The role is primarily homebased with will have regular travel around the North East region for internal meetings and visiting beneficiaries, therefore you will need to live in a location that allows reasonable travel around this area.

There will also be occasional travel nationally to attend training / meetings.

Driving licence is essential requirement for this role.

Here at Action For Humanity (AFH), we are looking for a Director of Finance & Services to join us. You will join us on a full-time basis and in return you will receive a competitive annual salary of £65,000 to £70,000.

As our Director of Finance & Services, you will be responsible to prepare, manage and implement the financial strategy, policies, procedures, and financial controls framework at AFH, as well as inputting strategically and operationally on  services including HR, Procurement and Facilities. Reporting to the CEO and sitting on the Executive Leadership Team, the Director of Finance & Services will work closely with the charity’s leaders to deliver the charity’s objectives. H/she will ensure controls are effectively in place and functional, and h/she will ensure compliance with the rules and regulations AFH is bound by as a charity.  H/she will lead the Finance team and be ultimately responsible for all Finance objectives.

Your responsibilities as our Director of Finance & Services will include the following:

1. Strategic leadership

• As an Executive Leadership Team member, the Director of Finance & Services shall assist the CEO, the AFR and Board of Trustees (BoT) in:
  • developing and implementing the financial strategy, policy and manual;
  • Ensure that investments are meeting their intended objectives, and revise the investment policy as needed to maintain alignment with goalsproviding strategic direction to the organisation through executive decision making, forecasting/budgeting and its implementation;
  •  establishing and implementing internal controls and ensuring efficient and effective financial operations as per industry and sector benchmarks.
• Attend Executive Leadership, Senior Leadership, AFR, and Board meetings, contributing and if necessary, leading them.
• Work with the CEO to develop, co-ordinate and monitor all costings for bids, projects, and core budget.

2. Stakeholder Management

• Maintain effective relationship and coordination with key stakeholders, including local, national, and global organisations, government bodies, banks, donor institutions, etc.
• Ensure independence of the Internal Audit function, the AFR and the Board from the financial operating matters.
• Liaise with partner organisations and provide the necessary leadership and technical support.

3. Compliance

• Ensure Financial and Accounting policies, procedures, and systems are in accordance with statutory regulations, industry benchmarks, and global standards, and in compliance with risk management and internal controls.
• Ensure that all accounting records are properly and timely maintained, reporting cycles and other associated engagements are successfully performed in an effective and timely manner in accordance with the regulatory and organisational requirements.
• Ensure compliance with agreements and contracts in relation to banks and external service providers.

4. Team Leadership

• Assume overall responsibility for UK & International Finance teams, and assume overall responsibility for services including   Procurement and Facilities, including necessary resourcing/recruitment, inductions, training, retention, and day to day management.
• Focusing on team members’ knowledge, skills, and attitudes for building capacities to deliver on present positions and build long term capability to shoulder additional responsibilities.
• Ensure performance management is utilised effectively for all direct reports, to reward good performance and promote a culture of accountability and merit.
• Provide support, guidance, and development to international finance staff.

5. Planning, Reporting and managing resources

• Develop, maintain and monitor the financial systems of the organisation to ensure the production of accurate & timely reports.
• Create business value through technology, ensuring tech systems and procedures lead to outcomes in line with organisational goals, and support with developing the IT and software systems used within finance and services, particularly an ERP system.
• Negotiate contracts and agreements with third parties for commercial aspects of the running AFH.
• Finalise the annual financial statements and periodic financial reports (as applicable), obtain external audit approval, and present them to the CEO, AFR Committee, and Board of Trustees for consideration and approval.Monitor and report on the overall funding status, and coordinate with stakeholders for arrangement and management of funds and grants.
• Ensure funding applications are properly prepared and AFH costs fully covered through a robust cost recovery and cross charging methodology, working with the leadership teams to interact with relevant stakeholders for these purposes.
• Conduct financial analysis and review of existing and proposed programmes, projects, and campaigns, contributing to decision making in this area. Oversee staff payroll, handling of petty cash and banking of donations, management of activity fees and credit control process

6. Other

• Perform any other task assigned by the CEO/AFR or the Board.

