The Board Chair is responsible for providing leadership to the Board of Directors and ensuring the effective governance of the Northamptonshire County Football Association (‘the Association’). The Chair holds the Board accountable for the Association’s strategic performance, providing inclusive leadership and ensuring compliance with governance best practices.

The Chair also serves as an ambassador for the Association, fostering strong relationships with stakeholders, including The FA, local football communities, and external partners. The CEO reports to the Board through the Chair, who is responsible for overseeing the CEO’s performance and professional development.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide strategic leadership to the Board, ensuring clarity of purpose and direction.
• Ensure the Board maintains a clear division between governance responsibilities and operational management.
• Lead the Board in setting, reviewing, and approving the Association’s strategic plan, financial plan, and annual budget.
• Set the agenda for Board meetings in collaboration with the CEO.
• Chair Board meetings effectively, ensuring all Directors contribute meaningfully to discussions.
• Evaluate the performance of the Board and its individual Directors, supporting their development.
• Appoint Chairs for Board committees in consultation with members.
• Manage the CEO’s performance, conducting regular reviews and providing professional support.
• Act as a mentor and coach to the CEO, facilitating leadership growth and operational excellence.
• Address any concerns raised by the CEO and ensure a healthy working relationship between the Board and executive leadership.
• Act as the primary representative of the Association at FA meetings, local football events, and external engagements.
• Build and maintain effective relationships with The FA, sponsors, grassroots football clubs, and other key stakeholders.
• Lead the Board in setting and maintaining EDI objectives aligned with The FA’s governance framework.
• Ensure diverse and inclusive representation within Board decisionmaking and strategy development.
• Foster a culture where equality, diversity, and inclusion are embedded in the Association’s policies and practices.

PERSONAL SPECIFICATION

Essential Experience:

• Leadership experience at Board level, preferably within sports governance or non-profit sectors.
• Demonstrated success in strategic planning, risk management, and financial oversight.
• Strong understanding of corporate governance, compliance, and regulatory responsibilities.
• Experience in chairing meetings, ensuring balanced and productive discussions.

Essential Skills & Knowledge:

Trustee

Role description

St Albans & District Foodbank is looking for a Trustee. We currently have seven active Trustees and are looking for enthusiastic and talented people to join our Board.

The Foodbank serves the local community providing emergency food for those facing crisis. In the last 12 months we provided over 14,000 food parcels. We distribute food via ten weekly distribution centres that are run around the district by our committed volunteers. We currently have 7 part-time staff and over 130 active volunteers.  We are more than a Foodbank as we offer wellbeing, signposting and advocacy services, both directly and in conjunction with other agencies.

Trustee meetings are held 6 times per year, typically on the third Tuesday of alternate months between 4.00 and 6.30pm.  Trustees are expected to undertake additional work for the charity between meetings, subject to their availability and skill set, for example representing the Charity at local events or with partnership organisations.

The Trustee role is voluntary and unremunerated, though reasonable expenses can be reimbursed.

Being a Trustee

The challenge of being a Trustee requires, amongst other things:

• ability to understand management information; 

• the ability to share and embrace knowledge and specialisms and 

• an understanding of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship;

• strong communication skills and an ability to contribute effectively at meetings and

• a strong commitment to the objectives of the Foodbank.

Trustees have collective responsibility for the governance of the organisation and for all decisions made by the Board.  They set the strategic direction for the organisation, ensuring alignment with the Foodbank’s values and are responsible for setting organisational policy, defining goals, agreeing the financial plan, evaluating performance and ensuring that strong relationships are maintained between the Trustees and the Management and Volunteer Team.

Hi there, we’re a charity called Local Welcome. We support local people in joining together as a team of Leaders in order to run Local Welcome meals in their local area on weekends.

Local Welcome meals are open to all - they’re the sort of places where strangers become friends! Some group members will have been born in your local area, some new, some seeking sanctuary, or refugees. 

As a member of the Leader team, you’ll be supporting your group in cooking and eating a delicious meal from scratch. No cooking skills are required - our simple recipe steps have that covered!

4-6 hours per month - this includes 4 hours leading on the day of the meal, and a couple of hours of prep and organising which is split between leaders before and after the meal. 4. Keeping in touch with your fellow leaders and the Local Welcome team between meals - e.g. to share your availability for the next meal
5. Creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for your group members and fellow leaders

What we do

We are a well established and respected creative charity who believes that anyone can enjoy good mental health and wellbeing by engaging in creative activities.

We provide regular art and craft sessions for children and adults with a wide variety of needs.

We extend our reach by providing sessions for partners, including local schools, Southend in Sight, Sanctuary Housing and South Essex Homes.

We engage with the wider community by providing art and craft activities at local events, by offering volunteering and employment opportunities, and holding exhibitions.

Who we need

We need people with experience of finance, HR, fundraising, event management, digital engagement, PR, partnerships, and/or delivering creative services.

We need creative thinkers who can work collaboratively to provide the leadership that The Art Ministry needs to achieve its strategic objective of helping even more members of the local community improve their mental health and wellbeing by engaging in creative activities.

You will need to commit to at least 4 hours a month, including at least 4 trustee meetings a year.

Our fundraising team leaders have the exciting and varied role of inspiring our fundraising volunteers to plan and deliver local fundraising events. Using their passion and imagination, they oversee a small team of fundraising volunteers who come together to raise the vital funds needed to cover costs such as veterinary bills and food. Thornleigh Camphill Communities is looking for enthusiastic and dynamic Trustees who are going to help the Charity take its next steps. Thornleigh Camphill Communities is based in Thornbury (South Gloucestershire) and we provide support in a supported living context, day opportunities and housing for adults with learning disabilities, autism and mental health support needs.

This is an exciting time to get involved with the Trustee Board as we review our long-term strategy and plan our development. As a Trustee, you will work alongside the CEO, management team and representative beneficiaries to set the strategic direction, providing us with insight and expertise.

We are particularly interested in candidates with a background in areas such as finance, HR, fundraising, the Camphill Movement and the social care sector, but this is not essential. We are really interested in hearing from individuals who want to make a difference to the lives of our residents, bringing a variety of skills, experience and backgrounds.

The Trustee Board meets in person four times per year, usually Wednesdays during office hours, in addition to ad-hoc requirements.

How you will be supported?

You will be fully supported by the Volunteer Coordinator at NEWMIND providing shadowing, training, safeguarding and will be available to answer any questions and concerns.

You will be part of the NEWMIND Flint Library drop-in, providing essential wellbeing services to the local community.

Main tasks 

You will be working alongside other volunteers and paid staff respectively to cater to the communities needs, provide a sense of wellbeing, serve light snacks and refreshments as well as assisting with opening/closing the venue and appropriate cleaning.

Skills and experience 

No experience necessary.

You will gain skills and experience while engaged with the drop-in sessions including time management, social skills, safeguarding, assertiveness, conflict resolution and wellbeing awareness.

Our Flint Library drop in takes place every Friday between 12:00 and 2:00 at:
