TRUSTEE OPPORTUNITY
The charity are looking to appoint three Trustees and have identified the following skill areas of interest;
- HR experience - Ideally leading HR strategy, ensuring legal compliance, delivering L&D strategy, pay & reward frameworks and fostering a positive work culture
- Policy, Influencing & Public Affairs experience - ideally working in policy, influencing and/or public affairs. We would also welcome media partnerships and media campaigns experience
- Fundraising strategy and implementation experience - Ideally at Fundraising Director level or have undertaken this role prior to moving to a broader role. Ideally you will have an understanding of a broad range of income generation with experience of leading supporter engagement strategies and successfully increasing reach
The charity are looking to improve the diversity on their Board, including ethnicity, socio-economic and applicants who have connections to underserved communities. They would also welcome applicants from Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, or the north of England. Most Trustees on the Board already have first-hand lived experience of Crohn’s and Colitis so new applicants for the role will not be required to have this experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensuring that the charity complies with its constitution, charity law and any other relevant legislation or regulations, works to fulfil its charitable objects and applies its resources exclusively in pursuance of its objects.
- Contributing actively to the Board of Trustees’ role in giving firm strategic direction to the organisation, setting overall policy, defining goals and evaluating performance.
- Safeguarding the good name and values of the charity.
- Ensuring the effective and efficient management and administration of the charity.
- Ensuring the financial stability of the charity.
- Ensuring the proper investment of the charity’s funds.
- Employing and being responsible for the organisation’s staff
- Using any specific knowledge or experience they have to help the Board of Trustees reach sound decisions.
- Promoting the charity among their own contacts.

About the Berkshire MS Therapy Centre
The Berkshire MS Therapy Centre (BMSTC) supports people with MS and their families, friends and carers. We provide a range of specialist therapies and a friendly, inclusive community. Although our modern purpose-built centre is situated in Berkshire, we also welcome people living in adjoining counties and offer online services.
Role
We are seeking a Fundraising specialist to bring their skills and expertise to our Board of Trustees.
To support our MS community, the Berkshire MS Therapy Centre currently needs to raise
£650,000 every year to provide our current level of services. After launching our charity strategy in 2023, we have ambitions for the future and we need to grow our income to fulfil these plans.
To support our charity strategy, we have launched a fundraising strategy and a communications strategy. Recognising the importance of growing income, we have recently invested in fundraising.
You will play a vital role as you use your direct experience of fundraising to support our fundraising team and strengthen our Board’s expertise.
As a member of the Trustee board, you will also be involved in setting the charity's strategic direction and ensuring that it is run in a compliant and efficient manner. It is expected that trustees will attend the majority of monthly meetings and the annual AGM either in person or online.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the fundraising strategy.
- Assess the risks and threats currently facing fundraising and highlight these to the Board.
- Understand the ‘Best Practices’ of Fundraising and ensure they are followed at the charity.
- Help develop the fundraising capability within the charity.
- Advise the Board of the challenges and successes of fundraising and what this may mean for current/future plans.
- Advocate for the fundraising team at trustee meetings.
- Represent the charity with key stakeholders.
- Work with the fundraising team to access and develop new ideas.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of BMSTC's strategic plan.
- Ensure that the charity is run in a compliant and efficient manner.

The Mlambe Project builds school infrastructure in Malawi Africa, one of the poorest countries in the world. We change lives through enabling access to education by transforming classrooms from "under a tree" (literally) into fully functional school blocks. About Roots Academy
At Roots Academy, we’ve built a learning experience that’s changing the lives of the ummah’s future leaders, change-makers and visionaries.
Our vision is enabling university students to live God-centred lives, so we teach structured, engaging and transformative face-to-face foundational Islamic education to over 1,800 students across the UK.
Role Summary
Roots Academy is a non-profit company, established in 2020. The team currently consists of 80 core volunteers across the UK. Roots first began fundraising during Ramadan 2023, raising over £25,000 in one off donations, and £2,200 in monthly commitments. Building on this, Roots is now seeking a Volunteer Fundraising Team Leader, to build the Fundraising function, and help increase donations.
Key tasks
- Work with the Exec team to develop a fundraising strategy
- Identify opportunities for Roots Academy to raise funds – e.g. networking with major donors, events, community fundraising, mosque collections, partnerships, grants, trusts, foundations etc.
- Lead the fundraising team of volunteers to implement the fundraising strategy, and raise funds
- Work with the marketing and finance teams to maintain donor records
- Work with marketing to give feedback to donors on how funds are utilised to deliver Islamic Education
What we’re looking for
- Experience in income generation, fundraising or business development in the non-profit sector
- Knowledge of Islamic values and faith-based giving
- Experience working with the Muslim Community, in the UK

