 Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust (ACT) is the dedicated NHS hospital charity for Cambridge University Hospitals, also fondly known locally as Addenbrooke’s. The Charity works to fund projects and facilities that are beyond the boundaries of the NHS to achieve the highest possible standards and outcomes in patient experience, clinical care, research and education - helping to find potential cures and save lives locally, nationally and worldwide.

Addenbrooke’s has embarked on a bold journey of transformation. As part of this, two brand-new hospitals will be built: the Cambridge Cancer Research Hospital and the Cambridge Children’s Hospital. These two specialist hospitals are being designed with patients at their heart and will combine first-class clinical expertise with world-class biomedical research to transform care for cancer patients and children regionally, nationally and internationally.  

To make this vision a reality, ACT has embarked upon two ambitious multi-year, multi-million pound philanthropic campaigns to support the development of these two new hospitals. It is rare to have one project with an ambition of this kind, and so for two to be built at the same time, no stone must be left unturned and the Charity are looking for two ambitious new fundraisers who shares a passion for their cause, one with a focus on individual philanthropists and the other with a focus on strategic partnerships.

The role of Senior Philanthropy Lead is a critical one for the Charity, driving income from individuals with the capacity to give at the six and seven figure level. Reporting to the Co-Director of Philanthropy and managing two Philanthropy Leads, the postholder will take over a multi-million pound pipeline, whilst also driving new business. This role is fixed-term for two years.

The role of Senior Trusts & Strategic Partnerships Lead is a brand-new, permanent position and an essential one in helping to seek and grow significant philanthropic partnerships for the Charity. Reporting to the Co-Director of Philanthropy and managing a Trusts Lead, the postholder will refine and implement the fundraising strategy and develop a priority prospect list of trusts and grants.

In both cases, candidates will be a motivated and experienced fundraising professionals who can hit the ground running and lead by example. They will possess a track record in achieving complex major gifts, excellent interpersonal skills, a collaborative and creative approach and the ability to inspire stakeholders at all levels.

As an Associate Director in the Paid Media Team, you'll oversee the execution of digital advertising campaigns across clients ranging from leading UK and global charities and UN bodies, to global brands and their CSR programmes.

You will know how to drive strong performance metrics for clients, whilst thinking holistically about the brand and how these metrics contribute to wider conversation about marketing budgets and long-term growth objectives. You will be a senior member of our media practice in London, supporting the Media Director in shaping processes and innovating our client channel mix to drive results.

Switching seamlessly from a client presentation to writing an insightful analysis of campaign performance, and rolling up your sleeves to launch advertising campaigns in new platforms are no big deal for you. A day in the life

• Translate clients’ strategic visions into media objectives and KPIs to accomplish a wide range of client objectives including direct response (lead gen and fundraising), awareness, persuasion, and advocacy.
• Analyse ongoing and historical performance data to identify opportunities for improvement, make strategic recommendations, and generate reporting and insights to drive optimisation.
• Have a strong POV on measurement, attribution, and conversion tracking, and apply that knowledge to strategic recommendations and ongoing campaign management.
• Participate in (and frequently lead) client-facing interactions — you’ll be the subject-matter expert for the platforms you manage.

Some things we're looking for

• 6-8 years experience in a hands-on paid media planning and buying role using a mix of digital channels (Social, Search, Display, Video, Audio, etc) 
• Demonstrated experience translating client business goals into cohesive media strategies and specific KPIs, and a record executing campaigns that delivered on those goals.

THE ROLE

This is a senior leadership role at The Girls’ Network with strategic and operational responsibility for the successful delivery of our mentoring and ambassador programmes. You will lead a geographically dispersed, home-based programme team, ensuring high-quality, girl-centred delivery that meets our organisational goals and supports our long-term impact. As the charity’s Safeguarding Lead, you’ll oversee safeguarding strategy and decision-making, and play a vital role in championing best practice across the organisation. You’ll also be accountable for the mentor journey - from recruitment and engagement to retention, and act as our in-house expert on mentoring and impactful interventions for girls and young women. With a strong focus on continuous improvement, innovation, and data-driven decision making, this role is key to shaping and evolving our programme offer to meet the needs of the girls we serve.

