Working a national, regional and local level, Evolving Communities delivers local Healthwatch services and Maternity and Neonatal Voices Partnerships, and consultancy/advisory work for those who commission, provide and develop health and social care services and products.

About the roles

Evolving Communities is looking to expand its Board with a view to building on the company’s success in health and social care and consultancy/advisory and so develop and expand its business into other areas where the experience of the public voice translates. This could be, for example, care, housing or education.

Key responsibilities include:

• Constructively challenging and helping to develop business proposals and strategy.
• Overseeing the performance of management in meeting agreed goals and objectives and monitoring the reporting of performance.

Who we’re looking for

The existing Board is looking for people to complement their individual and collective skill set and who are interested in and supportive of public advocacy. Candidates may have experience in either:

• Service development within the health and/or social care sectors
• Business development/sales/commercial (ideally from the health and social care sectors)
   

Candidates will also demonstrate a range of knowledge and skills, such as:

Time commitment and term

This is a voluntary role with a term of three years, with the option to serve for a further two years if invited to do so by the Chair. The commitment involves attending a Board meeting every other month (option to join in person or virtually), and other ad hoc meetings such as training and away days. Overall, this is a role requiring a time commitment equivalent to approximately two days per month.

Position Overview

An exciting and unique internship opportunity to work closely with key senior operational staff in a respected UK international development charity; this position has strong vocational content for anyone looking to break into the international development sector with future possibilities of progression into roles within the UK and/or Madagascar.

What will you be doing?

You will be chairing the Board of Trustees, ensuring that we have minimum representation required for decisions to be made, keeping the board aligned in decision-making, ensuring all minutes are recorded and that all decisions by trustees are made with the appropriate context provided.

Trustees meetings are usually held every six weeks, plus there is an AGM, away days, and any sub-committee meetings that trustees may be involved in. Most meetings will remain virtual but there will from time to time be a need to attend key meetings and events in Nottingham. In this role, you will orchestrate a well-coordinated process that drives operational efficiency.  As the central point of contact, you will gather input from diverse internal teams—sales, finance, legal, and technical—ensuring everyone collaborates smoothly to meet critical deadlines.

As a leader, you'll elevate the quality of our bid content.  By overseeing the creation of compelling, polished materials, you'll ensure our final submissions are professional, cohesive, and error-free.  You will utilise a centralised content library containing valuable resources, such as case studies and CVs, to streamline efforts and enhance our proposals.

You will keep projects on track by developing detailed project plans and timelines, ensuring all tasks are completed on time—especially critical in the fast-paced environment of tender submissions.  Your effective management will ease colleagues' workloads, allowing the entire team to shine.

• Oversee all financial matters including budgeting, accounting, and financial reporting.

The Board of Trustees plays a vital role by steering and supporting the charity development. We are seeking to appoint a Chair or a Vice Chair. The Studio Upstairs Board is drawn from a diverse range of backgrounds and has a variety of skills. To complement the current Board, we would envisage that the Chair had a wide experience of running organisations and a particular interest in the charity sector.
