Message from the CEO
Dear candidate,
Thank you very much for your interest in the role. We are at an exciting inflection point as an organisation. Currently, we are a £6m T/O organisation with ~75 staff educating ~650 students and apprentices across our two campuses alongside a variety of short course activity. In recent years we have focused on putting the systems, processes and improved physical and digital infrastructure in place to allow us to scale our business model, and therefore our impact, rapidly.
Core to these solid foundations has been a significant improvement in our financial health in the past year following the successful completion of our capital projects and the residual impact of the covid-era falling away. With no debt, growing reserves and strengthened philanthropy relationships, we can be confident in investing in the right strategies for further growth.
To ensure we are pursuing the right strategies, we are embarking on the formulation of our new strategy for the next 5 years in Spring 2025. We will be bringing together the college's internal and external stakeholders, alongside pro bono support from Bain&Co., to set bold new goals for the next decade and a detailed roadmap for how we will meet them, specifically how we will dramatically increase the number of learners we educate and empower to become the next generation of diverse digital talent.
The Director of Finance and Operations is a pivotal role in the realisation of our renewed and heightened ambitions. Growth is only sustainable and successful when built on solid foundations and scalable infrastructure. Your role will be to ensure this is in place and continues to grow to meet our current and future needs . You will articulate the College’s financial and infrastructure development strategies in conjunction with our expert Governors and your senior leadership peers. You will then be responsible for the effective implementation of these strategies and the management of a high-performing team to execute on them in line with the College's 5 values: Collaboration, Creativity, Curiosity, Resilience and Rigour.
I hope this sounds like an exciting challenge. If it does, please read on and I very much look forward to reading your application.
Mark

Hybrid working with regular travel to our London Bridge Office
What the job involves
Our Events and Community Fundraising team raises funds for Prostate Cancer UK through a programme of owned products, activities and events, in addition to third-party challenges. Alongside our two owned events, March for Men and the Grand Depart Classic, we also recruit teams in events such as the TCS London Marathon, Great North Run and the London Landmarks Half Marathon.
In this role, you’ll project manage a number of third-party events which take place across the UK, including our teams at the Brighton Marathon, Edinburgh Marathon Festival and Great North Run. You’ll also be tasked with identifying new opportunities across the UK in the charity events market.
This role will cover all aspects from setting budgets, creating a marketing plan, building the supporter communications, organising event logistics, delivering event weekend support, followed by remittance and thanking to ensure we maximise the funds raised from these events. Alongside this, you’ll work with other teams within Prostate Cancer UK to support the full calendar of events and take the lead with supporting our volunteers at our events.
Working with our Communications teams, you’ll ensure that we make the most of every opportunity, from promoting the events to warm and new audiences, identifying and building relationships with the strongest case studies, to ensuring a high proportion of event participants continue to support us after completing their event.
What we want from you
We’re looking for a dedicated person to join our established, experienced and high-performing Events and Community Fundraising team, that has ambitious plans to grow income to £16M+ by 2030. As a team, we work hard to combine our strengths and motivate each other and share a passion for success. You’ll be joining an experienced and supportive team that will help you grow your strengths and support your development.
You’ll have experience of working in a sporting events team with a background of assisting or leading with the delivery of large-scale events, covering aspects such as marketing, communications and event delivery. Ideally with a solid fundraising background to enable you to hit the ground running. You’ll also have excellent communication skills and can motivate and inspire for our cause. Strong organisational skills will be combined with the ability to prioritise a busy workload and work to tight deadlines.
You’ll have the energy and passion to provide crucial input to this sector-leading team. This is a fantastic opportunity for the right person to grow, develop and gain valuable skills and experience in a fundraising role within a progressive and innovative organisation. You’ll be part of a passionate team to stop men dying from prostate cancer.
Why work with us?
Every man needs to know about the most common cancer in men – prostate cancer. It’s a real and present danger that takes over 12,000 of our dads, grandads, brothers and friends each year.
Prostate Cancer UK is the largest men’s health charity in the UK. We have a simple ambition – to stop prostate cancer damaging lives. We invest millions in research to revolutionise testing, treatment and care. We’re blazing a trail to a screening programme that could save thousands of lives with regular, accurate tests for all men at risk. And we work tirelessly to spread the word about risk and offer specialist support to people living with the disease.
Work with us and you’ll see your efforts pay off as we give men and their families the power to navigate prostate cancer.
Our commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion
At Prostate Cancer UK we’re committed to righting health inequalities across the UK, starting with those faced by Black men. This includes ground-breaking research into Black men's risk and working with communities directly to overcome barriers to the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer. To make this happen, we're dedicated to being an inclusive, proactive organisation, as we strive to be Ally's to Black communities. We’ll achieve this by advocating and working alongside those communities to promote change. We're also working to be Ally's to each other, not only protected groups. In 2024, we launched our New Ally Ship Training Programme. All colleagues at Prostate Cancer UK will be trained to act and identity as an Ally.
We've also signed Business in the Communities Race at Work Charter, as a dedication to our Black health equity work and wider EDI priorities. As a signatory, we're responsible and accountable for driving positive change.
Ways of working
Our hybrid working approach combines the best of flexible working – a positive work/life balance, inclusive and accessible platforms, and online information at our fingertips.

