Job Title: Director of Programmes & Funding

Salary: Circa £75,000 per annum (depending on experience)

Location: Hybrid working blending home working with our locations in Chelsea or Harefield Hospital, with a minimum of 40% time spent in the office.

This pivotal role within our charity ensures the effective management of our grant programmes, designs new programmes and initiatives, and determines funding needs to maximise our impact. Reporting directly to our CEO, the Director of Programmes & Funding works closely with internal and external stakeholders, including trustees, hospital partners, and other health funders. You will play a crucial role in developing and aligning our funding strategies with our mission to advance care for those affected by heart and lung diseases.

Key Responsibilities:

• Strategic Funding & Programme development: Lead the design and development of funding programmes, working with hospital partners and external funders to identify and create new funding opportunities that align with our strategic goals and meet the needs of heart and lung patients.

• Senior Leadership Contribution: Provide leadership across the charity, contributing to organisational development, decision-making, and supporting the CEO in leading the charity’s strategic direction.

• Team Management: Lead the Grants team, overseeing the planning and management of workloads, and ensuring high standards of support and development within the team.

• Stakeholder Engagement: Work closely with trustees and hospital leadership, representing the charity in external meetings, and supporting the CEO in organisational leadership.

• Programme Oversight: Manage the charity’s grant processes, including strategic planning, budgeting, monitoring, and evaluation, to ensure impactful and efficient funding.

• Governance & Compliance: Oversee risk management in relation to funding, and ensure our grant schemes are compliant with charity law, governance standards, public sector financial guidance, and our aim to achieve membership of the Association of Medical Research Charities

Summary of What We’re Looking For:

• Substantial experience in leading programmes and funding functions, within a relevant not-for-profit setting (eg hospital or healthcare charity).

• Proven ability in managing and reporting the impact of charitable programmes to senior stakeholders and boards / committees.

• Deep understanding of the healthcare context, including political context, research and innovation environments, partnered with an understanding of the charity landscape.

• Strong strategic thinking with excellent leadership skills and experience in managing and developing others.

• Educated to at least degree level in a relevant field (such as biomedical science) or equivalent relevant work experience.

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to build relationships with a wide range of stakeholders and synthesise technical medical information to specialists and non-specialists.

The ideal candidate will hold an advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in biomedical sciences or a related field, complemented by proven experience in enhancing Programme and Funding operations within a relevant organisation. They would also demonstrate a track record of contributing to organisational strategy.

We operate from five locations, providing an incredible range of projects covering sports, arts and performing arts, media, music, digital and our specialist gang’s project, motor vehicle workshops and educational programmes aimed at reducing school exclusions. Key Responsibilities

1. Program Management:

- Develop and implement a diverse range of programmes and activities that cater to the interests, needs, and developmental stages of young people.

- Coordinate and oversee the scheduling, logistics and evaluation of programs and activities.

Person Specification - Qualifications and Skills

-JNC Professionally qualified Youth Worker with Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related field (e.g., social work, youth development, education) or equivalent practical experience.

-Proven experience working with young people in a youth club, community centre or similar setting.

-Strong understanding of youth development principles and best practices.

-Excellent communication, interpersonal and mentoring skills.

-Demonstrated leadership and team management abilities.

-Ability to adapt to diverse needs and engage with young individuals from various backgrounds.

-Knowledge of relevant legislation and child protection guidelines.

-Proficiency in administrative tasks, including record-keeping and report writing.

Job Title: Experienced Associate Independent Investigating Officers (IOs) for Stage 2 Complaints (This role sits within our Independent Person for Complaints (IPC) service)

Contract: Associate

Hours: Variable, according to demand for services/caseload and role in investigation

Salary: £25.25 per hour (50% professional rate for travel plus expenses)

Location: Associate Independent Investigating Officers for Complaints primarily work from home. Some travel may be required as part of an investigation – location will vary according to the referral received from the Local Authority. We are seeking additional experienced Associate Independent Investigating Officers (IO) for Complaints, to increase our capacity to respond to referrals from Local Authorities to provide an independent element to the formal Stage 2 investigations under the Children Act 1989.

The IO will lead investigations, and will give the complainant (who may be a child, young person or adult) the opportunity to express their view, ensure the child or young person’s rights and best interests are at the centre of the investigation and that the investigation/review process is open and transparent. They write a report on the investigation/review, which is submitted to the referring agency.

The Job Description document sets out the expectations for an Associate Independent Person for Complaints (IPC) who is approved by Coram Voice. IPCs are independent, freelance and responsible for their own work. Nevertheless, IPCs are accountable to the organisation for their professional standards and are expected to comply with Coram Voice Code of Ethics and Practice Guidelines.

The Child and Family Specialist role is part of an exciting and innovative partnership with the London Borough of Ealing to provide an early intervention service in the community and in schools to children, young people and their families. The Ealing Early Intervention Service has been commissioned to provide direct and systemic work to address moderate mental health needs.

The Child and Family Specialist will work in partnership with schools, children and families to assess and respond to the psychological needs of children experiencing social, emotional, mental health or behavioural difficulties through undertaking assessments and providing interventions. The post-holder will also: provide specialist advice and support to school staff in the identification of mental health needs of children and accessing appropriate resources; and actively contribute to outcome monitoring and service improvement.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a commissioned service delivering direct interventions for young people and their families. The post-holder will offer a range of clinical activities to address mental health needs in children and young people, including direct individual and group work with young people and parents/carers and joint work with other professionals.  The clinical case presentation is mostly moderate risk and requires insight into handling complex clinical cases (e.g. neurodiverse and trauma-inform practice) and appropriate responses to safeguarding concerns.

