Refugee Council – Philanthropy Manager

Refugee Council is seeking an experienced philanthropy specialist to develop and grow the Refugee Council’s Philanthropy relationships and programme and deliver an ambitious Philanthropy strategy.

Refugee Council is a leading charity supporting refugees and people seeking asylum to rebuild their lives in safety here in the UK.  Providing practical, hands on support, their award winning services include welcoming refugees into local communities across the country, providing specialist children’s services – with a particular focus on refugee children who arrive here alone, helping people to navigate the asylum system, and supporting people to access housing and employment.  Evidence from services is then used to also inform the charity’s leading policy and influencing work, including campaigning for a fairer and kinder refugee protection system.  The charity works with more than 14,000 men, women and children every year.

This role will be a critical part of the Philanthropy & Partnerships Team and presents an exciting opportunity to grow Refugee Council’s established Philanthropy programme. The role will be responsible for delivering and creating bespoke development plans, supported by engaging cultivation and stewardship activities to secure increased funding from existing and new donors. We are looking for a part time Information & Advocacy Community Support Worker in Scotland.  You will be home based living in the North of Scotland.

You will ensure that service users (children and adults) and their families, receive high quality support, from the point of diagnosis and throughout their journey, and will assist them to access funding, equipment and care and support that they are entitled to. Some travel will be required to attend meetings and events outside of Scotland. The IO will lead investigations, and will give the complainant (who may be a child, young person or adult) the opportunity to express their view, ensure the child or young person’s rights and best interests are at the centre of the investigation and that the investigation/review process is open and transparent. They write a report on the investigation/review, which is submitted to the referring agency.

The Job Description document sets out the expectations for an Associate Independent Person for Complaints (IPC) who is approved by Coram Voice. IPCs are independent, freelance and responsible for their own work. Nevertheless, IPCs are accountable to the organisation for their professional standards and are expected to comply with Coram Voice Code of Ethics and Practice Guidelines.

This role is essential for the RSPCA to further safeguard sick, injured, and orphaned wildlife and achieve the RSPCA's objective of securing better legal protection for wildlife in animal welfare establishments (wildlife rescue and rehabilitation centres). 

Currently, anyone can set up a rescue/rehabilitation centre or sanctuary with no oversight. This can lead to these establishments becoming overwhelmed despite good intentions. 

This role will develop and implement an advocacy strategy to achieve statutory regulation of these facilities, to protect the welfare of wild animals. 

The post-holder will work closely with the Veterinary and Operations teams to ensure the RSPCA's rescue and rehabilitation standards are based on the latest scientific evidence.

This role will achieve measurable improvements in welfare standards and legal protections, reinforce the RSPCA's commitment to leading positive change and strengthen the Society's position as an influential leader in this field.

Main purpose of the role:

The Community Leader (Director) leads the Community in living the mission of L’Arche in our community life, by providing outstanding, person-centred and financially sustainable care and support services, by support for shared community and spirituality, and by engagement with the wider community around us.

Are you a leader who can:

• Inspire and lead a diverse and talented community of over 100 individuals with and without learning disabilities -  people we support, employees, volunteers, long-term friends and members.
• Oversee and develop £2.5 million worth of registered care, supported living, and day services, ensuring compliance with CQC requirements, alignment with the L’Arche vision and values, and maintaining financial sustainability.
• Lead a team of 70 employees through strategic direction, effective processes and service delivery, and emotionally intelligent, collaborative, forward-thinking people management.
• Represent L’Arche London externally in fundraising efforts, outreach to build local partnerships, and participation in L’Arche UK leadership and governance forums.

• Embody and advocate for the L’Arche ethos of cultivating deep, long-term, and mutually transformative relationships between individuals with and without learning disabilities.
• The L’Arche London Community includes nine supported living services, one registered care home, and two day workshops, serving 34 individuals—all located within a mile of West Norwood Station.

The Role

• Lead a community that intentionally responds to the needs, choices and context of our members, and is faithful to the L’Arche UK Vision and Values, and Mission statement, and to a co-created Community Mandate and plan.
• Maintain and enhance high-quality, person-centred care, support, and housing for people with learning disabilities, both at home and in our day services. .
• Ensure the Community’s financial sustainability through robust financial planning and management. 
• Foster a culture that maximises the voice and power for people with learning disabilities, and builds listening and collaboration between Community members with and without learning disabilities (including through an active Community Support Group, Community Council, Community Gatherings, listening circles, and other forums).
• Lead and manage a diverse, committed, and engaged leadership team to achieve objectives, set a positive culture, and support the personal and professional growth of our leaders.
• Cultivate an open, creative, and inclusive spiritual life, inviting everyone in the Community to deepen their collective growth.  Support and encourage events that build community belonging.
• Model, advocate for, and embrace the L’Arche ethos of deep, long-term, and mutually transforming relationships between people with and without learning disabilities.
• Be a visible representative of L’Arche locally, developing relationships with community houses, surrounding neighbourhoods, local authorities, professional organisations, schools, faith communities, and L’Arche worldwide.
• Contribute to the national work programmes of L’Arche UK, and collaborate with Community Leaders of other L’Arche Communities, to share skills, best practice and resources. 

About you:

• Senior leadership experience in support to adults with learning disabilities  (or transferable skills and experience in a closely-related field).
• Experience leading and managing an organisation to deliver results, and to change in response to risks and opportunities.
• Experience leading and developing diverse teams to flourish, individually and together.
• Good financial planning skills and experience successfully managing a substantial budget.
• Evidence of the ability to think strategically, and work collaboratively to turn strategies into deliverable and measurable plans.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the team as an Individual Giving Manager, a new role which will grow our income from Individual Giving (including donations, appeals, regular giving, gift aid, in-memory giving and legacies/gifts in wills), across a range of in-person, print and digital channels and campaigns.

The successful candidate will lead and develop the individual giving and legacy team to deliver on specific income targets through a range of activities and develop our Gifts in Wills and In Memory giving opportunities as well as our Mid-and High Level Giving Programmes.

About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join our team to work in Cornwall to promote and enable - walking, wheeling, cycling, and public transport as the sustainable way of travelling to schools, workplaces, and for journeys in the local community.

As the Project Officer, you will be innovating, developing, and delivering tailor-made packages of activities and promotional material to encourage and enable active travel. 

You will work in close partnership with Cornwall Council, public transport providers, Sustrans’ Behaviour Change & Engagement team and colleagues to support the development and delivery of a countywide Workplace Travel Challenge. This will help ensure that as many people as possible can benefit from the project and that more local journeys can be travelled actively. 

Due to the nature of the role, a full DBS is required. 

We offer true hybrid working, with a mix of working from the Authority office 1-2 days a week and the opportunity for home working. 

This role will require travel and work at locations as necessary to undertake the project on behalf of Sustrans. You will be occasionally travelling across the Cornwall region.

About you

You will be passionate about active travel and supporting and motivating others to make positive changes to everyday journeys, to benefit themselves, their local community, and the environment. You will be self-motivated and able to work independently to manage a varied workload. 

You should have experience in building relationships with wide range of organisations, groups and individuals ideally having worked on physical activity, behavioural change projects, a wide range of people including young people. 

You will be a skilled communicator, able to adapt your approach to engage and meet the needs of diverse audiences and have experience of planning and delivering engagement activities and promotional events.

Praxis has recently significantly scaled up its campaigns and communications work. We are looking for a new Stories and Media Coordinator to join our Fundraising and Communications team, to help ensure that people with lived experience of the immigration system are the driving force of our dynamic communications work, whilst also building the organisation’s profile and amplifying our systems-change work.