Citizens Advice offers confidential advice online, over the phone, and in person, for free. Through our national network of charities, we give people the knowledge and the confidence they need to find their way forward – whoever they are, and whatever their problem.
Volunteers are at the heart of how we deliver the Citizens Advice service. There are currently 14,000 volunteers involved in the delivery, running and governance of our service. We’re currently part way through an exciting transformation programme for volunteering at Citizens Advice, working in collaboration with stakeholders across our network to adapt and evolve our volunteering offer to ensure volunteering can continue to play its fullest role in our mission.
Our volunteer recruitment transformation project is a priority work stream in the overall transformation programme. The project aims to build a more robust journey for potential volunteers through the national website via the implementation of a volunteering application system, making it easier for people to apply to volunteer and for us to efficiently direct volunteer resources to where they’re most needed within our federated service. This, in turn, will lay the foundations for us to deliver higher-profile volunteer recruitment campaigns to raise the profile of Citizens Advice as a great place to volunteer and drive up the number and diversity of our volunteer applicants. This work is more important than ever as more and more people are coming to us for help.
We’re looking for a Volunteering Systems & Recruitment Officer to support the delivery of this exciting project. Working closely with the Head of Volunteering and a Senior Delivery Manager, you’ll use your volunteering expertise to inform the successful development and implementation of the new system.
Working alongside a Senior Delivery Manager and bringing in support from expert external agency(ies) as required you’ll use your strong project management skills to support effective delivery of the remaining project phases. This includes procurement, set-up, testing and roll-out of the new system. You’ll use your excellent stakeholder engagement skills to ensure effective engagement of stakeholders across our network throughout the project lifecycle. You’ll work closely with colleagues in the Brand and Marketing team to design and develop promotional campaigns for volunteering to increase the volume and diversity of volunteer applications.
You’ll be part of a friendly, supportive and committed team with the opportunity to make a real impact on the delivery of our services at a time when they’re never more needed.
Please apply with your CV and cover letter detailing the below essential criteria
- Supporting system development and roll-out, preferably in a volunteering context.
- Excellent knowledge of good practice and customer experience in volunteering.
- Excellent stakeholder management experience and skills.
- Confident and comfortable working autonomously and developing own workload to meet agreed milestones and outcomes.

Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) is of strategic importance within the organisation and recognised as integral to all we do as a service.
Central to pursuing our EDI mission is building diverse and inclusive teams in which everyone has a sense of belonging. We believe inclusion is a social justice issue - a principle that underpins our all EDI work. To that end, we particularly welcome applications from people we would like to see better represented in our organisation and sector - people of colour, LGBTQ+ people and disabled people. We follow the social model of disability. We will offer an interview to disabled candidates who indicate they wish their application to be considered under our Disability Confident Interview Commitment where they meet our selection criteria in their application. Some of our roles attract a high volume of applications and in some circumstances where it is not practicable or appropriate, we may limit the number of interviews offered to disabled and non-disabled candidates. We will provide reasonable adjustments as needed.
We’re a flexible employer, so this role may suit anyone who’d prefer a flexible arrangement to help their work/life balance, many of our colleagues spend most of their time working remotely. Whilst we prefer a blended approach between a local office, if one is near you, and home we’re open to being flexible on location, occasionally a role may require you to be based in a certain location if that's the case it will be detailed in the advert or job description. This can be discussed in more detail during your interview.
