Who we’re looking for
We are seeking a talented and experienced communications strategist and writer, with a background in sustainable development, science or health communications, to join our Communications Services team. You will be educated to degree level – if you have a postgraduate qualification in a subject area relevant to our work, even better. We are looking for someone with a passion for making a difference through communications, with a friendly, outgoing personality. You’ll be interested in engaging strategically with international development and research projects to showcase results and enhance the impact of their work. Your role will include:
- Developing and implementing communications, campaign and event strategies: you will develop and drive forward strategies and implementation plans to help organisations define their communications objectives and translate them into achievable outcomes.
- Writing and advising clients: you will write (and edit) copy for a wide range of materials and subject areas, and provide clients with advice on communications materials and approaches to best meet their needs.

Working at Scriptoria
The role offers the opportunity to get involved in a variety of projects, gain experience in different areas and contribute to the diverse range of services that Scriptoria provides.
Our staff have the flexibility to work wholly or partly from home or from our office in Tooting, South-West London, during regular operational hours (08:30–17:30). If working from home, staff must have a working environment suitable for holding video-call meetings with clients. Wherever you work, you will interact regularly with other team members to share skills and exchange ideas.
You will have 25 days of annual leave per year, plus public holidays.
Key skills and experience
- A degree in a subject area relevant to our work. A postgraduate qualification would be an advantage.
- A minimum of five years’ experience, together with a track record in developing communications, campaign and event strategies, and advising clients on their implementation.
- Experience in presenting to groups and facilitating workshops. Enthusiasm to travel would be a big advantage.
- Extensive experience as a writer in the areas of sustainable development, science or health, with a demonstrated flair for writing compelling, engaging text that effectively communicates key messages.
- A proven ability to develop and work to a brief, analyse and synthesise source materials and convey complex and technical information to non-specialist audiences.
- Excellent attention to detail, and the ability to copyedit and proofread documents.

Trainee Project Worker roles are based in supported accommodation services, where we aim to prepare clients for independence and positively impact their quality of life. These services provide temporary and longer-term accommodation for people who may have associated difficulties relating to mental health, complex support needs and trauma. In this role, you will be working on a shift rota, which will include working early shifts: 8am - 3:30pm/4pm and /or late shifts: 3:30pm - 10:30pm and could include some weekends and bank holidays.
We may also have Trainee Floating Support Worker roles, working to support a caseload of people who are at greater risk of homelessness with a focus on addressing housing-related issues, improving quality of life and promoting independence. Your support will include help with benefits issues, mental and physical ill health, hoarding and antisocial behaviours within a recovery framework and structured key working assessment. This work will involve regular travel in London, visiting clients in their own homes or other locations.
As a Trainee, you will be working in a varied and rewarding role amongst a committed and supportive team. The training programme will teach you how to provide this support to clients, enabling them to achieve the objectives they have collaboratively created in their support and action plans. You will also assist clients with routine tasks and their goals relating to training, education, or employment.
As a Trainee, you will receive increments to your salary at six months and at nine months (subject to successful completion of the Trainee Programme).

About the role:
This role is based in London and offers hybrid working both from home and our office in Singer Street. As an Independent Domestic Violence Advocate for Male Victims you will:
- implement effective ways of working with male victims and those supporting them to increase safety and reduce harm
- provide a high-quality, front-line service to male victims of domestic abuse, delivering a premium service prioritised according to risk, primarily focusing on victim/survivors aged 16+
- initiate, develop, maintain and monitor multi-agency links through procedures and protocols to keep safety central to all services for victims of domestic abuse

You will need:

- Understand the principles of risk assessment, safety planning and risk management for victims of domestic abuse and their children

Key Responsibilities
Delivery
- Help to review, update and co-develop health information content for the lupus community in line with our schedule, maintaining a high standard of evidence-based information production, following appropriate criteria for accreditation by professional organisations. This could include support with research, liaising with external experts for input and review, copy writing, proof reading and production (including design).
- Work with colleagues, healthcare professionals and people with lived experience of lupus to codevelop high quality information resources.
- Communicate health-related updates, such as website articles on changes to access to vaccinations.
- Respond to emailed queries related to lupus and related conditions, health system access, treatments, etc.
- Support with co-ordinating the production of the charity’s magazine 3 times a year.

