Galop, the UK’s LGBT+ anti-abuse charity, is seeking a Comms Manager who is passionate about improving life for the LGBT+ community in the UK.

Founded in 1982, Galop has been championing the needs and safety of the LGBT+ community for 40 years. Galop works directly with thousands of LGBT+ people who have experienced abuse and violence every year. We specialise in supporting victims and survivors of domestic abuse, sexual violence, hate crime, and other forms of abuse including honour-based abuse, forced marriage, and so-called conversion therapies. We are a service run by LGBT+ people, for LGBT+ people, and the needs of our community are at the centre of what we do.

We run a National Abuse & Violence Helpline, which brings together our four national support helplines for LGBT+ victims and survivors of: domestic abuse; hate crime; rape and sexual abuse; and so-called “conversion therapy”. We provide longer-term support to thousands of LGBT+ victims and survivors of abuse through our advocacy and therapeutic services. We are person-centred, empowerment-based, and trauma-informed – meaning our focus is always on helping our clients decide what is best for them, and then supporting them through their journey.

We use what we learn through working on the frontlines with clients to work on national and local policy change, to improve outcomes for LGBT+ victims and survivors of abuse and violence. We build evidence through key pieces of research around LGBT+ people’s experiences of abuse and violence. We push for legislative change, improved statutory guidance for victims, and better understanding of the needs of LGBT+ people around the country.

About the Comms Manager

The Comms Manager is a strategic, hands-on and varied role that reports into our Head of Fundraising and Comms. You will play a pivotal part in helping Galop to reach our community, increase engagement amongst our supporters and amplify the voices of LGBT+ abuse and violence victims.

You will be our first point of contact with the press and media, and lead on drafting statements, providing quotes, arranging media and briefing the CEO for any external appearances.

You will have responsibility and oversight of our social media channels and website content, working closely with key stakeholders across our fundraising, frontline and senior management teams to meet the needs of the charity and create content which resonates with our audience.

You will work with and support the CEO and Head of Fundraising and Comms to drive internal comms as Galop grows. You will also be responsible for co-creating, planning and delivering an annual communications plan for the organisation with the senior leadership team, ensuring an effective and consistent voice in both our proactive and reactive comms work.

This is a new position, which will play a critical role in the development and delivery of activity aimed at getting the public involved in our flagship Hearts Need More Westminster influencing campaign. The role will also provide campaigns support for our work to influence the Devolved Administrations in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland on key issues affecting heart patients in each of the four UK nations.

You’ll work closely with teams across the BHF to proactively spot opportunities to mobilise our supporters and cross-promote other BHF campaigns, including our Customer Journey and Marketing teams, and will be responsible for drafting copy in multiple formats for warm and cold audiences. You’ll also involve and engage people with lived experience in our campaigns work, working closely with our Heart Stories and Patient and Public Involvement teams.

Working arrangements

This is a blended role, where your work will be dual located between your home and one of four UK offices (Belfast, Cardiff, Edinburgh or London). There will be an expectation to travel to the London office (if this is not your preferred location) at least once a month, with some travel to each of the other nation offices throughout the year.

About you

Communication and Operations Officer Role

The Communication and Operations Officer will play a key role in the smooth day-to-day running of the Orangutan Foundation’s UK office and in raising the profile of this international conservation charity. Homeless Action is a large registered charity (No. 1063208) that offers accommodation with support to vulnerable single homeless people.  We are looking to appoint a part-time Chef to work flexibly across our hostel sites and at our Community & Hub: The Cafe@264 all based in central Blackpool. • Representing CRUK with the highest level of professionalism, treating the public fairly and with respect.

What skills will I need?

• Excellent communication skills and customer experience with confidence in speaking to the public

• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport quickly and influence others

• An ability to work under pressure

• Experience of delivering and achieving targets in a customer-related environment or similar

• Strong resilience to handle negative objections

• Experience in a fundraising role will be beneficial but is not essential.

Dad Matters is a PAIR (Parent and Infant Relationship) project specifically for Dads during the peri-natal period (conception to a child’s 2nd birthday). Primarily the project aims to raise awareness amongst dads, the wider community, and other professionals of the importance of:

• Fully involving and valuing fathers in the pregnancy and early parenthood journey
• Supporting healthy mental well-being of fathers
• Encouraging fathers to be attuned and responsive to their unborn and young baby’s needs, thus fostering healthy and positive attachment.

Home-Start Manchester already has a robust Dad Matters project offer running across the city as well as the ‘Universal offer’.

This role aims to widen the projects impact by reaching more Dads This will involve increasing participation in classes and events and delivering 1-1 support to dads referred into the service. The role will be supported by and be part of the wider Dad Matters team as well as being part of Home-Start Manchester. Responsibilities will include directing dads to appropriate services, offering practical guidance for baby preparation and care, bonding and attachment and providing empathetic support.

Weekly hours can be worked flexibly to support home/work life balance. Hours can be worked both in the office and at home, whilst meeting the need of the service. The ideal candidate would be someone who is an experienced Systems Administrator of HR systems, has experience of managing or overseeing a payroll function and writing reports, and has good knowledge of HR and data protection policies and processes.
