We are looking for a proactive Workforce Projects Officer with organisational, people and coordination skills to join us here at the Royal College of Radiologists (RCR) to help us achieve our goal of growing the workforce in each of our clinical specialities, radiology and oncology, to enable patients to receive timely diagnosis and treatment.
Sitting in a high performing and dynamic Workforce Initiatives team, the Workforce Projects Officer will work collaboratively to establish feasible and impactful new initiatives to grow the workforce, developing those with the greatest potential impact to become business as usual. You will have strong project management experience and the ability to develop effective working relationships to contribute to several exciting projects covering UK training and curricula, upskilling allied medical and healthcare professionals and developing new pathways for globally trained doctors to join the UK workforce. As the Workforce Projects Officer you will be at the heart of the initiatives that ensure that the radiology and oncology workforce is well-supported and future ready.

What you’ll do:
- Support the development and implementation of changes to specialty curricula as necessary.
- Support annual recruitment campaign into the specialities.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive and broad knowledge of the key workforce issues facing both specialties.
- Proactively undertake research and identify potential opportunities and area for development to grow the workforce.
- Undertake planning, monitoring and delivery of workforce projects as agreed, ensuring they are delivered on time, to a high standard and within budget.
What you’ll need:
- Significant experience in planning and coordinating a diverse range of activities and projects within a relevant context.
- Understanding of monitoring and evaluation within a project context.
- Detailed understanding (or the ability to acquire it) of UK and EU legislation and GMC regulations and procedures in relation to entry to GMC registers and the right to work in the UK.
- Ability to work collaboratively and build and sustain effective working relationships with a diverse range of colleagues, partners and stakeholders at all levels.
- Clear and analytical thinker with the ability to exercise sound initiative, judgement and discretion.

The Business and Office Manager is responsible for providing comprehensive business management for PAGE, covering business support and office management for the growing team of over 100 staff. The postholder will be required to quickly build effective working relationships with the central IT and Estates teams and ensuring that the division work within established LSE policies. Trusts and Foundations Manager
This is a new role at the DEC and developed as a key part of the DEC’s 2024-2029 strategy. The DEC has a wide range of established relationships with trusts and foundations, many of which give 6- and 7-figure sums to DEC appeals. The Trusts & Foundations Manager will be responsible for providing excellent stewardship to our portfolio of trusts and foundations.

Essential qualities, experience, knowledge, skills, include:
- A track record of securing five- and six-figure donations from trusts and foundations.
- Experience of successfully executing cultivation plans and retaining positive, key relationships with trusts and foundations on behalf of a charity.
- Experience of producing professional and compelling funding propositions for a trust and foundation audience.
- Experience of delivering highly engaging and personalised stewardship journeys and meeting the reporting requirements of charitable trusts and foundations
- High level of technical ability with appropriate computer software packages and data analysis and visualisation software [i.e., Microsoft Office, Adobe, Box].
- Proven financial acumen to comfortably evaluate financial information and manage budgets.
- High attention to detail and numerate accuracy in analysing and using data and financial information, to write coherent reports.

The British Academy – the UK’s national body for the humanities and social sciences - is seeking an Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Manager to join our Governance & Fellowship Office, providing key support in the delivery of the Academy’s overall EDI ambitions across all aspects of its work.
The Role
Working closely with the Academy’s senior management and workstream leads within other teams, you will oversee the delivery of the Academy’s ambitious EDI activity and strategy. With experience of supporting and delivering EDI initiatives in similar contexts (HE, research funding, fellowship bodies or the charity sector), you will be responsible for both overseeing current and ongoing EDI activity, as well as initiating new areas of work as needed.
You will need excellent communication skills, to be able to liaise and report internally across all levels but also to provide high-quality external communications and act as an ambassador for the Academy and its work.
You will have up-to-date knowledge of the statutory and best-practice contexts of EDI matters and be able to bring these to inform the Academy’s activity, acting as both internal adviser across Teams and the Fellowship and an ally for staff, researchers and the audiences we serve. This post sits within the Governance and Fellowship Office and reports directly to the Head of Fellowship Engagement & Governance. The Office also provides core Fellowship support, including their biannual meetings, nomination and election processes and a number of Fellowship engagement activities. Action for M.E. is the only charity in the UK providing direct support to children and adults with M.E. We provide vital support services, campaign for change and invest in ground-breaking research to help put an end to the ignorance, injustice and neglect experienced by people with M.E.
We are looking for an empathic and resilient individual to join a friendly and well-established team of part-time, remote-based Information and Support Officers, on a 12-month contract. The purpose of this role is to provide a holistic, client-centred, effective and efficient Information and Support Service to people affected by M.E. We do this primarily via outgoing calls made in response to triaged voicemail messages, and also via email.
You can choose to be home-based anywhere in the UK, work from our Bristol office, or a hybrid of the two.
Our Information and Support Service team has a deep understanding of the issues affecting people with M.E. and their family and carers. Some of our clients come to us in considerable distress so this work isn’t always easy, but it can be incredibly rewarding and is valued by our clients and the wider organisation.
You will need experience of working in a service providing information, advice, support or advocacy by telephone and email (or proven transferable skills). You will be experienced and confident at working with people in distress, and identifying and escalating safeguarding concerns, with the courage and emotional resilience to set and maintain realistic boundaries.
You can expect a warm welcome, daily huddles with your line-manager and peers, and a strong team culture of collaboration, self-care and peer support. Junior UX Designer
We’re looking for a talented and innovative UX Designer to join our team. You will assist in creating user-centred designs by understanding business requirements, user needs and technical constraints.

