An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Alumni Networks Executive to join us on a permanent basis in The Development & Alumni Engagement Office.
About the Role
The Alumni Networks Team manage the Regional and Special Interest Groups - the Alumni Networks programme which is run through alumni volunteers throughout the world. The role of Alumni Networks Executive will deliver some aspects of the alumni engagement strategy and takes direct responsibility for managing the existing groups and also enhancing the Alumni Networks programme with strategic groups, including Special Interest Groups. The team act as the primary contact between the University and its alumni networks around the world and is responsible for managing relationships with these groups to further mutually beneficial aims that actively contribute to the University’s strategic goals. The role is a mix of proactive engagement and project delivery across a range of stakeholders, and while also supporting the alumni groups including funding applications, general volunteer management and advising committee members on how best to support the University. The role also line manages the Alumni Networks Coordinator.

· You will have proven experience in stakeholder management, especially volunteers.
· You will be confident in meeting a range of people at all levels and have excellent diplomacy and communication skills.
· You will be able to develop close working relationships with a range of audiences and can balance a variety of stakeholder needs while delivering on strategic priorities.
· You will be happy in a team environment and proactive in working towards the goals of the wider team, as well as working independently.

Though we support and signpost our students regardless of their issue, the majority of our caseload relates to Student Finance and other money issues so applicants with relevant experience and expertise are encouraged to apply. Working within a team of five Advisers to deliver our free, impartial and confidential service, the successful applicant will advise students on primarily Money, Academic and Disciplinary matters. As a dynamic and agile organisation, we always signpost or advocate where we cannot directly advise, and so expect to help students facing challenges from everything from housing to sexual violence.
Our Advice Team advises across telephone, Microsoft Teams and face to face appointments, alongside monitoring a shared email inbox, supporting colleagues with research and data analysis, contributing to and creating various resources and occasionally attending university committees or working groups to provide technical expertise. Occasional weekend and evening work (to support the delivery of Open Days) will be required, as well as work at our university's Stafford site. We do great work for our students; Be A Part Of It.
Details of the role
Hours: Full time, Annualised Hours.
Holiday: 5 Weeks per year plus Bank Holidays pro rata (That's 33 days!)
Start date: March 2025 onwards
Working Hours: Monday to Friday with occasional evenings and weekends

To be a successful Students' Union Adviser you will need:
- At least 12 months experience in advice work (paid or unpaid) demonstrating managing a case load, actively prioritising work, assessing risks, collaborating and communicating appropriately within deadlines.
- The ability to demonstrate an in-depth understanding of at least one of the following areas of advice; housing; benefits; finance; consumer; legal.
- An attention to detail to ensure that the advice given and case notes are always to a high standard.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and an ability to empathise with and sensitively support all clients or liaise in a professional manner with external stakeholders
- The ability to work flexibly as part of a team
- Excellent Office 365 skills, including everyday use of Sharepoint and Teams

Overall Aim

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Development Executive in their Mathematical Institute to join us on a fixed term basis until 30 April 2026. The department has a strong platform of fundraising, having raised significant funds for the Andrew Wiles Building and numerous scholarship programmes. There is a great deal of scope to further engage with the Institute’s donor, friends and funding partners, and develop a comprehensive fundraising strategy and programme to sit alongside the Institute’s well established alumni relations and public engagement programme.
About the Role
· Play a crucial role in ensuring that philanthropic income against the core priorities of the MPLS Division and Mathematical Institute rises in a steady and sustainable manner year on year through the identification and engagement of new potential donors and the successful acquisition of new gifts.
· Implement solicitation strategies to secure major gift and legacies support (typically between £500,000 and £1,000,000) often working jointly with a senior academic.
· Identify prospective donors with whom the University will aim to develop significant philanthropic relationships and build a robust prospect pipeline.
· Be able to understand academically complex projects and explain and promote them to potential, non-specialist donors.
