The Nuffield Family Justice Observatory is recruiting to the new role of Operations Administrator, which supports the effective operations of the organisation to ensure it can deliver programmes and projects which create impact for children and families.
The Nuffield Family Justice Observatory (NFJO) is an organisation that seeks to improve the lives of children and families by using data and research to hold up a mirror to children’s and families’ experiences of family court and their circumstances pre- and post- court proceedings.
Acknowledged as a trusted source of information about the family justice system, we have worked closely with judges, lawyers, social workers, families and policy makers to improve practice for children and families, convening discussion between different professional groups and supporting new innovations.
The focus of our work is set out in an ambitious strategy and its progress is recorded in our 5 year impact report.
The Operations Administrator will support the NFJO in the management of processes relating to finance, human resources, events and information administration, working closely with the Executive Coordinator.
The role will build strong relationships with the Nuffield Foundation’s HR, Finance and IT functions to help ensure shared processes are administered. Additionally, the Operations Administrator will work closely with staff across the NFJO, making sure it is a collaborative and supportive place to work.
You will have experience of previously working in administrative roles, and have knowledge of office systems and processes. You will enjoy working with teams and be comfortable of working with a range of people across multiple workstreams. You will have excellent organisational and planning skills, be comfortable juggling different tasks and be a confident communicator.
Above all you will be someone who is proactive, willing to 'muck in' when needed and be able to work in a collaborative and inclusive style.

As part of our Quality team, you will play a key role in coordinating QA reviews, supporting our QA self-assessment programme, and overseeing policy reviews. You will also help facilitate our Quality Reference Group (QRG), Safeguarding Forum, and Trustee Safeguarding Training.
In this role, you will provide safeguarding support by responding to queries, liaising with Home-Start charities, escalating concerns to a designated safeguarding lead, and promoting best safeguarding practices across the network.

Hope House provides support for 16 customers over 2 sites. The first site is a 10-bed supported housing unit and the second consists of 6 independent living flats. About the organisation
The organisation is a small, thriving national charity supporting people in rural areas to set up and run successful businesses in community ownership. They do this to achieve their UK-wide vision for resilient, thriving and inclusive rural communities. The charity is based in Oxfordshire with around 25 staff and a turnover of around £1.2 million annually.
Community-owned businesses are owned and controlled by community members and range from village shops, pubs and cafes, through to woodlands, fisheries and farms. The charity is in a sound financial position with strong reserves. The focus moving forward is to diversify income streams away from the traditional model of grants, trusts and foundations to increased self-generated income from projects, corporate sponsorship and placemaking initiatives with housing organisations.
The new Head of Finance will be joining the organisation at an exciting time as they progress on this journey.
About the role
Reporting to the COO and managing 1 Finance Officer, The Head of Finance is the lead staff member for all matters relating to the Finance Team and is responsible for all areas of its strategic management and day-to-day operations. The Head of Finance makes up part of the Senior Leadership Team.
Typical finance duties include the development and implementation of finance strategies and policies, the production of financial reports and management accounts, leading on the budgeting & forecasting process, leading on the production of the annual statutory accounts, and supporting the Finance Officer with all elements of transactional finance such as reconciliations & VAT.
The Head of Finance will also take an active role on the Senior Leadership Team including contributing to business plans, networking with partner organisations and contributing to the continued strategy to diversify the charity’s income.
The charity uses Xero accounting software and has a December financial year-end. There is a current interim Head of Finance in post, and a handover with this person is likely.
The role would suit an experienced charity sector Head of Finance, seeking to work on a part-time basis. The role will ideally be offered on a 3 day per week basis, with at least one day per week required in the office in Oxfordshire.
The salary offered is £60,000 - £66,000 per annum FTE (pro-rata) and benefits include flexible working, an employee benefits programme, training opportunities, 6% employer pension contribution and a generous holiday entitlement of 27 days plus bank holidays (pro-rated for part-time staff).
Requirements
• Qualified or near qualified ACCA, CIMA, ACA, CIPFA or equivalent
• A strong understanding of UK charity accounting including fund accounting and SORP
• Prior experience managing the finances of a small to medium sized charity, and management of a finance team
• A proactive attitude and the ability to ‘muck in’ with a broad range of duties sometimes outside the scope of the role
• Excellent analytical skills, ability to identify financial trends and create a supportive narrative
• Experience with Xero and Salesforce would be advantageous

The Role

About the Role
This new role will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of HR within Mind BLMK. The role will join the CEO and Head of Finance and Head of Operations as part of the Executive team. We require a strategic thinker who can align HR practices with our objectives, foster a positive culture, drive talent management and foster employee development.
Mind BLMK has a workforce of around 90 people and a small infrastructure to support us to deliver our valuable services to the community. The Head of HR will be hands on and supported by a HR assistant but will also work closely with other departments to ensure development and implementation of policies and programs that support Mind BLMKs goals.
About You
The successful candidate will have significant experience in managing talent acquisition, employee development, compensation and benefits and employee relations, Minimum 2 years’ experience of strategic and hands on HR leadership and experience of securing engagement from staff, managers and department heads.
Key Duties
- Develop and implement HR strategies, processes and services aligned with our overall strategy and vision
- Lead the HR function and team
- Be a pro-active member of the Executive team
- Monitor, update, and advise staff and managers on HR policies and procedures, ensuring that they are adhered to and effectively communicated across the organisation.
- Manage the production of relevant and timely information for managers and the Board of Trustees to include but not be limited to KPIs, timetables for appraisals, probation reviews, sickness management and equality and diversity statistics.
- To be the lead from the Executive team on the Workforce board sub-committee each quarter
- Ensure the monthly payroll process is completed

- recruitment, selection, onboarding and retention of staff and volunteers. Review the methods used for recruitment to ensure they are relevant and effective.

- Keep up to date with developments in employment related legislation for staff, freelancers and HR practices and contribute to own, teams and managers learning through effective communication and sharing of information.
- Maintain an effective workforce for HR department at HQ in line with Mind BLMK’s HR policies, procedures, and guidance (recruitment, line management, workload planning, support, and development of the HR staff).

Main Responsibilities:
