The role
The Director of Programmes will play a pivotal role in the strategic leadership and management of our Programmes Directorate. Reporting to the Chief Executive and working closely with the Board of Trustees, you will help shape the strategic direction of our key programmes and new business opportunities, driving meaningful progress and measurable results.
As a member of our Senior Management Team (SMT), you will support the CEO in steering the organisation towards continuous improvement and success, serving as a trusted adviser to the Foundation Group Board and Panels, and contributing to the Foundation’s overall strategic vision.

Are you a Media and PR professional who wants to use your skills to help support young people and their families to deal with the impact of cancer, both during and beyond treatment?
Charity People is partnering with Young Lives vs. Cancer to recruit an interim part time Media and PR Officer to join their team.
Joining the Media Team at a key time as the organisation embarks on the first stage of its North Star vision which will see them working with partner organisations to close gaps in the current provision of care for young people and their families by 2035.
Contract: Nine month interim role, four days (28 hours) per week
Salary: £34,616 FTE (outside London); £36,512 FTE (London)
Location: Home based with some travel to London or Bristol - ideally around one to two days per month

This is an important role where you will lead on communicating a portfolio of key areas of Young Lives vs Cancer's policy work, fundraising activities and services, to a wide range of audiences, identifying reactive opportunities and through targeted media campaigns.
Core responsibilities within the role will include:
- Manage media partnerships such as national media fundraising appeals or campaigns
- Establish quality effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders including Media and News outlets, journalists and charity partners
- Participate in the reactive news desk rota, responding to urgent media enquiries and providing advice to staff and senior managers
- Take advantage of opportunities to provide and publish reactive comment, opinion and content in a timely manner to involve Young Lives vs Cancer in news stories and debates that align with the charity's priorities
- Brief national, regional and local media (print, broadcast and online) on Young Lives vs Cancer and its activities. Support the Head of Media and PR to implement reputation management plans
- Brief staff spokespeople (including senior staff and specialist social workers) ahead of media interviews to ensure they are prepared and ready to speak on message
- Use data and research to engage media and news outlets
- Produce messaging, position statements, prepare for media interviews and deal with complex reactive press enquiries
- Contribute to the development and delivery of the charity's strategic media plan - lead a strategic development priority area, working across the team and organisation
- Develop and implement creative, effective media plans for campaigns and projects, in-line with the charity's overall strategic objectives
- Gather and develop stories and take a proactive role in identifying opportunities in online and offline media to place news and feature stories on Young Lives vs Cancer activities, campaigns, and services
- Initiate and maintain good working relationships with a network of editors, journalists and broadcasters, especially within the health, education and social care media, and ensure they are briefed appropriately on Young Lives vs Cancer activities and issues
- Write press releases, features, articles, opinion pieces and statements; ensuring these reflect Young Lives vs Cancer's values and key messages.
- Work closely with the Brand and Marketing Communications team to understand local business priorities and effectively coordinate and plan activity.
The Media and PR Officer will have previous experience of working in a Media and PR role. The successful candidate will have a thorough understanding of media monitoring and evaluation; the ability to engage positively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders; excellent storytelling ability; and the ability to translate complex information in clear, understandable messages.

