Sufra is an innovative charity in Northwest London that prevents hunger, fights poverty and builds community.

With the help of our volunteers and partners, we coordinate a network of food banks and community kitchens, as well as a social supermarket and café. We’re looking for a highly skilled and experienced public affairs professional to join our small staff team to lead our public affairs activity and to grow the influence of the Children and Young People’s Mental Health Coalition. This is an exciting opportunity to influence positive change at a time of significant policy and political developments.

As Public Affairs Advisor, you will lead on the Coalition’s public affairs and influencing activity. You will be responsible for influencing the Government’s policy and legislative agenda relating to children and young people’s mental health, forging relationships with the new Parliament, and ensuring the Coalition’s views are heard across Westminster and Whitehall.

With over 370 members across the country, our Coalition has a significant potential to extend its influence. Many of our existing members are well placed to influence at a local level through working with their NHS Integrated Care Boards, councils and MPs, but do not always feel confident carrying out public affairs work. As Public Affairs Adviser, you will work with our members to upskill them to carry out their own influencing activity through a series of ‘Learning and Development’ workshops.

You will have Public Affairs experience of developing successful strategies to influence legislation or government policy, have strong knowledge of political systems and processes, have existing networks and contacts, and feel passionate about creating positive change for babies, children and young people.

This is a new role within the Coalition staff team and is generously supported by the Prudence Trust and the Hollick Family Foundation.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the development and delivery of the Coalition’s parliamentary influencing strategy.
• Build and maintain relationships with Parliamentarians and other key stakeholders, such as civil servants and special advisers.
• Lead the Coalition’s engagement with Parliament and Government, ensuring strong systems are in place to capture and track engagement.
• Monitor and respond to political and legislative developments affecting our work, making recommendations for responses, and proactively seeking opportunities to further the Coalition’s objectives.
• Provide political intelligence to the staff team, Chair and our members, and help to prepare staff for parliamentary activity as appropriate.
• Produce high quality written briefings, reports and other materials that communicate our messages clearly and effectively to a parliamentary audience. This will also include contributing to other Coalition communications such as media responses, newsletters, blogs, and social media posts.
• Plan and deliver events aimed at political stakeholders, for example, parliamentary events and roundtables.
• Participate in collaborations with other charities for shared influencing activities, for example the Fund the Hubs campaign and the Future Minds campaign.  
• Support work on legislation as appropriate, including drafting amendments.

Working with members

• Regularly engage with members to understand their influencing priorities and to gather insight to help inform the Coalition’s wider influencing priorities.
• Connect Coalition members to decision makers and help spotlight their work, for example, helping to organise visits to services.
• Provide advice to members on engaging with their local decision-makers such as their local MP, Integrated Care Boards and Councillors.
• Deliver workshops with members to share information and skills related to influencing and public affairs activity. For example, this could include delivery of sessions on influencing local systems, working with the government, and legislative processes.  

General

• Work closely with the Coalition Lead, the Policy and Public Affairs Assistant, and Chair of the Coalition to develop and review priorities for the Coalition and support to drive these forwards. You will also be required to work closely with the staff at Centre for Mental Health.
• Support with the development and implementation of the Coalition’s work plan and projects.
• To undertake any other duties as reasonably required by the Coalition Lead or Chair of the Coalition

The Role

As Risk Manager, you'll play a crucial role in embedding a proactive risk management culture within SNG, ensuring that risks are effectively identified, assessed, and mitigated. • Leading the approach across SNG to create a culture of consistent and high-quality risk management
• Supporting the organisation in implementing our framework for risk management roles, responsibilities and decision-making
• Supporting stakeholders to identify, assess, and manage risks across the organisation, ensuring sufficient and appropriate mitigation measures are in place
• Supporting the organisation with expert advice on risk management matters and emerging risks
• Embedding practices throughout SNG to ensure risks are reliably identified, assessed, prioritised, and managed
• Collating and analysing risk data to support the Head of Risk to identify trends, insights, and areas for improvement, as well as providing input into senior leadership reports
• Developing and delivering workshops and training sessions to enhance risk awareness and capabilities across the business

What we're looking for

You should have previous experience in a similar role, with demonstrable technical knowledge and skills in Risk management. A background in housing is not essential but ideally you'll have gained experience from a large organisation with a variety of risk areas to consider.  

You'll also have:

• Experience in supporting the implementation of a robust risk management framework
• Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels
• Clear communication skills, ensuring technical information is presented clearly and concisely
• An agile approach, confident to work successfully on multiple projects at different stages and effectively prioritise tasks
• Experience in designing and / or delivering risk management awareness and training programmes is desirable

Major Donor Fundraising Manager

Position: 1934 Major Gifts Manager 

Location: This role is nominally based at our site based in Sidmouth, Devon – an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty – and we offer hybrid working. We are keen to make the role work for you, and will consider fully remote/home working and flexible working patterns, where required.

About the Role

As Major Gifts Manager, you will provide expertise in Major Gifts, successfully developing the programme in line with agreed annual targets and our Fundraising Strategy. You will work closely with the Head of Major Gifts to evolve and continuously improve the major gift activity, bringing an integrated approach across the charity to deliver the most donor-centric activity, whilst continuously evaluating performance.

