Waterloo Uncovered is the ground-breaking charity that combines world-class archaeology with veteran recovery and wellbeing. Since 2015 we have been supporting veterans and serving military personnel, through programmes centred around the archaeology of the Waterloo battlefield. For example, learning archaeological skills through excavation on the battlefield supported by a wellbeing team, bringing the artefacts discovered at Waterloo to beneficiaries in their community, or supporting beneficiaries to explore archaeology and history of conflict through our online programme. All our programmes link conflicts past to conflict present, as beneficiaries uncover, recover and discover.
As Administrative Assistant you will be part of our small, dynamic, and passionate team, which is supported by an extensive network of volunteers. You will work closely with the Chief Executive on all aspects of our administration in support of our operational delivery, communications, fundraising and outreach.
Key responsibilities:

Programme administration, engaging directly in support of beneficiaries for onboarding, logistics and follow up, answering enquiries and general tasks.

Customer service, responding to email and telephone enquiries and correspondence.

Database and spreadsheet management, including managing contacts and suppliers, as well as donor and volunteer data on our CRM system and digital filing.

Processing financial and accounting requirements, including invoices, payroll, expenses and supplier payments.

Virtual office support, arranging meetings and team events, providing secretariat to Trustee Board, office contracts, suppliers and administration.

Researches as requested, complies and summarises information for drafting applications for grants and trusts, managing fundraising pipeline and tracking, reporting schedules and reports.

Administration of social media accounts, support to drafts of newsletter and impact reports, and other communication initiatives.

What you will need

This year we launch a new three-year programme to achieve one of those key aims – raising the status of the early education profession, and we need a Campaign Manager to help us drive that work.
About the role

Hours: 30 hours (4 days per week). Some out-of-hours work may be required for which TOIL will be given.

Salary: £48,000 per annum FTE (£38,400 pro-rata)
Although we work remotely with a team that is spread nationwide, this role does require someone that is based in or close to London in order to deliver our Westminster programme of activities.
We work flexibly and it won’t come as a surprise to you that we understand the challenge of caring commitments. We trust you to manage your time, but we do expect that most of your hours are worked during standard office hours so that we can collaborate as a team and engage with our coalition partners. Our core working day is a Thursday. As a fully remote team this helps us to stay in touch and connect.
This role is initially offered on a two-year fixed term basis which we expect to renew in line with funding and is offered at four days per week. If you have a preferred working pattern, please speak to us and we would be happy to see if we can make it work.
The Coalition has experienced significant growth over the last two years and with early years firmly on the political agenda, we expect this to continue. Our hope is that this role will evolve and the successful candidate will continue to progress within this growing and impactful organisation.
For the last two years, the Coalition has been incubated by the Women’s Budget Group, the UK’s leading feminist economic think tank. Our growth means that we are now ready to spin out into a separate and independent legal entity. That means that your employment contract will initially be with WBG on behalf of the Coalition but will then transfer across to the newly constituted organisation. What you can expect to be doing

Whilst the coalition currently has almost 40 core member organisations who shape our policy and lead on our shared campaigns, we are looking to grow our network of supporter organisations – these are partners who share our belief in the value of early education and childcare even if they do not work directly in early years policy. The Campaign Manager will lead a new project to identify, onboard, engage and grow this supporter network, ensuring they remain up to date with the latest research produced by the Coalition and its partners.

With the support of the Head of Advocacy and our external comms partner, develop a new narrative to raise the profile of the early education workforce and deliver a series of campaign moments across paid, earned and owned media to support this work.

Deliver ongoing comms and campaign projects designed to grow the coalition’s profile across a range of stakeholders.

Analyse and scope political developments related to the early education and childcare workforce, identifying opportunities to engage and influence.

Support the organisation of Coalition in person and online events.

Engage collaboratively with Coalition members to coordinate and amplify their collective and individual voices and work.

Support with the creation, writing and publication of communication materials including blogs, case studies, press releases and research reports.

Work with our research partners to drive the aims of the programme.
About you
You will be creative, resourceful and highly effective at building relationships across a wide range of stakeholders. Above all else, you’ll be as passionate as our members about the opportunity that the early years holds for children, families and wider society.
You will play a pivotal role in driving the aims of our new programme, delivering campaign moments that raise the status of early educators while amplifying our emerging research from this programme, and activating new messaging and narratives.
With the support of our Head of Advocacy & Communications, you will grow our network of supporters, securing the backing of organisations from across civil society, the business community and the public sector for our shared aims.
Ideally you will have a good working knowledge of the challenges facing the sector and a good understanding of key influencers in this space including think tanks, MPs and journalists.
You will be a confident communicator with strong writing skills and an eye for detail. The right candidate will be comfortable working in a small team where we all muck-in and benefit from each other’s skills.