The Role
Reporting to the UX Manager, the Junior UX Designer role will help develop user-centred products and services across our website and other digital platforms, with a strong focus on accessibility, usability and engagement to support those impacted by stroke.
Key responsibilities will include:
· Design and prototyping – create wireframes, user flows, site maps etc. across multiple devices.
· User research – conduct and analyse user research including surveys, usability testing and A/B testing.

About You

British Society for Rheumatology (BSR) is a membership organisation that brings together expertise from across the rheumatology profession, harnessing a wide variety of experience and skills to ensure we’re supporting our members to the very best of our combined ability. Our mission is to support members to deliver the best care at all stages of the rheumatology care pathway, focusing on communication, transparency and collaboration.
Rheumatology Advances in Practice (RAP) is a fully Open Access journal that publishes quantitative and qualitative research on all areas of rheumatology and musculoskeletal practice. The Editor-in-Chief plays a key role in providing leadership, vision and strategy.
Job Purpose
The Editor-in-Chief will be appointed by BSR and the term of appointment will be for a five-year period. The Editor-in-Chief plays a key role in providing leadership, vision and strategy of the journal.
The Editor-in-Chief for Rheumatology Advances in Practice (RAP) will work with BSR to develop and produce a high-quality journal as well as establish its strategic direction. They will be involved in keeping the BSR Board of Trustees and RAP Editorial Board as well as leading the social media presence of the journal.
The Editor-in-Chief will have a general responsibility to the broader rheumatology, paediatric, primary care and allied health community in communicating clinical and scientific advances and standards, to promote their needs and aspirations by commissioning content and planning Special Issues that will enhance the field of research, care and support for these communities.
The Editor-in-Chief will work with the Society and Publisher to ensure that it continues to meet its objectives and set strategic goals for the journal.
The general strategic aims and objectives of the journal are:
- Ensure robust ethical standards and high-quality peer review
- Grow quality and number of submissions and publications yearly
- Ensure international recognition and reach of this journal by publishing high quality scientific and clinical research from across the world, and maintaining an engaged international Editorial Board
The journal is an open access, go to resource for the rheumatology community, with a scope that encompasses the wide range of disciplines involved in the field. We recently received an impressive first impact factor of 3.1 and we are excited to continue to grow the presence of the journal internationally. As the journal is fully online and open access, we have exciting opportunities to provide a multitude of publishing services for our authors, in line with the industry standards and experimenting with new ways of publishing. We listen to the voice of the authors, readers, reviewers and board members to understand their publishing needs and are excited to trial new projects. For example, we recently launched a new article type called an ‘Atlas Review’ with a unique offer of unlimited figures, allowing authors to illustrate their important discussions and not limiting the capabilities via text exclusively.
Quality and ethical standards
The Editor-in-Chief will ensure an appropriate balance of good quality articles, so the journal addresses the needs of the multidisciplinary rheumatology community. The Editor-in-Chief will see that the journal maintains the highest ethical and moral standards. The journal must be seen to be fair and unbiased towards individuals and provides a comprehensive and balanced view of the specialty. The journal is a member of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and committed to the highest ethical standards in journal publishing.
Conference attendance
The BSR, EULAR and ACR conferences provide an excellent opportunity to network with current and prospective authors, reviewers and Editorial Board members, as well as to commission new content for the journal and to provide social media updates. Conferences can also be used to arrange podcast and video interviews with authors, Board Members and colleagues. Delegate tickets to EULAR, the BSR Annual Conference and ACR will be covered by the British Society for Rheumatology and travel and hotel expenses will be covered as outlined in the budget.
Editorial support to the Editor-in-Chief
The Editor-in-Chief will receive day-to-day support for processing papers and managing peer review from the BSR in-house Editorial Office team, as well as support from contacts at Oxford University Press. Co-Editors, Associate Editors and wider Editorial Board also provide support and guidance to the Editor-in-Chief.
The relationship with the British Society for Rheumatology
The day-to-day contact with the BSR will be through the Editorial Office; however, the Editor-in-Chief will have several relationships as follows:
- BSR Journal Committee
The BSR Journal Committee will review and supply any feedback about overall advice given by the Editorial Board on the content, quality, standards, promotion, and performance of the journal to the Editor-in-Chief. The Journal committee is responsible for overseeing and approving the finances, scope and policies of Rheumatology Advances in Practice. The committee ensure actions decided upon further the work of the Journal and its development within the Journal’s aims and scope.
- BSR Board of Trustees, CEO and Senior Management Team
Advised by the BSR Senior Management Team, the BSR Board of Trustees approve the finances and strategy of the journal. Members of the BSR Senior Management Team attend the Journal Committee meetings. The Editor-in-Chief is asked to attend the BSR Board of Trustees on an ad hoc basis to provide an update on strategy and delivery.
- Rheumatology Editor-in-Chief
There is a transfer of papers model in place, so the Editor-in-Chief will have opportunity to collaborate with the Editor-in-Chief of Rheumatology to ensure the right papers are directed to the right journals by understanding the scope nd criteria of each journal. The journals share a X and instagram pages and marketing and promotional campaigns can be co-ordinated.
- Oxford University Press
OUP publish the journal on behalf of the BSR. OUP provides a full publishing experience with expert teams who advise and support on matters related to production, marketing and law, publishing ethics and strategy. The publisher, BSR and the EiC work closely to ensure the journal strategy is bespoke in order for Rheumatology Advances in Practice to maintain the current community, build the readership and authorship, and align with the visions and values of BSR. The Editor-in-Chief will meet OUP contacts at the Journal Committee Meeting and strategy planning meetings, as the publisher highly values the knowledge and experience of the Editor-in-Chief. Day to day communication will be via the Editorial Office to ensure smooth running of journal procedures.
Main responsibilities
- Work towards and guide the 5-year strategy for the journal
- Set strategic goals with BSR and the publisher to apply for further indexing, and maintain or grow the Impact Factor
- Work with BSR, the publisher and Editorial Board to target and commission reviews, original articles and special issues, and curate a sponsored supplement timeline
- Ensure that the journal’s scope is international and is reflected in its content
- Ensure the journal is produced to a high standard, and that it reflects the needs of the full spectrum of the rheumatology professional community
- Ensure rapid peer review with time to first decision within three weeks
- Ensure the Editorial Board reflects not only the various subspecialties within rheumatology but also includes a global spread
- Ensure that the journal is promoted online using a range of media to promote and raise awareness of the journal
- Participating in the digital offerings of the journal, such as hosting podcasts
Person Specification
- A PhD degree/ Doctor of Medicine, specialised in rheumatology, with a clinical science background and a strong understanding of recent trends and developments
- Demonstrable experience in an editorial role including, reviewer, editorial board member, associate editor or guest editor
- Adaptability to new publishing systems and software. Experience with the system, ScholarOne, would be beneficial to the role but is not a requirement as training can be provided