What we are looking for in our Director of Finance & Services:

Education

• Qualified Accountant (ICAEW, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA)
• Evidence of continuous professional development

Experience

• Significant experience of a senior leadership team role is essential, as well as having managed a direct team and promoting high performance
• Experience in dealing with external audit and internal audit functions
• Experience of managing change and growth
• Knowledge and experience of Charity finance would be an advantage
• A proven track record of successfully managing all aspects of an operation and delivering successful outcomes
• Experience of preparing financial statements, consolidated accounts and seeing through the audit process from start to finish
• Experience of leading services functions including HR, Procurement and Facilities

Skills

• Excellent attention to detail
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build great relationships with a range of external and internal stakeholders, including trustees, partners, and members
• Excellent communication skills, recognising the need to raise awareness and grow our brand and offerings through presentations to a variety of stakeholders
• Advanced ICT skills in MS Office programs, particularly Excel, and Finance/Accounting software
• Flexibility and the ability to manage time effectively whilst juggling multiple tasks
• Understanding of political, business and investment climate in UK, Canada and USA
• Understanding of humanitarian and international development sector globally, particularly in relation to the Middle East, Africa and South Asia

Languages

• Strong written and spoken English (Essential)
• Strong written and spoken Arabic, Urdu, or French (Desirable)

About the Role

Job Title: Events Fundraising Officer

Reports to:  Challenge Events Manager

Hours: 37.5 hours, Monday to Friday 9-5pm (including some evening and weekends)

Role purpose: You will be leading on a number of the charity’s large events, overseeing on the day event logistics, marketing, planning and fundraiser stewardship. All with the aim of increasing potential income from participants.

This exciting role will involve supporting the Young Vets Club Manager to expand the Young Vets Club programme, including creating content for members, supporting on promotional campaigns, dealing with member queries, attending events, and helping to inspire the next generation of animal lovers and veterinarians.

This role offers a great opportunity for the right candidate, with opportunity to learn new skills within a friendly team. There is some flexibility for working at home, but the role will require a minimum of 2 days a week at one of the WVS offices, either near Tregony, Cornwall or Cranborne, Dorset.

At Worldwide Veterinary Service (WVS) we champion animal welfare around the world. We send vets where they are needed most, provide expert veterinary training in hard-to-reach places, and ship urgent aid supplies worldwide, every day of the year.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

• Support the Young Vets Club manager in providing content for Young Vets Club materials including the magazine, social media and the website.
• Manage the Young Vets Club social media channels, with the support of the wider Marketing team.
• Attend and organise events to raise awareness of the work of WVS and grow membership of Young Vets Club.
• Assist in the sending out of supporter communications including membership packs and magazines.
• Keep the CRM up to date, monitor stock and ensure members receive communication on time.
• Assist the wider team with other tasks as needed.

About The Role

The Social Mobility and Widening Participation Senior Officer is a vital member of the department. The post-holder will lead on the development, delivery and evaluation of sustained outreach initiatives. They will also be involved in a range of other challenging projects run across the Social Mobility and Widening Participation Department.

This role will co-lead on the delivery of K+, supporting participants on our arts, humanities and social science pathways. K+ is King’s flagship widening participation programme for sixth form and college students. The post-holder will be responsible for developing and delivering a comprehensive range of events for Year 12 participants as part of non-residential Spring and Summer Schools. This will involve working collaboratively with schools and teachers within Greater London and King’s target regions, King’s faculties and with corporate and charity partners.

The post holder will work closely with the wider Post-16 Programmes team, student ambassadors and key partner staff. This role is responsible to the Social Mobility and Widening Participation Manager.

The Peer Support and Community team at Kinship is dedicated to enhancing the lives of kinship carers across England and Wales by delivering the first national peer support service. With a focus on building and sustaining networks of peer support groups, the team aims to empower kinship carers through access to resources, training, and development opportunities.

By fostering connections within local, regional, and national ecosystems, the team plays a vital role in ensuring that every kinship carer has access to a supportive community.

 About the role

This role is community-based and focuses on engaging kinship carers, bringing them together to form Peer Support Groups, and supporting them to achieve independence at which point they will receive ongoing support from our national Hub.

You will do this by working with local authorities, schools, other charities and community groups. Arranging information events such as coffee mornings to engage kinship carers. You’ll create a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive community for kinship carers, building belonging, resilience, and empowerment.

Funded by the Department of Education, the National Peer Support Service is a game-changing service that creates a sustainable and life-changing legacy. It builds on Kinship’s 10 years of experience in developing peer support groups and two years of delivering a national service that has set up 145 new groups.

Who we are looking for

We are seeking an individual located in South East of England, who possesses the drive, passion, and skills to:

• Develop new Peer Support Groups across a diverse range of communities
• Demonstrate the energy and enthusiasm required to achieve key targets and objectives
• Work collaboratively within the Peer Support and Community Team, as well as throughout the broader organisation, to ensure the development of safe and effective support services for the kinship community.
• Maintain current Peer Support Group levels, taking the lead from the national Hub.
• Maintain accurate records that are used to populate reports, identify learning and share key insights across Kinship that allow the organisation to continuously improve our services and products.

You should have experience in developing and maintaining meaningful relationships with various community-based stakeholders such as local authorities, health services, schools, charities, and kinship carers. You will need to understand the key success factors involved in establishing and developing new in-person groups in areas of high need, as well as how to support existing groups in their journey towards sustainability.

As a practical thinker, you will work creatively to identify stakeholders and assets in areas of high need. You will build local connections and bring together kinship carers across the region, empowering them to build resilient and robust peer support communities.