You will have deep experience of global advocacy communications with the ability to develop and execute communications strategies with stakeholders across government, international organisations, civil society, the private sector, the media, research and academia. WeMove Europe is looking for a Digital Campaigner and Fundraiser (German Language) who is able to think, do, and deliver. Someone who loves being part of fast-paced digital campaigning for a better Europe and can also think about the bigger strategic picture.
Most importantly the digital world: online campaigning, fundraising and innovative digital tactics excite you, and you are keen to learn more in this field. Data analysis and data driven decision-making is not a frightening concept to you, on the contrary.
As a Digital Campaigner and Fundraiser (German Language), your tasks will include:
Digital, Creative, Comms
- Identify European campaign opportunities and develop and lead on campaigns from planning phase, to execution, pulling out the creative digital tactics in between
- Storytelling - Write strong, compelling copy which results in our members taking action on various issues, including for email and social media platforms
- Tailor our emails fundraisers and messages to the German context
- Manage email communications with our German members, including setting up and sending emails using our online campaigning tools (currently, ActionKit), and analysing data and user engagement
- Run ads in your country to optimise our campaigns for growth and impact
- Stay up-to-date with digital campaigning and marketing trends and find innovative ways to apply them at WeMove Europe
- Organise “offline” actions such as demonstrations, petition handovers etc.
- With with a part-time Digital Organiser to help manage the German community
Fundraising
- Fundraise from individual donors in Germany
- Support the fundraising team in executing our members focused fundraising strategy,
- Tailor fundraising messages to our German community
- Support campaigners to raise funds for their campaigns and from their communities
Partnerships
- Build and maintain relations with partners in NGOs and movements in Germany and EU-wide
- Help us understand the political dynamics in Germany by keeping connected to local movements, alternative thinking and researching policy processes within your national context as it connects to the EU level
Other
- Travel nationally and EU-wide for team meetings, retreats, stakeholder and partner meetings, and petition deliveries
About You - Who are we looking for?
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Digital Campaigner and Fundraiser (German Language) who brings these qualities to the table:
- You are comfortable with and excited by helping people understand their own power and becoming agents of change
- You understand the power of words and stories to make change, and you write great copy and have great writing skills in English and German
- You speak and write German at a native or fluent (C2) level
- Results drive you and crave more data, keen to run tests that are backed by statistical significance and are always looking to improve your work
- You excel at finding visuals and creating engaging graphics and video content for campaigns.
- You are comfortable with new software, online tools and all things digital
- You are deeply committed to working in Germany and Europe for bold, structural change and believe in empowering the people around you to do the same
- You have some experience with non-partisan political campaigning, and if that experience is online and digital that’s an added bonus
- You have a strong understanding of the political and social context in Germany as well as some understanding of the European context.
- You are fluent in English to a degree that you can work in an English-speaking environment and can translate from English into German
- You are happy with travel in Europe

We’re looking for someone with a passion for opening up democracy, politics and the news, who is a brilliant communicator, a great team player and is highly organised, to join us as Public Affairs & Media Officer.
You’ll play a vital role in bringing to life 38 Degrees’ media and public affairs strategy, in service of 38 Degrees’ mission: to make our country fairer, more respectful and sustainable. As we adjust to a shift in our political environment, this brand new role will relentlessly and powerfully amplify 38 Degrees campaigns and the voices of our supporters to the general public, the media and decision makers in the UK.
Working alongside the Public Affairs & Media Manager, and with colleagues across the campaigns team and beyond you’ll spend every day trying to shine a light on the actions our supporters take on campaigns they care about. From monitoring what’s going on in Parliament – and when it’s the perfect moment for the 38 Degrees community to use our collective voices – to being able to put together media packages that are irresistible to journalists, you’ll know how to skillfully use the public affairs and media tools at our disposal to win campaigns, raise our profile and build our reputation.
Your background and experience
You’ll have a proven track record of great political and news judgement, and have played a key role in using these skills in a campaigning environment to deliver powerful campaigns that deliver impactful media and public affairs results. That could be from working in a press office or media environment, to working with (or for) a politician. It’s possible you are more experienced at either media work or public affairs work – but either way, you’ll know what it takes to use both to influence decision makers and land a big news story. We’re looking for a person who knows the political and news agenda each day, and can help set it too.
The person recruited will need to be a brilliant communicator, as at home speaking to 38 Degrees supporters and empowering them to act as media case studies, as you are pitching a story to a journalist or handling enquiries from MP’s offices.
We’re looking for someone who can show they’re highly organised, know how to prioritise and with a track record of successful project management, when it comes to partnership work and events.
To succeed in this role, you’ll need to show us you’re team-focused and know what it takes to build positive and productive relationships with colleagues, in a fast paced environment – where the news cycle means that priorities can sometimes change for all of us at a moment’s notice.
You’ll relish a newsroom atmosphere and will be happy that no two days at 38 Degrees are the same, as you focus on amplifying campaigns and making a difference which helps change lives, little by little.
