Job Description:

We are seeking a motivated and experienced HR Officer to join our team. The HR Officer will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of all HR functions within the charity. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in human resources, excellent organisational skills, and a passion for supporting a dynamic team dedicated to making a difference in the lives of children and young people.

Key Responsibilities:

- Recruitment and Onboarding:

  - Manage the end-to-end recruitment process, including job postings, candidate screening, interviews, and selection.

  - Coordinate the onboarding process for new employees, ensuring a smooth transition and positive induction experience.

- Compliance and Record Keeping:

  - Ensure compliance with all relevant employment laws and regulations.

General HR administration including using Monday

  - Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records and HR databases.

- Policy Development and Implementation:

Qualifications and Experience:

- Proven experience in an HR Officer role or similar position.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

- Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism.

- Proficiency in HR software and Microsoft Office Suite and Monday

- CIPD qualification or equivalent is desirable.

Personal Attributes:

- Passion for working within the charity sector and supporting the welfare of children and young people.

About Us:
Evolve Counselling is a long-established charitable social enterprise, providing low cost, affordable or funded mental health counselling to adults in Cambridgeshire and surrounding counties. Our professional counselling community is made up of 50 – 60 qualified self-employed practitioners, working part-time to deliver talking therapies both online and in person. 

We deliver around 500 counselling sessions per month to a broad range of individuals, many of whom would not otherwise be able to access therapeutic support. Evolve also provides supervision, reflective practice, critical incident support, and mental health awareness and related training to organisations and businesses large and small.

We are in the early stages of developing ambitious growth and innovation programmes, so this is a perhaps the most interesting time to be part of Evolve since we started in the 1970s. Opportunities for new Trustees to make their mark are considerable.

What We’re Looking For:
We are searching for an experienced HR specialist who can support our board, committees, and the CEO as we move through our next strategic stage of consolidation, then growth. Although long-established and successful, Evolve is reshaping itself and your HR expertise will be instrumental in positioning our charity to successfully meet the ever-growing demands and opportunities for supporting good mental health in our communities. Please note, a background in counselling is NOT a prerequisite for this role. Training will be available in general charity governance and in specific areas such as charity finance.

Your skills and knowledge, whether gained in the charity or commercial worlds, in a corporate HR Department, or a specialist consultancy, will help us to plan and “do the right thing” for our small staff and our self-employed counsellors, as we grow.

Including quarterly board meetings, committee sessions (at present virtual), a face-to-face AGM event, away days, and regular meetings with our CEO and the trustees, we anticipate a flexible time commitment of around 0-5 hours per month

Inscape House is a non-maintained special needs school based in Stockport, Cheshire. It’s one of the specialist education services provided by the charity the Together Trust. We cater for children and young people with autism from Year 1 to Year 14 with an Education Health and Care Plan and whose needs require a higher level of support than local authority education settings can provide. At Inscape House School we recognise that every child is different. Our team of educationalists and therapists work together to meet the individual needs of students and support them to overcome barriers to learning.

Trustee Time Commitment

Each Trustee is expected to be able to dedicate sufficient time to the role. We estimate that Trustees commit on average 8-10 days a year, not including travel.

Terms and Compensation

The Trustees serve a three-year term, and will be eligible for re-appointment for one additional term. Trustee roles are not accompanied by any financial remuneration, although Board-related travel expenses may be claimed.

About the role

As a Policy and Campaigns Volunteer, you will play a key role in supporting our efforts to influence policy, raise awareness, and advocate for improved mental health services for young people. You will work closely with our Policy and Campaigns team to help shape and deliver impactful campaigns and contribute to policy development aimed at creating lasting change.

We are looking for dynamic volunteers who will help us to advocate for change, and work collaboratively with other Policy Volunteers and across the wider charity, to plan, create, and roll out policy and campaigns.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in research, analysis and drafting of policy papers, briefing notes, and reports related to mental health issues affecting young people.

• Support the development and creation of campaigns that raise awareness and push for reforms in mental health services

• Monitor relevant policy developments, governmental reports, and key discussions within the mental health sector.

• Help with the development of training materials or toolkits for volunteers and supporters to increase awareness and engagement around mental health policy.

• Attend and contribute to team meetings and brainstorming sessions for campaign strategies and policy priorities.

• Contribute to the drafting of letters, petitions, and policy submissions aimed at influencing decision makers.

• Engage with young people to ensure their voices are heard and included in policy recommendations and campaign efforts.

Epsom RDA provides opportunities for disabled people to improve their health and well-being through the therapeutic power of horses.

We are a thriving charity providing therapy, fun and achievement for over 200 disabled participants delivered by a team of volunteers and our own herd of ponies. We have exciting plans for growth and to increase the range of activities we offer. 

To assist us in this we are looking for a new trustee with responsibility for fundraising. We are looking for someone with experience of fundraising in a charity or not for profit environment. Excellent relationship building and communication skills are essential, as is a desire to drive improvements and get things done.

As we are entirely run by volunteers, trustees need to be hands on and be able to collaborate with volunteers to achieve our aims. We foster an environment that is inclusive as well as diverse, where our people can be themselves.  Every idea and perspective is valued so that we can reflect the community we serve.

Key activities:

• Develop a fundraising strategy which sets out where best to focus our efforts to ensure we raise the funds needed to fund our ongoing operation and deliver our future strategic plans be that corporate fundraising, trusts and foundations, individual giving, legacies, events or a combination of all of these;
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with our existing funders;
• Establish new relationships to develop a range of new income streams and opportunities in line with the strategy;
• Work with our marketing and communications trustee to devise a regular programme of communications to existing and potential funders;
• Build and maintain close working relationships with our team of skilled events fundraising volunteers;
• Continually look for new opportunities, keeping up to date with the work of RDAs across the country and seek out new ideas and opportunities;
• Be a core member of the Finance, Performance and Governance Sub-Committee.

Skills and attributes:

• Experience of creating and/or delivering fundraising strategies;
• Excellent organisational and strategic planning skills;
• The ability to build trusted relationships with a variety of people including existing and potential funders, volunteers and fellow trustees;

ABOUT FARESHARE

FareShare is the UK’s national network of charitable food redistributors, made up of 18 independent organisations. Together, we take good quality surplus food from right across the food industry and get it to nearly 8,500 frontline charities and community groups, (CFMs), including school breakfast clubs, older people’s lunch clubs, homeless shelters, and community cafes. Every week we provide enough food to create almost one million meals for vulnerable people.

FareShare Greater Manchester has been run by EMERGE 3Rs since 2008. EMERGE is a charity that has been active in the 3Rs (reduce, reuse and recycle) since 1996. From our regional centre based on New Smithfield Market we redistribute food to over 250 CFMs.

As a shop volunteer, you’ll help raise vital funds for our work towards everyday equality for disabled people. You will make a real difference to the lives of disabled people and their families. 

About you

We are looking for people with or without board level experience, and we would welcome applications from all ages and backgrounds.

In order to continue to enhance the diversity of our board, we would particularly like to hear from people from ethnically marginalised groups, particularly Black African backgrounds, LGBTQ+ people, people with physical disabilities, and other marginalised groups, and especially those with direct experience of services provided by our hospice.

On this occasion and following a recent skills audit of our current trustees, we are particularly looking for people with expertise in any of the following areas:

• Finance and accounting (with a view to succession planning for our current Treasurer)
• Co-production, community engagement and community development
• Property and estate management

Commitments from trustees and from the hospice

Trustees are expected to attend, in person or via tele-conferencing:

• Sessions agreed as part of each trustee’s personalised induction programme.

• Bi-monthly board meetings.

• Approximately two board away days per year, dedicated to strategic planning.

Where they are willing and able, trustees may be asked to join one of the board sub-committees.

Whilst this is an unpaid, voluntary role, out-of-pocket expenses will be reimbursed. A personalised induction programme, training, support and mentorship will be provided.

Person specification

Each trustee must have:

• commitment to the vision of the hospice

• willingness to meet the minimum time commitment

• integrity

• strategic vision

• good, independent judgement

• the ability to think creatively

• willingness to speak their mind

• understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship

• the ability to work effectively as a member of a team and to take decisions for the good

of the hospice.

Previous board/trustee experience is not necessary and the hospice welcomes applications from all ages and backgrounds.