Key Activities

Programme Delivery

• Operational ownership and accountability for the successful delivery of The Girls’ Network programmes, in line with our strategic aims and operational targets.
• Ownership and accountability for operational safeguarding decision-making in relation to programme delivery.
• Leadership of implementation and compliance of processes and procedures in the programme team, to ensure best practice, quality and consistency.
• Be accountable for our volunteer mentor community, including the mentor experience, engagement and retention. Ownership of our mentor recruitment retention strategy and ongoing activity.
• The organisation’s subject matter expert in relation to mentoring programmes and impactful interventions for girls and young women more widely, to inform the work we do.
• Ownership of data utilisation for effective ongoing monitoring and evaluation of the programme, to inform continuous improvement and progress to enable reporting to key stakeholders, including the CEO and trustee board.
• Oversight of the Ambassador Programme, including developments and enhancements to our delivery, in line with our strategy. This includes improved integration of the ambassador community to the rest of our programmes, enabling wider participation and great long-term impact.

Design and Development

• Develop and implement the programme’s operational delivery plan, in line with broader strategic objectives.
• Introduce an effective way of making iterative programmatic changes to enable continuous improvement and ensure we deliver a programme of consistently high quality, that remains current and flexes to the needs of the girls we support.
• Ensure a girl-centred approach to all programme delivery and development.
• Work closely with the Fundraising team to align partnership activities, managing high profile relationships relevant to the programme and identifying opportunities for joint-working and income generation.
• Identify needs and opportunities for innovation and growth and pilot new programme elements to deliver impact and, when appropriate, revenue

Team Leadership

• Effective leadership and direction of a programme team who are entirely home-based and widely geographically dispersed.
• Line management of senior members of the programme delivery team, the Programme Co-ordinator and MERL Manager.
• Foster a team environment in-keeping with our organisational values.
• Ownership of the professional development of programme delivery team members. This includes enabling new members of the team to have the tools to deliver effectively, as well as the ongoing development of existing staff.
• Ownership of recruitment of programme team roles, with support from the People & Culture Manager.

Safeguarding

• Named Safeguarding Lead for the charity with ultimate accountability for Safeguarding decisions.
• Working with Safeguarding Officers, ensure policies are kept up-to-date and reflect best practice.
• Review any key training and material, especially that which is shared externally.
• Ensure all staff and trustees undergo the appropriate training needed to meet their safeguarding responsibilities.
• Overall responsibility for the safeguarding phone, and any rota established for this.
• Management and training.

Wider organisational objectives

• Advocate and promote The Girls’ Network at every opportunity - for example, through local media, PR activities and social media.
• Build relationships across the organisation and outside it, always embodying and role-modelling the charity’s strategic direction and key messages.

Essential skills, knowledge and attributes

• Someone who embodies The Girls’ Network values and can provide inclusive, supportive and effective programme and team leadership.

How we work with Employers and Higher Education Institutions

At Unifrog, we partner with universities and employers to help them connect with our global network of highly engaged students, teachers and careers leaders.

The role and responsibilities

As New Business Lead for Employer and HE Partnerships, you will play a pivotal role in driving Unifrog’s growth in our employer and higher education markets. You’ll need to be target driven to help create a wider network of universities and employers to support Unifrog students from around the world to find their best next step.

You will be given support by both the HE and Employer teams but will also have the autonomy to lead your own campaigns and projects. 

You will be able to develop your skills, strengths and interests. We always look to make space for our team to grow within the company, and we have a general policy of promoting within.

Your key responsibilities:

• Design tailored campaigns involving emails, phone calls, webinars and social media, to target employers and higher education institutions in a smart and engaging way.

• Communicate with interested employers and higher education institutions to explain the work we do at Unifrog and the partnerships we offer in a compelling manner to secure online demonstrations for our Employer and Higher Education Partnership Managers.

• Attend conferences (sometimes overseas) to promote the work we do at Unifrog and network with relevant stakeholders in the employer and higher education sectors.

• Be the first port of call for partnership/collaboration enquiries from employers and higher education institutions.

• Work with our team of Employer and Higher Education Partnership Managers to understand the challenges they face and how you can support them in growing their partner bases.

• Analyse data from the Unifrog platform to inform your research around suitable higher education institutions and employers that we don’t work with but who would benefit from a partnership with us. 

• Support with other projects such as organising conferences, analysing our competitors, and reviewing our marketing collateral.

• Communicate information about our line up of online and in-person events to non-partner HE institutions, to secure their attendance at these events.

• Gain an in-depth understanding of our competitors in the market.
   

Working together

You’ll be working with the HE and Employer teams, alongside the Partnerships Director for International Schools and HE (who will be your line manager), the Partnerships Director for UK Schools and Employers, the Head of Employer Partnerships, and the Head of HE Partnerships. Your projects will also see you collaborating closely with the Marketing team.

