We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Business Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of the CIC delivering the business support services which underpin the strategic growth of our organisation.
The Business Manager will be responsible for financial management, operational efficiency, HR, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations. This role requires a proactive individual with excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Management:

Oversee daily operations, ensuring services are delivered efficiently and effectively

Develop and implement operational policies and procedures to enhance service delivery and to comply with stakeholder contracts and agreements and all relevant regulations and legal requirements.

Oversee programme administration processes to ensure the efficient management of these areas

Monitor and evaluate the performance of services and programmes with the Management Team. Coordinate the delivery of effective Management Information and analysis of Appeer operations for regular review by the CEO and Board

Ensure all necessary IT software, hardware and resources across the organisation are implemented and managed well, securely and up-to-date.
Financial and Funding Management:

Oversee financial reporting, including monthly management accounts, and ensure compliance with financial regulations with Financial Manager

Support the Board of Directors and Finance Committee with financial reporting, analysis and financial and sustainability strategy development for the organisation with Financial Manager
-
Identify and pursue funding opportunities, including grants, donations, and partnerships; manage funding relationships and grant monitoring and reporting with CEO and internal staff
-
Manage external supplier contracts and relationships: ensuring contracts, insurances, subscriptions and rentals/hires are maintained to ensure continuity of cover/use and offer best value for the organisation
HR Management:

Oversee the management of HR across the organisation, advising on the strategic recruitment, management and development of staff and volunteers

Responsible for the coordination of recruitment, induction and training of new recruits

Provide ‘business partner’ HR support to Line Managers

Coordinate Appeer’s process of regular performance and reward reviews and coordinate a programme of ongoing training and development opportunities

Ensure compliance with HR policies and employment legislation and that employment contracts and the Employee Handbook are kept under ongoing review

Ensure best practice delivery of employment practices in line with Appeer’s values

Line manage the Admin Officer, Finance Manager and Designated Safeguarding Lead
Strategic Planning:

Work with the CEO to develop and implement the Appeer CIC’s strategic plan

As a member of the senior leadership team, support the CEO and board in organisational strategy development

Identify opportunities for growth and development of services

Foster relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, funders, community partners
Compliance and Risk Management:
-
Ensure Appeer complies with all relevant regulations and legal requirements. Manage risk, including health and safety, data protection, complaints and safeguarding. Communicate relevant policies and procedures to staff, families and service users (as appropriate)

Work with the CEO/Engagement Manager to ensure that Appeer CIC fulfils its duties and responsibilities associated with internal and external contracts and agreements

Act as Appeer’s Data Controller for GDPR purposes

Maintain the organisation’s Risk Register and coordinate a formal quarterly review and report to the CEO

Maintain accurate records and ensure robust reporting mechanisms are in place
-
Act as the channel of communication with Appeer’s insurers and, legal advisers when issues arise, keeping the CEO and Board informed as necessary
About APPEER
Appeer is a Community Interest Company (CIC) set up to deliver services that support autistic girls and women (and those assigned female at birth) to connect with peers, to develop their life/work skills and to support their wellbeing. Over the past 5 years our founder and current CEO has taken the vision of creating a community where autistic girls and women can connect from a small, passionate team into a robust and impactful organisation.
We provide In Person and Online Activity groups and programmes, Alternative Provision, events and resources for those in the community that we serve, their parents/carers and other professionals. We are not a therapeutic setting and as such do not offer clinical support or 1:1 supervision.
We were established in 2019 and have since grown rapidly from a small startup to a robust small-medium enterprise with a turnover of £250k and serving over 400 beneficiaries a year.

About the Role
The Retail & E-Commerce Manager will be responsible for creating a seamless digital shopping experience and online customer journey that creates loyalty through best- in-class customer service and by providing a range of gifts that meet the needs of current and future members and supporters. They will effectively manage the performance of the retail operations, ensuring net profit is maximized in line with Mothers’ Union strategic objectives and values. This role will have a particular focus on developing new customer channels and will need a strong understanding of digital marketing and using data and insight to grow sales.
About you
You are an experienced retail professional with a proven track record of delivering growth of retail sales across multiple channels. Working knowledge of managing a shopify retail business is essential along with experience in retail buying. Work Location/Hybrid Working Pattern
This role will be based at our Head Office in central London. Mothers’ Union operates a hybrid working model. Staff are required to work an aggregate minimum of 90 days per calendar year (pro rata for part timers) at our Head Office, Mary Sumner House in central London. Tuesdays are our anchor days where every staff member is expected to be at the office. The 90 days includes anchor Tuesdays. In addition, Thursday is a core working day where part time staff are expected to work, either at home or from the office as needed.

