To ensure we are pursuing the right strategies, we are embarking on the formulation of our new strategy for the next 5 years in Spring 2025. The Director of Finance and Operations is a pivotal role in the realisation of our renewed and heightened ambitions. Ada is a high-performing specialist technical College, the first brand new Further Education College in England since 1993. We use our deep relationships with our learners and industry partners to deliver a transformative education experience and train the next generation of diverse digital talent. About You
Ada is looking for a talented Education Finance professional with experience of managing wider operational functions such as Data & Information, IT and premises. Leading a committed and growing team, you will be a key member of the College’s Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and work closely with Board Members. You will be laser focused on effectively managing Ada’s financial performance alongside the delivery of our digital transformation strategy and oversight of our MIS systems and data returns, ensuring our premises and IT deliver staff and students the resources they need. You will ensure our systems, processes and premises remain fit for purpose and focused on staff usability as the College grows and scales its learner volumes and impact. Our board is clear that with our fantastic new campuses delivered and improved financial health, we need to urgently grow our learner volumes and impact to realise our ambition of being a truly National College.
Experience and Ambition
A successful candidate will be able to evidence:

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
- Provide strategic leadership and operational oversight of a robust financial, physical and digital management infrastructure for the College
- Be a collaborative, enthusiastic member of the College’s ELT, working closely with staff and Governors to help deliver our ambitious strategy
- Lead the Finance, Data, Impact, IT and Premises teams, driving high performance and effectiveness.
- Work with your team, providing timely finance and data analysis to the Board of Governors, CEO and ELT to aid strategic decision making
- Lead on effective risk management and mitigation at the College working with the Director of Operations and other relevant team members
- Working with auditors on the production of statutory accounts and oversee and effective internal audit cycle (currently outsourced). With the Audit Committee Chair and Board Clerk, lead the organisation of the Audit Committee.
- Lead on iteratively updating and effectively implement the organisation’s digital transformation strategy
- Support the college’s emerging impact function in the delivery of cutting-edge analysis and information on our performance and how we impact the lives of our students
- Lead on strategic risk management, working with other senior leaders to maintain accurate registers and reporting regularly to the Board of Governors.
- Lead the finance team to ensure effective treasury management, including annual budgeting, effective cash flow management and short and long term forecasting
- Maintaining and developing key relationships with all relevant external bodies
- Providing leadership to our new Impact function, ensuring that we accurately identify how we change the lives of our students and feed this back into the improvement of our offer.
- Undertaking other duties commensurate with the role as directed by the Chief Executive Officer or as delegated by the Chair of the Board.
Legislation and Compliance
• To provide leadership on ensuring that all statutory returns are accurately prepared and submitted in a timely fashion. These include the FE sector annual ESFA and ILR returns.
• Ensure the College has adequate insurance cover at all times including employer’s liability, buildings and equipment cover, personal accident, travel insurance and other relevant cover.
• Acting as Chief Data Officer in response to GDPR requirements.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
• A demonstrable track record of successful financial management in an Education and Skills context
• Demonstrable experience of board-level interactions, external stakeholder management and leading and managing high-performing teams in line with Ada’s five values.
• Good working knowledge of effective: data management systems and practices, financial and management information systems, GDPR and compliance matters in a regulated organisation
• The ability to provide leadership and drive improvement across a broad range oforganisational services
• Demonstrable evidence of embedding and promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace.
Desirable Experience:
• Accountancy Qualification, e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIPFA, CIMA.
• An understanding of the funding, regulatory and legislative environment of Colleges.