What will you be doing?

We are looking to recruit a committed individual to support the delivery and development of our youth justice practice work, specifically to provide support to police and youth justice services in the delivery of youth diversion. 

Youth diversion schemes are a way of addressing low-level criminal behaviour without putting children through the formal criminal justice processing (either through out of court resolutions (OOCRS) or prosecution) that can result in a criminal conviction and other negative consequences. These schemes operate for under-18s in a variety of different models across the country.

Since 2014, we have provided direct support to over 70 YJSs and their local police forces to develop their diversion schemes, as well as supporting the development of new schemes. In this role, you will help provide this support, which will include: delivering multi-agency workshops, assessing practice against the evidence base, reviewing guidance and protocols and providing recommendations for improvement.

The role will also include:

• Identifying and supporting areas for practice development;

• Working closely with Youth Endowment Fund, Youth Justice Board and the National Police Chiefs’ Council;

• Developing practical tools to support practitioners;

• Presenting at external events;

• Contributing to the design and facilitation of practice sharing events and workshops;

• Engaging with practitioners, stakeholders and service users to shape delivery and represent the Centre;

• Working with the Centre’s teams to ensure practice work feeds into our research, policy and communication activities.

The Practice Officer will have experience of:

• Operational/frontline experience of working in the youth justice system and/or in policing (essential);

Requirements

The post holder needs to have:

• Eligibility to work in the UK legally.

Whilst we do not require the post holder to be office based, you must be willing and able to travel regularly within the UK.

Background

Chapter One is a dynamic, growing charity with a vision of a world in which all children have the literacy skills needed to thrive. Our mission is to close the reading gap by providing children with one-to-one support at the time they need it most. We work in eleven areas/regions of the UK and will support 3250 children in 2024-25.

Our unique Online Reading Volunteer programme pairs struggling five to seven-year old (KS1) readers with reading support volunteers who are working professionals. The volunteer ask is very focused: readers commit 30 minutes a week to read with a child using a bespoke digital platform for an entire academic year. The results are transformative, boosting children's reading confidence and ability.

From a school perspective, online reading volunteers provide direct, meaningful literacy support for up to 10 pupils per class. The programme is particularly suitable for communities where it might be challenging to find parents and other volunteers who can commit to physically visiting schools to boost reading.

Job Summary

Chapter One is seeking a Manchester Programme Manager who is an excellent communicator and is able both to motivate and support schools and teachers to implement our online reading volunteers programme, and also to ensure that the programme’s impact and benefit to children facing disadvantage communities is maximised throughout the academic year.

The post is ideal for someone looking for part-time, flexible, term-time only work from a home base, but who is also able to travel frequently around the Greater Manchester area to visit schools.The postholder will be joining a team of established Programme Managers (also part-time) who work in different parts of the UK and will need to have some flexibility to work additional hours during busy autumn months, and conversely to work fewer hours during quieter periods of the year.

Key Responsibilities:

• Effectively explain Chapter One’s online reading volunteer programme and its benefits to school leaders and teachers

• Install, setup and maintain Chapter One equipment in participating classrooms

• Fully understand the operation of the Chapter One platform and database and communicate this to others

• Organise and conduct initial teacher training and follow-up

• Ensure a smooth initial launch of Chapter One’s programme in every classroom

• Liaise with colleagues performing technical and volunteer support roles

• Through regular visits to/contact with schools, provide on-going embedded professional learning and support to teachers throughout the year as needed

• Proactively monitor classroom adherence/fidelity to the Chapter One model, including systematic review of data reports and volunteer feedback, taking proactive action to resolve problems that arise

Channel ownership and development

Senior Communications Manager

The membership of the Royal Statistical Society (RSS) constitutes a preeminent source of statistical expertise. Members work with RSS staff to support our work across areas such as policy development, education, training, statistical communication, and statistical literacy. Communicating what we do is important to ensure that our work has impact, and that our members are informed. 

Job Purpose:

The main purpose of this role is to lead and coordinate communications activities across the Society’s policy and external affairs activities, ensuring that our work is communicated strategically and visible to appropriate audiences.

Key responsibilities:

Understanding opportunities and the changing external environment  

• Develop our understanding of the preferences and needs of our key internal and external audiences to better align our policy and external affairs communications to those preferences and needs. 
• Monitor and respond to emerging trends to ensure our communications channels and content for policy and external affairs remain timely and relevant.
• Build a network of key contacts across critical and adjacent organisations to maximise potential routes into influencing decision-making and make the best use of resources through collaborative working. 

