About the Bloom Service

Barnardo's Swansea Bloom Service works directly with care experienced young people to help improve their emotional wellbeing, resilience and self confidence. Our aim is to create a positive space for them to explore their identity, passions, and potential. The support on offer includes  the opportunity to take part in amazing activities, life coaching, befriending and peer mentoring.

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual to join Barnardo's as a Volunteer, Befriending and Peer Mentoring Co-ordinator (Project Worker 2).

The contract is for 25 hours a week to cover the maternity leave of the substantive post holder until 31st March 2025.

Bloom is a growing service offering a unique opportunity for the right person to develop, co-ordinate and deliver our Volunteer, Befriending and Peer Mentoring work using established and innovative approaches. The Co-ordinator will be responsible for recruiting and managing a team of volunteers, befrienders and peer mentors who will help young people to improve their physical and mental well-being by supporting them to access a range of exciting activities, helping them to find new interests and hobbies and engage in healthy activities in the community

You will undertake the role of Volunteer, Befriending and Peer Mentoring Co-ordinator reporting to the Children's Service Manager and acting as line manager to the service's volunteers.

The successful candidate will be required to carry out the following duties (in addition to those on the generic job description):- 

• Continued development and delivery of the Volunteer, Befriending and Peer Mentoring element of the Bloom service.
• Recruit and train volunteers, befrienders and peer mentors
• Effectively match volunteers/befrienders/peer mentors to support young people
• Effectively utilise the Barnardo's specialist volunteer management system (Vol 1)
• Provide ongoing support and supervision of volunteers
• Keep accurate statistical information and assist in producing service performance reports for the organisation and funders.
• Support project engagement events and empower young people to share their voice and ensure that Bloom continues to be a young person led project
• Assist in quality assurance of every aspect of the service
• The service requires flexibility of work as we support young people around their needs.

You will have: 

• Experience of working within a volunteering setting preferably at the level of co-ordinating the service this can be in a employment, education, training or volunteering setting
• Experience of recruiting, inducting and retaining volunteers
• Experience of keeping statistical information and completing performance reports for funders
• The ability to line manage  volunteers
• An understanding of the needs of care experienced/vulnerable young people and an awareness of the factors impacting on their lives

Bloom is made up of three elements all of which work together:

Life Coaching - there is a dedicated life coach

Giving young people the power to unlock their own potential for positive change, by providing them with the tools to build resilience, improve wellbeing and understand themselves better. Coaching empowers young people to think about and move forward positively in their lives, by creating and working towards specific goals through 1:1 sessions with our life coach. 

Volunteer, befriending and peer mentoring - there is a dedicated volunteer coordinator

• Volunteers – to help with activities
• Befriending - members of the local community befriend and provide ongoing assistance to service users are moving to independence
• Peer mentors – care experienced adults who can offer invaluable guidance to care experienced young people by drawing on their own experiences

Activities there are 2 engagement workers 

Giving young people regular opportunities to get together to experience activities not easily accessed by care experienced young people. Led by the expressed wishes of young people they could be experiences such as sports, adventuring, outdoor events, gardening clubs, cooking clubs.

You will be responsible for managing the financial transactions of the organisation. Working closely with the Finance Manager to ensure all financial systems are implemented effectively while ensuring data integrity and compliance with accounting standards.  Accounts Payable

• Manage the day-to-day accounts payable activity to support the organisation's short-term obligations owed to its creditors or suppliers, including but not limited to: 
• Utilise cloud-based software to manage supplier invoice activity.
• Dealing with external creditor and supplier queries. 
• Assisting the Finance Manager with supplier contract renewals.

Account Receivable

• Manage the day-to-day accounts receivable activity between the organisation and its clients, customers, and donors, including but not limited to:

About the oppurtunity

The London Programme Coordinator will be responsible for managing a caseload of up to seven partner schools, attending and coordinating weekly tutoring sessions, developing relationships with pupils, school staff and volunteer tutors and collecting data for monitoring and evaluation purposes. This role plays a crucial part in overseeing the quality of face to face and online tutoring sessions to ensure effective and impactful programme delivery.

Duties and responsibilities 

• Responsible for the delivery of Action Tutoring’s tutoring programmes in partner schools, whether online or face to face. This includes working closely to manage and effectively communicate with all key stakeholders: schools, pupils and volunteer tutors; leading weekly face to face and online tutoring sessions; leading on reviewing and improving programme delivery, using data to reliably assess programme performance.

• Responsible for overseeing the quality of both face to face and online tutoring, engaging in quality assurance processes, and providing feedback to volunteer tutors to ensure effective and impactful delivery.

• Develop and strengthen relationships with key stakeholders in partner schools, including members of the Senior Leadership Team and subject teachers.

• Update and maintain Action Tutoring’s database, including collecting data for monitoring and evaluation purposes, such as attendance records, baseline and interim assessments and end of programme surveys. Reporting regularly on key performance indicators.

Job Description

To provide advocacy support to a caseload of clients with complex mental health needs, including support around housing, finances, health, domestic abuse and other issues. CARA’s advocacy service focuses primarily on meeting the needs of some of our most complex clients – victims and survivors who would be unable to access other advocacy services.  The role will also involve supporting the wider CARA team in signposting other clients to external advocacy agencies, as appropriate and attendance at CARA groups to provide a drop-in advocacy surgery.

Main Responsibilities

·To manage a caseload of complex clients seeking short and long-term advocacy support, including support around housing, finances, health, domestic abuse and other issues.