Your principal duties and responsibilities will include:

• Inputting into and delivering the Major Gifts Strategy and improving the Major Gift portfolio and performance.

• Delivering and reporting on agreed projects, fundraising targets and KPIs.

• Proactively identifying and delivering new fundraising donors and income growth opportunities within Major Gifts.

• Leading on selected donor cultivation and stewardship projects to support sustainable income growth in Major Gifts, including events and other opportunities;

• Personally securing, managing and stewarding a portfolio of active Mid-Value, Major Donors and Charitable Trusts, forging and maintaining strong and enduring relationships.

About You

With experience of managing, cultivating, and delivering major gifts, and of planning future major gifts pipeline, you will have a proven track record of meeting and exceeding personal fundraising targets.

• A demonstrable record of building excellent stewardship and successful relationships with supporters at all levels including high net worth supporters, charitable trusts and other major donors.

• Well-developed knowledge of monitoring, evaluation, and interpretation of programme performance.

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a People Administrator to join our friendly small team on a 12 month fixed term contract. This is a hybrid role; 2-3 days per week in the office with the option of remaining days working from home/remote.

The successful candidate will ideally have:

• Previous administration experience gained in a medium to large sized organisation responsible for a variety of tasks.
• Excellent time management and the ability to effectively prioritise tasks to meet required deadlines
• Awareness of data protection and an understanding of how to manage confidential information.

Key aspects of the job will be:

• Assist the transactional People Team activities at all stages of the employee life cycle, including recruitment, onboarding, probations, reference & flexible working requests, changes to terms and conditions paperwork, etc.
• Management and maintenance of HR systems. 100% accuracy of data within all People Team systems (full training will be given).
• To take notes and provide support with formal investigations as required.
• Produce accurate and timely reports, including holiday, sickness absence reporting and HR metrics.
• Manage the People Team HR requests mailbox, supporting operational queries and escalate to the People Managers & Advisors as required.

The Role

The Educational Psychologist at the Education Hub will provide specialist psychological assessments and trauma-informed interventions to children and young people affected by the Grenfell Tragedy. The role focuses on helping students overcome barriers to learning, supporting emotional resilience, and working closely with families and schools to enhance their wellbeing.

You will:

• Conduct psychological assessments to evaluate cognitive, emotional, and behavioural development.

• Provide one-to-one and group interventions to support emotional regulation and resilience.

• Deliver trauma-informed approaches to schools, ensuring students receive the best educational support.

• Offer expert advice to teachers, parents, and other professionals on how to foster inclusive learning environments.

• Support students during key transitions, from early years to post-16 pathways, equipping them with lifelong learning strategies.

• Develop and lead training programmes for schools, families, and professionals on mental health, trauma recovery, and behaviour management.

About You

• Postgraduate qualification in Educational Psychology and registered with the HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council).

• Strong understanding of trauma-informed practices and experience working with children affected by adverse experiences.

• Expertise in conducting psychological assessments and developing Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs) in line with UK SEND guidelines.

• Ability to provide strategic advice to schools on behaviour, learning support, and emotional wellbeing.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a passion for working with diverse communities.

• Culturally competent, with an ability to tailor interventions to meet the needs of families from diverse backgrounds.

About the organisation: 

The Grenfell 'Education Hub' will open later this year to serve those most affected by the Grenfell Tower tragedy. The hub will provide educational support to children and young people, their families, and local schools. 

A consultation process in 2023 and 2024 about the needs of the community and the bereaved and survivors led to proposals for an educational ‘hub’.  This will comprise a wide range of professionals including four specialist teachers, an Educational Psychologist, a Speech and Language Therapist, an Occupational Therapist, a Careers Coordinator, and a Family Support Worker. Their time will be divided between direct work with children and families in the ‘Hub’, and support for local schools. The activity of the hub aims to; 

• Provide good quality educational support to as many children and young people as possible

• Build the skills and confidence of children and young people, their families, and education staff in local schools

• Develop strong relationships with those most affected by the Grenfell Tower fire

• Accurately assess its impact

Personal Outlook: The post-holder must have a strong commitment to the voluntary sector and a desire to make a real difference to the lives of asylum seekers and refugees. This role is suited for someone target – driven, with excellent writing skills and great attention to detail. They will be working closely with the CEO, an external fundraiser, the Welcome Centre and Operations Lead, as well as our Finance, Admin and Communications officer. The post holder will be responsible for building on a strong foundation of support from Trusts, Foundations and other grant-making bodies, will cultivate and develop strong relationships with grant-givers to grow our income and support our organisational aims.

About Borderlands fundraising: So far Borderlands’ grant fundraising work has been led by a freelance fundraiser working 3-4 days a month (“Grants and Trusts Fundraiser” in the organisational chart). The Fundraising Manager will work in partnership with them and divide the role and responsibilities according to experience and capacity. Currently, most of our income is from grants; our key funders include the Henry Smith Charity, Garfield Weston Foundation, John James Foundation, Bristol Impact Fund and Nisbet Trust. This is the first time Borderlands is recruiting for an in-house fundraiser role. In addition to working on grant applications and reports, the manager will support the Finance, Admin and Communication Officer with local giving and developing corporate partnerships.
