Job description

Are you skilled in both quantitative and qualitative research, with the ability to analyse data and uncover meaningful insights?

Can you turn complex data into clear and impactful messages?

Do you excel at engaging with stakeholders and delivering insights through impactful communication?

If so, this is the opportunity for you!

StepChange Debt Charity is seeking a Research and Insight Officer to join our External Affairs team. You’ll play a critical role in supporting the development and delivery of research projects, helping us build a deeper understanding of problem debt in the UK.

What you’ll do:

In this role, you will be at the heart of our research efforts analysing and interpreting primary and secondary quantitative and qualitative data. You’ll manage and deliver key research publications, such as our annual Statistics Yearbook, and oversee our regular monthly reports. From conducting client surveys to producing high quality insights, you’ll ensure that our work is backed by strong evidence and communicates our vision effectively.

You will also engage with external stakeholders to collaborate on joint research initiatives and represent the charity at external events and meetings. Internally, you’ll work closely with colleagues to maximise the use of client data and support the integration of insights into our broader policy and influencing work.

About You:

To excel in this role, you’ll need a strong understanding of research methodologies, with demonstrable experience in using both qualitative and quantitative research techniques. You’ll also have knowledge of common statistical concepts to allow for rich interpretation of our data. You’ll be a confident user of tools like Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint, with the ability to design and script surveys, analyse data, and present findings to diverse audiences. Project management skills, excellent organisational abilities, and the capability to meet deadlines are essential.

At StepChange, we offer a supportive and inclusive environment, with opportunities for professional growth and the chance to make a tangible impact in society. If you’re ready to bring your skills and passion to this vital role, we’d love to hear from you.

Equality, diversity, and inclusion:

Equality, diversity, and inclusion are incredibly important to us; we have a culture of belonging. We’re always looking to increase the diversity of our workforce to ensure we can provide the best service possible for everyone. It’s not just about the professional experience you bring – we’re interested in who you are and your potential. If there’s an adjustment to our recruitment process that would help you to be your best, speak to our team and they’ll be happy to help.
