It’s a truly exciting time to consider joining the Board as Brighton Dome & Brighton Festival enters its next phase of growth and impact in a dynamic context. Lucy Davies, previously Executive Director at the Young Vic, joined us as Chief Executive in January 2025, and will be embarking on her vision for the organisation alongside you.

Following a major capital refurbishment project of the Grade I and II listed Corn Exchange and Studio Theatre we have just celebrated our first full year of programming in these spaces which are more accessible and sustainable than ever. The refurbishment has restored and upgraded these venues, introduced a new creative space for artists, new public areas and a restaurant. Within the charity is Create Music, the music hub for the whole of Sussex, reaching over 20,000 young people every year. In 2026 we celebrate the 60th Brighton Festival, England’s largest multi-arts festival.

We are keen to hear from committed enthusiastic individuals who may have experience in the following areas to become either our new Chair or Trustees on our Board:

· A young trustee, aged 18-28, especially with music experience

· Finance and accounting

· Digital and technology

· Experience as an artist or creative Leadership and workforce development

· Sustainability and environment

We welcome those who might be wanting to develop their approach to governance and training and mentorship will be offered as necessary.

The successful candidates will be appointed by the Board and will be both a trustee under the Charities Act 2011 and a director under the Companies Act 2006. The job is voluntary and unpaid, although travel expenses can be reclaimed.

The Board’s principal role is to provide vision, policy and governance. This includes maintaining an overview of the organisation’s strategy and business planning activities, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements (particularly employment and health & safety) and budget approval and monitoring of financial outcomes. Do you love meeting and talking to people? Or perhaps you prefer sorting and organising in the background? If so, why not volunteer in our charity shop in Newcastle Emlyn? It's something of a community hub, an inspiring and happy emporium. It is often the first place people hear about the hospice. If you’re on the shop floor then a large part of the day can be spent talking with and listening to customers. It can also be the first port of call for those with a terminal diagnosis or someone seeking help for a friend or loved one.

What will I be doing?

• Greeting customers warmly, helping them and sharing information about our hospice.

• Helping create attractive displays.

• Organising and refilling shelves and racks.

• Dusting, vacuuming and tidying.

• Receiving, sorting, pricing, and preparing donated items.

• Processing sales using cash and card payments.

• Helping us advertise special events through conversations, window displays and posters.

• Working together within the retail team to support the smooth running of the shop.

What do I need to have?

• Shop floor volunteers need a friendly and approachable manner with excellent communication and people skills.

• Willingness to adapt to different tasks as and when shop priorities change.

• Experience in retail or customer service would be helpful but isn’t essential.

What training and support will I be given?

You will be supported by the Charity Shop Manager and given induction and training to ensure you feel confident and capable in your role. As part of the wider hospice team, you’ll also have the chance to take part in various team wellbeing and development opportunities, plus additional learning.

​We hold new volunteer inductions at the start of each term, so apply ASAP to be in time to join our next induction.

Action for Refugees in Lewisham works to relieve poverty and isolation amongst refugees, asylum seekers and other vulnerable migrants in Lewisham. At the Rainbow Club supplementary school we aim to help children between the ages of 4 and 11 to improve their literacy, numeracy and social skills in a friendly and supportive environment.  We need your skills and enthusiasm to assist the teacher in the delivery of a literacy and numeracy class and work with other volunteers to develop a programme of recreational activities. The Rainbow Club runs on Saturday mornings during term-time.

Your duties will include:

• Arriving punctually for the 9am briefing by the Rainbow Club Headteacher;
• Working in a team with other volunteers and teachers to deliver literacy, numeracy, arts, sport activities – this includes ensuring children remain engaged throughout the lesson and carry out set tasks as instructed by the teacher;
• Working one-to-one with specific children if and when required;
• Filing classroom work and homework in children’s individual files and keeping all materials and resources tidy and properly stored;
• Liaising with parents as and when required for example distributing leaflets and news about future meetings and events and also assisting with parents' day;
• Following the teacher’s policies on discipline and classroom management;
• Supervising the children during break times;
• Supporting the children during class trips;
• Ensuring classrooms are clean and tidy at the end of each day – this may include being part of a regular team rota;
• Providing feedback and comments to the Rainbow Club Headteacher when required.
