This is an exciting time to join the NHM’s Development team, as we have launched a major capital campaign that is set to rejuvenate the Museum spaces and transform access to our collections. Alongside this we have secured investment from the UK Government to build a major new science and digitisation centre at the Thames Valley Science Park in collaboration with the University of Reading. The purpose-built centre will house much of the Museum's collection and will include laboratories, digitisation suites, collaborative research spaces, conservation labs and workspaces.

 Job Summary

Development Group generates philanthropic and sponsorship income to help us create a Natural History Museum for the future – investing in capital development, attaining vital acquisitions for the collection, transforming our galleries, developing innovative exhibitions and undertaking ground-breaking scientific research on issues that affect us all.

The Museum is looking for an ambitious and self-motivated individual for the role of Philanthropy Manager. The role will contribute to our strategic priorities, working closely with the Senior Principal Gifts manager to cultivate and maintain relationships with new and existing funders. With opportunities to fundraise towards a diverse range of core and capital projects.

Working alongside an approachable and highly successful Philanthropy team, reporting into the Senior Principal Gifts manager, the role will support the development of our Principal giving strategy, building relationships with a portfolio of potential and existing funders engaging them through phone calls, meetings, written correspondence, events and by creating compelling proposals.

The role will provide substantial opportunity for professional development within a world-leading cultural organisation.

Main Responsibilities 

Fundraising

· Raise income in line with agreed personal targets and KPI’s, contributing to the Philanthropy team’s current annual income target of £7m+.

· Cultivate a portfolio of major donor prospects in the UK and abroad at the six-figure gift level and support the Senior Principal Gifts Manager in the management of seven-figure gifts.

· Establish strong cross-Museum relationships to develop programme ideas in line with funders’ interests, and craft compelling cases for support.

· Work independently and in collaboration with the Senior Principal Gifts Manager, Head of Philanthropy  and Director of Development to plan and implement creative strategies to increase philanthropic gifts at the seven-figure gift level.

· Actively solicit funding personally through bespoke cultivation plans and utilise senior stakeholders effectively when needed.

· Prepare written briefings for senior management for meetings with prospective donors as well as follow up documentation and correspondence.

· Ensure all required gift reporting is delivered to the highest standards, supporting the development of robust evaluation processes with colleagues where needed.

· Promote best practice in fundraising across the NHM.

Finance and Administration

· Work closely with Finance and project delivery colleagues to monitor incoming payments and ensure that donations are spent in line with funding agreements.

· Ensure full and timely records of all activity are kept on the database in adherence to set policies and procedures.

General

· Stay informed of key developments within the sector by monitoring government and third-sector policies and relevant publications.

· Attend evening and occasional weekend meetings and events, as required within the nature of the post.

· Assist with other duties that may be reasonably required.

Essential

· A demonstrable track-record in securing and managing gifts from high-networth-individuals, including research, crafting compelling proposals, and effective stewardship.

· Exceptional written and oral communication skills, with an ability to convey detailed information in a concise and engaging manner.

· Ability to establish productive relationships with a variety of funders, prospects and colleagues.

· Ability to work proactively and constructively with colleagues to develop high-quality project proposals.

· Ability to act as an ambassador for the Natural History Museum amongst a range of high-profile external contacts.

· Exceptional attention to detail and organisational skills.

· Ability to prioritise and meet regular deadlines whilst working under pressure.

Desirable

· Direct fundraising experience in the cultural/environmental sector with High-Net-Worth Individuals. 

· Experience of working with senior stakeholders (Trustees, Directors and Senior Leadership teams).

· Experience working on capital or campaign fundraising.

The Role

We now seek a Monitoring, Evaluation, Learning and Research Manager to deliver a step change in organisational capacity in the MELR space, develop our approaches to data collection, and coordinate planning and reporting processes. Independent Age is the national charity focused on improving the lives of people facing financial hardship in later life. We believe no one should face financial hardship in later life. The Media Communications Manager is responsible for overseeing Independent Age’s media communications programme, including media and PR, social media, celebrities and stories. They will lead the team to secure profile-raising coverage for our work in a range of print, online and broadcast media outlets including national news, consumer, sector-specific, and regional titles, oversee our organic social media and ensure our channels amplify our work and reach older people, decision makers and other influential stakeholders.

The Media Communications Manager will build excellent relationships with older people with lived experience of poverty, ensuring the voices of older people in financial hardship are at the centre of everything we do. They will also grow the organisations relationships with journalists, channel owners, celebrities, ambassadors, and other influencers to ensure that our media communications activity supports our organisational objective to tackle poverty in later life.    

You should have broad experience of developing and implementing innovative, successful profile-raising plans (across digital and traditional channels).  You will bring an ability to work both proactively and reactively, and experience of handling reputational or crisis issues. You should also have a passion for, and affinity with, the charity’s cause.

Role context:

Cord’s turnover is about £2m a year. About 85% of Cord’s funding is restricted, coming from institutional donors like the EU and the US government, and 15% (about £300K) is unrestricted coming from a committed UK supporter base and other private fundraising streams.

The Finance Manager role is a newly created role which is being introduced to strengthen the organisation’s financial management and control systems. The postholder will work across the breadth of the finance function preparing internal management accounts and external annual accounts.

In 2024, Cord changed its finance system to use Business Central. The Finance Manager will become the organisation’s main ‘admin’ user of the finance system. In the near-term, there will be a particular focus on rolling out further functionality of the system.

The Finance Manager will have oversight of the UK finance function through the line management of the UK Finance Officer and will directly deliver on the international side of operations in the areas of donor compliance, programme financial management, partner financial monitoring, and reporting. The role will involve travel to international programme locations.

Job Purpose

Global Generation is looking for someone who is passionate about working with local communities to create safe, inclusive and inspiring green spaces. As the Story Garden Manager, you will be responsible for managing the Story Garden and our move in October 2025. You will work closely with our community engagement team, to ensure that the Story Garden legacy lives on in Somers Town. You will also manage our small Garden Team, to oversee horticultural, volunteering and community engagement activities at the Story Garden and for a short period of time, after the move, at our new site and/or in a new community hub created in Somers Town.

This role is primarily based at the Story Garden in King’s Cross, working closely with our local community of Somers Town. You will work with the garden team, community engagement team, education & community programmes team, chefs, volunteers and engage people of all ages.

Main duties and responsibilities

Garden planning and management of Story Garden and related projects

• Support garden team with horticultural work, including planning and procurement

• Project manage Story Garden funded projects - responsible for ensuring outputs and outcomes are monitored and met, building strong relationships with and reporting to funders (City Bridge Trust, Future Neighbourhoods Phase 3)

• Work alongside our Community Engagement Manager to run community events

• Alongside the Head of Gardens, manage the general Story Garden budget

  Project Management of Story Garden move

• Project manage the move of the Story Garden ensuring that there is a positive legacy to the work done at the Story Garden - this will involve donating plants, planters and structures to others in the local community

• Build on existing and create new partnerships with others locally, local community organisations and TRAs to deliver the legacy of the Story Garden

  Training and volunteering

• Manage and deliver corporate volunteer days at Story Garden and the new garden we’re building

• Support the Seasonal Gardener on the running of the Gardening Club

• Work with the Somers Town Team to integrate volunteering and training opportunities within the wider area and upskill local people

• City & Guilds Level 2 Horticulture or equivalent and 3 years experience in a practical horticulture role, feeling confident enough to facilitate gardening activities
