The finance team here at The Big Issue Group are looking for a Assistant Financial Accountant to lead on month end processing and quarterly reporting for our group of four trading companies. You will also:
- Be a key player in setting the right tone for the accounting process within the Big Issue Group's four trading companies so that they are both robust and simple.
- Providing detailed explanations to the business on its expenditure.
- Writing commentary on quarterly P&L, balance sheet movements and cash flow statements.
- Continual review of financial policies, processes, and controls with a view to improvement
- Work across all areas of the finance teams remit across the Group.
You will hold an ACCA qualification (or finalist), have experience in a similar financial accounting role (ideally in another social enterprise) and have a good working knowledge of taxation, relevant legislation and accounting systems (preferably Sage).
This is a hands on role working closely with the Head of Accounting and joining a team that has a commitment to staff development and will actively support dedicated team members in their career development.

Workplace details
Whilst this role will be based at the Big Issue Group Head Office in Finsbury Park, the finance team are mostly based remotely - currently visiting the office once per month and working the rest of the time from home. The successful candidate would be welcome to work in the office more frequently however if they desired. They should also be prepared to visit the office more frequently if the role requires.

Our client is looking for someone who is a ‘doer’, a technical hands-on cyber security professional who has energy and a willingness to respond to a fast-paced working environment.
The IT Consultant with have overall technical responsibility for the charity’s network and telecommunications infrastructure, core and cloud applications and cyber security. Ensure that network uptime is maximised, network threats are detected and mitigated against and that technical team resources are managed accordingly. Your responsibilities will include implementing SLAs so that teams are working on specific targets, delivering a phone system project, and reviewing and recommending the current SD+ system, a regular program of PEN test and other cyber security arrangements. You will take charge of all cybersecurity initiatives within the charity’s IT department and serve as the primary point of contact for all IT matters, you will collaborate closely with the Head of IT and other IT team members, participating in relevant meetings and providing crucial information to committees and the Board of Trustees.
The ideal candidate will have significant experience in Cyber Security and Support Desk Service Management. We are looking for a highly motivated ‘hands-on’ self-starter, able to work autonomously to see plans through to conclusion. Along with a strong understanding of IT security strategies and proficiency in various IT tools, you should possess strong interpersonal and operational skills. You need to be an excellent communicator, capable of engaging and influencing both technical and non-technical audiences collaboratively.

About Women in Prison
Women in Prison is a national, women-led, feminist organisation. We deliver front line support to women harmed by the criminal justice system, through our work in prisons, in the community and ‘through the prison gate’ as they resettle back into their communities. We also campaign for systems change that addresses the root causes of offending, reduces the harmful impact of prison, and creates workable, community-based alternatives to imprisonment.
Job Description:
Duties and Key Responsibilities:
- Client Care: provide high-quality, trauma-responsive advocacy and emotional and practical support to women in contact with, or at risk of being in contact with the criminal justice system
- Monitoring and Evaluation: accurately document all client interaction on Women in Prison’s case management database, working in line with Women in Prison’s case management policy at all times
- Communication: develop and utilise a variety of strategies to communicate effectively with women using our services, colleagues, external organisations, stakeholders and the general public

Purpose of the job
We are looking for a passionate and experienced Assistant to support two of our fantastic directors who have not had in-house support before.
The position will be split 50/50 between the Director of External Relations and Income Generation, and the Director of Network Delivery. Each director will require a different level of support, and they will work the post holder to devise what best suits their individual needs.
The ideal candidate will be highly organised, proactive, and possess excellent communication skills. This role requires a strong ability to manage multiple priorities and a keen attention to detail, ensuring the smooth functioning of daily activities and long-term projects.
Key responsibilities

Provide high-level administrative support to the Director of Network Delivery and Director of Income Generation and Strategic Communications, including managing calendars, scheduling meetings, coordinating travel arrangements, and managing the departmental credit card expenses and reporting.

Provide email inbox management support to the Director of Network Delivery.

Serve as the primary point of contact between executives and internal/external stakeholders.

Prepare, review, and edit documents, reports, and presentations for meetings and events.

Organise and maintain electronic and physical filing systems, ensuring data accuracy and confidentiality.

Coordinate team meetings, including preparing agendas, taking minutes, and following up on action items.

Handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality at all times.

Perform other duties as assigned to support the CEO Office, executive team and the strategic goals of the charity.

Proven experience in an Executive Assistant/administrative role, or similar.

Job Purpose:
To support the recruitment and admission of new volunteers, promoting volunteering opportunities and completing background checks.
Key Responsibilities
- Ask for and check references for new volunteers
- Coordinate and attend volunteer recruitment events, such as Universities; organise volunteers and staff to support
- Follow up with prospective volunteers to encourage them to apply
- Work with the Communications team to promote volunteering opportunities online
- Coordinate and run regular information sessions for prospective volunteers to explain the volunteering opportunities
- Initiate contact with volunteers and trainees to process DBS/PVG/police vetting checks as required
- Check the status of volunteers who are part of the relevant Update Service
- Proactively monitor and follow up on the progress of checks to keep on top of weekly targets
- Coordinate video calls to verify ID documents, checking documents with utmost attention to detail
- Handle queries on checks, and troubleshoot cases such as missing documentation or anything outside the accepted DBS/PVG/police vetting procedure
- Liaise with our selected external provider for any queries
- Escalate disclosures to a panel for review, if required
- Accurately update outcome information for each volunteer
- Ensure the confidentiality of volunteer information is maintained and securely discard volunteer documentation once checks are complete
- Utilise tools such as Jira, Salesforce and effectively
- Provide regular progress reports to the Volunteer Admissions Lead and Head of Volunteers
- Undertake other ad-hoc tasks commensurate with the role as necessary
Essential Criteria
