Job Title: Refuge Worker

Location: This is an on-site role, located within the London Borough of Hounslow, there may be a requirement to occasionally work in the London Borough of Hillingdon. 
Salary: £28,104 per annum
Contract type: Full Time, Fixed Term Contract (Until February 2026)

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our staff team. We are looking for a compassionate, empathetic Progression Worker with strong interpersonal and communication skills who is passionate about helping vulnerable adults progress and achieve their goal of living independently.

Alongside managing a small caseload, you will be the first point of contact for many who are experiencing a crisis, assessing needs and providing direct support yourself or signposting/referring to others as required. This role will enable our service users to develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to achieve the following outcomes: improved housing situation, increased resilience and personal decision-making, improved health and wellbeing, and improved skills and knowledge.

Role Purpose: 

To work with families 0-5 within the 0-19 model, with flexibility for 5-19 and a “whole family approach” Including pre-birth, to provide Early Help interventions to meet identified needs of families both in their home on a one-to-one basis and in other settings, using group work.

Main functions

1.To empower families to engage in support, enabling a person-centred solution-focused approach to family support where the service user guides the package of support.

2. Conduct comprehensive assessments to understand the needs, strengths and challenges of families accessing the service.

3. To support families with identified support needs, holding a caseload and taking part in case supervision.  

4. To provide families with information, advice and guidance and signposting on various issues.

5. To provide family support drop-in sessions enabling families to access support

6. To identify barriers to accessing services within the local community and contribute to overcoming these barriers for all target and disadvantaged groups.

7. To use a solution-focused approach when working with families who are resistant to engage with the service ensuring the child’s welfare remains paramount at all times.

8. To facilitate and deliver support and interventions which improve parental capacity and family relationships for families with under 5s within the 0-19 model, with flexibility for 5-19 and a “whole family approach”.  

9. To develop programmes of work with families which produce the outcomes required in assessments or plans. 

10. To ensure effective Child and parent engagement and Child’s Voice is paramount in any decision-making.

11. To refer families to specialists and other services when appropriate and with consent in accordance with required protocols and monitor family progress and engagement with referred services.

12. To provide guidance and support on childcare, child development, child safety, nutrition, and early education.

13. To deliver group intervention programmes that may include evidence-based programmes: i.e. parenting, domestic abuse etc

14. To attend multi-agency meetings as required and provide reports. 

15. Maintain accurate and confidential records of family interactions, services provided and outcomes achieved.

16. To plan, and coordinate Antenatal/ Perinatal Mental Health Interventions. 

17. To engage with local partners and communities to promote public health messages in relation to Infant Feeding.

18. To ensure appropriate referral and signposting of women for breastfeeding support when necessary.

19. To provide support to women who are breastfeeding, encouraging the development of group support as required.

20. Communicate key messages about breastfeeding; in relation to attachment and bonding with their baby, providing support in a clear and empathetic manner as required 

21. Maintain effective links with internal and external support services, staying up to date with available support services in relation to emotional health and well-being.

22. To lead on planning, delivery and evaluation of services, in relation to the emotional health of parents, including co-production.

23. To work directly with individual parents and children to provide structured intervention and support around emotional health/well-being and behaviour.

24. To work flexibly and deliver services across the service as directed and to undertake any other duties commensurate with the role and responsibilities of the post as agreed with your line manager

We are looking for a compassionate, proactive, experienced, and professionally registered nurse to evolve our support services and provide excellent, specialist care for families affected by Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood (SUDC).

SUDC UK has a small, warm, passionate and impactful team who currently support families facing the sudden death of a child between 1-18 years, with no clear explanation for their child’s death. 

Currently, the charity’s co-founder and CEO delivers services in collaboration with our affiliate organisation, the SUDC Foundation (based in the U.S). This new role will evolve SUDC UK’s direct support services by delivering an expanded, evidence-based SUDC UK pathway of exceptional care for registered families. 

The role will include providing 1-1 supportive zoom calls for information and guidance, case advocacy requiring collaboration and relationship building with professionals like Coroner’s officers and paediatricians, signposting, referrals and collaboration with other organisations, a family peer connection program, family events, service review and continuous improvement.

ABOUT THE CHILDREN AND FAMILY WORKER ROLE

Our service provides a safe and supportive refuge for women and children escaping domestic abuse. Women stay with us for six months to a year, receiving specialist support to rebuild their lives. We accept children up to the age of 15 and offer tailored assistance in finding housing, accessing benefits, trauma stabilisation, and emotional and practical day-to-day support.

Support is provided through key work sessions, risk assessments, and empowerment-focused activities. The Children and Family Worker will play a key role in supporting families, including conducting Family Star assessments (with training provided). The role is based across two sites, and the successful candidate will be the only specialist in the residence, giving them autonomy to shape the role based on their expertise and experience. The Children and Family Worker will focus on supporting mothers with children, planning and leading activities to help families settle into the refuge and build positive experiences. This is not a desk-based role; it requires someone who enjoys being active, creative, and hands-on in supporting families.