Development of strategies and plans

• Lead on strategic communication of the Society’s campaign priorities
• Contribute to the development of the Society’s communications strategy across media, social media and communications planning.
• Work closely with colleagues across the organisation to maximise the communications value of the Society’s key policy and external affairs outputs and activities.
• Contribute to costed plans for communications campaigns that meet key strategic goals and include monitoring for impact.

Media relations

• Lead on the Society’s media relations work – proactively identify and exploit appropriate media opportunities to promote campaign priorities, drafting media statements and managing launches and announcements.
• Develop and maintain relationships with journalists across our key topic areas and respond to press queries. 
• Expertly advise, assist and brief the Society’s key spokespeople in respect of media relations issues and opportunities. 
• Manage, and develop the Society’s statistical ambassador scheme, supporting individuals and ensuring we have a pipeline of spokespeople that reflects the diversity of the data professions.

Content creation and editorial

• Develop communications content including blogs, press statements, posts and thought pieces to communicate our campaigns and policy work. 
• Contribute to the operation of the Society’s social media accounts, working with wider staff to ensure we are reflecting the breadth of the Society’s activities across the various platforms.
• Produce write-ups of events and roundtables.

External affairs

• Work with the CEO and Head of Policy and Advocacy to identify and develop relationships with external stakeholders, both UK-based and international and across government, civil society, academia and business, acting as a convenor, trusted advisor and critical friend. 
• Lead on the Society’s statistical excellence awards programme, including developing and maintaining relationships with awards sponsors to ensure the awards are both impactful and financially sustainable.
• Lead on the planning and delivery of policy focused events 
• Support the publication, launch and dissemination of relevant outputs across the policy team, and work with colleagues to ensure relevant and timely and communication of policy positions to support policy and advocacy objectives. 
• Maintain a database of relevant stakeholders.

Management

• Monitor and report on progress and performance against targets. 
• Project manage campaigns, external affairs and communications activities, ensuring that work is appropriate, of high quality, and sufficient volume to maintain presence and reputation. 
• Manage the budget for the communications function.

Interfaces with other teams and groups 

• Contribute to a cross-RSS communications group to share comms plans and outputs and identify opportunities for synergy and collaboration. 
• Provide support to key Society groups, for example the Campaigns Advisory Group. 
• Work with staff responsible for business development to pursue sponsorship opportunities where appropriate. 
• Engage with teams across the organisation to identify comms opportunities to advance our campaign priorities.

Person Specification

• Significant relevant experience in media relations and external affairs 
• Excellent written / oral communication skills, including writing, editing, sub-editing and proofreading 
• Excellent organisation, project and budget management skills
• Ability to work effectively, managing multiple projects and deadlines and reprioritising and achieving results in a changing environment.
• Ability to work on own initiative, escalating issues where appropriate. 
• Experience organising events in a policy context 
• Strong interpersonal skills: ability to persuade, inspire, influence, achieve results through others. 
• Collaborative team worker: proven ability to work efficiently and effectively with colleagues, committees, volunteers, and people with a wide range of perspectives, and to foster consensus. 
• Ability to establish and develop an extensive network of external contacts in the industry.
• Work closely with members of the Society who provide expert support on a voluntary basis including the President and Vice-President for External Affairs.

Desirable

• Interest in or experience of statistics, research, or other aspects of the Society’s work 
• Familiarity with developments within data science, statistics, machine learning, AI and related subject areas. 
• Experience working with volunteers. 
• Scientific background or experience. 

Working for the RSS

Pension and benefits

Our defined contribution pension scheme can be joined after three months in post. Your contributions of up to 8% of salary will be double matched by the Society (making a maximum contribution by the Society of 16%). A training budget, season ticket loan, cycle to work scheme and employee assistance programme are also available. 

Location

The RSS office is in central London. We offer flexible working arrangements, and this is a hybrid role with a minimum two days a week working in the office. In person attendance for certain meeting is required, including all-staff / team meetings and governance / committee meetings that take place in person. Limited travel within the UK and internationally may be required.

Working hours

35 per week full-time. Applications for job shares, part-time and flexible working will also be considered. The post-holder will be the point of contact for any out-of-office hours press queries. 

Holidays

25 days per annum, plus bank holidays and an additional shut down between Christmas and New Year. 

Probation

This post is subject to a six-month probation period.