About the Youth Endowment Fund
We’re here to prevent children from becoming involved in violence. We do this by finding out what works and building a movement to change things.
In recent years, violent crime involving children has increased. This is a tragedy. Every child is an important member of our community and society has a duty to protect them.
The Youth Endowment Fund (YEF) is a charity with a £200m endowment that exists to prevent children from becoming involved in violence. We’ll achieve this by finding out what works and building a movement to put this knowledge into practice. We do this by funding, evaluating and then spreading the very best work on reducing youth violence across England and Wales.
The Area Leaders Programme (ALP) is central to this mission. The ALP will transform how areas identify and support young people and places most vulnerable to violence, collaborate effectively, and deliver impactful interventions to better protect children from being drawn into violence. We are seeking an exceptional senior manager to help drive the next phase of the ALP, scaling from a successful pilot in four Local Authorities to broader implementation across England and Wales.
Key Responsibilities
The Senior Area Leaders Programmes Manager will be an essential part of the YEF Change team and will support the expansion and delivery of the Area Leaders Programme, ensuring its effectiveness in increasing evidence-based decision-making, commissioning, and multi-agency collaboration. You will provide direct operational oversight and stakeholder engagement to support local areas in reducing youth involvement in violence. Approximately 0.4fte of the role will be presenting YEF Toolkit evidence in both the ALP and across wider violence prevention networks supported by the YEF.
This will include:
Programme Management and Delivery
- Support the management of the expansion of ALP from four pilot areas to 10 new local authority areas from spring 2025.
- Support the development and refinement of frameworks, tools, and resources to support effective identification of the people and places most vulnerable to violence, evidence-based commissioning, effective case management, and multi-agency collaboration.
- Commission and manage contractual arrangements with external consultants secured to support ALP development and delivery.
- Manage robust monitoring and evaluation processes to assess the impact and inform continuous improvement of the programme.
- Manage programme resources effectively, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to high standards.
Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration
- Build and maintain strong relationships with local authorities, safeguarding partnerships, community safety partnerships, and other stakeholders.
- Represent YEF in discussions with partners and policymakers.
- Help facilitate collaboration across diverse stakeholders to align priorities, overcome barriers, and promote evidence-based approaches.
Capacity Building and Support
- Provide strategic and operational support to multi-agency teams, empowering them to embed effective violence prevention practices.
- Lead capacity-building activities, including workshops, coaching, training, and peer learning opportunities for local partnerships.
Presenting Toolkit evidence.
- You will present Toolkit evidence in talks and workshops and speak clearly and persuasively about Toolkit evidence, so that insights from our research lead to positive change. You’ll work with key stakeholders to identify areas of policy and practice that should be informed by Toolkit evidence.
About you
You are this sort of person:
- A passion for making a difference by keeping children safe from involvement in violence. You want to play a significant part in reducing the level of youth violence and see the value in an evidence-informed approach. You’ll know about the key issues and debates in preventing children and young people becoming involved in violence.
- You believe in the importance of using evidence to prevent violence and enjoy sharing evidence to inform others. You have a keen interest in learning from research, identifying key findings and sharing these insights with people working in various sectors and organisations. You tailor your style and content to ensure evidence is understood and used.
- Knowledge of crime or violence prevention. You might have worked closely with, or been a practitioner in, a youth offending team, policing, children’s services or youth work and might have previous experience of supporting a local partnership to develop their violence reduction strategy or reflect on and adopt evidence-based practice. You are aware of the current context, issues or challenges facing some of these sectors or agencies.
- You are fascinated about change and are experienced in making it happen. You understand why people find change difficult. You come alive talking about how people make decisions and why they do the things they do.

Hybrid Working

Due to the nature of the programme there is some national travel required within England and Wales. This is likely to be around twice a month, all travel costs can be reimbursed with flexibility for overnight stays if preferred.

Nutley Edge Activity Breaks are Outward’s supported holidays for adults with learning disabilities and autism. They are five days and four nights long and take place at our beautiful holiday site near Uckfield in East Sussex. Every break is themed and guests take part in a range of activities such as archery, art, music, yoga, and day trips to local towns, cities, and historical sites. Our breaks give guests the opportunity to get away for a holiday, meet new people, and explore the best of East Sussex.

What is the role of the Manager?
As manager, with the support of the deputy(s), you will organise varied and fun breaks for our guests. This includes carrying out assessments for new guests, supporting the team to deliver respite care, coaching the staff team, and embedding high standards in the service. We run 20 breaks a year and wish to grow this number, around about 10 of which are led by the Activity Team Manager on site in East Sussex. During activity breaks food and your own room is provided and an additional sleep in payment for each night supporting a break is paid.
We are a London based charity and welcome applicants for this role on the understanding they are able to support at least 10 breaks throughout a year (providing day and overnight support for 5 days/ 4 nights at a time in East Sussex), are able to travel to our North East London offices to attend meetings and training sessions, and travel to assessments and marketing events as required.

We’re looking for a Stories and Media Manager to join our team
Salary: Circa £40,000
Base: Central Edinburgh/hybrid
Hours: Full time and permanent. Working 35 hours a week over core working hours of 10am - 3pm, Monday to Friday, with a one-hour lunch break. The office is open 8am - 7pm daily and our hybrid working policy requires all full-time employees to work at least two days a week in the Edinburgh office.