akt is the UK’s national LGBTQ Youth Homelessness charity. We provide safe homes, mentoring, and support to ensure that no young person needs to choose between a safe home and being who they are. 24% of young people facing homelessness in the UK identify as LGBT (National Scoping of LGBT Youth Homelessness, akt, 2015) and 78% of LGBTQ+ young people cited an absence of family support (The LGBTQ+ Youth Homelessness Report, akt, 2021). The charity was founded in 1989 and operates service centres in London, Manchester, Newcastle, Bristol and works online through a Digital Service to offer support to young people outside of our four office regions. akt works with over 800 vulnerable young people a year providing both face to face and online assistance.
Job Summary
There are two roles available on temporary four month contracts:
- one London-based (three hours per fortnight, Tuesday 5.30pm - 8.30pm); and
- one Manchester-based (three hours per month, Wednesday 5.30pm - 8.30pm).
There is a high percentage of Queer, Trans and Intersex People of Colour (QTIPOC) service users at akt who this role will directly support. Therefore, this role will require someone who has in-depth knowledge of the lived experiences of QTIPOC young people.
The role will involve supporting the provision of youth engagement activities to a diverse range of QTIPOC young people aged 16-25 who are homeless, at risk of homelessness or living in a hostile environment. Our focus is in maintaining our ability to provide the highest service possible, giving our young people the opportunities to access peer support, community engagement and life skills. Overall, we aim to support LGBTQ+ young people into safe accommodation and work or education and prevent them from becoming homeless again in the future.
Our Youth Engagement programme provides opportunities for young people accessing our services to:
- build skills and confidence to reach their own goals and objectives;
- access an affirming community of LGBTQ+ peers; and

Background to the role
The Good Food Institute Europe (GFI Europe) is at the forefront of the movement to transform meat production in order to solve some of the world’s biggest problems, from climate change and global hunger, to antibiotic resistance and animal suffering.
We work with scientists, businesses and policymakers to make plant-based and cultivated meat (grown directly from cells) delicious, affordable and accessible. We are at an exciting stage in our growth and are looking for a Deputy Head of Operations (People) to manage our growing people operations team and projects.
How you will make a difference
Your role will enable inclusive, empowering and efficient people operations workflows at GFI Europe. Reporting to the Head of Operations, your work will fall under the following categories:
- Manage the People Operations function, including line managing two team members.
- Develop an inclusive, empowering and engaging People Operations strategy that ensures best practices around management principles, professional development, diversity, equity and inclusion, and other aspects of a healthy culture are adopted.
- Track team morale and culture by coordinating team engagement surveys and by listening to team members’ needs from when they join the organisation and all along their employee journey with us, taking steps where necessary to improve the employee experience.
- Be the main contact person for the GFI Europe team to discuss HR-related needs or concerns.
- Oversee solid HR management by:
- Ensuring GFI Europe’s compensation and benefits remain competitive.
- Creating and/or periodically reviewing and improving People Operations policies and addressing specific HR needs and requirements of our growing team.
- Being the point of contact with payroll and employment legal advisors across 7+ countries, ensuring our employment terms and conditions are up to date and that payroll and employment terms are correctly processed.
- Staying up to date with national laws impacting employment, benefits and other regulations to ensure we remain compliant across all regions.
- Procuring and overseeing the work of People Operations service providers and consultants where applicable.
- Enable a smooth experience across the employee lifecycle by:
- Positioning GFI Europe’s employer brand to keep attracting and retaining talent.
- Planning recruitment cycles in collaboration with the Operations team and other departments, and signing off on assessment design.
- Coordinating performance / probationary review cycles and where support is needed, providing coaching and counselling to team members and managers on matters related to performance.
- Ensuring learning & development budgets and activities meet the needs of the team and organisation.
- Perform other tasks as required as a member of our small, dynamic team.
Who we’re looking for
You must have:
- A passion for GFI’s philosophy and mission.
- Proven experience in managing smooth, inclusive and effective People Operations such as HR admin, recruitment, performance management, learning & development, etc.
- Ability to balance high-level responsibilities (management, strategy) with practical execution, and to prioritise what needs to be solved, by when and how.
- Excellent people skills: high emotional intelligence, the ability to listen deeply and communicate effectively, to build and maintain trust and to work well with colleagues and stakeholders across multiple cultures.
- A high degree of organisation and attention to detail: finding enjoyment in devising and managing effective processes, fixing problems, and ensuring accurate, high-quality administration.
- Compassionate people management style: proven line management experience and ability to get the best out of colleagues, ideally in a remote environment.
- Comfort with complex, often ambiguous workflows where you need to approach and problem-solve new challenges creatively.
- Commitment to DEI principles: applying a diversity, equity and inclusion lens to all People Operations workflows, and maintaining our welcoming and supportive culture.
- Expertise in HR, employment compliance and payroll management within at least one country in Europe.
- Tech savviness: comfort using various software tools and platforms in a remote workplace, and a willingness to learn new systems. Training and support will be provided.
- Language skills: ability to work effectively in English.

Benefits and the fine print
- Terms of employment: Full-time (38 hours/week), flexible working hours.
- Location: We can consider applicants based in Belgium, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain or the UK. This is a remote role, and you will be able to work from home, or we are happy to consider supporting costs for co-working to enable you to work from an office if you wish. The whole GFI Europe team aims to get together in person approximately twice per year for around 3-5 days at a time. Travel costs will be covered by GFI Europe within our travel policy.
- Salary and benefits: The salary and benefits package for all of our roles are researched and benchmarked based on similar nonprofit roles in the country/location of hire. For reference, full-time range (total amounts received in gross salary plus benefits including home-working allowance) would be for:
- The Netherlands: €58,320-€69,984 (range includes holiday pay specific for the Netherlands)

Reporting to the People Business Partner, the (role) will:
