Part 1: Role Purpose:

This role is a great introduction to the world of charity finance as a key member of the busy HQ finance function. The role is primarily focused on HQ finances and will also work with colleagues across our global finance team. The role focuses on accounts payable and as the finance assistant develops in the role will offer the chance to work across a number of finance functions, including: treasury, accounts receivable, month end close, management accounting, supporting year end audit. This role provides a great opportunity to experience the full breadth of finance work in a charity across all functions in a varied and interesting role, learning quickly and making a real difference from day one.

Part 2: Key Responsibilities:

1) (60%) Accounts Payable

• Recording all approved supplier invoices, requisitions, staff expenses and other expenditure in the accounting system ensuring that they are all appropriately coded including the correct cost centre, GL code, projects and donor codes.
• Ensure that all supporting documentation for all transactions are uploaded into the finance system.
• Ensuring that all invoices for payment are appropriately approved by budget holder.
• Running short term cash flow forecasting and recommending bank account transfers including moving cash held in reserve into current access accounts. Looking for value for money in Foreign Currency transfers by choosing the best means of payment from available payment platforms.
• Ensure timely payment of all invoices by managing at least two payment runs a week and additional runs as required; setting up payments on online banking platforms and sending out requests for payment approvals to payment authorisers and verifying that all payments are fully approved by the deadline set.
• Once the payment is made, allocating the payment against the invoices in the Finance system and reviewing to ensure that all payments are allocated correctly.
• Reviewing staff expense claims to ensure that all supporting documentation is provided before payment.
• Supporting monthly staff credit card reconciliations to run the monthly statements.
• Monthly creditor account reconciliations to ensure correct allocation of payments to supplier accounts and validating any open account balances.
• Any other responsibilities relating to Accounts Payable.

2) (20%) Month end support and general support

• Complete bank reconciliations each month for all group bank accounts.
• Uploading monthly exchange rates to the Finance System
• Ensuring supporting information for transactions is correctly stored in electronic format on Teams such as bank statements, remittance advices, credit statements.
• Assist in preparation of internal reports.
• Assisting with compilation of information for Gift Aid returns.
• General support and assistance to the team including administrative duties and managing the office post.
• Other ad hoc support to the wider operations team as may be required.

3) (20%) Accounts Receivable

• Supporting with work on accounts receivable including accessing, downloading and saving in a systematic manner reports from donor portals, bank account and other sources.
• Analysing and coding income reports in Excel and uploading it to the Finance system on a timely basis, at least weekly.
• Maintaining details of cheques received and paying into the bank account.
• Issuing donor receipts.
• Raising donor invoices and requests for payments.
• Income and customer account reconciliations.
• Any other responsibilities relating to Accounts Receivable.

QuarterFive are delighted to be partnering with The Orpheus Centre, which supports young disabled adults to live and work as independently as they are able. They do this through developing their confidence and independent living skills, using arts-based, bespoke learning, work experience and supported living programmes delivered from their base in Surrey. All of their learners are learning disabled and some are also physically disabled.

The Orpheus Centre is located at a beautiful converted farm that provides teaching and performance spaces and self-contained accommodation. However, their success in enabling these young people to thrive means that they are over subscribed every year and have outgrown the current facilities.

The capital appeal will convert a building next to the Centre to allow for more learners to enrol, in particular more learners with more complex needs. Currently, the quiet phase is projected for 2024-2027, with the build phase being projected for 2027-2029.

The Head of Capital Appeal will sit on the SMT, reporting to the CEO, and be responsible for leading a small team of fundraisers also dedicated to raising funds for the build. While there will be a team to support, the Head of Capital Appeal will spend most of their time personally fundraising as well. There are existing opportunities, including a well-connected President (also the Founder), a Capital Appeal Committee which will be set up, and an existing pool of donors. A focus on new business, however, will also be crucial for the success of the project.

As Head of Capital Appeal, you will: 

• Develop, implement and monitor the private and public phases of the capital appeal strategy to enable the Orpheus Centre to meet the appeal target
• Establish a high performing capital appeal committee of volunteers to cultivate and steward potential significant donors
• Deliver target income from a range of sources, primarily major donors, trusts and foundations and statutory sources, but not discounting other viable income streams
• Personally secure significant major gifts for the capital project
• Design, recruit and lead a team of fundraisers to support on fundraising for the capital project
• Research and identify potential funders for the capital project
• Work closely with the build project team, to ensure clear communication between the funding and the building of the project
• Provide timely reports for Senior Management Team and Trustees to facilitate effective cash flow management and decision making

Ideal skills and experience:

• Significant experience in a senior high value fundraising role
• Demonstrable experience of securing 5- and 6-figure major gifts
• Extensive track record in working with trusts, major donors and statutory funders
• Experience of line managing teams of fundraisers

Since the Pathology Portal platform launched on 15 August 2022, the number of users, resources and editors continues to grow quickly. The Pathology Portal won the prestigious Outstanding Innovation award at the Healthcare Honours on 23 November 2023 and so this is a great opportunity to join the successful team.  We are looking for someone to fill a 14 hours per week job share, working collaboratively with the existing part-time Learning Platform Technician to support editors who contribute and upload learning material to the Pathology Portal.

The Learning Platform Technician will review and edit materials including videos, ensuring they are in line with requirements before assisting with the upload process and supporting editors in the process by dealing with queries or issues as they arise. The postholder will also administer the Editorial Board meetings.

Scientific experience is not required for this role and training will be provided on how to upload materials. As the Pathology Portal is a joint project between the College and NHS England, it is important that the uploaded materials adhere to the Portal’s brand identity and style guidelines.

The role includes a wide range of tasks involving content upload and administration, as well as communicating with various stakeholders. The role will be well suited to an individual who is keen to learn new skills, enjoys problem solving and providing feedback to support the continuous development of the Pathology Portal.

We are seeking a Programmes Delivery Officer within our Global Relationships Team, whose role will be to support our vision to equip the Methodist Church in Britain to be a growing, evangelistic, inclusive, justice-seeking Church for the 21st century.

Reporting to the Deputy Director of Global Relationships, the successful candidate will be a collaborative and professional member of the Global Relationships (GR) team within the Mission Team as it fulfils its strategy in response to Our Calling and a Methodist Way of Life.

In this post, you will focus on the following priorities:

• develop and implement our People to People programmes, including long-term Mission Partnering, Encounter Worldwide, Encounter Together, Global Mission Fellows, the incoming Evangelists Programme, Church Twinning and more.
• help facilitate and strengthen ongoing relationships between Partner Churches and the Methodist Church in Britain, and provide Methodist people with unique opportunities to learn and engage in mission in a variety of global contexts.
• promote the work of global relationships with children and young people at 3Generate, their annual gathering.

About You

Key Requirements

• Graduate qualification in mission, development studies, project management or equivalent, together with relevant experience.
• Excellent understanding of the global mission context in the 21st Century.
• Proven ability to work cross culturally and to relate to persons within different globally based organisations.
• Highly organised and able to track multiple areas of work.
• Availability for occasional on call and out of hours work.
