Operations Director

Role Description

Our mission: Respond to homelessness across the UK. To help us to this, we are looking for a new Operations Director to drive a new strategy, focusing on how we can grow our unique Satellite Hubs! If you believe in tackling homelessness, then this is a role for you!

Fully flexible and remote, you will be working with our CEO to help grow our work started through our flagship Worcester Model. Helping to recruit local people across the UK, you will be guiding how we work with local authorities and local organisations to build better partnerships which ultimately help the most vulnerable in society.

Experience of writing reports is desirable but not essential.

Our Chair’s leadership will ensure the Board has the right balance of skills and experience. They will chair meetings impartially, bring objectivity to the decision-making process, and ensure that decisions are effectively implemented.

Building and maintaining strong, supportive relationships with the Joint CEOs is crucial. Our new Chair will maintain regular contact, providing necessary support while respecting the boundaries between roles.

We are looking for a Chair with experience of complexity and scale in a governance role who has strategic leadership experience with multiple stakeholders and who can showcase exceptional leadership and facilitation skills.

A proven track record of strategic leadership at a senior level is required, ideally within the children’s online safety sector or related fields. Having the ability to guide groups to consensus while, at times, being an ambassador, is key.

Time commitment

Our board of Directors meets quarterly, and our CEO Governing Committee meets twice yearly. We expect the overall time commitment to be the equivalent of approximately 15 days a year, which includes board meetings, preparation, attending IM-hosted events, one face-to-face event a year, and engagement with the board and our joint CEOs.

To take an active role in the charity activities.  Responsible for governance, safeguarding and strategic direction of the charity with other board members.  To work in partnership and to support contractors and volunteers helping them to achieve the aims of the organisation.

Pharmacy Research UK (PRUK) is a small charity that funds pharmacy research in the UK. We fund research to help pharmacy professionals do research projects that can improve the public services and patient health. Our research funding helps:

• Pharmacists and pharmacy technicians develop research skills that will improve patient care in the future;
• Find out how we can deliver services better and make sure that pharmacy works well for patients;
• Enter into partnerships to increase the value and impact of pharmacy research;
• Promoting research to highlight the important role of pharmacy and pharmacy professionals in healthcare.

We are working with other key organisations to increase research funding opportunities for pharmacy professionals, including Diabetes UK, Kidney Research UK and the National Institute for Health and Care Research.

The Scientific Advisory Panel (SAP) advises the Board of Trustees about grant funding, as well as the areas which need more research. The panel also makes sure that the research we fund is fairly assessed and will improve care for patients and their families.

We are seeking to initially appoint two scientific members to the Scientific Advisory Panel. Successful applicants would be invited to serve a three year term, with an option to renew for a further three years.

We are looking for scientific members with expertise in a range of methodological or healthcare disciplines. We especially welcome applications from those experienced in the use of qualitative research methods or those who are from disciplines outside of pharmacy practice, including digital health.

As we look to raise our profile as the principal funder of early-career research pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and pharmacy researchers, this is an exciting time to get involved with us.

The responsibilities of the scientific post-holders include:

• Providing advice and input where necessary on PRUK’s research priorities, developments in the research landscape and best practice in our research policies and procedures;
• Contributing to discussions on the research strategy and approach taken to increase the scope of opportunity for pharmacists to engage in research;
• Advising and supporting the PRUK staff team in monitoring our portfolio of projects;
• Supporting the development of clear guidelines to establish measurable reporting procedures for research;
• Supporting the application review process by undertaking peer review of applications and assisting in sourcing peer reviewers.

We encourage applications from experienced researchers against the following criteria:

• Experienced researcher with substantive grant income and a good publication track record commensurate to stage of career;
• Experienced in peer reviewing proposals for grant funding;
• Educated as a health services researcher to post-doctoral level, working in a relevant healthcare discipline with strong methodological expertise (expertise in qualitative methods are preferred) or with relevant cross-disciplinary experience in pharmacy research;
• Experience of working with other research funding panels (desirable).

We also want to ensure that our board is representative of the community we serve and so encourage applications from those with culturally and ethnically diverse backgrounds. We also welcome applications across the UK, particularly Wales.

The panel currently meets twice a year online. There is the potential to meet in-person when needed (in London). There will be some preparatory work in the lead-up to the meetings, such as reviewing applications for funding. Therefore, members need to plan for work prior to the meetings and all members should be available, via email, outside of the meeting to receive relevant paperwork.

Objective

• Holds the Executive team and the Board to account to:
  - remain focussed solely on the BRACE stated purpose

• Act (in partnership with the Chief Executive) as an ambassador and the public face of BRACE.

Charity Structure

• BRACE the charity has a sole Trustee “BRACE Trustee Limited”. All members of the Board are Directors of BRACE Trustee Limited and act as Trustees of BRACE. There are up to 15 directors of BRACE Trustee Limited who for reasons of clarity are called Trustees.
• The Chair and Trustees are usually appointed for a fixed term of 4 years which can be renewed once, enabling Trustees to serve for a maximum continuous term of 8 years.

Meetings

• Board meetings are held 4 times a year plus 1 awayday. Each meeting is +/- 4 hours.
• There are currently 3 sub-committees of the Board (Scientific Advisory Committee [SAC], Finance and HR). The 3 sub-committees meet no more than one month before the board meetings either in person or on Zoom. SAC reviews applications for grants and makes recommendations to the Board for approval.
• Board Meetings are generally held in person in the Bristol area, online or hybrid meetings are not encouraged but can be facilitated.

The Elizabeth Casson Trust was established in 1948 to further the profession of occupational therapy and support the development of occupational therapists within the UK and beyond. We have developed as an organisation through the years but have always worked to stay true to the pioneering spirit of Dr Elizabeth Casson.

The Trust supports the development and translation of research into practice, and the acquisition of knowledge and skills by occupational therapists. We achieve this through the awarding of grants. In addition, we commission specific projects through our innovation awards to respond to current and emerging needs.

Who we are looking for.

We are looking to appoint three new trustees, including two occupational therapists and one lay trustee. To ensure our Board broadly represents the profession, we have a particular interest in recruiting OTs with experience in social care, learning disabilities, acute care, NHS/ICS and/or independent practice. For the third trustee, we are looking for an individual with finance experience and an understanding of investments. We are keen to ensure our Board is representative of the UK and interested in appointing people from Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales.

• Ensuring that the Charity is governed in line with its Constitution and meets all legal duties applicable to it as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO).

What is a Trustee?

Trustees are responsible for the overall governance and direction of Project Trust, using their skills and experience to help the charity define and achieve its strategic aims.  The Board of Trustees functions as a unit and works closely with the Executive team to achieve agreed objectives. Trustees are ambassadors for the charity, giving their time on a voluntary basis.  Reasonable travel expenses will be covered where required.

What is the time commitment?

The Board of Trustees meets on average four times a year, this includes three half-day meetings held online plus an in-person Annual General Meeting that all Trustees are expected to attend.  Trustees may also be involved in Board sub-committees and/or short-term specific interest sub-groups, plus additional ad-hoc meetings.  Some time will also be required for reading and considering papers, and discussions with colleagues. You may be required to attend training events relevant to the role as necessary. 

Trustees are asked to serve for a minimum of three years, with a maximum term of nine years.

You will have the chance to support and shape the work and strategic direction of our charity, helping to ensure that Project Trust continues to offer life-changing opportunities to young people.  You will gain experience in setting strategic vision, influencing and negotiation, and managing risk.  If you already have significant experience in these areas, it can be stimulating to use it in a different and challenging context.  You will be able to apply your unique skills and experience in a rewarding way, working closely with a passionate team of people.

Why am I needed?

Community is at the heart of everything that we do at Tenovus Cancer Care to help those affected by cancer. Our aim is simple – to deliver a vision where fewer people get cancer and those that do receive equal access to excellent treatment. However, we can’t do this without your help. Our shops in local communities are crucial to us raising vital funds. So, we’d like you to volunteer your time and commitment to help us make a difference. We need you to help sort, value and display our vinyl and media donations in our shops to help turn them into cash.

What will I be doing?

Sorting through our media (CD/DVDs/Vinyl) donations and pricing them ready for sale

Researching interesting vinyl online on sites such as Discogs, eBay and Amazon to value them for sale in the shop

Displaying the media on the shop floor ensuring stock is rotated regularly to increase sales

Enlisting help from local auction houses when needed

Speaking with customers, making them welcome and answering queries

Promoting awareness of the charity and the services that we provide.

What skills do I need?

It’d be great if you have some knowledge of or interest in vinyl/media and know what to look out for when valuing.

A really keen eye for detail and ability to cross reference items across a number of websites to provide the most realistic valuation

Ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team

Ability to communicate effectively with other members of the team and customers.

Ability to use computer for research

You may need to handle bags and donations from the public and there may be stairs to climb depending on which shop you are based in. If you have any concerns about this, please speak with the Shop Manager when expressing your interest in volunteering.  

How much time do I need to commit?

We’d need you to give around three hours per week if you can with the possibility to do more if you’d like to. However, we appreciate any time you’d like to give; please let us know this on your application form

 

What support will I be given?

Before starting with Tenovus Cancer Care, we ask that you do try a small number of hours in the shop so we can both see how the role may suit you. The amount of hours can be decided between you and the Shop Manager.

Following that the Shop Manager and team will be on hand to run you through the basics of helping in a shop in your first few days and they’ll always be on hand after that.

Becoming a volunteer with Tenovus Cancer Care can be a rewarding experience and is certainly invaluable to the charity and its goals.

This is an exciting opportunity to be able to influence how we do things whilst helping the RSPCA to; identify animal welfare needs in the area, prevent animal cruelty, and reach out to more supporters.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and passionate person, with professional expertise, who could devote their time to volunteer as a trustee at our Tunbridge Wells & Maidstone Branch. You would be supporting us with establishing connections in the local community and determining what animal welfare needs there are in the area so we can help more animals in need. 

Alongside passing on your expertise, this opportunity will give you the chance to influence how we care for and prevent cruelty to animals and drive the implementation of key initiatives. You will serve on the governing body of the charity and be instrumental, alongside fellow trustees, in the running of the Branch and setting out both the short and long term aims.

As a minimum, trustees would normally be expected to attend a  committee meeting every other month lasting 2 hours either in person or virtually (can alternate). However, the commitment may vary depending on whether or not the trustee takes on additional duties.

Primary responsibilities of the Branch Trustee – Community Outreach

• Take the lead on matters relating to community outreach:
•  Establish connections with the local community.
•  Help the Branch determine what the local animal welfare need is.
•  Where there are opportunities for improvements in animal welfare.
•  Assist the Branch in setting strategies to tackle the identified animal welfare needs.
•  Work closely with other organisations (other welfare charities, other welfare providers, vets etc) to develop mutually beneficial partnership opportunities.
•  Identify opportunities for the Branch to engage with those living within the branches area in order to develop its supporter base.

Alongside professional experience, we are looking for someone who is committed to the RSPCA’s charitable objectives and shares our passion for animal welfare. You would be creative, innovative, bring a fresh perspective, and can put ideas into action.

You will need to be able to work with people and have good interpersonal skills. You do not need to be an expert, although commitment, common sense, and the ability to be objective are vital.

Role Summary

As the Fundraising Coordinator, you will be responsible for helping create and implementing strategies to fundraise from both existing and new sources (individuals, mosques, grants etc.) with the aim of securing the long-term financial stability of Roots Academy.

Key tasks

Fundraising Planning:

• Develop and execute comprehensive fundraising plans to achieve income goals.
• Identify potential new funding sources and opportunities for income generation.

Campaign Management:

• Plan and oversee fundraising campaigns and events, including direct appeals, online campaigns, and fundraising events at mosques.
• Coordinate with marketing and communications teams to develop compelling fundraising material.

Proposal Development:

• Research trusts, foundations and corporations for grant opportunities.
• Work with the team to develop proposals, supporting with grant writing when needed.

Budget Oversight:

• Work closely with the finance team to monitor fundraising budgets, expenditure, and financial projections.

Donor Relations:

• Support with Donor Communications in activities related to donor relationship management and stewardship.

• Experience in organising fundraising campaigns and events, including digital fundraising strategies
• Strong understanding of fundraising principles and techniques, including donor cultivation
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate the organisation’s mission and impact to diverse audiences

About the Role

PatientsVoices is a group of volunteers who support, advise and influence our client by providing the patient perspective on its work. They can offer you a range of contribution and development opportunities, and the knowledge that you are making a positive difference to the lives of patients, and the healthcare staff who look after them. 

There are a wide range of activities to suit different skills and levels of commitment if you are appointed as a member. You might be a permanent member on formal committees, or help our client produce information for patients, or be part of visits to hospitals to assess anaesthetic departments and the care they provide to patients.