The Chair of Trustees provides strategic leadership and direction to the Board, ensuring the effective governance of the charity. In this role, you will guide the organisation in its mission to help adults learn to read, ensuring that it operates efficiently and sustainably while delivering a profound impact on individuals’ lives.
You will lead the Board and work closely with the CEO to advance the charity’s vision that every adult who wants to learn to read, can.
Key responsibilities
Leadership and Governance:
- Lead the Board of Trustees in providing strategic oversight and effective governance, ensuring compliance with the charity’s constitution, legal, and regulatory obligations
- Ensure the charity stays true to its mission of helping adults learn to read and that all activities align with its vision, values, and strategic objectives
- Foster a culture of collaboration, inclusion, and accountability within the Board
Board Management:
- Chair Trustee meetings, setting agendas in partnership with the CEO or senior staff to ensure discussions focus on the charity’s priorities
- Encourage open, respectful debate and collective decision-making among Trustees, ensuring clarity of outcomes and actions
- Oversee the recruitment, induction, and development of Trustees, ensuring the Board is diverse, skilled, and effective in fulfilling its responsibilities
- Monitor and assess the performance of the Board, supporting Trustees to carry out their duties
Support to Senior Staff:
- Function as the primary link between the Board and the CEO, offering guidance,support, and constructive challenge
- Conduct regular appraisals and set objectives for the CEO, ensuring they have the resources and backing to succeed
- Serve as a sounding board for major decisions and initiatives, especially those that advance the charity’s literacy goals
Advocacy and Representation:
- Function as an ambassador for the charity, promoting its work to external stakeholders, including funders, partners and the public
- Represent the charity at public events, campaigns, and meetings to raise awareness about adult literacy challenges and successes
Risk and Compliance:
- Ensure the charity has effective policies and systems for financial management, safeguarding and risk mitigation
- Oversee the preparation of statutory reports, ensuring compliance with the Charity Commission and other regulatory bodies
- Safeguard the charity’s reputation and ensure its activities comply with all relevant laws and its governing documents
Strategic Planning:
- Collaborate with Trustees and staff to monitor progress against strategic goals,adapting plans as necessary to meet evolving challenges and opportunities

Role Summary
As a Notion Specialist, you will play a key role in helping volunteers and teams effectively utilise Notion for their work. Your expertise will ensure that teams can optimise workflows, manage information efficiently, and collaborate seamlessly within the platform. You will provide training, manage permissions, and support teams in structuring Notion workspaces tailored to their needs.
Key tasks
- Training & Support
- Conduct training sessions for volunteers on how to use Notion.
- Develop and maintain training materials (e.g., guides, videos, FAQs) to support ongoing learning.
- Provide one-on-one or group support to answer Notion-related queries.
- Workspace Optimisation
- Help teams structure their Notion workspaces to suit their workflows and case scenarios.
- Assist in building and refining dashboards, databases, templates, and automations.
- Provide recommendations on best practices for using Notion efficiently.
- Permissions & Access Management
- Set up and manage permissions to ensure appropriate access levels for different roles.
- Regularly review and update access permissions to maintain security and efficiency.
- Process Improvement & Documentation
- Identify opportunities to improve organisational efficiency using Notion.
- Document standard operating procedures (SOPs) and best practices within Notion.
- Support teams in integrating Notion with other tools where relevant.
- Ongoing Support & Troubleshooting
- Act as the go-to person for troubleshooting Notion-related issues.
- Stay updated on new Notion features and advise the team on potential improvements.
- Gather feedback from users to continuously enhance Notion use across the organisation.
What we’re looking for
- Strong experience using Notion, with the ability to teach others effectively.
- Understanding of database structures, workflows, and automations within Notion.

About YAUK
Youth Advantage UK is a charitable organization that uses a research-led approach to inform policy work and projects that aim to promote and further the human rights of young people aged 11 to 25 across the United Kingdom.
Please note that this is a remote VOLUNTEER role.

- Acting as a bridge between the CEO and other senior management, ensuring smooth communication
