An exciting opportunity to join the Rank Foundation team in London or Penrith as Alumni Development Officer through the Time to Shine leadership programme. This new post has been created to support the development and implementation of a range of activities to engage and connect with the Rank Fellows to foster long lasting relationships. The postholder will play a pivotal role in strengthening relationships between the Foundation and its alumni community.
The position is offered on a 12-month, full time basis, and the postholder must be able to join early January. The post-holder will be part of the Rank Foundation’s Time to Shine (T2S) leadership programme. As part of the Time to Shine 2025 Cohort, you will be supported through learning conferences, leadership days, action learning and will have access to career relevant training and qualifications.

Key accountabilities:
Alumni Programme Research & Development:
- To assist with the identification of and engagement with the wider alumni community
- To implement a range of activities to engage with Rank’s alumni community;
- To design, plan and deliver Fellowship events, webinars, and other programmes that promote networking and professional development opportunities among Fellows/alumni;
- To create and develop relationships with the Fellows/alumni to increase involvement in the Foundation’s activities;
- To administer the mentoring programme connecting older Fellows with younger ones at the beginning of their professional careers;
- To liaise with the Comms team to raise the social media profile of the Rank Fellowship Alumni Network;
- To serve as the primary point of contact for alumni inquiries, communications, and requests;
- To be the secretariat for the Fellows Leadership Team, drafting agendas, minute taking, and following up on actions
- To design, plan and deliver School Leadership events with support from the Finance & Operations Officer
Data & Reporting:
- Manage the Fellowship database, ensuring it is kept up to date
- Send out digital surveys, monitor and track key deliverables;
- Collect achievements and contributions from Fellows to showcase impact;
- Collate and prepare reports based on survey outcomes to assess the effectiveness of the programme.

Support Workers will provide support to customers to help them develop the life skills they require to meet the assessed needs of the customers of the service. In some services, this will include providing physical, domestic, emotional and social care. They will work with customers to promote social inclusion and alongside other members of the team to promote independent living, encouraging customers to maximise their skills and choices.

What you'll do:
If a need arises, deliver all aspects of support to enable a customer to develop independent living skills as appropriate to the individual needs of the customer. In some services, this will include delivering personal and physical care as appropriate
Support customers to undertake all domestic tasks wherever possible, including practical assistance where they have not yet developed the skills, to ensure customers enjoy a high quality of accommodation
Participate in the support planning and risk management, as facilitated by the lead Support Worker
Carry out security duties to ensure the safety of the customers and premises
Monitor the CCTV throughout the shift
Enable customers to make full use of community facilities by providing support as directed
Carry out support duties to enable customers to integrate into the community including e.g. accompanying the customer to attend benefit agency appointments and meetings, go shopping, to enquire at colleges about possible courses, to visit various public amenities
Report any observations relating to customers welfare
Maintain records as required at the project under the direction of the Support Workers/ management
Participate in team meetings/reviews and the general development of the service
Undertake any other duties consistent with the grade and nature of the post as may be reasonably assigned

The Justice First Fellowship (JFF) is a scheme offering two-year, fully-funded legal training positions and wider development opportunities for the next generation of social justice lawyers. Established by the Legal Education Foundation, since 2014 JFF has supported 125 Fellows to qualify, with the vast majority still working in social justice law. As a JFF Fellow at Shelter, you will complete your legal training with us and the cost of undertaking any mandatory training to qualify will be covered as well. You will also develop a project in collaboration with Shelter and benefit from professional development and wider skills training via JFF alongside wellbeing support. And you will become part of the JFF network, a movement of lawyers using the law for social justice.
About the role
You will be based in our Birmingham Hub, working under the housing and public law legal aid contracts as well as having the opportunity to support Shelter’s test cases and interventions.
The training will give you the opportunity to develop and apply the skills you will need as a qualified solicitor. These include advocacy and oral presentation, case and transaction management, client care and practice support, communication, dispute resolution, drafting, interviewing and advising, legal research and negotiation.
Your role will support the solicitors within Birmingham hub to play a key part in tackling housing injustice and unfair housing practices. You will develop your skills through a mixture of completing work unsupervised, assisting others and observing experienced practitioners.
You will work with colleagues in the Birmingham hub to ensure people in our communities are aware of their rights, know how to enforce them and represent people who need specialist legal advice.
About You
You will need to have passed the Legal Practice Course or have an undergraduate degree and passed SQE part 1 and be able to demonstrate specialist knowledge and the technical requirements needed for the role. You will be able to reason critically and demonstrate an intellectual aptitude. If you have previous experience of housing advice, litigation and/or legal aid this would be an advantage but it is not essential.
