Community Engagement Coordinator - Central Region, England

Location: The role will be home-based with extensive travel across the central England region and regular travel to other regions and BookTrust offices.

Contract: Permanent, Full-Time contract

Salary: £30,000 per annum

We work through every local authority, via children’s centres, schools, libraries and health professionals, to reach the families Our England Partnerships Team support our wide range of partners in a place-based way, working in and with local communities and the children and families most in need of support.

As a Community Engagement Coordinator, you will work within the regional partnerships team to support projects, pilots and pieces of learning to build greater place-based working with the BookTrust partner network who need us most.  Working with the Partnership Team, and colleagues from across BookTrust support a caseload of community work to support programme delivery, partnership network development and bespoke pieces of learning and development. Create excellent links into and understanding of the issues facing local communities and stakeholders to support BookTrust delivery and development work, and place based, community led initiatives.

We are looking for a positive and enthusiastic, credible ambassador with a demonstrable ability to develop relationships and make connections across a wide range of people and groups. You will have great communications skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of audiences, in writing, and in person. You may have worked within or across a local authority provider network, in outreach or in a local community or project within the third sector. You will have experience in and an interest in work with children and families experiencing deprivation and or children’s reading. You will be a highly motivated individual with the ability to work and travel unsupervised across multiple projects simultaneously and to work at pace, often to tight deadlines.

Context and Background

The NSPCC’s purpose is to prevent child abuse and neglect of children across the UK and Channel Islands. We have been fighting for childhood for the last 130 years and our organisational strategy for 2021-2031 is enabling the NSPCC to achieve greater change for children and inspiring others to join us in the fight for childhood.  

Our services help children who’ve been abused, protect children at risk and find the best ways to prevent child abuse from ever happening. We work directly with children and families through our national and regional hubs across the UK and Channel Islands. We also give support to thousands of adults and young people in need through the NSPCC Helpline and Childline.  We work with schools up and down the country through our Speak Out Stay Safe programme, helping children to keep themselves safe. And our projects such as Together for Childhood help children who’ve experienced abuse, support parents, and work to transform the way communities come together to prevent child cruelty. 

Our local services support children and families throughout the UK and Channel Islands. We provide therapeutic services to help children move on from abuse, as well as supporting parents and families in caring for their children. We help professionals make the best decisions for children and young people, and support communities to help prevent abuse from happening in the first place 

Job purpose

Responsible for supporting the development and delivery of the NSPCC’s sex and relationships education service ‘Talk Relationships’, in line with our strategy, to time and in budget.

Key relationships - Internal

· Reports to Associate Head of Development for Child Sexual Abuse (this will change to the Project Development Manager for Talk Relationships in 2025)

· Colleagues in Development and Implementation Team  

· Colleagues in other teams and directorates, including Participation, Policy and Public Affairs, Childline, Communications, Direct Services – in particular the schools service, Local Campaigns, and Income Generation.

Key relationships - External

· Other third sector organisations working in child protection, safeguarding, participation and online safety.

· Schools and education organisations. Professional bodies including education, social care and law enforcement.

Main duties and responsibilities

Project delivery

· Provide day to day support to the Project Development Manager to ensure the project plan is kept up to date, all workstreams have leads and tasks are on track

· Undertake tasks on workstreams as needed, this could include creation of content, contribution to service design and leading time limited projects

· Coordinate and attend internal and external meetings with a range of stakeholders, undertake tasks as appropriate to support the project

· Be able to work to tight deadlines and on multiple workstreams at the same time

Governance

· Support the creation of regular project reports and project board papers

· Ensure that project paperwork is up to date and that actions are undertaken

Quality

· Support the piloting and testing of services and approaches along with colleagues from research and evidence team

· Provide support to colleagues from the schools service and external partners in piloting but also in rolling out the Talk Relationships programme

· Support the RASCI quality assurance process

Relationships

· Manage a range of internal and external relationships with colleagues in other directorates and subject matter experts

· Manage activities with internal and external stakeholders such as holding events, briefings, focus groups and training

About the role

The Administrative Assistant (Advice and Information) provides important administrative support to our small, friendly Advice and Information Team, which includes:

CoramBAAF members’ Advice Line which covers all aspect of adoption, fostering, kinship and related areas. It is busy and popular with professionals, primarily social workers, who use the service. It offers telephone and email advice, prioritising speed and quality of service.

