Our Governance Manager is responsible for managing and coordinating all governance work, providing support to the Board, CEO and Executive Team in all matters relating to governance and in particular for the Board and Committee meetings.

You’ll ensure that transactional activities are accurately completed within specified timeframes and co-ordinate all committees of the YHA Board and advise on and implement good governance practice.

What will you be doing?

• Lead and advising on all matters relating to governance including the constitution, memorandum and articles of association, standing orders and codes of conduct, including leading the implementation of any changes agreed by the Board.
• Provide best practice governance advice and support to the Chair, Board, CEO and Executive team, ensuring regulatory/codes of practice compliance, ongoing review of consultations on charity governance and promoting good governance in practice.
• Provide governance support to the Board, Audit and Risk Committee, Finance Committee, People, Remuneration, Impact and Engagement Committee, and the National Officers and Committee Chairs meeting and any other meetings linked to governance.
• Monitor changes in relevant governance legislation and the regulatory environment and take appropriate action.
• Project manage the organisation and delivery of the Annual General Meeting
• Plan and co-ordinate the annual Trustee induction programme.
• Responsible for the administration of the Company, for example: maintaining statutory company records and making the appropriate governance filings to Companies House and the Charity Commission.
• You’ll be the Company Secretary for YHA (England and Wales) and YHA Trading Limited.

What Skills and Experience do you need?

We are looking for two Youth Workers who are passionate about working with vulnerable children and young people who will work closely with other Youth Workers under the oversight and guidance of the Young Lives Project Manager. The successful candidates will deliver activity sessions, support sessions and do some administrative work. They will also play an important role in developing our delivery model and other operational planning to improve the Young Lives service.

The Role

In this newly created role of Programme Lead, you will be responsible for working closely with pregnant mums and Maternity Mates volunteers to provide tailored support to ensure each pregnancy is a positive experience. You will be responsible for the assessments to determine the support needs of pregnant mums, matching each with her volunteer Maternity Mate; whilst mentoring each volunteer through her journey with mum to provide the very best support.

About the role

We are looking for a monitoring and evaluation health program specialist within NTDs, with excellent mHealth experience and skills in using mobile survey and system tools to support programme staff and partners across Nigeria.

As mHealth Project Officer, you will be experienced with working with NTDs databases, WHO supported information systems, monitoring and evaluation (M&E) tools and mapping. You will be skilled using digital tools, mHealth survey and system tools, such as DHIS 2, ArcGIS, QGIS, Stata, SPSS and able to provide technical support to a high level on these and other mobile applications.

We have received funding from The National Lottery Community Fund to deliver an exciting new programme, aiming to improve the experience and continuity of hospice care for young people with life-limiting conditions transitioning from children's to adult services.

You will provide clinical leadership of this UK-wide programme, empowering young people, hospices and system partners to overcome the inequities of care experienced by patients and families throughout this transition. 

You will become a crucial part of the Programmes Directorate at Hospice UK. This team is responsible for areas of real relevance and importance to our hospices’ membership, including: commissioning support; data, research and evidence; clinical and non-clinical projects; learning platforms: sharing good practice; and a well-regarded and commercially successful portfolio of conferences, including our flagship national conference.

You will bring the clinical leadership needed to deliver this exciting new programme. You will lead our young person’s forum and provide invaluable mentorship to hospices. Supported throughout by our Senior Programme Manager and Team Administrator, you will further develop our Transition Community of Practice and help us collate and share programme data across the sector. You will lead on partnerships and strategic relationships, with Together for Short Lives and other decision-makers across our sector. When representing Hospice UK and our programme externally, you will offer clinical expertise leadership within the field of Transition. 

You will have senior palliative care experience, working in the field of transition. You will have led clinical programmes across systems and/or regions, and experience supporting organisations with Quality Improvement projects. You will be an excellent and influential communicator, who embraces working with data while maintaining a strategic overview.

The role

We’re looking for a passionate and experienced Youth Work Manager to lead our Youth Work programme and team of youth workers and volunteers.

Working closely with the CEO, you’ll take the lead on creating and delivering our full Youth Work programme. This includes overseeing a varied schedule of youth clubs, sports sessions, and events, while also planning and delivering sessions yourself. You’ll ensure all work is in line with agreed delivery plans, and you’ll regularly report progress back to the CEO.

A key part of your role will be supporting and managing youth workers and volunteers, making sure they’re well equipped and confident in their roles. You’ll organise regular team meetings, supervision sessions, and training opportunities, and ensure that all activities are properly recorded, evaluated, and reported.

You’ll be responsible for making sure safeguarding policies and procedures are implemented effectively across the programme. You’ll also contribute to fundraising efforts, helping to secure the resources needed to keep our work going strong.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee the Youth Work Program's development and delivery.
• Collaborate with staff and young people to develop and agree on delivery plans and budgets.
• Record and evaluate all program delivery following our procedures.
• Recruit, supervise, and support volunteers and staff, leading team meetings as necessary.
• Deliver timely reports for the CEO and funders.
• Conduct proper risk assessments for all activities, adhering to BYC policies including safeguarding and equality.
• Manage budgets and expenditures for specific program areas.
• Record staff hours in coordination with the Operations Manager.
• Participate in training, supervision, staff meetings, and external meetings, and undertake other duties commensurate with the role's responsibilities.

Essential qualifications and experience

• Level 3 JNC qualified or relevant youth work qualification and 3-4 years of experience.
• Experience working with young people (aged 13 - 19 years old) in youth work settings.
• Experience in developing Youth Work Programmes.
• Experience in managing staff teams.

Essential skills and abilities

• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with staff, volunteers, partner organisations and young people.
• Good organisational, planning, writing, budgeting and administration skills.
• Understanding and experience of monitoring and evaluation in a youth work setting.
• Politically and creatively aware with a good understanding of Youth Work principles.
• Ability to challenge, support and reflect appropriately and effectively.
• Ability to prioritise effectively and enjoy multitasking in a busy environment.
• A clear understanding of safeguarding young people and how to maintain appropriate professional boundaries in a Youth Work setting.
• A good understanding of equality and diversity issues and the ability to challenge discriminatory behaviour.

Brighton Youth Centre (BYC) has been at the heart of youth work in Brighton & Hove since 1917. It’s one of the city’s longest-running youth services, and today it’s a lively, welcoming space used by over 1,500 young people each year. More than half of those who come through our doors are aged 16 and over, making BYC especially important for older teenagers.

• Strong analytical skills with a meticulous approach to detail and accuracy.

• Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities, with experience working collaboratively with non-finance stakeholders.

• Ability to work independently in a small, agile organisation

Desirable experience:

• Experience working in a small business, not-for-profit, charity, NGO, public sector, or finance organisation.