What the job involves

You’ll ensure that the team have strategic relationships with health stakeholders across the UK (e.g. Cancer Alliances/Health Boards) so that we can proactively engage them to support the delivery of our strategic priorities and rapidly react to care issues that arise.

About the Role
This role will be responsible for developing the vision and direction of the Communication and Marketing Strategy but will fundamentally be an operational management delivery role. Responsible for developing and rolling out a multi‐channel communication and marketing strategy that will:
- raise the profile of the charity by communicating news about projects, programmes, and partnerships on social channels, on online and print media outlets, TV networks,
- deliver communications to generate sales to secure a pipeline of farm residential visit bookings from beneficiary groups (being children from schools in disadvantaged communities, youth groups, young carers, children in care, etc) across England and Wales.
- secure income from fundraising by communicating the charity’s mission, vision, and values to donors, funders, trusts and foundations, and corporate partners.
The successful applicant will have considerable experience of developing and delivering a communication and marketing strategy as well as experience of designing and delivering multi-channel sales and marketing campaigns. Excellent people skills are key, as you will need to build strong relationships with a range of stakeholders.
Key areas of responsibility include:
- Raising the profile of the Charity by devising and implementing a beneficiary‐focused communications strategy that supports both the sales and fundraising function, including print, social, and online communications that target teachers and other adults who are key decision makers for our beneficiaries.
- Developing and embedding an integrated communications and marketing strategy to deliver the ambitions of the Business plan, to reach new markets and successfully translate connections into bookings (‘sales’) or generate income from funders to support fundraising.
- Leading on the management and development of all channels of communication for the Charity: social media, website, YouTube channel, print media.
This position is home based but you will be required to travel to our farms and Head Office based in Exeter as required in order to fulfil the role.

About the role
You will apply a scientific and commercial approach to help deliver on our research strategy. You will be responsible for overseeing the translational research activity within the existing portfolio of Versus Arthritis funded research to support innovation and commercial development of research intellectual property. You will work with research award holders, University technology transfer teams and internal teams within the charity to ensure all Versus Arthritis research is adequately identified, protected and exploited. As well as identify, develop and maintain strategic partnerships that contribute to the growth of our current translational research portfolio and the development of new areas of research activity that will increase the likelihood of clinical and/or commercial success for musculoskeletal (MSK) research.

Who are we looking for?
ShelterBox is seeking an accomplished and highly competent individual to provide excellent operational support to the organisation. You must have proven experience of roles where you have had a high degree of autonomy and highly developed planning and organisational skills.
We are looking for candidates with experience in strategy, internal communications and improving operational efficiency. Ideally, you will also have knowledge or experience of working for the voluntary sector or a charity.
This is a varied and busy role and to be successful you must have strong prioritisation and time management skills, excellent verbal, and written communication skills along with the ability to develop effective and positive working relationships internally and externally.
You will be a strong team player, who can also work autonomously to clear deadlines. You must also be able to analyse and summarise large amounts of information quickly.
Strong interpersonal, relationship management and influencing skills are also important, as is the ability to work with a variety of stakeholders with different agendas

Main role and responsibilities
The Business Operations Manager will:
· Support the COO with overseeing strategy delivery, ensuring the coordination of strategic projects and providing project support where needed.

· Communicating our strategy to internal stakeholders, helping them find and feel their place in it on an ongoing basis.
· Actively instigating senior stakeholders, including the Executive Team, to communicate frequently and with clarity to the wider organisation.
· Support timely and effective dissemination of internal communication, keeping all stakeholders across the ShelterBox network updated on delivery of our mission and strategy.
· Supporting identification of key communications themes and messages from meetings you attend.
· Working with the COO to deliver projects relating to operational efficiencies.