Shift Pattern: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week on a rotating schedule. Shifts include: Early Shift: 07:30 - 15:30, Day Shift: 09:00 - 17:00 and Late Shift: 11:30 - 19:30 Your daily hours will vary, but over a 12-week period you'll work an equal balance of early, day and late shifts. This role requires working one Saturday every 3 months, with Saturday shifts always being 09:00 - 17:00.

Salary: £26,100

What are we looking for from a Children and Family Worker?

• Proven ability to organise, plan and deliver play sessions, after-school activities and family-focused events – including seasonal celebrations (Halloween, Christmas and Easter), day trips to the cinema or beach, and other special occasions – whilst effectively managing multiple priorities.
• Supporting mothers in helping their children transition to new schools.
• Assisting children with behavioural challenges and supporting them in accessing early intervention services.
• Working with children with special educational needs or additional behavioural needs.  
• Experience working with both adults and children, particularly those from complex backgrounds.

We have a vacancy for a Flourish (Refugee and Asylum Seekers) Community Outreach Worker to join our team, supporting refugees and asylum seekers in the community with multiple needs who have mental health as a primary need, through providing advice, information and holistic support.

About the Service

This is an exciting and reasonably new project, ‘Flourish’ – Mental Health for Refugees in Hertfordshire, which is a highly flexible and responsive outreach service developed to meet the needs of refugees fleeing the war in Ukraine & other refugees in Hertfordshire. The aim of the service will be to support refugees in the community with multiple needs who have mental health support as a primary need.

The countywide holistic service also provides emotional wellbeing support for families who are hosting refugees.

Purpose of Post

• To provide advice, information, onward referral and holistic support to clients with mental ill health.
• Support to build social networks and reduce isolation whilst settling into the Hertfordshire community this includes building a sustainable and empowering peer support network and building confidence and self-esteem.
• To ensure that the safety and wellbeing of the client is monitored and reviewed regularly.
• To remain a source of independent support for all clients.
• Embed a person centred and solution focused approach in all aspects of the role.
• To work in a trauma informed way including awareness of the 6 principles of trauma informed practice, putting the clients emotional and practical needs at the forefront of this work.

Key Responsibilities:

• Working closely with all key delivery partners across the system to ensure the service is responsive, inclusive and easy to access.
• To take allocated referrals from any agencies including the Community Navigators, Borough and District Councils, Herts Help, Housing Providers, the Refugee Council and self-referrals including walk in contacts at any of the Mind wellbeing centres across the county.
• Hold a caseload of clients, supporting for approx. 10 weeks
• To create a safe space for the individual to be able to explore their feelings and improve their understanding around their mental health.
• To complete a holistic needs assessment, making use of assertive outreach work to achieve the initial client contact, if required.
• Ensure all person-centred risk assessments and support plans are completed as appropriate.
• Proactively recognise the indicators of deteriorating mental health and facilitate appropriate action, whilst liaising with relevant agencies.
• To provide safeguarding intervention support. This will include responding to problems, which pose an immediate risk.
• To work alongside translators when required to provide a robust package of support for clients.
• To provide advocacy services to clients experiencing mental ill health.
• To accompany clients to initial visits and appointments as necessary in order to ensure the sustained use of existing support services in the Borough.
• To work with the third sector and signpost to other agencies as necessary to improve the health and wellbeing of clients referred to the service.
• To liaise with other agencies to ensure that clients receive appropriate support and continue to remain engaged with the service.
• To assist clients to access appropriate mental health services, housing/tenancy services and other services according to assessed needs.
• To establish effective pathways across a variety of agencies to maximise and provide effective partnership working.
• Support clients to build their emotional resilience, promoting self-management through building an understanding of their own triggers/coping strategies.
• To actively seek the views and feedback from refugees and hosting families in order to shape and improve service delivery.

The role
The Children and Young People’s Key Worker will undertake individual and group sessions with children, young people and parents/carers who are participating in our young people using harm programmes. The purpose of this role is to deliver sessions that support a young person and their parents/carers to address and change their harmful behaviour, ensuring they develop their understanding of abuse, as well as its impact on others. You will support the delivery of face to face and online sessions, including up to two evening group sessions per week.

As a Children and Young People’s Key Worker, you will work with clients on awareness raising, developing their motivation to change, ensuring accountability, and prioritising safety of the young person and those around them. .

About you

You’ll be confident in delivering programmes to children, young people and their parents/carers, assessing and managing dynamics in 121 and group formats. You’ll have experience in gaining young people’s trust and you’ll be confident addressing challenging and harmful behaviour. You’ll have direct experience of working therapeutically with a client group. You will also have experience of managing safeguarding issues.

Above all you will be comfortable with conflict managements, and you’ll bring a positive, solution focus attitude. We’d also love to hear from applicants who are fluent in speaking an additional language or have experience in supporting young people with complex needs.

Who are we?