The Child and Family Specialist will join a small team of 12 people in a fast-paced working dynamic. The post-holder will be supported through supervision and will deliver consultation, training, and workshops to non-mental health staff.

About the Role

We are seeking to recruit a creative and ambitious Fundraising and Communications Officer.

As our reach and impact has increased significantly in recent years, so has our income, and this new role has been created in response to that demand.  This is an exciting opportunity for a fundraiser who wants to widen, or consolidate, their knowledge and experience of fundraising, in an international context, as well as gain communications experience.

We are a very small team so the role will cover a breadth of funding streams, with a particular focus on Trusts and Foundations, High Value Donors, and Events, both special and community.  It is therefore important that you have excellent writing and interpersonal skills, and solid experience of crafting successful funding applications.  You will also need excellent planning and organisational skills.

The role can, to some extent, be shaped by the skills and experience of the successful candidate, but it is likely to include the following responsibilities.

 Key Responsibilities

• Steward, retain and grow the support of our existing donor portfolio: KHULA has an existing portfolio of donors including trusts, foundations, corporates, major donors, individual and regular givers, the majority of whom are based in the UK or South Africa. Alongside the Director of Fundraising and Communications, the post holder will be responsible for managing these relationships, including bespoke reporting for trusts and major donors and taking responsibility for their own portfolio of donors.
• Donor prospecting and new business: researching and generating new donor leads as well as acting on opportunities provided by our Board and others, converting prospects into supporters of our programmes.
• ​​External communications: working alongside the Director of Fundraising and Communications, assisting in the creation of our quarterly e-newsletter and the Annual Report, managing our social media channels, in addition to other ad hoc external communications.
• Events: supporting our community and events fundraisers and assisting with the organisation of occasional special events, alongside Board members.
• Fundraising innovation: assisting in the development of creative campaigns to increase donations/recruit lapsed donors, developing products and offerings.
• Financial management and admin: maintaining our donor database and contributing to fundraising budgets and forecasts. 

Person Specification

Experience of working in a smaller charity and team is beneficial as this is a very hands-on role, covering a wide range of responsibilities.

We are particularly interested to hear from candidates who demonstrate most/all of the following attributes:

• A proven, demonstrable track record of submitting successful funding applications.
• Experience in successfully fundraising from one or more of trusts, foundations, high value donors and corporates.
• Experience of community and events fundraising, including promoting events and supporting participants.

The Role

The Philanthropic Partnerships Assistant plays an important role in supporting the financial sustainability objectives of GGF UK. The postholder is responsible for managing a portfolio of trust and foundations partnerships giving up to $200,000 per year, and will also be responsible for stewarding our portfolio of individual giving supporters donating up to £10,000 per year. The role also contributes to GGF UK’s communications activity in collaboration with our global Communications function, as well as contributing to ensuring that the organisation’s fundraising activity is supported with robust infrastructure and processes.

The position reports to the Head of Philanthropic Partnerships, and works closely with colleagues across Global Greengrants Fund UK and Global Greengrants Fund Inc.

The candidate profile.

The ideal candidate will have relevant experience in fundraising from trusts, foundations, and/or individual donors, ideally within environmental, international, or rights-based organisations. They will demonstrate exceptional attention to detail and time management skills, effectively prioritising tasks to deliver excellent results within a complex, varied, and time-sensitive workload.

With excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, the candidate will have a proven ability to create compelling proposals, presentations, reports, and other materials. They will possess strong IT skills, including proficiency in MS Office, Google Apps, and collaboration tools like Trello and Slack, along with experience using Salesforce or other CRM systems. The candidate will have a strong understanding of and commitment to environmental and social justice, with some knowledge of the issues addressed by Global Greengrants Fund. Additionally, they will have experience working with diverse global communities in a virtual environment.

The ideal candidate will be committed to shifting power in philanthropy, promoting trust-based and power-shifting approaches to philanthropy and grantmaking. The candidate will have a strong understanding of and commitment to environmental and social justice, aligning with the issues Global Greengrants Fund addresses. Additionally, they will excel in building strong alliances with diverse constituencies and managing complex relationships, having experience working with diverse communities worldwide, particularly in a virtual setting.

• Lead the coordination of the PMER Community of Practice and organise and chair the Community of Practice Steering Group. The PMER Community of Practice is an informal group designed to facilitate the sharing of learning and best practice among WaterAid staff, especially PMER staff.
• Lead on PMER Community of Practice communications including the CoP communications strategy, quarterly PMER inductions, trainings and learning sessions and communicating regular PMER updates.
• Ensure that the PMER Community of Practice is active, incentivising participation in COP activities e.g. drop in clinics, webinars, discussions etc.

Strengthen organisational PMER capacity

• Develop and manage effective PMER capacity strengthening initiatives to support the application of the PMER core procedures and especially Reporting processes. This includes developing new and strengthening existing PMER guidance and tools and developing and delivering training.
• Provide remote and/or face-to-face support to Country Programmes and Regional Teams on an ad hoc basis to strengthen and build capacity in PMER
• Support any other relevant processes including administrative tasks within the remit of PMER as required

External Representation

• Represent WaterAid externally on key PMER issues, linking with key networks as appropriate

About You:

• Experience of coordinating and rolling out complex reporting processes, working with a range of stakeholders to ensure timely completion of deliverables
• Experience of building engagement of colleagues on a specific area of work, in-person or remotely
• Experience of strengthening the skills and capacities of others either face-to-face or remotely
• Good understanding of planning, monitoring, evaluation and reporting concepts and approaches
• Experience of writing reports fluently in English based on analysing and presenting complex information to a variety of audiences
• A self-starter, able to work independently and drive tasks forward to completion, escalating issues where appropriate
• Ability to travel internationally for up to 4 weeks per year