You will be confident in building relationships that generate referrals from external stakeholders and in contacting kinship carers directly to secure engagement with local coffee mornings, community, and training events that will help kick-start a thriving peer support group.

As you establish new groups, you will provide support and training to help them lead their groups effectively, and develop their group culture, resilience, and skills to function independently while offering reassurance and support to empower them.

We are ideally looking for candidates based close or within easy reach of our priority development areas in the South East of England which include; Reading, Oxfordshire, West Berkshire, Slough and Hampshire but also able to travel to locations along the M4 corridor.

An essential requirement of the role is to be a driver with access to a vehicle for work purposes.

 Key responsibilities: 

Service delivery:

• In-person (face-to-face) strategic outreach into local communities including setting up and attending local engagement events.
• Set up and develop sustainable in person peer support groups, initially attending and leading sessions in person before transition to self-sufficiency. 
• Working with existing groups that are at risk, closed or need support that need replacing or rejuvenating to maintain DfE service level agreement, in addition to new groups. Targets are subject to change and are not fixed. 
• Recruit and retain support group leaders to develop their peer support groups.
• Assist with the delivery of training to support group leaders and groups to become self-sufficient.
• Develop strong boundaries and positive relationships with support group leaders – building resilience, empowerment and community.
• Support established groups (including independent) in your area to access support group leader networks and training (this includes visiting groups in person) to build a peer community. 
• Follow (and where appropriate support further development off) the service blueprint to develop sustainable peer support groups.
• Collaborate with the Peer Support Hub team to provide a joined-up and positive user experience for kinship carers.
• Manage special interest groups and regional online groups as required, transitioning to ‘Hub’ team for sustainability and work with partners. 

Service quality, development and data management:

• Accurately record all recruitment, contact information and volunteer case management in Salesforce in line with service framework and data protection requirements.
• Ensure accurate data entry in Salesforce to support service performance, evaluation and learning.
• Provide regular reports to ensure targets and SLA are met for the service.
• Support continuous development and improvement of the service (new systems and processes) as required.

· Proven experience in reaching and establishing strong relationships with hidden or underserved communities in person.

· Significant experience developing peer support communities.

· Proven experience of recruiting, managing, training and supporting volunteers in community settings with an emphasis on understanding and working with vulnerable volunteers.

· Proven experience of ensuring outcomes and impacts of services are evidenced through high-quality data collection.

· Evidence of developing and delivering training/support to volunteers, based on the needs of service users (in this case kinship carers).

· Strong facilitation skills and essential experience of peer support or user-led groups with charity beneficiaries.

· Proven experience of using a customer relationship management system effectively (we use Salesforce).

· In-depth understanding of safeguarding particularly around vulnerable families.

· Excellent communication and engagement skills, with good attention to detail.

BSAVA is the professional body that serves veterinary surgeons and nurses who treat companion animals and it exists to enable the veterinary profession and professionals thrive.

Reporting into the CEO and as a key member of the Leadership Team, this critical role will be responsible for the development of effective financial strategy to deliver the organisations strategic ambitions, whilst also supporting the strategic development, performance measurement and the optimisation of the Charity’s income.

The organisation:

Founded in 1957, BSAVA has gone from strength to strength to enable the community of small animal veterinary professionals to develop their knowledge and skills through leading-edge education, scientific research and collaboration. BSAVA currently boasts over 10,000 members, the majority of whom work in practice as veterinary surgeons or veterinary nurses, and there are several exciting projects on the horizon as part of their new strategic plan, of which this Head of Finance and Shared Services will play a leading role.

The key duties of this Head of Finance & Shared Services role are as follows:

• Lead the statutory audit process and production of the Annual Report, co-ordinating the completion of year end processes.
• Attend Board and Audit and Risk Committee meetings, providing clear and accurate reports to enable them to assess the associations financial, compliance and risk management situation. 
• Develop a long-term financial strategy that will support the charity’s ambition for growth.
• Support the Chief Executive and LT with new business development and change management initiatives. 
• Oversee the preparation of annual budgets and 3-year forecasts in accordance with the timescales laid down by the CEO.
• Make recommendations to further develop the Shared Services function in order to optimise resources and enhance the efficient running of the Association.
• Support the LT in development and review of business models, commercial proposals, optimising pricing strategies and analysis of potential revenue.

The successful candidate will have:

• Qualified as a finance professional or be qualified by demonstrable experience.
• Finance experience at a senior level, guiding executing and non-executive colleagues.
• Experience of producing and managing organisations budgets and forecasts.
• Experience of financial modelling and development of KPIs.
• Line management experience.
• Ideally, experience of charity accounting including preparing statutory accounts for audit.
• Experience of managing other business areas and support functions would also be an advantage.
• Ability to contribute effectively and constructively as a member of the Leadership Team