·To manage referrals in to CARA’s Advocacy service, ensuring clients meet the referral criteria.

·To provide line-management for CARA’s social care placement worker and potential future advocacy volunteers.

·To assess all new referrals to CARA’s advocacy services, allocating cases to members of the advocacy team, as appropriate.

Since 2011 Disability Africa has developed a model using playschemes as hubs to deliver essential lifesaving services to extremely vulnerable disabled children and to end their exclusion in low-income African communities. Using this model, we have worked with project partners in Kenya, The Gambia, Sierra Leone and Zambia. 680 disabled children have now attended our projects more than 90,000 times since 2011. Now the charity is planning to grow and expand with our 5-year plan (‘DA2029’) to replicate the Disability Africa Model to reach more disabled children across Africa.

By 2029 we will: 
• Start work with at least 4 new partners in Africa (as well as expected growth at our existing projects). 
• Deliver 160,000 attendances by at least 1,500 disabled children in 7 African countries.

We are commissioned to carry out Quality Checks of support services where people with a disability or mental ill health live, including Supported Living settings, Residential Homes, Day Services, Assessment and Treatment units and individual homes. The purpose of the Quality Checks is to ensure that people who live in these settings are safe, and living healthy, happy and meaningful lives and that the support they receive is appropriate to their needs.

All our Quality Checks involve a Quality Checker (an Expert by Experience) with lived experience of disability or mental ill health working alongside a Quality Checking Coordinator.  On visits, we talk with people living in these settings to gather information regarding their quality of life and the quality of care and support they have.

The Coordinator’s role is to organise the checks and facilitate them on the day, whilst the Expert by Experience asks most of the questions. The Coordinator is responsible for compiling all the information gathered during the Quality Check and producing a report which is shared with the Provider and Commissioners. The Coordinator also has line management responsibility for a small number of the quality checkers on the team.

As part of this role, you will also provide floating coordination support for a range of other projects.

Pension: IG operates the NEST pension scheme and will contribute 3% subject to qualifying status

Would you like to be involved in this new opportunity to support young people in Swansea develop the skills needed for the world of work?

Believe: Positive Destinations is a 12 week work readiness programme for young people aged 16 to 25.  The programme, part funded by the National Lottery Community Fund, has been developed specifically for young people who have little or no experience of the world of work. It is a holistic programme, it will support them to develop workplace skills, build their aspirations, increase self-confidence as well as providing them with strategies to manage their wellbeing. 

As the Project Co-ordinator you will assist the CSM with the development of this new service. This will include building a network of work placement providers and referral sources. You will be the main contact for placement providers and will provide direct support to participants to ensure they are achieving their potential. You will be responsible for delivering the programme to cohorts of up to 8 participants.

What does the job role involve:

• Promotion of the service at networking events and online.
• Establish a network of appropriate placement providers throughout Swansea and be the main contact for placement supervisors for the duration of the placement.
• Establish links with organisations who will be referring into the service, this will include Education, Leaving Care and NEET services.
• Delivery of a 12 week work readiness programme to cohorts of up to 8 participants including the delivery of Agored Cymru accredited units.
• Supporting young people to achieve their development goals.
• Responsibility for gathering and collating relevant data and contribution to report writing as per the request of the service manager and the commissioner of service.
• Tracking service user progress through the use of outcomes scoring over the duration of the programme and after exit, using a young person centred approach.
• Provide advice and guidance to PW1s in manager's absence.
• Standard service operating hours will be 9am to 5pm Monday to Thursday and 9am to 4.30pm Friday, however the role requires some flexibility around hours as we support young people around their needs.

Essential criteria

• Self-motivated and highly organised.
• Experience of working with young people aged 16 to 25 years in a one to one and group work context.
• Experience of working with young people who are NEET (not engaged in education, employment or training) in a relevant setting.
• Experience of delivering group work programmes.
• Assistance in the development of a service.
• Experience of keeping statistics and writing reports.
• Ability to network and establish strong positive working relationships with partner organisations.
• Experience of mentoring or taking on a leadership role.
• Desire to work towards positive outcomes for young people.
• Good ICT and presentation skills.
• Ability to travel to meet the requirements of the post.

Navigators are the first point of contact into the Recovery and wellbeing pathway in the Recovery and Wellbeing Service.

Our Navigators signpost people to services within the borough that are tailored to their goals, needs and aspirations. Service users may be provided with information and advice or be signposted internally and/or externally. Follow up calls are made to service users to ensure signposted services have been accessed.  The Navigators also support people who may need support in small steps towards connecting with resources and opportunities available.

Role Summary

The Challenge Events Officer will work closely with the Senior Community and Challenge Events Manager (SCCEM) and Engagement Assistant (EA) to deliver significant elements of the charity’s fundraising strategy, in particular our challenge events. The post holder will be responsible for recruitment, management and stewardship of our existing challenge event portfolio to increase income in an area which has seen significant growth.

Detention Action is a small organisation with a big impact. Since 1993, we have worked to improve the welfare of people in detention centres and tirelessly campaign alongside our beneficiaries to reduce the use of immigration detention. We work on the frontline with people in immigration detention, as well as challenging injustices in asylum, detention and deportation systems in the UK.

We are looking for a Fundraising Lead to join our organisation and ensure the smooth running of our fundraising operations. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate individual who is looking to develop their fundraising skills, and to join us in defending the rights of people in detention at a critical time for our organisation and the wider immigration and human rights sector.
