The role
This is an exciting time to be joining UK Youth. We have recently been through a strategy refresh and are now better positioned to deliver on our ambitions that all young people are equipped to thrive and empowered to contribute at every stage of their lives.
This role will lead design projects to shape UK Youth’s support to young people and professionals working with young people. This could include structured youth work programmes, grant funds, professional development programmes, and campaigns.
You will be confident in taking a human-centred-design approach to tackle some of the youth sector’s knottiest problems. You will help to improve the skills and confidence of colleagues across UK Youth to apply design methods in their own work.
In 2024, our priority topics for youth work programmes and network development are: mental health, employability, youth social action, outdoor learning and physical literacy.
You will work closely the research, evaluation, policy, service delivery, network development, and fundraising teams. You will meaningfully involve young people and the professionals who support them in the design process.
You will design solutions to important problems, ensuring that they are feasible, equitable, and impactful.
Who we are
UK Youth is a leading charity that is unlocking youth work for all young people.
We bring together young people and youth workers with business leaders, teachers, social workers, doctors, policy makers and other professionals to learn, spread effective ways to support young people, and campaign for social change.
Only by working together can we tackle the systemic problems that keep letting our young people down.

Why work at UK Youth?
UK Youth wants all young people to be equipped to thrive and empowered to contribute at every stage of their lives. Youth work can be life changing (and even life saving.) We have developed a strategy to unlock youth work so that every young person in the UK can benefit. We work with others to ensure that the youth sector is strengthened and that provision is youth-led, evidence-informed, and delivers high-quality outcomes.
UK Youth plays a unique role in addressing the lack of investment in the youth sector, the lack of cross-sector understanding in how youth work makes a difference, and the limited opportunities to embed effective solutions. These factors lead to mass inequality of access to youth services for young people. Come and be part of this change.

Our Vision:
We are a charity that delivers transformational services to children, young people and their families across West and North Yorkshire. Our residential homes offer a nurturing environment where children and young people enjoy life enabling them to flourish. Our staff teams share the vision of wanting our children to achieve their best and so we provide a safe place where their needs are at the heart of every decision we make. We protect and support children and young people. We do this by providing practical and emotional care and support. We make sure their voices are heard enabling them to have improved choices and outcomes to their lives.
Our new home is unique as it involves a collaboration between Catholic Care, Bradford Council and foster families offering a therapeutic and trauma informed environment for children aged 6 – 11 years who have experienced adverse childhood experiences in their lives. As registered manager you will have the opportunity to recruit an exceptional team of professional care staff who will support the children and help them develop vital skills such as building relationships to help improve their overall wellbeing and support their psychological and emotional development with the aim of preparing them for a long term ‘forever family’ placement. This is our passion and purpose and sets the home apart as visionary for specialist intervention children’s services
Overview of Role
This is a brand-new role for someone to make their own! The home is a new addition to our range of services. You will manage the two bedded home working with children in a therapeutic manner, recognising the difficulties that children can experience when considering the impact of early life trauma, adverse childhood experiences and disrupted attachments. You and your team will help them to learn to thrive in their day to day lives. The successful applicant will support and manage a team of senior residential childcare workers and residential childcare workers, whilst acting as a corporate parent to the children we care for.

Passionate about volunteering, community organising, or the value of people helping people? We’re hiring a Senior Volunteer Coordinator to join our Student Development Team.
Every year thousands of students volunteer to build communities around activities and social issues that are meaningful to them. These volunteer student leaders have a huge impact on the student experience of thousands more of their peers, as well as hundreds of people in the University’s local community. The Student Development Team aims to create opportunities for students to build and participate in communities that are inclusive, sustainable, ambitious, and impactful, and the Senior Volunteer Coordinator will play a key role in achieving this vision for our student leadership programmes.
In collaboration with a second Senior Volunteer Coordinator, you’ll be leading on a series of volunteering programmes that we’re really proud of. Since September 2023, student volunteers have raised over £150,000 for charitable causes, given over 2,800 hours of their time to volunteer directly in the local community, and broadcast an award-winning radio station, among other achievements. As the Senior Volunteer Coordinator you will coordinate the onboarding, skills development, and tailored support for volunteer student leaders who, in turn, coordinate their own volunteer teams. This means you’ll play a vital role in shaping our student leadership culture, as the way you manage your volunteers will influence the way they manage theirs.
This role is of strategic importance to our student leadership programmes as, alongside coordinating your own volunteering programmes, you’ll be working with other student-facing teams to inspire colleagues to develop their own volunteer management practices.
Our programmes are well-resourced, and we have an outstanding research & insight function that will support you to make data-driven decisions on making our programmes even better. We offer a comprehensive training programme for skills you might want to work on, from giving and receiving feedback well, to coaching and safeguarding. There’s no need for previous Higher Education sector experience – you might have coordinated teams of people in any context. We’re looking for someone who is capable of motivating or inspiring others into action, comfortable making autonomous decisions, and curious about exploring new ways of working.
This is an exciting time to join the Student Development team as we overhaul our approaches to volunteer management across the Union to ensure that volunteering remains attractive to students already balancing commitments including their studies and paid work. We want the skills development opportunities and rewards for volunteering to be sector-leading – could it be you that helps to make this happen?
This is a hybrid role, with the option for around 2 days per week working offsite.
