Winston’s Wish is a digital first organisation leading the way in Digital Transformation across the Bereavement sector. This role is new and exciting and will play a vital part in helping Winston’s Wish turn up the dial across our high value fundraising.

The Head of High Value Fundraising is responsible for delivering and significantly growing income from Corporate Partnerships, Philanthropy and Trusts and Grants. Leading a team of committed fundraisers, you will develop a robust strategy that delivers mutually beneficial partnerships, outstanding supporter relationships and long-term sustainable income.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES  

Specific Duties 

Leadership

• To lead and inspire the high value team fostering a collaborative and high culture that delivers against income and objectives
• Provide clear and supportive leadership that motivates staff to achieve, develop and grow in their roles
• Undertake quarterly reviews for all direct reports

High Value Fundraising

• Cultivate and maintain relationships with high-value donors, ensuring effective solicitation, stewardship, and follow-up to secure significant contributions (six-figure gifts)
• Build and maintain a portfolio of Trust & Grants supporters. Responsible for researching, approaching and developing compelling applications with a focus on ensuring Trusts & Grants provide a long-term, diverse and sustainable income stream
• Lead the development and stewardship of the Philanthropy board to identify and secure transformational (6-7 figure) gifts and the development of the Business development Board to open opportunities with Corporate Partners
• Write and design a compelling case for support that is tailored to our High Value audiences
• Build a portfolio of corporate partners, including securing high-value, multi-year partnerships. You will work with the team to grow this income stream from prospecting, approaches, applications, pitches, stewardship and providing excellent account management
• Lead on planning and delivering successful high value cultivation events

• Represent Winston’s Wish at fundraising events and meetings with internal and external stakeholders

Strategy, Planning and reporting

• To create and implement a strategy including corporate partnerships, trusts & foundations and major donors
• Lead on developing and delivering effective stewardship journeys and cultivation plans
• Produce regular reports on fundraising activity, analysing performance against targets, and identifying areas for improvement and growth.
• Work with the Director of Income Generation and the Head of Mass Participation Fundraising to develop the annual budget, including leading on monthly performance reports and contributing to quarterly reforecasts and reporting against KPI’s and milestones
• Undertake research and make use of tools to identify potential High Value partners.

Collaboration

• Work closely with the Director of Income Generation, Head of Mass Participation Fundraising, SLT and other teams to maximise high value fundraising opportunities
• Work with the Marketing team to deliver urgent and compelling high value messages tailed for the different audiences
• Work with the Trustees to build networks and increase the reach of Winston’s Wish

 PERSON SPECIFICATION  

Essential 

• A proven track record in high-value fundraising, including securing 6-7 figure donations from high-net-worth individuals, trusts, foundations, and businesses
• Track record of converting cold prospects to planned gifts of 6-7 figures
• Demonstratable strong strategic planning skills and the ability to develop and implement long-term strategies to achieve fundraising targets and enhance the charity's mission
• Proven leadership and people management skills, with experience in overseeing multi-disciplinary teams. Essential experience includes team leadership, staff motivation, setting clear objectives, and fostering a collaborative work environment.
• Experience in effectively developing, managing and reporting complex income and expenditure budgets
• Exceptional communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to influence at senior levels and excellent written skills
• Experience of successfully engaging trustees and/or senior volunteer committees to drive philanthropic income.
• Excellent relationship-building and stakeholder management skills
• Strong networking skills with the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders
• A proactive and results-driven mindset.

Desirable

The role

This post plays a key role in the strategic leadership and day to day management of IES, with overall responsibility for IES’s financial stewardship, financial management and support services.  The post reports to the CEO, is a member of the Institute Management Team and acts as Secretary to IES’s non-executive Board of Trustees.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities in the role are set out below.

Financial management

■ Overall responsibility for IES budgeting, accounting, audit, reporting and internal controls.

■ Oversight and responsibility for IES internal systems, processes and reporting, to ensure that there is a regular, timely and accurate understanding of the Institute’s financial position.

■ Providing information and advice to the Management Team and Board of Trustees on IES’s financial position and future financial risks and opportunities.

