Introduction to Shooting Star Children’s Hospices
Shooting Star Children’s Hospices
Shooting Star Children’s Hospices are a leading children’s hospice charity caring for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions, and their families. We support families across Surrey and Southwest London from diagnosis to end of life and throughout bereavement with a range of nursing, practical, emotional and medical care.
At the heart of the hospice are our dedicated clinical staffs. Their exceptional commitment and professionalism is commented on by so many of the supported children and their families.
It costs £10.5 million a year to maintain our current level of care. We employ 175 staff, including 98 nursing and medical staff, providing hospice and community-based services to around 700 families.
Predominantly we work with families living in the Northwest and Southwest of London and Surrey, although will accept children outside these geographical areas if they do not have access to specialist palliative care support locally. Job Title: Senior Individual Giving Officer

Contract Type: Full- time, Permanent.
About The Felix Project
The Felix Project is London’s leading food redistribution charity, dedicated to ensuring good food is never wasted and no one goes hungry. The Felix Project now operates from four main depots in North, South, East, and West London, with ‘point-to-point’ projects in Central London and Canary Wharf. The East London depot has a kitchen producing up to 5,000 meals per day from surplus food. A new 'Multibank' in Ealing distributes non-food essentials.

The wider determinants of health are a diverse range of social, economic and environmental factors which influence people’s mental and physical health. Systematic variation in these factors constitutes social inequality, an important driver of the health inequalities.
In addition, this role would seek to increase the capacity of local voluntary sector organisations to carry out their own participatory research, as well as supporting the HDRC programme team in promoting participatory research methods across Surrey and building the local evidence base on the wider determinants of health.

Surrey HDRC is designed to boost the capacity of Surrey County Council to do research, together with our communities, with the aim of improving health outcomes and reducing health inequalities in Surrey communities. Surrey HDRC will develop a sustainable research culture, build research capacity and capability, and increase our local evidence-base on wider determinants of health.
About this role:
The post holder will be based at Good Company and will work as part of the Surrey HDRC programme team, leading on participatory research and co-production. The role includes:
· Developing a programme of research on wider determinants of health inequalities, with a particular focus on co-production and other forms of participatory research.
· Strengthening the participatory and co-production research capacity across Surrey, with a particular focus on the Voluntary, Community, Faith, and Social Enterprise (VCFSE) sector.
· Actively supporting the wider Surrey HDRC team in promoting the value of participatory research and co-production across Surrey County Council and its partners and building the local evidence-base on the social and wider determinants of health.
The post holder should have demonstrable skills in qualitative research methods, including experience of conducting participatory research. Ideally, they will have an understanding of health inequalities and the social and wider determinants of health. Experience of working or volunteering within a community setting would also be desirable.
Applications will not be accepted without a covering letter that covers how their skills and experience meet the role.
Interviews will be in Epsom & Ewell, Surrey on Tuesday 12th November.

Be part of something bigger. Join the next generation of social workers.
We are looking for a new Funding Officer to cover areas predominantly within Kent. The role will join a passionate, vibrant and friendly team and be part of ensuring our funding supports a wide variety of communities and places locally.
As part of our London, South East and East (LSE&E) Funding team, you’ll be part of a team, led by a Funding Manager, and comprised of five other Funding Officers. LSE&E is one of the largest teams in the Fund (circa 50 people) and distributes over £100m annually. The team is committed to learning and impact and the role offers a chance to gain insight into and learn from the fantastic work communities are doing on the ground and how this can be used to help others.
· You will assess applications for funding and manage grants from our Reaching Communities and Partnerships programme.
· You will use your local knowledge and experience, and the experience of our grant holders and local stakeholders, to ensure we are making the best decisions on the grants we make. By working closely with people and communities from a defined geographical area, you will understand what matters to them and where our funding can make the biggest difference.
· You will gain an understanding of our vision, our commitment to equity and inclusion and our funding programmes.
· You will be responsible for your own caseload; liaise with grant recipients, visit projects, identify and manage risks, supporting organisations to deliver their projects and measure their impact.
· You will need to understand and respond to the different needs of our applicants and grant holders by providing advice and feedback and be willing to have challenging but constructive conversations.
· You’ll also need to work within the Fund’s policies and procedures and the necessary legislation, and in a way that is in line with our vision and principles.
You will represent the Fund within your local area including at funding fairs and external meetings and create opportunities for people to come together. You will share learning from your conversations, events, grant holder reports and evaluations with other colleagues so that we can maximise our impact as a grant maker.
You may come from a voluntary sector background - many of our colleagues do, but we are also very open to transferrable skills from any and all backgrounds. Just reach out to us for an initial conversation if you’re unsure.
Interview Dates: 25th and 26th November - Online
Location: Mobile within Kent and with occasional travel to Sussex, London and other areas within the LSE&E region for team meetings. You’ll work mainly from home and community locations (such as our grant holders’ offices). You will receive a £1000 mobile working allowance.
On application, please align your supporting statement to the criteria below