St. John's is a non-maintained specialist provision, working with autistic people, the majority of whom also have learning disabilities. Some of our learners have co-occurring conditions such as epilepsy, hearing or visual impairments, or mental health needs. Harrogate Homeless Project is seeking to recruit a Senior Support Worker to join the Client Services Team. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a growing team and to have the opportunity to make a real difference to our work.

The post holder will be responsible for leading and managing the support worker team in achieving HPP objectives; including ensuring the smooth day-to-day administration of our hostel, flats and Springboard meeting our clients’ personal, social, learning, work and housing needs.

Job Purpose

Carers Manchester Contact Point (CMCP) is the first point of contact for unpaid carers seeking information, advice and support to help them with their caring role.

The service delivers a free confidential helpline for carers weekdays (Monday – Friday, 10am – 4pm). These times are subject to change, based on the needs and requirements of carers using the service.

The aim of this role is to be part of a team providing a comprehensive information, advice and support to carers in Manchester. The post holder will work alongside colleagues from Gaddum and potentially other organisations to be the first contact in a busy service providing advice via a telephone advice line and managing referrals made through digital sources. They will provide information and advice and refer more complex issues to the appropriate agencies delivering the Manchester Carers Pathway.

Key responsibilities 

Advice giving

• Answering telephone calls into a central helpline offering support and guidance to unpaid carers in Manchester.
• Provide relevant and meaningful support and information to unpaid carers utilising internal and external resources.
• Inform carers about carers assessments and refer where necessary.
• Inform carers about emergency grants available and refer where necessary.
• Ensure all advice and support given is delivered in a timely manner to suit the needs of carers calling the helpline whilst balancing waiting callers.

Follow-up support

• Refer unpaid carers to local services to access local and culturally appropriate support in their area.
• Refer carers to Adult Social Care for Carers Assessments to discuss and improve their caring situation.
• Signpost carers to relevant services in Manchester suited to their individual need.
• Complete relevant grant applications for carers using the service where needed.
• Use Carers Manchester Contact Point and other reliable and accurate resources to find, interpret and communicate relevant information to carers
• Research and explore options and implications so that carers can make informed decisions.
• Write and maintain detailed case records for all casework completed.
• Collect required data for statistical monitoring and report preparation.
• Complete the required training to comply with quality assurance processes.

The post-holder will be required to undertake other tasks as reasonably directed by the CMCP Coordinator, which will usually be commensurate with the skills and experience of the post-holder.

We're looking to recruit a Trainee Advice and Assessment Worker to be the welcoming face for clients arriving at our centre for advice and support. We are excited to offer opportunities for people looking to take their first steps into the advice sector and this role will work towards a level 3 award in information advice and guidance, which will take about 12 months to complete. You'll learn the skills and gain experience in delivering support to vulnerable people, with a particular focus on housing and welfare rights.

This exciting role will manage the initial assessment with the client in an empathetic way and will liaise with internal teams and with external agencies including other NGOs and statutory bodies and refer/signpost clients to services which may be more appropriate for their needs. You will work with the assessment manager and the rest of the team to develop service delivery and the way we interact with internal and external service providers.

We are looking to recruit an empathetic Palliative Care Social Worker to join our team of dedicated Social Workers at Birmingham Hospice.

Our Palliative Care Social Workers at Birmingham Hospice specialise in working in partnership with patients who require specialist palliative or end-of-life care in addition to supporting their families, those they are close to and their communities. Using their specific skills and knowledge to help people to deal with the impact of a palliative diagnosis, including emotional support, to have a good life and a good death.

In this role you will be responsible for ensuring the provision of a coordinated family support service across both Hospice sites.  You will support the senior palliative care social worker to ensure that the service provides high standards of support, to patients, their families, carers, loved ones and communities, helping to influence and enhance best practice in palliative and end-of-life care involving both internal and external professional providers and agencies.  You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team (MDT) and be well-versed in Safeguarding, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS), a thorough understanding of the Mental Capacity Act, and other relevant legislative frameworks.

You will work within the social team to help to provide the assessments and applications for both Social and Fast Track CHC packages of Care to ensure that the highest standards of care and support to our patients and loved ones are provided at the right time.

You will be a registered social worker with Social Work England and hold a full clean driving licence.  You will be a sound communicator and will be authentic, open, honest, transparent, and have a track record of working inclusively with a genuine appreciation of the value of diversity.

You will work directly with young carers aged 5 and up to achieve positive outcomes, identifying and preventing inappropriate caring responsibilities through whole-family assessments and reviews and ensuring that young carers and their families have access to a range of emotional and practical support appropriate to their needs. You’ll also work closely with the Young Carers Team Leader to support the delivery of our young carers activities programme.

We are looking for someone who has a real passion about our mission and with proven ability in communicating sensitively with children, young people and their families.  You will have excellent organisational skills and be proficient in the use of IT.  You will need to be available for occasional evening and weekend work.

You will have experience working with vulnerable children and young people and will have a strong grasp of the realities of being a young carer in an inner city London borough.