■ Responsibility for ensuring that timely and accurate financial information is available to project managers, alongside appropriate support with management of project resources. This includes oversight of systems for project accounting and reporting, administration of research contracts and contracts with third parties, contract-related client relationship management, and data protection.

■ Managing relationships with key external suppliers, including the bank and auditors.

Company secretary

■ Ensuring that IES complies with all relevant company and charity law and can meet wider standards of good governance and transparency in the sector.

■ Oversight and responsibility for IES systems and processes that support effective corporate and charity governance.

What we are looking for:

The successful candidate will be able to combine active delivery of financial and other services with high level proactive advice, and will have:

■ Experience of financial management within a small/medium sized organisation, preferably one reliant on project or contract-related funding. This could include charitable organisations, research bodies, consultancies, legal or professional services firms, academia, or similar.

■ Be a fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or equivalent).

■ Experience managing a diverse team in a similar environment; with strong collaboration skills.

■ Ability to build relationships and communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders including the Board of Trustees, the IES Management team, and research, consultancy and support staff within the organisation.

■ An initiative-taking and adaptable approach to managing a small and administratively lean organisation.

Purpose
This vital role works alongside the Head of Philanthropy to help build and grow our philanthropic partnerships over the next five years and beyond. As well as building upon current relationships, you will identify, research and cultivate relationships with charitable Trusts and Foundations as well as major donors to raise both restricted and unrestricted income.

Responsibilities and areas of work
This important role will focus primarily on Trust Fundraising but will also encompass Major Donor Fundraising. It will seek to identify new high-level donors, as well to develop existing relationships with our generous supporters. Working closely with the Head of Philanthropy, other team members and external consultants, and in collaboration with our colleagues in the
Programmes Team, the Senior Philanthropy Officer will focus on building our trust portfolio – with a focus on donors giving £5k - £100k per year

1. New business acquisition:
a) Researching new individuals and trusts to build a prospect list for future funders, using our database (Salesforce), available lists and external databases. Assessing the potential for active, lapsed and prospective donors to support CBM and recording accordingly.
b) Recommending tactical next steps for engagement with new individuals and trusts, for approval by the Head of Philanthropy.
2. Stewardship and cultivation of current and active donors:
a) Developing and implementing tailored stewardship plans, so that individuals / trusts are engaged in a bespoke manner, and that application and reporting deadlines are met.
b) Leading on the production and submission of applications, proposals and initial approaches (by post, email and, to a lesser degree, phone) and following up as required.
c) Reporting to donors in a formal or informal way, as appropriate, to ensure they are kept up to date with CBM and project developments                                                                                                                                                               d)Organising, facilitating and attending face-to-face and online meetings with high-level donors/ trusts, including organising dates and venues, and creating Meeting Briefs for all attendees to ensure positive outcomes.

3. Proposal and Report Writing
a) Designing and crafting compelling proposals, reports, project timelines and budgets that meet the bespoke needs of donors whilst meeting the needs of CBM and our Programme delivery colleagues, within agreed deadlines.
b) Working with members of the Programmes Team to ensure the accuracy of proposals /reports, and with members of the Fundraising & Communications Team to ensure consistency of messaging.
c) Working with the Philanthropy & Partnerships Team to develop new projects/ themes/
appeals for potential projects.

4. Other Team Responsibilities:
a) Helping to develop the Annual Forecast Budget for the Team, and providing updates on the pipeline and progress against targets.
b) Ensuring all information, donor activity is recorded and kept up-to-date on our database to fully-inform any approaches / meetings.
c) Providing proof-reading and copy-editing support to colleagues.
d) Monitoring the activity of related organisations and the fundraising sector, identifying changes, predicting trends and making recommendations as necessary.
e) Helping to develop a culture of enthusiasm and success, reflecting the ambitions of CBM, and promoting positive working and innovation.

What will you be doing?

We are looking to recruit a committed individual to support the delivery and development of our criminal  justice practice work, with a focus on women’s justice. This is an exciting opportunity where the successful applicant will be actively contributing to the design and delivery of our expanding women in justice area of focus within the Centre.

The role will primarily support our work to expand and enhance community justice for women. This means working in partnership with statutory partners such as police, probation, the judiciary and court staff, as well as 3rd sector organisations including women’s centres to support evidence-led practice.