The Outbound Permanence service. This provides specialist advice by email, supported by legal research, country-specific written guidance and individual consultations where required, to local authorities making arrangements for children to live with relatives and friends overseas. The service also delivers regular training and events.

The Information Service, which supports the advice line and CoramBAAF members with up-to-date information, research, resources and statistics. Their role also includes managing CoramBAAF’s specialist library, the largest collection of adoption and fostering related resources in the UK, and producing the CoramBAAF Digest, a unique monthly current awareness briefing for everyone working in adoption, fostering, kinship and child welfare covering latest developments in legislation, parliamentary activity, policy, consultations, research, statistics and online resources throughout the UK. The Information Service is also an invaluable internal resource, assisting with survey design and data governance, and helping our consultants, trainers and authors to ensure that they have the latest and most accurate information for practice forum meetings, the guides we publish and the training we offer.

The role will primarily support the Outbound Permanence and Advice services. The role is an opportunity for someone with experience and business support/administrative skills, good attention to detail, customer service focus and a flexible approach.

Working hours can be discussed, but to include Thurs/Fri (Friday am specifically).

Shannon Trust  Prison Facilitator - Bank Staff (East Region)

Do you want to join an organisation committed to addressing illiteracy amongst people in prison?

Shannon Trust are delighted to be working with His Majesty’s Prison & Probation Service (HMPPS) to provide peer-led literacy and numeracy programmes across a number of prisons.  To ensure the continuation of our programmes during times of staff absence, we are now seeking to recruit a Prison Facilitator on a bank working basis to work across the East region. Working closely with prisons and their staff, people in prison, Shannon Trust volunteers and mentors, this post will support with the delivery and development of our literacy and numeracy programme in the North region, maximising opportunities for people in prison to learn to read.

Ideally you will have some experience of prison settings underpinned by the ability to build relationships quickly and personal qualities that include resilience, determination and a problem-solving approach. You will also have a willingness to travel, sometimes at short notice, to provide short or long term cover within the region including some overnight stays.

This role will be prison-based and will cover a number of prisons across our East Region including: HMP Wayland, HMP Norwich, HMP Bure, HMP Chelmsford, HMP Whitemoor, HMP Bedford, HMP Littlehey, HMP Gartree, HMP Leicester and HMP Whatton. This is a bank role and so the number of days to be worked will vary and are not guaranteed.

Introduction to Carers Voice Norfolk & Waveney

Carers Voice Norfolk & Waveney is a user-led charity providing the independent voice of Carers in the way their services are designed, developed and delivered. Its vision is to ensure that unpaid Carers throughout Norfolk & Waveney are valued, recognised, and supported with equal access to a good quality of life that is not prejudiced by their caring role.

Carers Voice Norfolk & Waveney facilitates a countywide strategic partnership group and five locality network groups, all of which meet quarterly. The organisation is led by a board of trustees, all of whom have lived experience of caring, and who delegate day-to-day management to the Chief Officer who is supported by the Carers Voice Co-Production and Project Officer and the Membership & Administration Officer.

Carers Voice Norfolk & Waveney works in partnership with the Norfolk and Waveney Integrated Care Board which provides the health and social care for Norfolk and Waveney together with statutory and voluntary organisations. We work closely with Norfolk County Council and the commissioned countywide support service for Carers, Carers Matter Norfolk.

Coproduction is central to everything we do at Carers Voice. Carers are ‘experts’ through their lived experience and Carers Voice works to ensure Carers are able to influence change regarding the services, policies and decisions that affect them and the people they care for. Coproduction is an equal relationship between people who use services and people responsible for services. Decision making is shared in planning, design, delivery and monitoring.