Festival Engagement Manager

The Festival Engagement Manager manages the development and delivery of content for the British Science Festival, Europe’s longest running science festival. They create unique events and cultural experiences which are relevant to our target audience of younger adults who are underrepresented in science. The Manager also supports on the delivery of projects for the UK Science Festivals Network (UKSFN), including managing the ‘Making Connections’ project which aims to engage young people from low socioeconomic backgrounds with science and research.
You will have knowledge and understanding of the UK Science Festivals sector and experience of developing content for festivals or large-scale events. You will have experience of working with scientists and researchers to co-develop content for events and of developing content for audiences who are underrepresented in science or who see science as not for them. You will have excellent project management and planning skills.
Travel to the Festival location will be required for this post, including one week on-site during the Festival (September).

Working effectively with volunteers is an important part of our Project Support Officer roles. You will support the Area Manager and Regional Manager with volunteer recruitment, volunteer administration and volunteer retention, and giving our volunteers a fantastic experience. You will also be involved in guest outreach, and giving extra support to our Wales projects as and when required, to aid development and growth within the region.
Each of our Projects is run by volunteer Project Leaders and supported by Regional Managers through recruitment and training of volunteers. You will support the Regional Managers so that they can manage more projects. This support could range from developing relationships with our food suppliers, researching local organisations to support with guest outreach, and recruiting new volunteer Project Leaders for the Area.
You will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and be able to talk confidently to external people about our Projects.You will also be a good organizer, with the ability to manage multiple tasks within multiple Projects. You will have a passion for food and cooking, and be committed to our objectives and ethics.
This role will require some attendance at our Community Meals projects, which would include some evening and weekend work. A full driving license and access to a vehicle for work purposes is essential for this exciting role. You’ll need to live within easy reach of our Wales projects in Cardiff, Newport and Swansea.