The successful applicant will be responsible for supporting our women’s problem-solving court network. This will involve (i) identifying and convening practitioners and others who are interested in women’s problem-solving approaches; (ii) facilitating and delivering training and practice sharing workshops; and (iii) developing briefings and toolkits that support the spread of good practice.

Problem-solving courts are specialist courts that focus on addressing the underlying issues and problems that drive offending behaviour. They specialise in a specific set of issues or around a specific target group, such as women with multiple unmet needs. They operate with multi-agency teams to provide tailored interventions and supervision, combining this with judicial monitoring, where individuals regularly appear before the same judge to review their progress.

The Practice Officer will also support us to expand our reach in Out Of Court Resolutions (OOCRs) and pre-court diversion, working directly with police and other agencies to develop or improve their gender-responsive diversion schemes.

The role will also include:

• Supporting the delivery of our practice support in areas such as early intervention and diversion, and specialist problem-solving approaches for women;

• Identifying and supporting areas for practice development;

• Developing practical tools to support practitioners;

• Presenting at external events;

• Contributing to the design and facilitation of practice sharing events and workshops;

• Engaging with practitioners, stakeholders and service users to shape delivery and represent the Centre;

• Working with the Centre’s teams to ensure practice work feeds into our research, policy and communication activities.

The Practice Officer will have experience of:

• Frontline work with women in the justice system OR experience of managing projects and working with others to change frontline practice (essential);

  Prior knowledge and experience of criminal problem-solving courts is not essential, but the Practice Officer will be required to develop a strong technical understanding of the model once in post.

About the role

The Capacity Development unit seeks a Capacity Development Officer to support the implementation of the Advocacy Institute Regional track. 

The NCD Advocacy Institute is a flagship Capacity Development initiative designed to strengthen NCD civil society to ensure a more effective NCD response. It consists of a multi-year partnership with organizations and alliances, supporting and strengthening the growth of NCD civil society across selected geographies. Its Seed track supports the establishment of NCD civil society networks in countries/regions where these are non-existent or young. The Accelerator track works with established NCD alliances to strengthen advocacy efforts where there are windows of opportunity for specific NCD policy change. 

The Regional track focuses on strengthening regional NCD civil society in their coalition building and advocacy efforts with a key element of leading mobilisation and accountability efforts ahead of and in follow up to, the 2025 High Level Meeting on NCDs. The track supports regional alliances in Africa, Caribbean, Eastern Mediterranean, Latin America and South East Asia and includes a mix of grant support, tailored technical assistance, access to relevant training opportunities (Seed, Accelerator, different thematic tracks according to the capacity needs and strategic interests of each alliance), networking and knowledge exchange opportunities across other regions. The track also focuses on enhancing the role of regional NCD alliances in the capacity building of national NCD alliances in the region and pays special attending to building close linkages with Our Views Our Voices Initiative. A key element of this track is to build effective connections between national, regional and global advocacy efforts and maximise global and regional advocacy opportunities in the lead up, and in follow up, to the 2025 UN High Level Meeting on NCDs.

The Regional Advocacy track aims to:

·Strengthen the organisational capacity of regional alliances as an enabler for effective advocacy, supporting coalition building, strengthening organisational processes and governance structures;

·Support strategic advocacy and accountability efforts led by regional alliances, strengthening linkages between global, regional and national advocacy levels, maximising global advocacy milestones, particularly the 2025 UN High level Meeting on NCDs;

·Promote and support the role of regional NCD alliances in mobilising NCD civil society and national alliances in the region, and the role of regional NCD alliance in supporting regional networks as such.

The Capacity Development Officer will play a key role in the implementation of the Regional track by supporting coalition-building efforts, strengthening regional advocacy initiatives, and enhancing the capacity of NCD alliances to drive policy change. This includes providing grant administration support, facilitating technical assistance, and ensuring effective knowledge exchange between regional and national alliances. Additionally, the officer will contribute to monitoring and evaluation efforts, gathering key insights on local conditions and advocacy opportunities to inform tailored capacity development support.

