what services are out there to help them, where they are located, and how they access them.

This new role has been created to outreach and engage with private renters in the 2 wards specified and it will also include information production, dissemination and project management work. The worker will set up the project and is the key person in ensuring the smooth delivery of it in line with its stated aims and objectives.

Please note: You will need to be based in/around London for this role as it involves work within specific locations in the London Borough of Camden and is not suitable for home working or long distance travelling.

Project management:

1. To have an awareness any relevant developments (internal/external) which could impact on work of the project

2. To assist CFPT’s Organiser to identify and make applications to funders to ensure the long-term sustainability of the project, if this is required

We're recruiting for a new role for someone to lead on People and Culture at Involve.

Involve has grown in terms of both its turnover and staffing headcount in recent years. In 2024, we marked our 20th anniversary and the need for this new role reflects the growth and maturity of the organisation as we build the infrastructure to support the larger, more established organisation of around 30 people.

The People and Culture lead will report to the Director of Finance and Support Services and be responsible for developing our HR policy and practice taking a holistic approach and embedding our values into HR policy, leading consultation with our union on policy development. They will work closely with the management team to support the development and implementation of strategies to foster a positive organisational culture and provide HR generalist support to our team.

We work across the UK, with offices in Belfast and London. Many of our staff work from home across the UK or in a hybrid pattern, rather than being based at one of our offices, though we meet up regularly as a team.

Purpose of job

This new role will lead on individual giving and events fundraising for Oasis Hub Waterloo with a focus on securing funds for Lambeth & Croydon Foodbank and our associated advice services. This will include developing our awareness and capacity to gain income from high-net-worth individuals, events and legacies.

About the role

You will be based in the North East and as a key part of our schools team, help to lead, support and advise the regional team of school Pathways Coordinators, embedding the MCR programme in schools in the region.  You’ll need to be highly motivated to ensure that all care-experienced young people and those experiencing disadvantage are supported to find, grow and use their individual talents and that their education, employment choices and life changes outcomes are maximised.