The RSPB’s successful and dynamic Philanthropy Team are looking for an experienced Philanthropy Manager who will be responsible for building relationships with mid-level donors and increasing the number and value of their donations. This role requires an enthusiastic and hardworking team player who will have a strong focus on developing donor relationships, maximizing their contributions while offering an engaging stewardship journey.
This role will lead on generating gifts from mid-level donors - those giving between £500 - £5,000. The position is tasked with increasing the number and value of these donations via a strategic mid-level donor stewardship programme that will inspire and engage both new and existing contacts.
Key Result Areas:
- Income – deliver innovative methods to manage and develop relationships with donors giving at the mid-level.
- Effective relationship building - through personalised and bespoke communications, requests, thanking, events and personal contact.
- Events - lead on and deliver an impactful and memorable events programme for the Philanthropy Team. Most events are likely to be Reserve based, often featuring work that has either been supported or will be featured in an appeal.

In the last few years, citizens’ assemblies have become commonplace in many countries (UK, Australia, Canada, Ireland, Poland) and spread to many more, such as France, Spain, Austria, Germany, Belgium, among others. A regional parliament in Belgium created a permanent citizens’ assembly - the first of its kind in Europe - and we are seeing local councils in the UK and Australia follow suit.
While this represents considerable success, there is still much work and campaigning to do. We want to see citizens’ assemblies become more prevalent, for them to become a permanent feature of our democracies, and we understand that for this to happen we need more people, organisations and decision makers to know about and advocate for these assemblies.
In recent years the Sortition Foundation:

Supported nearly 200 citizens’ assemblies and other sortition events in the UK, Australia, Hungary, and elsewhere, sending hundreds of thousands of assembly invitations to households, and recruiting thousands of people for deliberative processes. Some examples include Scotland’s Climate Assembly, the Budapest Climate Assembly, a citizens’ jury on assisted dying in Jersey, the UK government’s Public Advisory Group on COVID-19, and many community panels in Australia for councils in Victoria.

Developed a network of democracy organisations campaigning for the institutionalisation of citizens’ assemblies; we have an ongoing campaign to replace the House of Lords with a House of Citizens, have developed and tested messaging and framing guides for communicating our campaign goals, and have laid the groundwork for this transformative democratic change.

Reviewed and refreshed our strategy and structure to get clear on what we can hope to achieve with the resources we can wield in the best possible organisational structure.

Grew our annual turnover dramatically, from almost zero turnover six years ago, to over £624,000 in the last financial year.
We achieved all this thanks to our growing and dedicated staff; our continued partnerships with organisations including the Electoral Reform Society, Unlock Democracy, and Involve in the UK, and DemocracyCo in Australia; our ongoing participation in the Democracy R&D International Network.

Senior Media - Marketing And Communications Manager
UKIM is one of the premier faith based civil society organisations working in the UK to serve the needs of the Muslim community in the UK. UKIM is going through a major organisational reform to re-establish itself as an effective civil society organisation and fulfil its mission. The reform includes major changes at governance and executive level and relocating its Head Office from London to Oldham.