 NCDA seeks applicants with suitable experience and background for a full-time role as Capacity Development Officer. This position reports to the UK-based Capacity Development Manager. This position is possible thanks to NCD Alliance’s partnerships with Bloomberg Philanthropies and is subject to yearly renewal. The role is based in London, UK, and is open to UK citizens and other applicants who already possess a valid work authorisation. NCDA will not sponsor visa applications. The Capacity Development Officer would be mainly home-based/remote with the expectation of working from the London office 1 day a week.

Core responsibilities

•Support the roll out of the Advocacy Institute’s Regional track, by strengthening regional coalition-building and advocacy efforts, enhancing the capacity of regional NCD alliances to drive policy change and accountability.

•Perform grant administration duties, to support the Advocacy Institute and its Regional track, including grantee communications, support grant awards, monitoring and grantee reporting. 

•Monitor local conditions and opportunities for the Advocacy Institute participating alliances and collect M&E data regularly to help with programme development and the provision of tailored technical assistance to NCD alliances part of the Advocacy Institute’s Regional track. 

•Support the development of research and knowledge products in support of CD work as needed (e.g., civil society mappings, guides, reports, programme documentation, etc.). 

•Support the organisation of the Advocacy Institute trainings and live sessions, and other CD events as required, including supporting curriculum development, participant support, administrative functions, and evaluation. 

•Provide written content to promote regional and national activity through NCD Alliance communication channels, including social media and website. 

•Leverage NCDA expertise providing technical assistance to alliances and facilitating networking opportunities, enable access to NCDA expertise, advocacy advice and support, and access to a broader network of advocates who can provide peer-to-peer support. 

•Support broader Advocacy Institute and NCDA webinars and events for regional and national NCD alliances. 

•Coordinate regional and national efforts with global advocacy to ensure maximum impact of the Advocacy Institute and broader CD efforts. 

On-going activities: 

•Ensure an updated record of activities by organisations and NCD alliances supported by the CD projects and initiatives, to inform NCDAs capacity development, advocacy and communication activities. 

•Maintain regular communications with regional and national NCD alliances for advocacy and network updates. 

•Gather relevant regional information to support the offering of appropriate and relevant technical assistance to NCDA member regional and national NCD alliances. 

•Help maintain an updated contacts database of regional and national NCD alliances. 

•Help maintain up to date Capacity Development content in the NCDA website. 

•Handle administrative responsibilities in support of CD activities as needed. 

•Mobilize regional and national NCD alliances in support of global advocacy campaigns. 

•Provide support to civil society regional and national meetings as required, including administrative and content development support. 

•Support Advocacy Institute webinars for regional and national NCD alliances. 

•Look for opportunities to showcase regional and national progress in global events and platforms. 

Required experience and skills:

•Advanced university degree in public health, international relations, public policy, or similar, with a minimum of 2-3 years of relevant work experience in the non-profit area. 

•Demonstrated interest and understanding of global health and development; knowledge of NCDs would be ideal, particularly on aspects related to health policy and/or public health background is preferred. 

•International work experience is highly desired, as well as professional knowledge and/or experience of advocacy, policy and/or programmes. 

•Excellent organisational and strategic planning skills and ability to successfully manage competing priorities and meet deadlines. 

•Capacity to work independently and collaboratively in an international team environment with solid interpersonal and verbal communication skills. 

•Excellent judgment, strategic thinker, initiative taker. 

•Excellent analysis, writing and oral communications skills in English – foreign language skills are a plus (Spanish and/or French).

This role is part of the Connexional Team Learning Network, supporting, encouraging, and equipping the Church to live out ‘Our Calling’ through worship, mission, evangelism and discipleship. The Learning Network primarily works with lay and ordained leaders, helping them equip others.

This post contributes to Connexional-wide learning and development initiatives, and is specifically aligned with the Wales Synod Cymru District as the Welsh speaking Learning and Development Officer (LDO) and the new West Midlands District following the merger of the current Birmingham District and the Wolverhampton and Shrewsbury District on 1st September 2025. Wales Synod Cymru is a bilingual District of 16 circuits, including the Welsh language Cymru Circuit which covers the whole of Wales, and the West Midlands District has 20 circuits across Birmingham, Wolverhampton and the Black Country, Worcestershire, Warwickshire, Herefordshire, Shropshire and Staffordshire.