The role will be carried out mainly in weekday office hours and can be flexible to suit the right person. Very occasional evening and weekend work will be required. The role will predominantly involve working from home. Equipment such as mobile phone and laptop, will be supplied. We are looking at the potential of arranging in person meetings which would require some travel within Norfolk & Waveney. A mileage allowance will be paid.

Main purpose of the role:

We are looking for a Meetings Co-ordinator to join our team.

Are you a great communicator, with first-class organisational skills, and experience of co-ordinating meetings?

Do you have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish rapport, empathise and build trust with Carers from diverse backgrounds.

The Meetings Co-ordinator will lead the co-ordination and development of the five Local Carer Involvement Meetings and be responsible for facilitating/ chairing these meetings.  These meetings are an opportunity for Carers to share their experiences and to come together with practitioners to co-produce solutions to gaps in support. The role involves supporting a network of unpaid Carers in Norfolk & Waveney. You will be helping Carers to have a say on issues that matter to them; strengthening the ‘Carers Voice.’ You will play a key role in outreach, engagement and advocacy, to ensure that Carers Voices are heard.

Main Relationships:

The role will maintain effective connections with: Carers and Past Carers (individuals and groups), Co-production & Project Officer, Membership & Administration Officer, Adult Social Services Operational Business Lead and integrated health and care practitioners, service providers and user-led groups and VCSE organisations and statutory bodies such as Healthwatch Norfolk.

Tasks:

1. Networks / Community Development

1. Lead (operationally) the coordination and development of five Local Carer Involvement Meetings to give Carers a space to share their voice in the design, delivery and evaluation of services and support which affect them, ensuring Carers feel heard and supported.

2. Chair the five Local Carer Involvement Meetings quarterly, providing organisational and facilitation support, including aspects of administration (setting and distributing notes, agendas and documentation and taking forward and reporting back on actions). Minute taking will be provided by another member of staff whenever possible.

3. Develop the membership of Locality Networks to ensure good representation from Carers, Carer peer support groups, practitioners, service managers and commissioners.

4. Building networks between local services and Carers. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including healthcare professionals, social services agencies, and community organisations.

5.  Provide a quarterly report on the Local Carer Involvement Meetings to the County Wide Partnership Board and wider Integrated Care System

6. Build and grow Local Carer Involvement Meetings and the Carers Voice membership

7. Support communications and promotion of the Carer Involvement Meetings and involvement opportunities locally, regionally and nationally

Support with identifying local, regional and national involvement opportunities (e.g. consultations, workshops and co-production activities), feeding information through the Local Carer involvement Meetings and Carers Voice membership, providing Carers the opportunity to have their voice heard.

4. Volunteer Recruitment and Management

12. Support the ongoing development of a ‘Carers Ambassadors’ programme. Carers Ambassadors are volunteers within Carers Voice who have personal lived experience of caring. They are members of Carers Voice Norfolk & Waveney and regularly contribute to the development and design of services used by Carers within health and social care. Their experience means they are linked in and familiar with services for Carers across the County.

5.  Other

13. Proactively work with other team members to ensure co-production is embedded in all the work Carers Voice undertakes.

14. Deputise for other members of staff as required and briefed.

15. Contribute to the ongoing monitoring, evaluation, and review of the support for Carers within Norfolk and Waveney

16. Help to capture and publicise Carers Stories to raise awareness of Carers

17. Develop ways to involve and engage Carers with activities happening in the wider health and social care sector so that co-production takes place.

The Oasis Hub Waterloo team are currently looking for a Foodbank Trusts & Corporate Fundraiser to raise much-needed funds for our Waterloo Foodbank and other strategic partners.

The successful applicant would be responsible for writing funding bids for trusts, and also developing relationships with local businesses, to increase our unrestricted corporate income.