Brief about the role
UKIM is looking for an experienced individual with demonstrated relevant experience of media engagement, marketing (including digital), communications with internal and external stakeholders, along with suitable relevant qualifications, diverse skills and sector knowledge.
The Senior Manager – Media, Marketing and Communications will be overall responsible for the various functions/ scope of the Media, Marketing and Communications Department, including administrative matters, human resources aspects, budget preparation, monitoring & reporting, along with providing strategic leadership to the team, setting objectives for the team members, monthly 1-2-1 performance reviews, develop teams, develop fundraising campaigns/ coordinate fundraising activities/ appeals, prepare work plans against organisational strategic objectives and prepare quarterly reports for the Trustees.
Main Responsibilities:
- To support the Executive Director to strategise and lead on related organisational development activities and projects, for the whole UKIM.
- Admin Aspects: To be responsible for admin aspects in relation to the departmental work.
- Leadership & Supervision: To provide leadership to the dynamic team and keep an oversight on the performance of the team members on regular basis, provide guidance and supervision as required, to organise monthly 1-2-1s with the team to provide support in achieving their objectives.
- Strategy: To develop and implement an effective and coherent Media, Marketing & Communication Strategy along with work plans, defined Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to monitor departmental performance for supporting the work of the charity among the general public, potential strategic partners and donors and provide clear goals around communication and brand awareness. Implement a social media strategy that is integrated with wider team projects and ensure consistent messaging is shared across all platforms.
- Coordination: Oversee UKIM’s media, marketing and communications activity across all departments. Coordinate media, marketing and communications, marketing and fundraising activities on all platforms; including website, social media and internal/ external newsletters, for all departments of UKIM.
- Marketing: Marketing all departments of UKIM to different audiences to raise the profile of the Charity in support of its strategic aims.
- Partnerships: To identify strategic media & marketing partners and engage with the relevant stakeholders to enhance the UKIM’s profile within the sector.
- Campaigns (Digital): To develop various media & marketing campaigns by engaging all relevant platforms (social media, print, electronic and others) for enhancing UKIM’s virtual presence, community outreach and public engagement, for UKIM’s brand recognition, brand promotion within the third-sector including businesses etc.
- Branding: Act as a brand champion: developing core messaging guidelines to include organisational style guide, tone of voice, etc. and advising others to ensure that all content and messaging is on brand.
- Publications: Provide oversight of publications and materials, ensuring brand guidelines are followed. Work with the team to produce engaging content for internal and external blog posts, videos, podcast, newsletters and other forms of media to be shared across all platforms. Provide in-house design for publications and promotional materials as required.
- Budgets: To prepare departmental budget, monitor progress of income targets and expenses incurred. Prepare quarterly reports for the Executive Director and Trustees and present the progress to Public Affairs Committee by sharing dashboards with relevant KPIs, income streams and expenses incurred.
- Working as part of team: To work with other Heads and Managers to ensure effective delivery of all media, marketing and fundraising campaigns and activities.
- Communication: To effectively communicate with other departments to coordinate and streamline all media, marketing and fundraising activities.
- Management: Manage a dynamic team to ensure UKIM’s International, UK and other programmes/projects maximise in their fundraising income.
- Horizon Scanning: To undertake horizon scanning, to continually review the sector trends, identify new opportunities/ ideas, approaches, active engagement of youth, women and others in UKIM’s activities.
- Regulatory Compliance: To comply with the regulatory bodies guidelines including FRSB, ICO (including GDPR), Charity Commissions etc.
- Reporting: To be able to produce Brief Reports regarding departmental activities and plans.
- Complaint Handling: To handle and respond to any complaints received in a timely manner.
- Press Releases: To prepare timely press release(s) by responding to any news/ activity related to UKIM’s work, getting it approved and uploading on UKIM’s website.
- Recruitment: To undertake recruitment (as required) for casual workers engaged during campaigns/ appeals.
- Website: To ensure that all fundraising campaigns/ events information is always up to date on UKIM’s website and is aligned with the CRM system and with the Finance systems. Work with the UKIM team to develop and maintain website content.
Person Specification:
- Education at a minimum of Graduation, Masters in preferable in relevant field/ discipline.
- Experience of raising a charity’s profile through developing and delivering creative, engaging social media and digital communications.
- Experience of working in a creative communications role, marketing and/ or media.
- Experience of brand development and communications strategy design and implementation.
- Experience of managing a WordPress website CMS, including Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), site navigation, Gutenberg page structuring.
- Experience in copywriting, editing, and proofreading.
- Experience of videography, photography and editing.
- Experience of developing podcasts, case studies.
- Excellent writing skills and ability to consistently create content that is clear and engaging.
- High level of digital competence and creativity to support strategic goals.
- Demonstrable competence in Microsoft Word, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe InDesign.
- Proven media, marketing and communications experience.
- Experience in managing budgets.
- Experience in developing team strategies and plans.
- People management experience.
- Knowledge of varied funding sources and structures and BME and faith-based communities.
- Extensive knowledge of a wide range of fundraising, media engagement, marketing and effective communications techniques.
- Understanding of the Charity Act and other legislation affecting fundraising ventures.
- Inter-personal communication skills.
